Although the inner goddess author EL James has all but dismissed Robert Pattinson from the casting role of Christian Grey in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie — not from lack of talent but rather simply due to his lead role in “Twilight” — Books and Review reports this Friday, Nov. 23, that the Edward Cullen actor has said, “I am playing the part of Christian Grey.”

Before laughing, that is.

Robert Pattinson was once again linked to the Christian Grey role this week after his recent interview with MSN and being asked if he would want to play the lead part of the steamy CEO if offered a spot in the hotly awaited big screen adaptation.

“I am playing that part,” said Pattinson with a straight face. “I also wrote the [“50 Shades”] book.” Then he broke into a fit of laughter.

Robert Pattinson has actually expressed a bit of peevishness after being dismissed by EL James for the role of Christian Grey in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, though the talented “Twilight” actor will certainly have no trouble finding other film roles in 2013. (Pattinson placed tenth in the most recent “LOOK” magazine Christian Grey casting poll, led by Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer).

No doubt that Robert Pattinson and his good humor can always get fans for a nice laugh, but there is little question that fellow “50 Shades” fans waiting for news on the upcoming film adaptation is no laughing matter. EL James has recently told her many dark-tie readers that the movie is still “a ways off … [and] there is much to do yet” via Twitter, but no explicit dates have been given.

The “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie has been given a tentative release date of 2014, though nothing has been confirmed as of yet. The latest big news was the hiring of talented screenwriter Kelly Marcel being handpicked by author EL James to write the screenplay for the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie. Now we continue to wait for a director to helm the sexy production in the coming weeks or months.

Angelina Jolie, anyone? (But in all seriousness, Angelina Jolie was rumored to be a potential director over the summer, and hasn’t completely denied an interest in the part if offered). Whichever director is chosen, let’s hope that a skilled man or woman is found soon: for after a director is found, the real casting for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele can begin.
