On The Scene: Cam’ron Proves He Is The Belle of The Ballroom

Step aside House Mother Kanye, there’s a new fashionable bitch in town and he is coming for that ballroom trophy. Dipset rapper Cam’ron debuted his new cape line with designer Mark McNairy at New York Fashion Week on Tuesday (February 11).

“I was wearing capes in the street even before this came about. This is why this is part of this fashion week because they seen me on Instagram rocking the cape,” Cam shared with Complex while backstage at the fashion viewing. “It was opening day February 2, after the Super Bowl. That’s when the streets got it. I don’t know when we’re going to put them on sale yet, but it’s been opening day for me for about 10 days.”

The seasoned stunt queen took to the runway with his girlfriend to close the show and when asked if he was nervous about strutting his stuff replied, ”I mean, the thing is with me, my life is a catwalk. Everything is a catwalk for me. I walk to the store and that’s a catwalk. So to me, this is pretty much easy.”

Radiohead launch their own PolyFauna app for iOS and Android

Radiohead have become the latest band to launch their own smartphone and tablet app, with the release of PolyFauna for Android, iPhone and iPad.

The free app is a collaboration with design agency Universal Everything, based on imagery and sounds from the song Bloom, from the band’s The King of Limbs album.

In a blog post announcing its release, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke described the app as an “experimental collaboration” that “comes from an interest in early computer life-experiments and the imagined creatures of our subconscious”.

The app gets fans to explore an “evolving world” by moving around and following a red dot on-screen. It’s eerie, rather beautiful, and occasionally makes you feel a bit seasick – pretty suitable for the music it’s based on, in other words.

PolyFauna is reminiscent of some of the elements of Björk’s Biophilia app, whose interactive visualisations and mini-games took their cues from the biological themes in her album of the same name.
Radiohead's PolyFauna app. Radiohead's PolyFauna app.

Other musicians to have recently released official apps include Tinie Tempah, whose Rap Demonstration app lets fans lip-sync to his new album using the star’s (virtual) mouth, and Lady Gaga, whose ARTPOP app encouraged fans to create and share animated GIFs with slogans.

Yorke and musician/producer Nigel Godrich – credited as a collaborator on PolyFauna – made headlines in 2013 with their strong criticism of streaming music service Spotify, with Yorke memorably describing it as “the last desperate fart of a dying corpse” in October.

However, Yorke and Radiohead have a track record of experimenting with new technology to deliver their music to fans, from Radiohead’s decision to sell their In Rainbows album direct to fans for whatever price they chose, to Yorke and Godrich’s Atoms for Peace working with startup Soundhalo to sell live recordings of live concerts.

Real Housewives of New York Season 6 Preview Promises All Batshit Craziness You Can Handle!

After being off the air for almost two years, the Bravo reality hit is set to return in March, and on Wednesday (Feb. 12), the channel offered fans an in-depth preview of what's to come.

1. Sonja's apparently dating 23-year-olds. HAHAHA. In reality, Ms. Morgan will continue her descent into Grey Gardens territory: Her house is in trusteeship, her teeth are falling out. It looks rough.

2. Ramona, who's currently going through a dramatic divorce with icky husband Mario, will go through a bit of an empty-nest phase with daughter Avery off at college.

3. Get ready for an extremely rare Housewives crossover. Carole and Kristen do lunch with "RHOBH" babes Brandi Glanville and Yolanda Foster. Why? Looks like Kristen and Brandi are old modeling pals.

4. Kristen, who's gonna have plenty of home life drama with what looks like a lout of a husband, speaks the truth when it comes to Ramona and Sonja: "They seem like my crazy, drunk aunts."

5. Aviva will visit the farm equipment that stole her leg as a child.

6. The women take a trip to Missoula, Mont. Whoever let this group of unstable drunks throw axes is a dangerous person whose decisions aren't to be trusted because, Sonja and Ramona and axes? Yikes.

7. The fight is the season's biggest tease. It results in Aviva's leg off her body, on the floor, during an attempt at a classy affair. Will she throw it at Heather? Will someone yank it off? We demand answers!

Why Was Jill Zarin Fired?

Jill dished the deets on Oprah: Where Are They Now? "Being fired from the Housewives was not a surprise, at all, to me," she admits in a video. Then she dove into "what nobody knows."

"One night, I was just — I think I took a sleeping pill, and I typed out an email to my producer, and three out of the five housewives. And I said, 'I'm leaving the show.'" In the email, she explained that she was in a good place, and wanted to leave on a high note.

Jill clarifies that she never sent emails to Bravo. "I kind of got cold feet the next day." Jill says that she had a sixth sense when she got the call from her production company about being fired. She adds that she "shed a few tears, because when anything ends, it seems so final."

Jill goes on to say that she doesn't know exactly why she was axed. "Nobody will tell me the true answer!" At the time she was told "that they thought the show had gone so dark that it couldn't recover, and they needed to change the cast. I don't think the fans would agree."

Alexia Says RHOM Renewed For Season 4

Bravo has yet to confirm anything and last season's viewer numbers were dismal, Alexia confidently says that producers confirmed with her that season four IS a go. "There will definitely be a season four for Miami. I have spoken to producers and they are currently working on dates for taping, since we usually begin taping this time of year we were told taping is being pushed back."

Joanna recently said that she had no idea if season four got the green light, but Alexia essentially says Joanna is a ditz. "Joanna has poor comprehension and lack of understanding as to what [the producers] said because what she is telling the media is not what they said."

Alexia continues, slamming her co-star "Honestly, at this point I really feel very offended by her careless comments towards Miami and her fellow cast mates. She has no loyalty and I do not believe she belongs here or in any of the franchises. She doesn't belong in Miami because she doesn't really live here and she doesn't belong in BH for obvious reasons."

Ouch! Actually, Joanna never said she wanted to be off Miami, just that she'd prefer to film with BH since she spends most of her time in L.A. Nor did Joanna say that the show was for sure canceled.

Marvel's PHASE 3 Plans Confirmed?

$

With IRON MAN 3 and THOR: The DARK WORLD ringing in Phase 2, we still have CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON to look forward to. Obviously, everyone is so excited that we’re already bypassing it with speculation about Phase 3.

Already there has been word about a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, a Black Widow spin off, and of course, news about Captain America 3, Thor 3, Ant-Man and a Dr. Strange movie. I think that’s everything. So what’s true and what’s not so true?

"I can confirm that as of the end of January, Marvel had no plans to make a Guardians 2. Marvel was planning on Guardians being a one and done. So unless they have done a complete 180 in the last couple weeks, I very much doubt there will be a Guardians 2."

Now, fret not Guardian lovers. If the movie makes a boatload of money (which, come on, it probably will) then there might be a sequel. But all those reports that are saying there is already a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel in the works, not true. Makes sense. So what other characters will Marvel be looking to be exploring in Phase Three?

"They only have so many films they can do each year and they don’t want them all to be trilogies to where they’re just dealing with the same handful of characters for the next 5-10 years. The movies that will be part of Phase III for absolute certain are: Ant-Man, Captain America 3, Thor 3, The Avengers 3 and Dr. Strange.

Also hearing some inner working conversations about Dr. Strange and how much Kevin Feige wanted Dr. Strange for Phase 2 at one point.

"Feige has pretty much confirmed Dr. Strange for some time now. They really wanted it to be a part of Phase 2 at one point, but like Ant-Man that just didn’t happen. That’s probably the one that Feige is personally rooting for the most and as a result it is the solo film that is the highest priority other than the sequels."

As our conversation continued, we couldn’t help but get into some of the other rumors out there – like a INHUMANS movie or that ever elusive BLACK PANTHER movie.

"There has been talk about Black Panther and lots of talk about The Inhumans, they’re in the pipeline but are pretty much in the same boat that Dr. Strange and Ant-Man were in two years ago, where they want them to happen, and they will most likely both happen, but it’s just a question of how soon. However, those five films (Ant-Man, Cap 3, Thor 3, Dr. Strange & Avengers 3) are sure things and I can guarantee you they will all be announced at Comic Con if not sooner."

“We had been on the island for a few days by that point and had so much fun together. That day we went to a smaller island where the light was beautiful, and took turns in the middle,” Lily said.

“We really, honestly liked each other,” Chrissy said about working together. “Of course you are going to hear that from anybody who does a group shot, but this time it’s true. The connection was natural and the mood was fun.”

Sebastian Stan shares his thoughts on "The Winter Soldier"'s angst, brutality and luxurious hair

Sebastian Stan, who plays the titular Winter Soldier in the upcoming sequel to "Captain America," spoke to io9 today...

io9: So Bucky is like Captain America. They're both from another time, they're both lost in this new world. How does Bucky deal with that in this new movie?

Sebastian Stan: He doesn't deal with it. [Laughs]. He just doesn't deal with it.

I'm curious about the evolution of the hair.

Oh yes! Please ask me, because I'm sure people have opinions.

We've been drawing pictures of long hair on you for quite some time on io9. We didn't know how it would look! How did you guys come to this conclusion of this hairstyle? Was it totally out of your hands?

You know what the funny thing is, we had the artist -- Ed Brubaker -- on set. I remember I was talking to him and I asked "why the long hair?" And he said, "the thing is we have long hair when you're drawing comic books, [because it] things look more epic." This was so funny to me because he was basically also explaining why superheroes have capes. The reason they have capes is because you can tell in a comic book that they're flying. Or that there's wind. So I said, "alright, so you're telling me he has long hair because you wanted it for stylistic purposes." It makes sense!

In the storyline basically Bucky sort of snapped a little bit. He went on a mission and he went missing for about a month, or so, in New York and they [the Russians] couldn't find him. So he kind of walked around like a homeless person for a while. He was trying to figure out what he was doing and where he was. And during that process there was no one there giving him a haircut.

But in terms of the movie, I don't care. You can't approach something with "oh my god, how am I going to look with long hair," you just do. I'm playing this part, this guy's got long hair, I gotta have long hair. What are you gonna do. ?

Well I like it. I think it works. So what is modern-day Bucky (or Winter Soldier's) fighting-style? He was trained to fight in World War II and then picked up by the Russians. Is there a combination of Russian kickboxing or something?

It's actually kind of scrappy. The idea was this is the kind of guy who can kill you with a straw. He's precise, he's very specific with what he does. But the idea is that it's messy. He'll use knives… knives were always a big part of the character. There is a lot of knife work in the movie for sure. And overall brutality. He'll kill you with whatever is closest.

Bucky was very cool in the first movie, and he had personality and a bit of pep. How do you play damaged and crazed while maintaining the bits of Bucky we remember from the first film? Or do you just drop all of that?

No, no, you can't [drop that]. In the first movie, without knowing they were going to shoot this movie, honestly, I thought about this happening. I wanted to show different sides of him where you could potentially look back and see sides of him. "I can see that person coming up this way, if he's being guided." Yes, it was technically a different person, but it's still the same guy. There's got to be something about him you recognize.

Looking even farther into the future, do you think Bucky could eventually take over for Captain America like he does in the comics?

I don't know. It's another storyline that's great, but there are many story lines. I unfortunately have no clue.

Robin Hood TV revamp on BBC America

'Dracula' creator Cole Haddon is working on a Robin Hood TV revamp for BBC America.'Nottingham' will reinvent the Hood mythology, with Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham revealed as the same person, says Deadline.

When his wife is killed by King John's Men, the Sheriff takes on the alias of Robin to secretly wage war on the Crown.

Haddon will script the project, while the companies behind The Blacklist - Sony Pictures TV and Davis Entertainment - will produce.

Source 1

A little bit more about the project:

Described as a soapy class drama, Nottingham centers on the
Sheriff of Nottingham whose wife is killed by King John's men. When nobody is brought to justice, the Sheriff launches a one-man war against the Crown. By day, he remains the reviled Sheriff, loyal servant of the King, but by night he puts on a hood and, using the intelligence he gains from his office, attacks the King where it hurts the most - his coffers. As Robin Hood, he systematically raids the King's men, his noble loyalists and political allies, giving the spoils to the starving peasantry and starting a rebellion that will change England forever.

It's an interesting premise, and I'm a sucker for a good period drama. That being said, my favorite part of the Robin Hood story is the battle between the do-gooder and the villainous sheriff. Nottingham could be a difficult sell to those that are used to having their mythological characters delineated into 'good' and 'bad.'

Stevie Nicks talks about her favorite GOT characters + all season 3 deleted scenes now online

Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks: “I would love to write some music for Game of Thrones"

What’s the appeal of this character-rich drama of warring kingdoms and dastardly plotting?

“The guy who wrote these stories [author George RR Martin] is my age now, and I think: how in the world does somebody come up with these 15 or so characters and then everything that’s wrapped around each one of the 15 characters? It blows my mind that he’s able to create this vast, interlinked world. As a songwriter I write little movies. But I can’t imagine sitting down and writing even one small book, a novel. We each have our thing that we’re really good at.”

You appeared on an episode of Glee dedicated to Fleetwood Mac. Could you do something similar with Game of Thrones?

“I would love to write some music for the show. I’ve written a bunch of poetry about it — one for each of the characters. On Jon Snow… on Arya… on Cersei… on Cersei and Jaime, the blonde on blonde… on Khaleesi… I’m always looking for that kind of inspiration, and I’m very inspired by it — as I was very inspired by Twilight.”

Who are your favourite characters?

“Khaleesi [Emilia Clarke] is my new favourite heroine. And Cersei [Lena Headey] is fantastic. She’s just mean as shit. And you know who else is mean? Not Joffrey [Jack Gleeson] — he’s beyond. He’s just sickly, deeply, sadistically evil. But no, the one that’s going to marry him, Margaery [played by Natalie Dormer]. She is just such a great evil person. And she thinks she is going to be able to handle him. And then you have Brienne of Tarth [Gwendoline Christie] — I love her.”

Video Gaming's Latest Breakthrough Moment

$
0
0

There are topics that mainstream video games rarely tackle, but lately, the list is getting shorter. It got shorter yet again last week. It happened in a PS3 game, or rather, in an expansion to a PS3 game from last year. It's something I can't not talk about. Spoilers for The Last of Us: Left Behind follow.

If you haven't played Left Behind, the add-on to last year's critically acclaimed The Last Of Us and plan to do so, bookmark this and go do that. If you're unafraid of some big spoilers, both for the DLC and the main game, read on.

The defining moment of The Last of Us: Left Behind (which I really liked) wasn't a death or a sacrifice, at least not for me—it was a kiss. Just a kiss, between two teenagers who happen to be surviving in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and who also happen to be young women.

Left Behind focuses on Ellie, the foulmouthed, teenaged co-star of The Last of Us, and her friendship with another girl named Riley. Ellie and Riley were friends back in the Boston quarantine zone, before Ellie was bitten, before she was revealed to be immune to the zombie plague, and before she set off with Joel on a journey across the country.

As it turns out, Ellie and Riley were more than just friends—they were romantically involved. Near the end of Left Behind, as they dance atop a counter in a department store, Ellie finally asks Riley to stay with her, to give up her dream of joining the Firefly resistance and just... stay. Riley agrees, and so Ellie does the most natural thing in the world: She kisses her.

"Sorry," says Ellie, smiling.

"For what?" asks Riley, smiling back.

This is a really big deal. Not just because it was a sweet moment for a beloved character—though it totally was that. It was a big deal because video games have never suffered from an overabundance of queer characters (let alone two young women in a queer, mixed-race coupling), and the fact that one of the most popular characters in one of the biggest games of the last several years just "came out" on Valentine's Day should be treated like the event that it is. Ellie totally likes girls, you guys! How cool is that?

[Side note: That Left Behind was released on the same day as actor Ellen Page's moving, heartfelt coming out at THRIVE seems almost too poetic, and a perfect continuation of an at-times contentious story. Last June, Page called out The Last of Us and Ellie for ripping off her likeness, and more than half a year later, both the character and the woman celebrated the same Valentine's Day by coming out. Next, maybe Ellie will announce that she's starring in a post-apocalyptic stage production of X-Men: Days of Future Past.]

Last week, shortly after finishing Left Behind, I hopped on the phone with writer and creative director Neil Druckmann to talk about the process behind the DLC's creation, the writing decisions he made, and what it was like to write a new chapter for everyone's favorite foul-mouthed teenager.

But first things first: When did he decide that the story was going to go this way?

"It's hard to say when the thought first popped into our head," Druckmann told me. "I was doing interviews with Faith [Erin Hicks, co-author of the prequel comic American Dreams, in which Riley and Ellie first meet] when we first announced the comic book and we both made the mistake where we were talking about Ellie and Riley and we said 'Oh, Ellie is really attracted to Riley.' I don't think we meant it romantically at the time when we were saying it, but then the thought kind of stuck in my head as we were writing that comic book 'Oh, what if they are romantically attracted to each other?'"

Druckmann told me that the idea of Ellie's preference for guys or girls never really came up while they were making The Last of Us, in part because aside from some oblique references made by Joel and Tess, there weren't really any romantic relationships in the game. "When we started working on Left Behind, it felt like the story wanted to go somewhere else," he said. "It wanted to go somewhere deeper, and that's where again, those early ideas I was talking about with the comic book came back up. What if they are romantically involved? What if the question of leaving or going is about more than just wanting to keep your friend around, it's wanting to keep the person you really love around?"

Not everyone at Naughty Dog agreed that it was a good idea to define Ellie one way or the other."Some of the questions at the studio," Druckmann [writer and creative director] said, "and some of the arguments were like, in defining her one way or another, are we taking away something from players? It wasn't defined, so people could imagine her being straight, or gay, or whatever. And my argument was, 'Well, those are the stories that are worth telling, that define these characters more and show who they are.' But I know some people will be upset. And they would've been upset in either direction. Someone would get upset by it. So you kind of have to shrug your shoulders and say, well, this is the story that we felt was worth telling and hopefully you're along for the ride."

Druckmann told me that in earlier drafts of the story, the romance was much more obvious. "The first pass was much more overt that there was a romantic relationship," he said. "Some of the feedback I got from Ricky [Cambier], who is one of our designers and Bruce [Straley], our game director, that it was too overt. That we can hint at more of this stuff, it didn't need to be so on the nose. Like when they were riding the carousel, Riley like, took some of Ellie's hair and put it behind her ear. They were like, 'Dude, this is so clichéd, you don't need this stuff, it actually works pretty well without all that stuff.'"

Ellie and Riley aren't the first gay characters to be featured in the world of The Last of Us—Naughty Dog was already recognized by GLAAD for the character Bill, a survivor Joel and Ellie encounter outside of Boston who, over the course of the story, is revealed to be suffering over the loss of his lover, a man named Frank. One of the game's more memorable moments comes after Joel and Ellie leave Bill behind and Ellie reveals that she's stolen one of Bill's porno mags, loudly pondering gay porn (and making Joel as uncomfortable as possible) before tossing the magazine out the window.

I asked Druckmann about the GLADD recognition. "It's super flattering," he said. "You try to do this work, and different kinds of people can connect to it. At the same time, it's a little weird that, you know, that we still make such a big deal out of it? Because for us, it's not a big deal. These just happen to be the characters we had at our disposal, and in making the story it felt like the best choice for drama's sake, for no other reason than drama. So yeah, it's flattering but at the same time, hopefully one day you don't have to give out an award or a list to say, 'Best Gay Character,''Best Whatever Character,' you can just have good characters."

It seems likely that there will inevitably be those who criticize Left Behind for tokenism, or of copying last year's Gone Home, which featured a similar story of two teenage girls in love. Druckmann told me that he and his team had already sketched out Left Behind before he played Gone Home, but that he did take The Fullbright Company's game into consideration as they worked. "We started working on the DLC pretty soon after we finished The Last of Us," he said. "And in fact the outline for the story, we were already working on it while we were finishing The Last of Us. And then we finished the [main] game and I played Gone Home and I loved it, and I met [Gone Home writer] Steve Gaynor at PAX and the first thing I told him when we had lunch was, 'Dude, when our DLC comes out, people are going to accuse us that we ripped you off or something, or that we're trying to ride your coattails, so just… be prepared for that.'

"Up until the last moment," Druckmann said, "we were debating whether to leave [the kiss] in or take it out and just leave it up to players' minds. And playing Gone Home, I was like, maybe it'd be better to take it out so people don't accuse us of saying 'Here's another lesbian story' or whatever. Ultimately, you have to forget about all these things and say, what was your original intention with the story? Is this the best choice for this story, ignoring all other things? And if the answer is yes, and it was yes in this case, then you just leave it in."

"If you had any doubts, [the kiss] takes the doubt away," he said. "Or at least, it should. I'm sure that some people will still have doubts. I know that there'll be some of that cynical criticism, people who'll say, 'Oh, you just stuck that in there to create more waves.' But ultimately, we just wanted to tell a different kind of story, we wanted to tell a romantic story. We had it at our disposal and it didn't matter to us that it happened to be two girls. It wasn't any more or less than that."

It may relatively cut-and-dried for Druckmann, but Riley and Ellie's romance will mean a whole lot to some players, particularly those of us who are starving for more diverse, nuanced characters in the games we play. Bravo, Naughty Dog, for telling the sort of story that mainstream video games are still only beginning to attempt to tell, and in so doing making the world of games a more interesting, relatable place. And good show, Sony, for staying out of their way and letting them do it.

I've said in the past that The Last of Us ended so well that it doesn't need a sequel, but Left Behind has (perhaps predictably) got me wanting more in spite of myself. If in the inevitable sequel, they decide to have Ellie meet a cool girl up in Wyoming? That'd be just fine by me.

She deserves a little happiness, after all.

MTV To Air ‘Teen Mom’ Follow-Up Specials ‘Being Amber,’ ‘Being Catelynn,’ ‘Being Farrah’

A lot can change in a person’s life from the time they’re a teenager to a twentysomething, and we’ve seen pronounced proof of this by following the stories of MTV’s teen moms. But while we’re very much up to date on what’s going on with Leah Calvert, Jenelle Evans, Kailyn Lowry-Marroquin and Chelsea Houska of “Teen Mom 2,” the fifth season of which is currently running on the channel, it’s been a year-and-a-half since the series finale of the original “Teen Mom” aired, and the little we hear is usually based on gossip.

Beginning at 8/7c on Sunday, February 23, MTV will premiere a trio of one-hour documentary specials that give viewers a chance to catch up with Amber Portwood, Catelynn Lowell and Farrah Abraham. “Being Amber,” “Being Catelynn” and “Being Farrah” will offer a glimpse into all three young ladies’ worlds as they struggle with new responsibilities: Amber is just out of jail and trying to reconnect with her daughter, Leah, while staying with her grandparents in Indiana; Catelynn is coping with a cancelled engagement to longtime boyfriend Tyler; and Farrah, who’s now 22 and living thousands of miles away from her mother, is dealing with her controversial choice to make an adult entertainment film. In a nutshell, things are different, but still…complicated.

“Being Farrah” airs at 8/7c on Sunday, February 23, followed by “Being Catelynn” at 9/8c and “Being Amber” at 10/9c. Stay tuned to the blog for more info, including a sneak peek.

BEYONCE and her team carried out an all night rehearsal under a cloak of secrecy at the SSE Hydro on Monday night.

The singing star wanted everything to be perfect for her tour and insisted on an seven hour long all nighter with her crew to practise song and dance routines and wardrobe changes before the big dates at the Scots venue for the UK leg of her Mrs Carter tour on Thursday and Friday this week.

After the Queen B's roadies worked tirelessly in preparing the venue for her over the weekend and through Monday afternoon, Beyonce  and her entourage arrived at the venue in silver people carriers and executive buses shortly after ten pm last night and rehearsed until 5am on Tuesday morning.

A private jet was seen parked on the runway at Prestwick Airport and there were rumoured sightings of the star at the luxurious Mar Hall hotel.

Beyonce stayed there last time when she played T In The Park in Balado.

A tour insider revealed that teams of people were working tirelessly to get everything in order for the tour.

He said: "Beyonce wanted  to make sure everything  was perfect for the start of this leg of the tour  so she arrived in plenty of time over the weekend to run over her numbers and routines."

Beyonce was keen to keep her arrival at The Glasgow Hydro quiet last night and her people carrier was driven straight inside the venue on arrival at 10:20pm.

Her large security team even tried to shine torches at a photographer to stop any possible photographs being taken of the star.

It is thought that Beyonce may get some more rehearsal time in today and intends to jet from Glasgow to London to attend the Brits on Wednesday night before returning on Thursday in time for her first night of her UK and European tour.
