I would do 'Wholock', says Steven Moffat

Doctor Who and Sherlock showrunner Steven Moffat has "come clean" about the possibility of a crossover 'Wholock' episode between the two shows, saying he wants to do it but his "killjoy" colleagues Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are in the way.

The collision of the two popular BBC shows has been the subject of much fan fiction, and now the man who serves as the driving force behind bothhas admitted that he wants to make it a reality, though he thinks it's unlikely that it will.

"Look I’m going to come clean on this: I would," he said with regards to a crossover at a recent Q&A.

"Go speak to Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Mark Gatiss and Sue Vertue, OK? They’re all in the way. I’m not the killjoy, it’s that lot. It’s probably not going to happen."

He went on to agree with Sherlock co-creator Gatiss that while a Sherlock – Doctor Who crossover may be tempting, the detective and the Time Lord are probably better off kept in their separate universes.

"You know in some ways, I think Mark [Gatiss] has got a point when he says that however good you imagine [the crossover], it would be almost better in your imagination than it would be if the two grand old egotists actually met," he added.

"They’d just both go off in opposite corners and sulk that there was someone cleverer than them."

Peter Capaldi takes over from Matt Smith as the Doctor proper on 23 August, with the BBC One premiere of series 8 episode 'Deep Breath'.

Ciara Is Cooking Up Hits For Her New Album With Dr. Luke

How do you solve a problem like Ciara? I’d suggest building a time machine and winding the calendar back to 2004. Another option would be connecting the diva with a surefire hitmaker, who his finger on the pulse of top 40 radio. CiCi, it seems, has opted for the latter. She posted a pic in the studio with Dr. Luke last night (August 8), proclaiming: “THE ENERGY IS INSANE… #MomentsCreated.”
If that wasn’t enough to get you hype for their collaboration, perhaps her follow-up post will. “This Guy Is Supa Awesome!” she wrote of the “Dark Horse” producer. “We R Having An Amazing Time, Making Classic Music.” I really hope this works out. Ciara’s last LP was terrific and deserved to do a whole lot better. Hopefully, Dr. Luke’s involvement will give Future‘s past the crossover pop hit her previous two eras have been missing. See the unlikely duo’s pics after the jump.

Iggy Azalea's "Black Widow" Was a Gift from Katy Perry

Now that Iggy Azalea 's shown everyone her "Fancy" side, she's showing a darker side with her latest single, "Black Widow."  If the song sounds a little bit like Katy Perry 's hit "Dark Horse," it's no surprise, since Katy co-wrote both songs.

Iggy explains that she became friendly with Katy the same way she got close to Ariana Grande , her "Problem" duet partner: she kept running into her at industry events, and that's what led to their musical collaboration.

"They are kinda just two girls that I always end up seeing at MTV Movie Awards, and I see them around a lot and I love them both," Iggy says of Katy and Ariana.  "They're really funny, quirky girls -- Ariana a lot more than people would realize!"  Iggy laughs, "She's actually a little feisty!"

But how did Iggy go from hanging out with Katy and Ariana at award shows to recording "Black Widow"?

"Katy Perry said to me, 'Hey I've got this song, I've been writing and I think you should do it. I just keep picturing you on it,'" Iggy explains to ABC News Radio. "That's how my collaboration with her kind of began: first we had a friendship and then she wrote something that she had me in mind for. And, being that her album was already out, I said, 'Will you let me have this for my album?'" Iggy laughs, "And she did me the kindness!"

Collaborating with Ariana, though, turned out to be a bit more difficult -- at first, she says, the two couldn't connect.

"I wanted to do something with her on her first album but it didn't end up being able to happen," Iggy tells ABC News Radio. "And I ended up meeting Max Martin , who I'd wanted been wanting to work with for a while too, and we did 'Problem' together and she came into the studio."

"It was really cool," adds the Australian rapper. "Usually I have to email back and forth with people and I don't get to actually work in person with them, but Ariana on this record was something where I did get to sit in the studio with her for two days and create."

In 2013, Peyton and Eli Manning announced to the world that you could get football on your phone.

The quarterback brothers rapped through the streets of New Orleans, making fun of Alexander Graham Bell with reckless abandon.

In 2014, the brothers have returned, promising a fantasy football fantasy.

The fantasy begins with Eli (probably) arriving home from the polo convention to find Peyton enjoying a comfortable pair of dad jeans.

Hope you saw Evanesence when you could...

EVANESCENCE singer Amy Lee, who became a first-time mother last month, has confirmed to RollingStone.com that she doesn't "have any plans to do anything with the band" for the foreseeable future.

"The situation is we're not doing it now," she said when asked about EVANESCENCE's current status.

"I don't like to make predictions about the future, because I'm honestly open-minded, and I would never want to say I'm done with any of it, because it's a huge part of me.

"I've loved my time with EVANESCENCE, I wouldn't want to just throw it away, but, for the foreseeable future, I don't have any plans to do anything with the band.

"It's really important to me to take some time to show some different sides of myself.

"I've said this all the way through EVANESCENCE, especially on the second and third record: 'I have the freedom to express myself completely within the band, so why would I want to do anything else?' And that's true only to an extent, because as much as I could go through a range of emotions, there's a certain expectation there.

"With the fans, with myself, I know what EVANESCENCE is; it's an entity, it's bigger than just myself, which is awesome, but I can write a song and go 'That is or isn't an EVANESCENCE song,' and they both happen. So there does need to be other outlets for me to make music."

Lee sued her longtime record label, Wind-Up, in January for at least $1.5 million over unpaid royalties and other alleged misdeeds. Lee alleged in her lawsuit that the company attempted to sabotage the band's career. The lawsuit has since been settled.

Asked about the factors that led to legal action and the ramifications of the settlement, Amy told RollingStone.com: "I can't say anything negative; I had to sign a non-disclosure, so that's the only way in any sense that I'm still bound.

"Everything's still the same for me; it's not like I no longer get paid any money when someone buys [EVANESCENCE's debut album] 'Fallen', but they sold it to somebody else. My back catalog is owned by this company Bicycle-Concord, and they're great, so there's nothing different there. But my future is mine, so anything I do from here forward is up to me, and it's awesome."

Lee will release a new album, "Amy Lee Featuring Dave Eggar: Aftermath", on August 25 via 110 Records, Inc. The disc is a film-score collaboration with Dave Eggar for the movie "War Story", which premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Lee told MTV earlier the year that the music for "Aftermath" is unlike anything she's done before. She explained, "It's going to surprise my fans. It's not what you'd expect; the film is very dark, very introspective . . . There are moments of playing, and it's musical, but there are a lot of moments where Dave and I just built walls of sounds, out of blaring cellos and trombones and synthesizers and harp, all on top of each other. Sort of creating new sounds. It's not, like, a soundtrack. it's an atmosphere."

Lee did write one new song for the film, called "Push The Button", about which she said, "It's very different for me, it's electronic; I did it all myself." She added, "This whole process has been really different, and freeing. Doing my band, it's always been a big deal, a lot of pressure, a lot of hoops to jump through and things to live up to . . . (this) wasn't about production and singles and worldwide success, it's about the integrity of the art piece we're creating."

Lee gave birth to a son named Jack Lion, on July 24. According to People.com, Jack Lion entered the world weighing seven pounds and 13 ounces. The 32-year-old Lee wrote on Instagram, "I have never known the depths of my heart till now. The world just exploded into Technicolor." Lee has been married to Josh Hartzler, a therapist, since May 2007. The couple live in New York City.

EVANESCENCE's third, self-titled album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 when it came out in 2011.

The band toured through mid-2012 in support of the CD, but has been inactive since then.

Jessica Chastain is opening up about the death of legendary actor Robin Williams and how he changed her life by funding a scholarship that she received to attend college.
“Robin Williams changed my life. He was a great actor and a generous person. Through a scholarship, he made it possible for me to graduate college. His generous spirit will forever inspire me to support others as he supported me. He will forever be missed,” the Oscar-nominated actress wrote on her Facebook account.
In a previous interview, Jessica said that Robin‘s funding “paid for my schooling, back and forth to go home for Christmas, books, everything. He actually made it possible for me to go to school there because my family were not incredibly wealthy and I was the first one to go to college.”
When talking about it over the last few years, Jessica said that she never had the chance to personally thank him for his generosity. One time he sat next to her at a restaurant, but before she had a chance to talk to him, he ended up leaving and she didn’t want to run after him.
We surely hope you got the chance to meet him, Jessica!

Guillermo del Toro Reveals Doing The Strain Has Been Rewarding & Wants To Be On Set For Season 2!

Speaking to Zap2It recently, del Toro revealed that when he’s working on a movie, he brings a lot of detail to the set, and that’s what he did for The Strain.

“I wanted Setrakian’s cane to be the most beautiful prop we could fabricate, but it was very expensive. I said I’d pay part of it and keep one,” he explained.

Although the majority of the viewers won’t notice the detail, del Toro explained a lot of work went into Abraham’s pawn shop. We don’t know if The Strain will be renewed for a second season. Reports surfaced the show has been renewed, but nothing has been confirmed.

Shooting began on the show in September 2013, so if the execs are going to keep the same time frame for a second season, we’re probably going to hear something pretty soon.

If there is a second season, del Toro has revealed that he wants to be on set every single day, and he’s cleared his schedule for the rest of 2014. “I don’t shoot anything until 2015 because I need to be there if they give us a second season,” he admitted.

Promo for episode 1.06 – Occultation: After warning Kelly to leave the city with Zack, Eph gets arrested by the FBI. Eichhorst has a final job for Gus, while Setrakian realizes the coming eclipse will be the tipping point for virus infection and the beginning of the end.

MMA Fighter "War Machine" On the Run After Assaulting 2 Victims

$

War Machine, formerly Jon Koppenhaver, was recently released from his Bellator promotional contract due to allegations that he assaulted his former girlfriend Christy Mack and another individual.

War Machine was reportedly involved in a three-person altercation early Friday morning, TMZ Sports first reported, citing Las Vegas police as its source. Police said that two of the involved parties suffered severe, but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital. One of the victims was described by police as War Machine’s “significant other.”

On Sunday, War Machine posted several comments on Twitter, several directed at Mack, saying he wasn’t a bad guy and was only trying to surprise his girlfriend with an engagement ring.

Mack on Monday posted graphic photos of the injuries she suffered, she says at the hand of War Machine, as well as a statement giving her account of what transpired.

Miss Mack’s unedited statement:

At around 2 am Friday morning, Jon Koppenhaver arrived unannounced to my home in Las Vegas, NV, after he broke up with me in May, he moved out of my house and back to San Diego. When he arrived, he found myself and one other fully clothed and unarmed in the house. Without a single word spoken, he began beating my friend; once he was finished, he sent my friend away and turned his attention to me. He made me undress and shower in front of him, then dragged me out and beat my face. I have no recollection of how many times I was hit, I just know my injuries that resulted from my beating.

My injuries include 18 broken bones around my eyes, my nose is broken in 2 places, I am missing teeth and several more are broken. I am unable to chew, or see out of my left eye. My speech is slurred from my swelling and lack of teeth. I have a fractured rib and severely ruptured liver from a kick to my side. My leg is so badly injured I have not been able to walk on my own. I also attained several lesions from a knife he got from my kitchen. He pushed the knife into me in some areas such as my hand, ear, and head. He also sawed much of my hair off with this dull knife. After some time, the knife broke off of the handle and continued to threaten me with the blade. I believed I was going to die. He has beaten me many times before, but never this badly.

He took my phone and cancelled all of my plans for the following week to make sure no one would worry about my whereabouts. He told me he was going to rape me, but was disappointed in himself when he could not get hard. After another hit or two, he left me on the floor bleeding and shaking, holding my side from the pain of my rib. He left the room and went to the kitchen where I could hear him ruffling through my drawers. Assuming he was finding a sharper, more stable knife to end my life, I ran out my back door, shutting it behind me so the dogs didn't run inside to tip him off. I hopped the fence to the golf course behind my house and ran to a neighboring house. Naked and afraid he would catch me, I kept running through the neighborhood knocking on doors. Finally, one answered and I was brought to the hospital and treated for my injuries.

I would like to thank everyone for their support through this rough time. I am healing fast and well, and I appreciate all of the prayers and visits I have received over the past few days. After many months of fear and pressure to keep this man happy, although I fear for my life, I feel that I can no longer put myself in this situation. The cheating by him nearly every day, and almost weekly abuse is now more than I can stand. There is a $10k reward for the capture of Jonathan Koppenhaver at this time. Please report any information to your local police.

Thank you.
-Christy Mack

As of the time of publication, War Machine had still eluded police custody.

The Season 2 finale of "Hit the Floor" brings Olivia Vincent's (Charlotte Ross) murder to the forefront -- and guess who doesn't have an alibi? Devil Girls team captain Jelena Howard (Logan Browning).

In this preview clip, Jelena says, "Olivia wasn't close to anyone. She burned a lot of bridges. ... Oscar fired her, I was simply the messenger," then confesses that her alibi for the time of Olivia's death is that she was alone, sleeping.

Did Jelena kill former Devil Girls dancer Olivia? The finale trailer teases that the answer will be revealed -- and Jelena is not the only person without a solid alibi. Kyle Hart (Katherine Bailess) tells Terrence Wall (Rob Riley) that she told the police they were together when Olivia was murdered, but it doesn't sound like that's the truth.

"Hit the Floor's" Season 2 finale airs Monday, Aug. 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on VH1.

It returns in May 2015 for Season 3.

Another Depresing and Unsurprising Study: Latina Women Most Likely to Be Naked On Screen

$
0
0

A new study spearheaded by Dr. Stacy L. Smith at USC's Annenberg School confirms what we already know: Hollywood sucks at portraying racial diversity.

But here's a surprise: It doesn't suck as much as you think -- as long as we're counting all speaking parts, and not just the protagonists.

Smith and her colleagues Marc Choueiti and Dr. Katherine Pieper surveyed the 100 top-performing films of the past seven years (2007-2013) and found that the numbers of black and Asian characters are more or less commensurate with 2010 U.S. census data.

Hispanic characters, on the other hand, are severely underrepresented and hypersexualized (both men and women) in film, even though Latinos make up the country's largest minority population.

More frustratingly, the diversification of the American film industry has stalled in the wake of its globalization. Black women directors have made very little inroads into mainstream filmmaking. And overall, the worlds depicted in the movies just don't reflect today's changing demographics (and they never did).

But you already knew that.

Here are some of the most interesting findings from Smith's study:

--People of color are significantly underrepresented in film -- but not evenly. White characters made up three-quarters (74.1%) of all speaking characters in the past seven years, but that overrepresentation obscures the fact that the ranks of black and Asian characters on film (14.1% and 4.4%, respectively) reflect real-life demographics (12.6% and 4.8% per the 2010 US Census).

--Hispanics are dramatically underrepresented and hypersexualized. In contrast to the representative numbers on black and Asian characters, only 4.9% of speaking characters in the years surveyed were Hispanic. Compare that to the 16.3% of the US population that is Hispanic -- and the fact that Latino moviegoers buy 25% of all theater tickets -- and the numbers are appalling.

Even worse, Hispanic women on screen are the most likely (37%) to be partially or fully naked among all women. Black and Asian women were the least likely to be sexualized (23.5% and 18.2%). White women stood at 31.9%. Interestingly, Hispanic men were also the most likely to be sexualized among all the male racial groups.

--Animators tend to create whiter movies compared to filmmakers as a whole. A quarter (25.9%) of all speaking-part roles were characters of color, but in animation the number of all characters of color stood at less than 15%. That's pretty depressing, especially given the fact that nearly half of all children under the age of 5 in the US today are not white.

--No progress on diversity on or behind the scenes has occurred between 2007 and 2013.

--Black female directors have made little inroads into the studio system. While the numbers of black male directors has held steady since 2007 (around 6.5%), only 2 black female directors were represented among the 23 black directors who made the 600 top-grossing films between 2007 and 2012. The study also disproved that 2013 was the Year of Black Cinema, since it was only the prominence, rather than the ranks, of black directors that changed last year. (Female directors of color of other races were not mentioned by the study.)

Hopefully this year's Amma Asante's Belle and Ava DuVernay's Selma will prove to be a turning point.
