Today The Walt Disney Company unveiled key creative elements of Shanghai Disneyland, opening in spring 2016. Shanghai Disneyland is designed to appeal to Chinese guests – taking the best of Disney and delivering it in a way that is created especially for a Chinese audience.
Shanghai Disney Resort is a complete vacation destination and at opening will include:
•Shanghai Disneyland, a theme park with six themed lands
•Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel
•Disneytown, an international shopping, dining and entertainment district
•Walt Disney Grand Theatre, home to the first-ever Mandarin production of the Broadway hit THE LION KING
•Wishing Star Park, featuring beautiful gardens and a glittering lake
The six themed lands include:
• Mickey Avenue - Shanghai's version of "Main Street USA", this land is inspired by the colorful personalities of Mickey Mouse and his pals and features character meetings and shopping.
• Gardens of Imagination - This land celebrates the wonders of nature and the joy of imagination. Attractions include: the Fantasia Carousel, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, castle stage shows and "Ignite the Dream, a Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light." Also includes a walkthrough attraction, Garden of the Twelve Friends, where animals of the Chinese zodiac are re-imagined as Disney and Disney•Pixar characters.
• Fantasyland - This will be the largest land and home to the Enchanted Storybook Castle. Attractions include Voyage to the Crystal Grotto (which goes underneath Storybook Castle), Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan's Flight, Pooh's Hunny Pot Spin, an Alice in Wonderland maze based on the Tim Burton film, and a Frozen sing-along show.
• Adventure Isle - The centerpiece attraction is the Roaring Rapids raft ride; other attractions include Soaring over the Horizon (a global version of Soarin' over California), Camp Discovery (a science & nature attraction with an elevated ropes course and dig sites), and the Tarzan: Call To The Jungle stage show, which will fuse theatrics, Chinese acrobatics and a rock concert.
• Treasure Cove - This will be the first pirate-themed land in a Disney park, and features Pirates of the Caribbean – Battle for the Sunken Treasure. This updated version of the classic Disneyland boat ride will feature boats that can spin, travel sideways and backwards, and react smartly to their position to create a more individualized experience. Other attractions are Explorer Canoes and Eye of the Storm: Captain Jack’s Stunt Spectacular.
• Tomorrowland - A massive, color-shifting canopy will lure guests to TRON Lightcycle Power Run, a coaster-style attraction where guests board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles which reach top speeds of 60 mph. Other attractions include Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue and a jetpack simulator. Nearby Tomorrowland are the Star Wars Launch Bay and Marvel Universe, featuring character meetings, props and memorabilia.
Other items of interest:
Enchanted Storybook Castle will be the tallest and largest castle at any Disney theme park, and the first castle in a Disney theme park that represents all the Disney princesses. It features a walk-through attraction, Once Upon A Time Adventure, with an animated version of Snow White that guests can interact with.
The "Mickey's Storybook Express" parade has the longest parade route in any Disney park
The Disneytown shopping, dining and entertainment district will incorporate Shanghai's traditional Shikumen-style architecture
