X Factor 2012 winner James Arthur is set to kick off work on his debut album this week.  The singer-songwriter previously said he wanted to put out his record as soon as possible, rather than waiting a year like past winners.

James secured the first number one of 2013 this week as his winner’s track Impossible returned to number one for the second time in two weeks on Sunday night’s latest Top 40 chart.  The track has sold over 900,000 copies so far, making it the fourth biggest selling X Factor debut to date, ahead of even Leona Lewis.  And with the song still holding strong in the charts, we wouldn’t be surprised if it soon overtakes the remaining three songs too.

According to The Sun, James is set to get working with British producer Fraser T Smith on his debut album, with the music mastermind having previously worked with the likes of Adele and Leona Lewis (and Dappy from N-Dubz).
But while James has been signed to Sony Music after winning the show last month, it’s still undecided what label he’ll join.  Usually Simon Cowell’s personal Syco brand look after the acts, but bosses may instead be giving the project to Columbia, who also oversaw Matt Cardle’s debut album.  And we all saw how well that went…
