Amy Schumer met with 101.1 KIIS Australian radio hosts Matt Tilley and Jane Hall to promote her film Trainwreck, and it starts off pleasant enough.
Schumer explained that her character in Trainwreck is essentially her 10 years ago when she was a sophomore in college: "There's a lot of me in this movie; I'm not embarrassed to say that. I was in a lot pain, I was spreading myself too thin, I was drinking a lot, and I realized how destructive it was."
She said the costume designer (Lisa Evans) was the one who decided to make Schumer's outfits "a little too short." That prompted Tilley to ask Schumer, "Do you have the word 'skanky' in America?" Not missing a beat, Schumer replied, "We do have that word. What made you think about your mom? Why did she just pop in your mind?"
Hall tried to defuse the situation but Tilley continued, "Come on, that's the character of the movie; I'm not trying to offend you." Schumer replied, "Whatever you’re trying to do, you are. That’s a rude question."
Tilley also said that the film's plot was ultimately about Schumer's character finding a boyfriend and that didn't sit well with her: "I think you're wrong. I think the point is that she realizes she's hurting herself and the people around her."
Hall did her best to mediate the rest of the interview but Schumer was pretty much done with Tilley. When he asked, "Would you rather do that [acting] and have stand-up as fun?" She replied sarcastically, "I want to do whatever I have to do to get another interview with you again."
The tension begins around the 2-minute mark.
