Because it’s 2014, Toyota is marketing its Sienna minivan as the “Swagger Wagon,” and has recorded a trap-music theme song and video to boot.
The video, which stars a white suburban family wearing red jumpsuits, has already drawn accusations of racism for its mocking of hip-hop culture and promotion of black stereotypes. “Listen up mother-fathers, this one is about the Swagger Wagon, I’ll wash your mouth out with soap if you call it a mini-van,” proclaims the family’s 12-year-old daughter. Dad’s verse is no less cringeworthy: “Yea, it’s called the Swagger Wagon, I know that it sounds like braggin’. When we pull up to karate. They be like, ‘who is that?’ It’s just us and the kids, swaggin’ hard until 8pm.”
To make matters worse, Busta Rhymes contributes a verse to the song in which he declares “The Neuberts” “the craziest family” on the cul-de-sac. Need I remind you this is the same guy who wrote “Gimme Some More”.
