He's android-perfect, a video-game avatar of a quarterback. Last year Cam Newton busted NFL records, threw for a historic 4,051 yards, and fulfilled all the promise of his number-one-draft-pick hype. And that was just his rookie year. This season? Prepare to be entertained
There are two foundations of American style, and pretty much every true-blue piece of Yank apparel can be traced back to them: the university and the military. Long before American teens went to college to learn about Keynesian economics and how to fashion a ripping bong out of a two-liter bottle, higher education was the place for varsity jackets, cardigans, and scarves in school colors. The military, meanwhile, gave us functional gear like Henleys, cargo pants, and tough-as-nails outerwear. Thing is, college kids and soldiers didn't abandon all this stylish, practical stuff when they graduated or returned to civilian life. They brought it with them. So it goes with Cam Newton: He left Auburn University early to snatch riches and records in the NFL, but in an easygoing mix of America's iconic sportswear, he looks athletic, intelligent, and tough. Like a one-man superpower.
