Joe Jackson Pens Open Letter To Janet: ‘I’m Proud Of You’

Joe Jackson has been painted as everything from a monster to a genius over the decades. His love for his children overshadowed by greed and ambition.

Now, in a series of posts on his blog, Jackson is opening up about his notoriously private family. Beginning with his estranged wife Katherine Jackson, the family patriarch has written down his feelings about each of his children, culminating with today’s post about his “girl,” Janet:

Janet, the youngest in the family is very very smart. She was more like a tough kid. She was real rough. I mean she was rough. What do they call them… yes … tomboy. She was a tomboy.  She could whop all the girls. Really rough and really really smart. She is really easy nowadays. She has mellowed. She is now married and living a good life with her husband.

When I suffered 4 strokes last year, and was in the hospital recovering, only two people in my family traveled all the way to see in the hospital. My granddaughter Brandi (Jackie’s daughter and my baby girl Janet. She sat right next to me as I lay in bed, spent time with me, talking about a lot together. It meant a lot to me. I lay there listening to her as she talked about how she was going to get married. I am happy for her and wish her nothing but the best ! I never tell you this, but I am proud of you Janet.

Who may be one of the Four Horsemen in X-Men: Apocalypse?

The biggest news coming from the next X-Men movie X-Men: Apocalypse will be who is playing the famed Four Horsemen with the villain Apocalypse. But has writer Simon Kinberg already confirmed one of them?

Speaking with MTV News, Kinberg teased a return of Angel, played by Ben Foster in X-Men: The Last Stand, and said that while he was born in present day in that movie, he could come back for the 80s-set Apocalypse.

"I would say in terms of making any character decisions on Apocalypse is, we set back the clock on Days of Future Past, so a lot could have changed from that point in 1973 forward, meaning people could have been born earlier," Kinberg said. "The whole world changed after those events. Things that were represented even X1 and X2 and X3 wouldn't have happened in quite the same way."

Warren Worthington III, otherwise known as Angel, served as Death for Apocalypse in the comics and was one of the more famous members. While Angel showed up in The Last Stand, Kinberg has also shown a willingness to bring back characters already seen in previous X-Men and his comments say that he still feels that way.

While it was rumored that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine could be a villain also, Angel could be joining him as another Horseman. It will be interesting if they decide to bring back Foster to play the role, but more likely, they will find someone new and younger to fill the part.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit theaters on May 27, 2016.

Hemlock Grove Season 2 Interview With Famke Janssen

Famke Janssen adds immediate credibility to any project she works on.

While she would never admit it herself, the personable actress has one of the most impressive resumes in Hollywood, establishing herself as a powerhouse on both the big and small screens and offers an instant presence to Netflix’s Hemlock Grove.

Arguably best known for her role as Jean Grey in the X-Men movie franchise, Famke has garnered critical acclaim for her portrayal of Olivia on the series which recently premiered its sophomore season.

Hemlock Grove debuted last year and the horror-thriller is based on the 2012 book novel by Brian McGreevy. Both the book and the series are set in the fictional Hemlock Grove, Pennsylvania, a place known for its clear class distinction where you are either really rich or simply struggling to make ends meet. The town’s main sources of employment are the Hemlock Acres Hospital and the Godfrey Institute for Biomedical Technologies.

The story primarily revolves around Roman Godfrey (Bill Skarsgard), heir to the town’s wealthy Godfrey family, and his friendship with the town’s gypsy newcomer Peter Romancek (Landon Liboiron). In the first season, the reluctant and new-age crimefighting duo work together to solve a series of brutal murders that are being committed by a Vargulf (a mentally insane werewolf). Along the way, they not only discover secrets about themselves, but about all the people around them as well.

On the series, Janssen plays Olivia Godfrey. An upir (vampire), Godfrey’s primary function on the show is to guide her reluctant son, Roman, on the path that he was always destined to walk along. Despite his resistance, his mother is the only one who is fully aware of what he is capable of and their strained relationship is the core of the series. Olivia is manipulative, conniving, demanding and despicable but strangely also has a layer of likeability to her as well. The multifaceted character tows the line between being a vicious villain to an overprotective mother, displaying no real disparity between the two. The character is deliciously complex and, as a result, is the perfect role for Janssen to sink her teeth into.

I recently caught up with Famke Janssen to discuss how much the show has changed in its second incarnation from its first. I asked her about how Olivia redeemed herself at the end of the first season and whether this search for righteousness will continue in Hemlock Grove’s second season. In general we chatted about how the second season primarily devotes itself to humanizing its characters and making them much easier to relate to. Janssen talked about Olivia’s relationship with her son in great detail and also previewed the addition of Madeline Brewer (Orange Is The New Black) to the cast as well. With the crazy storyline twists that happen in every episode, I asked Janssen which script stunned her the most. Finally, I pitched her on an idea for a new character for the show’s third season.

'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' to Become Self-Help Book

Dennis, Dee, Mac, Frank and Charlie from Always Sunny have already taught us plenty of things: how to sing a cappella, how to excel at the game of Flip Cup, and how not to act on a first date, for example. Since they’re so good at teaching people how to live their lives, they’ve written a self-help book, which will be released in January. (It’s available for pre-order on Amazon now.)

The book is called It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The 7 Secrets of Awakening the Highly Effective Four-Hour Giant, Today. Based on the description, it’s actually a bit hard to tell if it’s really a self-help book, or if it’s simply a book outlining the story of the gang writing a self-help book:

The Gang may have finally found their golden ticket. Left alone to close down Paddy’s Pub one night, Charlie Kelly inadvertently scored himself, and his friends, the opportunity of a lifetime—a book deal with a real publishing company, real advance money, and a real(ly confused) editor. While his actual ability to read and write remains unclear, Charlie sealed the deal with some off-the-cuff commentary on bird law and the nuances of killing rats (and maybe with the help of some glue fumes in the basement with an unstable editor on a bender). While The Gang is stunned by the news, and the legally binding, irrevocable contract left on the bar, they are also ready to rise to the task and become millionaires—and of course, help Charlie actually write the book.

But further details suggest that the book will indeed include some real advice:

In their own inimitable voices, Charlie, Mac, Dennis, Sweet Dee, and Frank weigh in on important topics like Relationships, Financial Success and Career, Fashion and Personal Grooming, Health and Diet, and Survival Skills, providing insane advice, tips, tricks, and recipes (Rum Ham anyone?) as only they can.

We already knew they were crab people — now we also know they’re book people.

Leo Continues to Be a Great Source for New Internet Memes

So, This Is Leonardo DiCaprio Running Shirtless With a Squirt Gun

What we know is this: Leo was armed with a squirt gun in Italy, hanging out with friends near a pool. He could be running straight from the park to watch fireworks, or he could be going to eat ice pops until he throws up. But any context outside of Leo running aimlessly with a squirt gun is really unimportant; DiCaps is experiencing the summer of summers.

While looking at a photograph like this, it's vital to understand that Leo is, apparently, having the most fun any human has ever had in all of recorded human history. With the glee of a child at the onset of summer break, Leo is sprinting into the happiness record books.

Being big Leo fans here at Mashable, we've taken the liberty to make a few improvements to this already perfect image. Take a look, below.

The 3-Part Real Housewives of New York Reunion Starts With A Bang!!!

The preview begins with Sonja Morgan well — being Sonja. The stunning businesswoman is shown getting ready and trying to figure out what kind of bra to wear!

Heather Thomson had positive guess as how reunion would go. “I think there will be a lot of laughter on the couch this season. I think we had a lot of fun, there are a lot of very true friendships on the show, although you don’t see that in all the women.”

Ramona on the other hand, already knew the women were going to give her a hard time. “I know that I’m going to get flack for the Berkshires, the bottom line is that I left because Kristen was having like a hard on still for me. She wasn’t giving up her upsetness with me, which ok, but I’m an adult, if I want to leave, I can leave.”

Newcomer, Kristen Taekman, always seems to keep things positive, and sweetly only wanted to see the girls get along with Aviva again. “I would like to see some resolution with Aviva. Why she threw her leg at all of us at La Sur, a whole like limb removal.”

LuAnn de Lesseps, a seasoned pro at reunions, delivered the best line. “If you thought it was crazy to see Aviva put her leg on the table, wait till you see the reunion.”

Tim Gunn admits to feeling 'conflicted' about trans models

$

The same week that Andreja Pejic came out publicly as a transgender model, Project Runway's Tim Gunn is admitting that he has mixed feelings about a trans woman in the runway.

'I'm conflicted,' Gunn told Huffington Post prior to Pejic's announcement. 'On one hand, I don't want to say that because you were a man and now you're a woman, you can't be in a women's fashion show. But I feel it's a dicey issue.

'The fact of the matter is, when you are transgender - if you go, say, male to female - you're not having your pelvis broken and having it expanded surgically. You still have the anatomical bone structure of a man.'

For Gunn, it's all about women and men having different shapes anatomically.

'So, to be looking at women's fashion on a tall, skinny guy with no hips, there's no way you can project yourself into those clothes,' he says.

'It underscores all of those body issues that we know women have," Gunn adds. 'It's the world telling us that there's something wrong with us and that we'd look better in our clothes and the world would think us more beautiful if we looked like this. I think it's horrible.'

Where's Janet? Marvel's 'Ant-Man' Omission Provokes Online Outcry

$
0
0

Dammit, Janet.

The announcement this weekend that Evangeline Lilly would be playing a character called Hope Van Dyne in Marvel’s troubled Ant-Man came as a surprise to many comic book fans that had been expecting her character to be called Janet Van Dyne—better known to most as the Wasp, founding member of the Avengers (indeed, the character who named the team), former wife to Ant-Man and Marvel Entertainment’s second female hero, behind the Fantastic Four’s Invisible Woman.

By contrast, Hope Van Dyne—or Hope Pym, as the character is known in the comics—is the daughter of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas in the movie) and Janet, and a super villain in her own right, known as the Red Queen. But where if her daughter exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, does that mean that Janet does, as well? Apparently not.

In a recent interview, Douglas explained that the backstory of the movie includes “a tragic personal accident [that] happened with my wife.” Janet, it seems, is no more.

Oddly enough, this is the second time that the Wasp has missed out on an appearance in a Marvel movie; the character was also in early drafts of Joss Whedon’s Avengers screenplay, only to be removed later to focus on the already-established characters.

In response to this latest perceived slight to the character, fans have launched a social media campaign directed against Marvel Studios, based around the pun-ny hashtag #JanetVanCrime.

There’s a lot to unpack here, not least of which the actual status of a cinematic Wasp. Given that we already know that the Ant-Man movie isn’t following the comic book history of Ant-Man with a great deal of fidelity—to the point where Yellowjacket, a costumed identity in the comics that belonged to Hank Pym himself, is actually an entirely different character played by Corey Stoll—there’s actually no reason to assume that the movie Hope Van Dyne won’t end up becoming the Wasp instead of the Red Queen, and end up taking the place of the comic book Janet in many respects.

Of course, she can’t help form the movie Avengers—that ship sailed two years ago—but the Wasp (or, at least, a Wasp) may yet fly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even if she isn’t called Janet. If that turns out to be the case, can we at least hope for the #JanetVanCrime crusade to become a more hopeful #NomDePym?

Wesley Snipes Wants 'Blade 4' to Happen

'The Expendables 3' star Wesley Snipes is open to returning
and jokes about a sequel where 'Blade' chases the 'Twilight' kids.
NEMHNG0VbSjtQQ_1_b
Wesley Snipes headed down to San Diego this weekend to promote his action-packed sequel The Expendables 3 at Comic-Con 2014. In two separate interviews, the actor addresses the possibility of reprising one of his most iconic roles, the vampire-killer Blade.
While it doesn't seem that any definitive plans are in place yet, the actor told MTV that he would be open to returning for Blade 4.
"I'd be open to it. I think we've got some stones left unturned and there's some latitude left for us to build on and I'd love to get back in the suit again and do some things I've learned how to do now that I didn't know how to do then. I think we're better at making that kind of a film now. Some of the things we did in the early parts of the franchise were experimental and now they've become customary in a lot of the Avengers films and other comic book adaptations."
In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor joked that the sequel should follow the Daywalker as he hunts down the Twilight vampires.
"Blade chasing the Twilight kids around? Hey man, there's always a possibility, and I'm open to it. There have been rumors around that we may explore the opportunity, so give me one more shot! I've gotten a little bit better, and I think we can add a little flavor to it."
Back in May 2013, Marvel Studios reacquired the rights to Blade and other properties such as The Punisher, Ghost Rider and Daredevil. Later that month, we reported that Marvel is developing a Blade reboot, but that would essentially mean that we won't see Wesley Snipes return to reprise his famed character, which he played in 1998's Blade, 2002's Blade 2 and 2004's Blade: Trinity.
Would you rather see Wesley Snipes return in Blade 4, or a new Blade reboot? Chime in with your thoughts below.
Blade was released August 19th, 1998 and stars Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, N'Bushe Wright, Donal Logue, Udo Kier, Arly Jover, Traci Lords. The film is directed by Stephen Norrington.

Gay diver Matthew Mitcham was surprised when Tom Daley came out

Australian diver Matthew Mitcham, the only openly gay male athlete at the 2008 Summer Olympics, is not even the only out diver at this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Also diving is Britain's Tom Daley who came out last year and has since gone public with his relationship with Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

Mitcham says he was 'as surprised as anyone else when Daley, 20, posted his coming out video on YouTube.

'I’d even had dinner with him a month before it happened and I never knew anything,' Mitcham tells CNN. 'I totally understand with how young he is and, growing up in the public eye, it would’ve been extremely hard.

'I felt very fortunate that I didn’t get famous until after I had well and truly established my sexual identity, whereas he’s been in the spotlight since he was 13. It’s a really hard position to be in so I totally commend and support how he did it and when he did it.'

Mitcham has had supportive words for fellow Aussie athlete Ian Thorpe, a retired swimmer, who came out publicly earlier this month after years of speculation about his sexuality.

'It must have been a very harrowing ordeal,' Mitcham told the Sydney Morning Herald earlier this month. '... It took him 15 years to change his answer [to the question of his sexuality], which is a perfect indicator of his struggle.'

Orlando Bloom Throws Punch at Justin Bieber

Orlando Bloom took a swing at Justin Bieber early Wednesday morning in Ibiza, Spain, and Justin fled the restaurant ... this according to an eyewitness.

The eyewitness tells TMZ ... Orlando was in Cipriani restaurant which was packed with celebs, including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Diddy.

Listen closely as you watch the video. It sounds like Justin, in the middle of a shoving match, screams, "What's up bitch?"

You don't see Orlando swing, but the eyewitness tells us that's exactly what happened.

The backstory is almost legendary ... Justin partied with Orlando's then-wife Miranda Kerr after a 2012 Victoria's Secret fashion show in NYC and they got very VERY close. And in April of this year, Orlando was hanging out with Justin's on-and-off GF Selena Gomez. So the bad blood is flowing.

The 11 (5) Greatest Reality Show Winners of All Time

$
0
0

As we plow through more seasons of "Big Brother," "So You Think You Can Dance," and "The Bachelor" this summer, it's hard not to ask what the merits of winning a reality competition are. Do we applaud manipulative prowess? Sheer talent? Sheer watchability? Every show is different, but -- with the exception of the last couple seasons of "SYTYCD" -- one thing is certain: There can only be one winner. And fans usually bathe that winner in a glorious light for eternity.

We got to thinking about our favorite reality shows and the winners who made them great. After narrowing down the options and reducing reality TV to its most phenomenal victories and players, we came up with this Top 11.

11. Sharon Needles - RuPaul's Drag Race

Sharon Needles, the first winner of "RuPaul's Drag Race" to feel like the undisputed champ, defined charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent but also brought an undervalued fifth element to RuPaul's glamordome: unpredictability. She was not only "beautiful, spooky, and stupid" (as she famously defined herself), but a provocateur who could deliver ferocity and a joke. Who can forget her bawdy, perfectly cuckoo impersonation of Michelle Visage in "Snatch Game"? If only her ex-beau Alaska Thunderf*ck could've won season five, we'd have a droll, dangerously sultry dynasty on our hands.

10. Danielle Evans - America's Next Top Model

It's easy to pick Danielle as the greatest "ANTM" contestant because she was damn funny ("I'm about to regurgitate on someone's face right now," she said of her elephant ride), cool, and just a striking model with the most expressive eyes in the show's history. Her post-show career speaks for itself, but she blew us away first with how should could work menthol-induced tears on camera.

5. Dr. Will - Big Brother

Dr. Will Kirby combines the most beloved two character traits of a "Big Brother" houseguest: shrewdness and egomania. He warned his competitors that he was a born liar, but that didn't stop him from dominating his season with brutally condescending wit. Kirby subscribed to the idea that the bigger the lie you tell, the easier it is to believe -- and that clearly worked considering how flawless his duping powers were. And though he didn't win season six, I am a big fan of how he correctly predicted Janelle would fall in love with him.

3. Christian Siriano - Project Runway

Season four is definitely not my favorite year of "Project Runway" (My top five in that respect: 2, 3, 1, 5, and 8), but Christian Siriano can't be faulted for confidently pumping out a near-flawless stream of looks during his season. He could churn out looks that were both voluminous and sleek or dreamy and fierce -- often all in the same look. His frilly, outsize collaboration with Chris March? His devastating denim ensemble? His jarringly hot final collection? The through-line of his work is incredible execution, and you have to give the then- 21-year-old designer for knowing it. Props to him. And nothing is funnier than when he'd call Tim Gunn "lady."

1. Kelly Clarkson - American Idol

Kelly Clarkson, to this day, is the reality TV winner who makes us love reality TV. She was thrilled to participate in such an experimental spectacle and completely willing to blow us away with unexpected power every single week on "American Idol." Her performance of "Stuff Like That There" is still so zesty, her "Walk On By" is still so heartfelt, and her version of "A Moment Like This" made you believe in the power of a single victorious performance. Carrie Underwood may have been a fabulous talent, but Kelly was a fabulous talent and a legendary charismatic reality TV star.

Elizabeth Berkley & Mario Lopez Have No Interest In Lifetime's Saved By The Bell TV Movie!

The two chatted about why they have no desire to see the upcoming unauthorized "Saved by the Bell" TV movie set to air on Lifetime.

Mario said, “Now, Elizabeth, you made headlines this week when you said you aren't the least bit curious about the ‘Saved by the Bell’ TV movie that's coming out, and I have to say, I’ve got to agree with you.”

Elizabeth asked, “You share that with me?” Mario replied, “One hundred percent.”

Elizabeth continued, “I feel like we know the lives we led, and I think they're taking it off of the unauthorized book by Dustin Diamond… so it's a little silly to give credence to that when we know the innocence and the joy that we shared.”

Berkley also spoke out about the way the media refers to pregnant women. Mario asked, “Not a big fan of the terms 'ready to burst'… or ballooning?”

Elizabeth responded, “No. I just feel like in our culture, people aren't really honoring a woman's journey through that time, it's really about, like bump watch, let's see how big she's getting. At what point did it become this kind of, like, sporting event to kind of judge where someone's at?"
