Disney's 'Frozen' plot revealed

Disney’s Frozen is hardly an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen‘s The Snow Queen, and the new synopsis proves that. Last month, the first details of the movie were finally revealed, as well as the first two members of the voice cast – Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel. The story felt like it would be somewhat grounded in Andersen’s tale. But now, a new extended description reveals that Frozen is more of an original Disney story.

The first official blurb about the movie went a little like this:

In Frozen, a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (voice of Idina Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

Now, Bleeding Cool has obtained a new and extended synopsis that reveals more unique characters and plot twists.

When Anna is cursed by her estranged sister, the cold-hearted Snow Queen, Anna’s only hope of reversing the curse is to survive a perilous but thrilling journey across an icy and unforgiving landscape. Joined by a rugged, thrill-seeking outdoorsman, his one-antlered reindeer and a hapless snowman, Anna must race against time, conquer the elements and battle an army of menacing snowmen if she ever hopes to melt her frozen heart.

As new details come in, the story seems to be distancing itself more and more from Andersen’s original Snow Queen. The “one-antlered reindeer and hapless snowman” are original and unique characters that seem to have been added for children’s entertainment. Back in 2010, the story was shelved because the script wasn’t good enough. It seems that the writers finally figured out what the story was missing – more characters!

Andersen’s tale centers around a little girl who sets out to rescue her friend, a little boy named Kai, after he’s kidnapped by the Snow Queen. Since there’s no mention of Kai anywhere in Disney’s new synopsis, it seems like the studio is using Andersen’s story as more of a foundation, plus they’ve still got the character of the Snow Queen in the mix.

Frozen is directed by Tarzan‘s Chris Buck, produced by Peter Del Vecho (The Princess and the Frog), and will feature original music by Robert Lopez (Book of Mormon). The animated movie is set to hit theaters on November 27, 2013.

No. No. No. NO. I have no hope for this film anymore, considering the horrid title, and the fact that it's not original hand drawn animation...AND the story butchery....ngl Eartha Kitt would have made an awesome Snow Queen
