There's some major tinkering going down at FOX's "The Mindy Project": co-star Anna Camp will shift from full-time regular to recurring status, while Amanda Setton will exit the series.
The critically acclaimed first-year comedy already received an expanded full-season order from FOX, but has struggled to find an audience in its five airings to date.
Camp plays the best friend of Mindy Kaling's character Mindy Lahiri and TVLine reports that the actress asked to be"taken off contract" so she can "pursue other opportunities" while continuing her "Mindy" role in a reduced capacity. (NOOOOOOO)
"Mindy" fans may have seen this coming: the show hasn't had the easiest time integrating Camp's character into storylines that largely concern Mindy's professional and dating life. Additionally, Camp recently appeared on the big screen in the sleeper success "Pitch Perfect."
Setton's character -- sexpot receptionist Shauna -- fit more naturally into the storylines, but the actress' exit comes down to "creative reasons."
TVLine additionally notes that "Mindy" plans to introduce a new female character soon: Maggie, a tomboyish college friend of Mindy's, who could become a series regular.
