The Morning Show EP: Critics are "Apple haters"

$

When Apple TV+'s new series The Morning Show debuted at the beginning of this month, the critical reviews were not kind.

Executive producer and director Mimi Leder - along with writer Kerry Ehrin - didn't really mince words when she heard just how bad they were: “When those reviews came in I didn’t know what show they were watching. I thought they were nuts. The reviews felt like an attack on Apple."

She went on to say that they felt very pre-meditated and that is not fair attacks on the tech company were thrown at the shows direction.

I guess it's Apple fault the show takes itself way too seriously, gives Reese Witherspoon too many over-the-top acting moments, and cast Steve Carell.

Anyway, OP recommends watching the superior Apple TV+ show: Dickinson.

People reports that the Duggar family home was reportedly raided by Homeland Security Investigations agents last week amid an “ongoing federal criminal investigation.”

A Homeland Security Investigations spokesperson told the local NBC affilate, KNWA, that “I do not dispute the information that HSI was present there, Duggar home, pursuant to an on-going federal criminal investigation.”

The HSI did not give a reason for the raid and and the U.S. District Attorney for Western Arkansas would not comment on the case.

A rep for the Duggar family denied the report to People. People reached out Department of Homeland Security and TLC for comment and got no response.

#SoundsAboutWhite: Julia Roberts Was Once Suggested to Play Harriet Tubman

Today in "Ha, wow, they....they really did that.", it was revealed by Gregory Allen Howard ("Harriet" screen writer) that way back in the year 1994, they were working on another Harriet Tubman biopic.

“I was told how one studio head said in a meeting, ‘This script is fantastic. Let’s get Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman." Howard said.

For those of you who do not know, Julia Roberts is a white woman.

Pictured: No melanin.

"When someone pointed out that Roberts couldn’t be Harriet, the executive responded,‘It was so long ago. No one is going to know the difference.'”

"So long ago" being around 1849. 170 Years ago. And an even shorter distance in 1994.

As we know, Roberts was not cast (I wonder if she was even asked...), and today, we have "Harriet", starring Cynthia Erivo, a black British woman.

Well, that's a little closer, I suppose.

-Jawbreaker which starred Rose McGowan, Rebecca Gayheart, Julie Benz, and Judy Greer recently turned 20!

-Director Darren Stein takes a look back at the film and the cult status it gained.

-He based the concept off of real life Valley girls who would kidnap their friends on their birthdays but decided to give it a bit of a twist by having the friend accidentally die.

-Every major studio passed on it but Sony's home video division decided to take it on and gave him a small budget of $3.5 million to make the film making it the first film that they actually produced as opposed to just buying films.

-Sony attached Rose to the film which helped get it off the ground while Rebecca/Julie auditioned for their roles. Judy was a last minute addition as the original actress tapped to play Fern dropped out 1 week before filming started to do a television pilot.

-He wrote the infamous "boyfriend gives Popsicle head" scene for himself as it was the type of gay scene he had wanted while he was growing up watching movies.

-He did try to reboot the film as a television series but it never made it past the pilot stage, but he is currently attempting to make it into a musical.

-The film recently came out on blu-ray to celebrate 20 years.

Producers on the movie pressured her to fix her teeth.
Dunst, who was then 20 years old, refused to do.

“On ‘Spider-Man‘ one of the producers tried to subtly coerce me into changing my teeth into those perfect Barbie doll teeth. I was like, ‘Nope, not doing that either.'”

She’s always been able to stand her ground, crediting strong female role models for imbuing her with confidence.

"Left me and Melody stranded in Vegas and blocked me from calling.. now you wanna post family photos," she wrote with a laugh-crying emoji and the hashtag #ByeUgly.

Princess is currently eight months pregnant, and later shares details of her current situation.
"Yes I can fly home.. I have my own money. But my car is here and I don't want to drive back alone with my daughter because I'm over 8 months pregnant and I don’t even want to have to stop for gas or go into labor with all of this human trafficking going on…"

Icymi Recap From Yesterday

Omg 12 hours

. Vindman testimony was very damaging and he had the two best quotable moments. In his opening statement, he ended with a personal anecdote, saying about his father You made the right decision 40 years ago to leave the Soviet Union and come here to the United States of America in search of a better life for our family. Do not worry, I will be fine for telling the truth. Then later, Maloney [who I have a crush on but then I discovered he’s gay and married, so I still have a crush on him, but not a sexy-time crush] set him up perfectly by probing further why Vindman wasn’t afraid to testify. Vindman said, This is America. This is the country I've served and defended. That all of my brothers have served. And here, right matters.

. Vindman testified about the secret server, and that he prepared talking points for the perfect July 25 call to include not only the perfunctory congratulations but also discuss general progress on eliminating Ukraine corruption (to which Zelensky was elected to do just that). But on the call, T45 with the best words, never brought up general Ukraine corruption, only Burisma and Bidens specifically.

. GOP attacked Vindman’s competence, loyalty, and patriotism by mentioning that Morrison (who testified later) had expressed concerns about Vindman’s judgment, and that he was offered Ukraine Defense Ministry post. Vindman came with receipts, quoting from a performance appraisal from his previous boss Fiona Hill (testifying Thursday), and that he declined the Ukraine job 3x and told his superiors about it per protocol.

. T45 attacked Vindman from the official White House account, and mocked him for wearing his uniform (required of military during court proceedings) and because he requested Cowbell Nunes to address him by his honorific Lieutenant Colonel. [Idk how anyone in the military supports this trash admin].

. Gym Jordan and Cowbell Nunes are still fixated on the whistleblower, attacking Vindman in particular for allegedly speaking to the w.b. or knowing who he was. Schiff shut them down.

. Williams who was assigned to the VP office was low key and no surprise moments, she had already testified that she found the perfect call not so perfect, alarming, and inappropriate. The Dems were also able to ensure she pointed out that T45 cancelled Pence attending Ukraine inauguration re/in support of the timeline of bribery and extortion.

. Volker and Morrison were in the afternoon session and were requested by GOP for their testimony. That didn’t go like they thought it would go. Mess.

. Volker changed his testimony on quid pro quo. He had an epiphany otherwise known as cover your ass because of all the other testimony that came to light. End result, oops. He does indeed connect the dots that the favor was to investigate Bidens, in return for receiving [already Congress approved] $400M in military aid.

. Volker did a pretty good job with straddling a fine line but he didn’t do the GOP any favors, and he ultimately helped the Dem case

. Morrison was pretty ridiculous. Fun fact, he is 7ft 1in tall. Anyway, he was so alarmed by the call that he met with NSC lawyers directly afterwards. And he thought the call summary should be on the secure server because it might leak out. But then also double talked that he didn’t think anything was unusual. Because that’s totally normal behavior when something is perfect and usual.

. Volker and Morrison testified that they thought the Burisma Biden conspiracy claims were bogus and had no credence (oops GOP). And that it was accepted by the entire intelligence community that Russia interfered in 2016, not Ukraine.

. Oh, Rudy Colludy was thrown under a eleventy billion buses

Testify!

List of those expected to testify

Day 4 Wednesday 20 November
Two sessions @ 9AM and @ 230PM eastern

Morning, Gordon Sondland, US Ambassador to the European Union
Afternoon, Laura Cooper, Deputy Asst Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia
Afternoon, David Hale, Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs

Day 5 Thursday 21 November
One session @ 9AM

Morning, Fiona Hill, former National Security Council for Soviet Union, Russian, and European Affairs
Morning, David Holmes, State Department counselor of affairs for US Embassy in Ukraine

Future testimony will be added each day, in case it changes

Impeachment Fun Facts

. Impeachment is a political recourse, not a legal recourse

. The House votes to Impeach. A simple majority 51% is all it takes to send the article(s) of impeachment to the Senate for a trial. Democrats have enough votes without bipartisan support.

. The Senate holds the trial to Remove. A 2/3rd super majority is required to Remove a President from office. It would take ~20 Republicans to break ranks. Public opinion as hearings progress will influence how the House and Senate votes.

. The House can vote to Impeach on some or all articles but the Senate still acquit. It can’t be reversed, and still goes on permanent record until the earth no longer exists. Votes for or against will be used in campaigns for 2020 election.

. Nixon was never Impeached. He resigned before the articles of Impeachment were put to House floor vote. VP Ford became President, and the next election saw a significant shift of Dems winning seats plus Carter won the next election.

. Clinton was Impeached by the House but acquitted by the Senate. His approval rating went up. Despite Gore winning the popular vote, Bush43 was appointed President by the Supreme Court after the contested battle of electoral votes in Florida, because ~Florida.

Billboard's staff picks the 100 best albums of the 2010s

$
0
0

At the beginning of the 2010s, many predicted the slow death of the album—but at the decade's end, the format still seems absolutely vital, if forever changed. Here are [five of] the Billboard staff's 100 favorite albums from the decade that was.

97. Porter Robinson, Worlds (2014)
As progressive house was starting to sound anything but, over the increasingly homogenized course of the EDM boom, Porter Robinson was one of the few DJs whose music and imagination remained as open as a festival field. Debut full-length LP Worlds was like Daft Punk's Discovery for millennials raised on anime and ProTools—lush and lo-fi, robotic and sentimental, vividly 16-bit.

73. Kesha, Rainbow (2017)

49. David Bowie, Blackstar (2016)
Released on his 69th birthday, just two days before cancer claimed his life, David Bowie knew full well Blackstar would be his swan song... Even so, there's nothing maudlin or nostalgic about this reflective, measured goodbye from one of the greats. And somehow, that makes it even more heartbreaking.

25. ROSALÍA, El Mal Querer (2018)

1. Kanye West, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010)
From the self-loathing minimalist odyssey of "Runaway" to the martial call-to-arms of "All of the Lights" (stuffed with guest stars ranging from Rihanna to Elton John) to the intoxicating, stomping menace of "Monster" (complete with a ferocious star-making verse from Nicki Minaj) to the breath-stopping bleakness of "Lost In the World,"My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is the sound of an artist—using the studio as a palette—grappling with his contradictions, unhappiness and the carnal diversions he turns to as an all-too-brief balm for the uncertain soul.

She still speaks highly of her former bandmates and wants to underline that they're not "evil people", it was more a creative conflict.

Screen Stars Heading to the Stage in 2020

$
0
0

Timothée Chalamet is set to star opposite Eileen Atkins in Amy Herzog's Pulitzer Prize finalist 4000 Miles next spring at the Old Vic in London. The play is set in the apartment of a woman whose grandson turns up on her doorstep after a loss. Chalamet won a Lucille Lortel award for his last theater outing, the off-Broadway production of John Patrick Shanley's Prodigal Son in 2016. The Olivier award winning Atkins is currently starring opposite Jonathan Pryce on Broadway's In the Height of the Storm. Previews begin April 6, with the play running through May 23rd.

Chalamet isn't the only screen actor heading to the stage next year - check under the cuts for more stars of the big and small screens who've decided to tread the boards this winter and spring.

Jerry O'Connell is one of the latest additions to the upcoming revival of A Soldier's Play by Charles Fuller. The Kenny Leon-directed production will star David Alan Grier and Blair Underwood, and has a number of ensemble roles. The play revolves around the investigation of the death of a black sergeant in 1944, and begins performances at the American Airlines Theater on December 27th, 2019.

Armie Hammer is set to star alongside Tony-winner Jessie Mueller, Tracy Letts and more in the Broadway premiere of The Minutes, also written by Letts. The play debuted at Steppenwolf in Chicago, and is about small town politics. Hammer was last on stage in Young Jean Lee's Straight White Men. The play will begin performances on February 25, 2020, ahead of a March 15th opening.

Debra Messing is set to return to Broadway in April 2020 in Birthday Candles, written by Noah Haidle and directed by Vivienne Benesch. The play covers a lifetime's worth of birthdays for Messing's character, with the only constant throughout being the recipe for her birthday cake. Messing made her Broadway debut in John Patrick Shanley's Outside Mullingar in 2014. The production is scheduled to run at the American Airlines Theatre through June 21st.

Ben McKenzie will make his Broadway debut in Grand Horizons, which begins performances December 23rd at the Hayes Theater and runs for 10 weeks this winter. The play, written by Bess Wohl and directed by Leigh Silverman, will also star Jane Alexander, James Cromwell, Ashley Park and Michael Urie.

Mary-Louise Parker and David Morse are set to reprise their roles in the Pulitzer Prize winning play How I Learned to Drive by Paula Vogel. It's about a woman reckoning with years of sexual abuse by her uncle, and the pair first played their roles in 1997. The play is set to begin previews at the Samuel J. Friedman theater in March 2020.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick will star together in Neil Simon's Plaza Suite on Broadway. Previews begin March 13, 2020 for the John Benjamin Hickey directed revival of the 1968 comedy at the Hudson Theater. The play is about three couples, each played by Parker and Broderick, who occupy a suite at the Plaza Hotel. While Matthew Broderick has appeared on stage quite often throughout his career, this is Parker's first return to the stage in over twenty years.

Oscar Isaac and Greta Gerwig will star in an adaptation of Chekov's Three Sisters directed by Sam Gold at the New York Theater Workshop this spring. Dates haven't been announced yet for the production, but it's the last show of the season for NYTW, so late spring is my best guess. Isaac was most recently on stage in Hamlet at the Public Theater a couple of years ago, and Gerwig in Gold's adapation of The Village Bike.

Jesse Williams and Jesse Tyler Ferguson will star alongside an ensemble cast in Take Me Out, which is set to run at the Hayes Theater starting April 2nd.

Laurie Metcalf, Rupert Everett and Russell Tovey are set to star in Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, opening April 2020. This production will be directed by Joe Mantello at the Booth Theatre.
