Yes people, there IS crying in baseball. News got out that Wilmer Flores (SS) & Zack Wheeler (P) were being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for Carlos Gomez (OF) and Flores began to cry in the middle of the game.
Wilmer Flores has been with the Mets since he was 16 years old (23 now) so his emotional state was understandable. This would be his first trade since coming into the major leagues. What didn't make any sense was that Terry Collins (Mets manager) REFUSED to pull the crying Flores out of the game, instead waiting until the final out of the 9th inning to send him to the locker room.
In the post-game press conference, Collins explained that he did not pull Wilmer Flores out of the game because no one had told him anything about the supposed trade and to him, Wilmer was still on the team and he had to play. Also says that he was confused as to why the crowd was giving Wilmer a standing ovation in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Even the Carlos Gomez's Brewers teammates were having a sendoff celebration on the plane back to Milwaukee from an away game (the picture originally had a goodbye message was reuploaded with this hilarious new caption):
ALL OF THAT FOR NO REASON BECAUSE METS GENERAL MANAGER SANDY ALDERSON CAME OUT AFTER THE COLLINS' PRESS CONFERENCE TO SAY THERE WAS NEVER A TRADE IN PLANS AND THAT THERE WILL BE NO TRADE. SO WILMER CRIED FOR NOTHING. Alderson went on to blame Twitter for jumping the gun on the trade news and making Wilmer Flores cry. But sports insiders are calling bullshit:
Zack Wheeler was coming off Tommy John (elbow) surgery and it looks like the Brewers backed out last minute and now the Mets, in typical Mets fashion, are blaming us for their fuck ups. Now I hope Wilmer Flores sticks around and becomes a great Met even though they don't deserve him. Still, the loss of this trade is NOT good news for this team. The offense is horrible and they are in desperate need of a power hitter. Trade deadline is Friday at 4:30. The Mets have 2 days to make something happen.

Trade or not, the minute he was out there in tears they should've pulled him out of the game.

Most logical explanation is that #Brewers were uncomfortable with Wheeler’s medical coming off Tommy John. Players were agreed upon.
