First Ted Cruz had problems with HBO’s True Blood, and now Sarah Palin does, too.
The former Alaska governor told Breitbart News that she rejected an overture from the producers of the vampire show, which on Sunday’s episode featured a scene in which Republicans were killed attending a Ted Cruz fundraiser.
“The brilliant minds of True Blood were brazen enough to ask me to do a cameo on their show, apparently so they could insult a conservative woman in person instead of just all conservative women in general,” Palin told Breitbart News. “Their offer wasn’t presented in any negative way, perhaps to benefit from a surprise factor after the guest appearance. I turned them down anyway.”
Sunday’s show prompted Cruz to blast True Blood for its “misogynist and profanity-ridden episode.” Palin continued the Texas senator’s theme with Breitbart News:
To producers who throw these deceitfully ‘flattering’ bones that sound fun on the surface, is it really any wonder I don’t accept your offers to participate in your shows. Nice try HBO. I’d put any mama grizzly in America against a vampire any day; for only one of them actually exists. The left wants to talk about a “war on women?” Keep engaging in your misogynist attacks on women you disagree with and we’ll see who wins your self-inflicted war in the court of decent public opinion.
In the episode mentioning Cruz, the character of Pam utters a word that is a combination of “Republican” and a vulgar epithet for female genitalia. True Blood creator Alan Ball told The Wrap that former GOP presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann helped inspire a story line in Season 5 about a Vatican-style theocracy taking over the vampire world.
