Lennon's Killer Up For Parole

john_lennon_nyc

John Lennon’s killer is up for parole for the eighth time — and for the eighth time, Yoko Ono is fighting his release.

Mark David Chapman, serving a 20 year-to-life sentence at upstate Wende Correctional Facility for the Dec. 8, 1980, shooting of the Beatle, is awaiting his fate after being interviewed by state parole officials this week.

A decision could be announced as early as Friday.

It’s not expected he’ll be released.

Chapman, 59, has had a clean prison record since 1994, but in the past the parole board has said his release would “undermine respect for the law.”

Lennon’s widow Ono has opposed Chapman’s parole, saying it would leave her and Lennon’s two sons fearful and even put Chapman at risk of being attacked by fans of the slain icon.

This time around, Ono submitted a letter reaffirming her statements in prior letters to the Parole Board, according to her lawyer, Jonas Herbsman.

In previous hearings, Chapman has said he targeted Lennon because of his fame and a twisted belief that the rocker was a phony for living an elite lifestyle.

He gunned down Lennon, 40, as the singer and Ono returned home to the landmark Dakota building facing Central Park after a late-night recording session.

If denied release, Chapman would have to wait another two years to be eligible again.

The once-portly killer is kept in protective custody against his will and works as an administrative clerk. He’s allowed out of his cell a minimum of three hours a day.

He also is registered in the prison system’s “family reunion” program, which allows him conjugal visits with his wife, Gloria Hiroko Chapman, who married him 18 months before the murder, and visits with his stepfather. His wife lives in Hawaii and did not return a call for comment.

Chapman in previous parole hearings said he’s found Jesus behind prison walls and is willing to pay for his crime in prison “however long it takes, forever.”

He has said he killed Lennon for the notoriety, but now realizes “I became a murderer and murderers are not somebodies.”

Chapman once angered Ono when he said he believed Lennon would have forgiven him.

He also admitted to having eyed other targets, including Johnny Carson and Elizabeth Taylor, now both dead, if he hadn’t been able to get to Lennon.

Aleonardo

EDMONTON – The Wolf of Wall Street has landed in Fort McMurray.

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio, a leading man in Hollywood’s environmental movement, is in northern Alberta doing research for an upcoming project.

“Leo is in town for a few days working on an environmental documentary,” a source close to DiCaprio said Thursday night. “He wanted to hear about and see — first-hand — the oilsands and their impact on the planet.”

The visit comes a day after a short video narrated by DiCaprio was released on carbon pollution. The film, called Carbon, is part of a series of short films on climate change, with additional episodes released ahead of September’s U.N. Climate Summit in New York City.

“We cannot sit idly by and watch the fossil fuel industry make billions at our collective expense,” DiCaprio says during his narration of the video, produced with support from a foundation he established to benefit humanitarian and environmental causes. “We must put a price on carbon — now.”

The video does not attack the oilsands per se, although it does feature aerial footage shot in the region. Its primary purpose is to advocate for carbon taxes and for alternative forms of energy.

“We must fight to keep this carbon in the ground,” DiCaprio says in the film. “If national governments won’t take any action, your community can.

“We can move our economy town by town and state by state to renewable energy and a sustainable future.”

Justin Bieber took his Can-Am Spyder into Bev Hills Thursday ... and when traffic got too congested for his taste, he maneuvered it onto the sidewalk where he rode illegally ... almost hitting someone.

Watch the video closely ... you'll see Bieber comes off the sidewalk at an intersection, and comes close to creaming an elderly woman with a walker.

He clearly doesn't care ... because seconds later he's rocking out to music as he waits at a light.

BTW ... Bieber's on probation for the egg throwing incident, which means he's not allowed to violate any laws. Lucky for him ... no cops in sight.

Nick Cannon may have confirmed that he and wife Mariah Carey are "living in separate houses," but don't expect him to be revealing anything else about the couple's possible divorce.

Carey, 45, has ordered her estranged husband not to discuss the split.

According to TMZ, the couple's lawyers drafted a non-disclosure agreement, which prevents Cannon, 33, from revealing any info about the end of the marriage. The website claims that Nick was allowed to say he and the "Heartbreaker" singer were no longer living together, but that's it.

What's more, if the America's Got Talent host does violate the terms of the agreement, he will face "severe financial penalties."

Nick and Mariah, who got married in 2008 and have 3-year-old twins together, have allegedly already reached an agreement about their property and child custody.

Mariah also stipulated that she can announce the official news of the divorce whenever and however she wants. Of course she can.

Daniel Radcliffe: I Don't Believe in Soul Mates!

Daniel Radcliffe may have played a wizard, but when it comes to love, he isn’t exactly a believer in magic.

"The idea that there is one person for everyone is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. With almost seven billion people around the world, how could that even be possible?" he told Essential Homme magazine, and says that while his character Wallace in What If is an ultra-romantic, his outlook on love is a little more practical.

453529550

"For me, love is just about being with somebody that makes you incredibly happy and that you want to spend your time with. Someone that, despite how long any day is, their presence immediately lifts your spirits. I don’t believe in fate or destiny."

Well Daniel, in that case I’m hopelessly in love with my personal shopper and the man who doles out my trust fund checks. I like to think there’s a little bit more mystery to who we fall in love with, don’t you?

Do you agree with oh-so-practical Dan that there could be millions of matches out there, not just one? Or have you watched so many rom-coms that you absolutely positively believe in The One?

Rihanna has topped nearly every “world’s sexiest woman” list but she think someone else should get the title.

“Penelope Cruz is the shit,” Rihanna told the latest issue of Elle. "If I could wake up and look like her tomorrow, that would be great.” The 26-year-old singer also called Uma Thurman’s “Pulp Fiction” character Mia Wallace “gangsta. She’s epic. I’m going to do that bob again. Those bangs.”

As for sexiest man, Rihanna’s answer was somewhat surprising. “Vince Vaughn,” she said. “He’s amazing. Fantastic.”

The “Umbrella” singer also spilled her beauty secrets, admitting that, yes, she does have bad-face days. “When I feel like my skin has had it, I cut all the alcohol completely and overdo the water,” Rihanna told Elle. And when that’s not enough? “Mix moisturizer and a drop of foundation. That, some mascara, lipstick, and you’re good. And fix those brows,” she said.

The Barbadian beauty rarely leaves home without lipstick. “It draws attention away from any flaws,” she said. “When someone is wearing lipstick, you just assume they’re wearing a full face of makeup.”

Pat O'Brien Recalls the Time Angelina Jolie Was "Really Horny"

An elevator incident that almost eclipses Solange-gate! Pat O'Brien claims in his memoir I'll Be Right Back After This that Angelina Jolie once told him in an elevator that she was "really horny" and on a manhunt after splitting from Billy Bob Thornton in 2002.
In a snippet of the tell-all, obtained by the Daily Mail, the former Access Hollywood host claims the elevator run-in with Jolie occurred over a decade ago at Beverly Hills hotel L'Ermitage. "I said, 'What's up baby?'” O'Brien recalled of bumping into the Oscar winner. Jolie's response? "I'm trying to find this guy I kind of know because I'm really horny right now.'" Seemingly unfazed, O'Brien writes, "I joked that she had my number and we laughed."
Aside from that reportedly amazing moment, the memoir also details the time Jolie's dad Jon Voight pleaded to O'Brien, during an interview with Access Hollywood in 2002, for his estranged daughter to seek help for her "serious mental problems."
The TV host says Voight told him during a coffee meeting, "I want to talk to you about my daughter. I'm brokenhearted. That's the reason I'm here. I feel I can trust you as a journalist."
O'Brien's book, which is available now, also touches upon his past substance abuse issues.

Taylor Swift's Shake it Off is projected to be next week's #1

The song looks likely to soar in as her second Hot 100 leader next week.

Expect a major "shake"-up atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart next week, as Taylor Swift appears headed for a No. 1 debut with her new single, "Shake It Off."

Based on expected massive first-week sales, airplay and streaming, the song looks likely to open atop the ranking. Check out Billboard.com on Wednesday (Aug. 28) when highlights of the chart will post. (The full Hot 100 will update online the following day.)

Swift released the celebratory, anti-negativity anthem on Monday (Aug. 18, just after 2 p.m. PT/5 p.m. ET), when she hosted a Yahoo! live stream. "Shake" introduces 1989, Swift's fifth studio album and first since Red two years ago. The set arrives Oct. 27 on Big Machine Records.

Here's a look at how her new hit is shaping up in the Hot 100's three measurement metrics.

SALES
According to industry projections, "Shake" could start with more than 475,000 downloads sold in the U.S. in its first week (ending Sunday, Aug. 24). Such a sum would mark the biggest arrival this year, besting Ariana Grande's "Problem," which bowed with 438,000 sold and debuted at No. 1 on the May 17 Digital Songs chart. (It entered the Hot 100 at No. 3 and went on to peak at No. 2 for five weeks.)

The last song to start north of 475,000 sold: Katy Perry's "Roar," which debuted atop the Aug. 31, 2013, Digital Songs tally with 557,000. It vaulted 85-2 on the Hot 100 that week ahead of its two-week stay at No. 1.

STREAMING
In addition to launching as the top-selling song in the country, "Shake" should begin as the most-streamed in its first week, too. According to preliminary data from Nielsen BDS, "Shake" easily drew the most streams in the U.S. on Aug. 18-19 on Vevo on YouTube: 6.3 million. Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" ranks second with 2.7 million streams in that two-day span.

"Bass" currently leads Billboard's Streaming Songs chart with 8.1 million U.S. streams overall, with 4.4 million via Vevo on YouTube, in the week ending Aug. 17.

While it boasts a strong early lead in Vevo on YouTube streams, "Shake" is not available on on-demand audio services.

AIRPLAY
"Shake" is also bound for a monster frame of radio airplay in its first full week of availability. On BDS' building chart, the song ranks at No. 10 with 22 million in all-format audience since Wednesday.

Taylor Swift Turns Radio On With 'Shake It Off'

(Because the Radio Songs airplay chart, which powers the airplay component of the Hot 100, follows a Wednesday-Tuesday tracking week, while sales and streaming cover a Monday-Tuesday period, "Shake" debuted on this week's Radio Songs chart at No. 45 with 29 million impressions in its first two days. It was aided by hourly plays on participating Clear Channel and Media Entertainment-owned pop and adult pop radio stations in its first day and a half.)

"Shake" currently ranks at No. 9 on both the building Pop Songs and Adult Pop Songs charts (which run Monday-Sunday). It's on track to make a record-setting start on each list, as no song has ever debuted in the top 10 since the tallies launched in 1992 and 1996, respectively.

In all, Swift seems a safe bet to storm in at No. 1 on the Hot 100 next week.

Should it rocket to the top, "Shake" would become her second No. 1, following "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." The first single from Red vaulted 72-1 on the Sept. 1, 2012, Hot 100 following its first week of availability. It led for three weeks total.

First Look at Keanu Reeves as a Hit Man with a Vendetta in 'John Wick'

For devotees of the Keanu Reeves oeuvre, nothing is more satisfying than seeing the deadpan actor at his most intense and hard-driven.

As you can see in the first peek at Reeves in the upcoming film John Wick, his fans should have plenty to celebrate.

The film features Reeves as an ex-hitman “out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him,” according to the press notes. The cast also includes Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo and Willem Dafoe.

The film opens nationwide on Oct 24th.

First Look: Keanu Reeves in Action as Vengeful Hitman 'John Wick'

It's been awhile since Keanu Reeves has really done anything worth paying attention to, but maybe a new shot of him getting back into action, and not in some weird medieval fantasy world, will help him get his groove back. John Wick is a new action thriller coming this fall, and while the title doesn't sound like anything special, the first look image of Reeves in the film is pretty bad ass, showing the star of The Matrix franchise armed and dangerous, complete with some longer hair and a beard. The film sees Reeves as the titular character, an ex-hitman who is out for vengeance. Sounds generic, but we're still hoping for the best.

John Wick is directed by David Leitch & Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad (The Package, One in the Chamber). Keanu Reeves plays the title character, an ex-hitman on an adrenaline-fueled path to revenge and redemption when he is forced back into action by a sadistic young thug and must hunt down his adversaries with the skill and ruthlessness that made him an underworld legend. Bridget Moynahan, Michael Nyqvist, Jason Isaacs, Willem Dafoe, Lance Reddick, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki and Dean Winters also star in the film which is slated to hit theaters this fall on October 24th.

13(3) LGBT Actors Emmy-Nominated For Playing LGBT Characters

$
0
0

As we know, playing an LGBT character has been a Oscar good luck charm to many an actor, from Sean Penn to William Hurt to Charlize Theron or Hilary Swank to Jared Leto... But how many openly LGBT actors have won Oscars for playing LGBT characters? None. In fact, the only openly LGBT actor who has won an Oscar for playing a character of any orientation was Angelina Jolie for "Girl, Interrupted" (unless you count Jodie Foster or Kevin Spacey) and only a scant few others -- Ian McKellan the only one for playing an LGBT role in "Gods and Monsters" -- have even been nominated. The Emmys, however, are a much different story.

Over the past two weeks we've been looking back at every example in chronological order. Leading up to this year's 7 nominees, we counted 15 different LGBT characters played by 13 openly LGBT actors-

Sir Ian McKellen

Nominated For: In 1994, McKellen received his first of 5 Emmy nominations (in the best supporting actor in a TV movie or miniseries category) for playing real life gay activist Bill Kraus in the HBO movie "And The Band Played On." And then 12 years later, he received one for playing another gay man -- himself -- as a guest actor on Ricky Gervais' HBO series "Extras." These were in addition to non-LGBT roles in the likes of "The Prisoner,""Rasputin," and "Great Performances - King Lear."
Did He Win?: No. In 1994 he lost to Michael Goorjian for "David's Mother," and then in 2006 he lost to Stanley Tucci for "Monk" (he lost those other three too, sadly).

Sarah Paulson

Nominated For: Last year, the amazing Ms. Sarah Paulson got her second Emmy nomination in a row for playing lesbian journalist Lana Winters the second season of "American Horror Story" (she was nominated the year before for "Game Change"). She'd go on to make it a hat trick for this year's "AHS," though this time around she wasn't playing an LGBT character.
Did She Win?: No… she lost to Ellen Burstyn for "Political Animals"... though maybe they'll make up for it this year.
Significance: As noted before, this series has been seriously lacking when it comes to examples of LGBT women nominated for playing LGBT women. Paulson is only third to do so, and the first since 1998, with the "Asylum" season of "American Horror Story."

Angelina Jolie

Nominated For: In 1998, the openly bisexual Jolie received two Emmy nominations for playing real life people, one for the suggestively straight former first lady of Alabama Cornelia Wallace in the TNT miniseries "George Wallace," and the other as troubled bisexual model Gia Marie Carangi in "Gia."
Did She Win?: She didn't win for either (losing to Ellen Barkin and Mare Winningham, respectively), despite winning Golden Globes for both.
Significance: Well, one interesting thing to note here is that Jolie became the third LBGT person to be nominated for playing an LGBT person who dies of AIDS -- of only four ever to be nominated (Ellen DeGeneres being the only exception). Beyond that, Jolie -- who was in a relationship with model-actress Jenny Shimizu just prior to making "Gia" -- became the only (and remains as such) bisexual actor nominated for playing a bisexual character (though many claim Gia Marie Carangi was actually a lesbian). Her tour-de-force performance in the HBO film really also should have won her the Emmy (its the kind of TV movie role Emmys are made for), but hey, the role gave her the exposure that led to a certain Oscar winning role two years later...

Tinashe links with ASAP Rocky on "Pretend".
Tinashe already has a hit on her hands with the DJ Mustard and ScHoolboy Q-assisted "2 On", and she's now enlisted a couple more talents for her newest single. Nabbing a verse from ASAP Rocky, and an instrumental from Detail (who's been on fire for the last little while, most notably crafting Beyonce's inescapable "Drunk In Love").
The result is a much warmer ballad, a bit of a departure from the singer's earlier club-oriented single, and more in line with her mixtape work.

Kim Zolciak: "Kenya has no kids and never been married, what is she doing?"

Kim Zolciak Biermann admitted she misses co-starring on “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” but she really didn’t like being a housewife.

She is one of the original cast members, but her repeated conflicts with NeNe Leakes and responsibilities to her NFL husband and growing family pulled Kim in another direction.

Though she’s a happily married mom of six and the star of “Don’t Be Tardy,” Kim said there are things she misses about “RHOA.”

“I do miss laughing and getting out of the house,” she told Andy Cohen. “I really don’t miss the drama.”

Kim may miss receiving invitations to fabulous events and always being at the top of the guest lists, but she didn’t appreciate the way she was depicted on the series.

“I was made to look like a wine drinking, raging lunatic,” she told In Touch.“I hated it!” (That's because you drank wine all the time and acted abnormal sis...)

Kim, whose friendships with Kandi Burruss and NeNe Leakes were damaged while on the show, admitted that she didn’t click with the other women.

“I didn’t like half of the women on the show, so that made things difficult,” she said.

Kim and NeNe have mended their relationship, but “RHOA” still has plenty of dramatic moments, and Kim suggested maybe it’s time for NeNe to branch off.

“We all know that NeNe could probably carry the show by herself,” said Kim who also named Phaedra Parks and Cynthia Bailey as women who have interesting storylines during season 7.

Kim only worked with Porsha Williams and Kenya Moore briefly, but she offered up some shade when Andy mentioned Kenya.

“I don’t really know her that well. What is she doing? She’s like 42, never been married, no kids… What is she doing,” Kim responded.

The 20-year-old experienced zero gravity in the centre’s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory and hung out with astronauts at mission control.

And he tried on an astronaut's glove before looking at rockets on the tour.

Max Adler returns for season 6 of Glee, something about Klaine

$

Looks like the Klaine Endgame Express might take a little detour on Season 6 of Glee.

Max Adler, who recurred as Kurt’s closeted gay bully Dave Karofsky during the Fox musical’s first three seasons, has booked a major arc for at least four of the show’s 13 final episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter — and he might be coveting his former crush’s fiancé Blaine (Darren Criss)!

sexy

The popular (and polarizing) Karofsky — whose last appearance came in a brief fantasy sequence during Season 5’s “Opening Night” — originated as a generic, slushie-throwing jock whose torture of the New Directions ultimately stemmed from his own struggle with his sexual orientation and same-sex attraction to Chris Colfer’s Kurt.

sexy [2]

Midway through Season 3, Karofsky attempted suicide after his crush on Kurt was revealed to his classmates— and it wound up being his former victim who helped him visualize a future with a great job as a sports agent, a loving husband, and an adorable child of his own.

Since exiting Glee, Adler has recurred on ABC Family’s Switched at Birth, while the characters of Kurt and Blaine have survived a cheating scandal, a long-distance relationship and other growing pains to enter Season 6 engaged, in love and envisioning a future together.

what hope is there for the rest of us if these two crazy kids can’t make it?

Glee is set to introduce at least five new characters — all of them McKinley sophomores — in its sixth and final season, TVLine reported exclusively earlier this month. Lea Michele’s Rachel will reportedly return to McKinley High to reboot New Directions, though Kurt and Blaine’s reasons for returning to Lima, OH remain less clear at this point.

"Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" bombs hard

$

0

According to early estimates, The Weinstein Co.’s “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” is practically dead on arrival.

Friday’s projections showed the sequel appeared heading for an opening weekend in the $10 million range at 2,894 sites — far below recent estimates of a $15 million launch — with a meager first-day gross of $3.6 million including a sparse $475,000 from Thursday night shows.

Weekend Projections
1. Guardians - $16.7 million
2. If I Stay - $16.4 million
3. Ninja Turtles - $15.3 million
4. Let's Be Cops - $10.6 million
5. Game Stands Tall - $9.5 million
6. Sin City - $6.1 million

Despite TWC’s noir-drenched marketing campaign and the star power of Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Eva Green, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis, “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” is likely headed for fifth or sixth place. It currently trails Chloe Grace Moretz’s weeper “If I Stay,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” the launch of low-budget sports drama “When the Game Stood Tall” and possibly the second weekend of “Let’s Be Cops.”

The nine-year hiatus between the original “Sin City” and the sequel appears to have dissipated any lingering good will from the original, which opened impressively with a $29 million weekend and went on to gross $74 million. Critical support has been lacking with a 41% fresh rating on the Rotten Tomatoes aggregator site.

Frankie Boyle tells BBC to sack 'cultural tumour' Jeremy Clarkson

Top Gear host 'is tolerated as he's a friend of Cameron', Edinburgh television festival is told

Comedian Frankie Boyle has called for Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson to be sacked "because he's a cultural tumour".

Boyle said that following Clarkson's apology and his final warning from the BBC after an online video emerged of him apparently mumbling the N-word in the nursery rhyme Eeny, Meeny, Miny Moe in an outtake from the BBC2 programme, he "should be removed".

"He comes from a very bad place and the reason he's tolerated is that he's recognised by people in power ... in fact he's a friend of [David] Cameron's," said Boyle. "He's in there like a fucking growth and he should be removed because he's horrible. Sack him because he's a cultural tumour."

Speaking at the Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, Boyle also described Rupert Murdoch as "obviously a c*** and fucking tumour".

However, Boyle defended writing a column for Murdoch's Sun because he said it was "easier to get jokes into than the BBC" and he could talk about things like war and austerity. The Scot recounted an anecdote about being in the same hotel as Murdoch and staff telling him that the media mogul went through newspapers with a marker pen.

Boyle also hit out at Mock the Week, a programme on which he used to appear, saying it would not let him talk about war, instead preferring jokes about sport.

He defended quotas for women on panel shows, asking: "How hard is it to get female panellists?" and said that as a guest host he had tried to get more women on Never Mind the Buzzcocks. He suggested inviting the comedian Sarah Millican on to the panel but, he said, "they implied I'd get sacked".

Boyle is not on television as often as he used to be, with Channel 4's head of comedy, Phil Clarke, saying recently there was no place for him. The Scottish comedian's forthcoming projects are an episode of Live at the Apollo and a pilot on BBC iPlayer about the Scottish referendum – which he says is mostly because television commissioners want to "avoid controversy".

Boyle said that in television there is a "layer of people whose job it is to reject things… and the trouble is, those people are at the top".

Asked if he would have to "act any differently or produce yourself differently" to get back on a long-running show, he implied he would have to tone down. "You would have to, because there's no space for that any more and also I'm not 35 any more, so I don't feel like doing loads of jokes about rape."

When asked if he could be "the old Frankie Boyle" and be on television now, he said no. However, he had no regrets about two of his most controversial jokes – one about the Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Rebecca Adlington and the other about Katie Price's son, Harvey. They had been in context and, of the latter, he said: "It got signed off by everybody."

Boyle was mostly well-received by the audience at Edinburgh, drawing laughs for jokes about ITV's entertainment lineup ("like something from a cruise ship") and when he described Channel 4's line-up as "like Take a Break or Chat magazine".

On the subject of Scottish independence, Boyle said he was "all for it", but "it won't happen".
