Broadway Legend Carol Channing passes away at 97

Carol Channing passed away early this morning at her home in Rancho Mirage, CA. Her publicist released the following statement:

"It is with extreme heartache, that I have to announce the passing of an original Industry Pioneer, Legend and Icon - Miss Carol Channing. I admired her before I met her, and have loved her since the day she stepped ... or fell rather ... into my life. It is so very hard to see the final curtain lower on a woman who has been a daily part of my life for more than a third of it. We supported each other, cried with each other, argued with each other, but always ended up laughing with each other. Saying good-bye is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, but I know that when I feel those uncontrollable urges to laugh at everything and/or nothing at all, it will be because she is with me, tickling my funny bone."

Her most well known performance was in "Hello, Dolly!", which she performed over 5000 times without missing a single performance. She won a Tony for the role of Dolly in 1964. She's also performed in the Broadway shows "So Proudly We Hail," "Let's Face It," "Lend An Ear," "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," "Show Girl," "Pygmalion," "The Millionairess," "The Vamp," "Four On A Garden," and "Wonderful Town." She won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the film "Thoroughly Modern Millie". Her voice was one of the most reconizable and imitated in the world.

She's survived by her son, Channing Lowe.

ONTD ORIGINAL: Shows Disney Should Totally Put On Disney+ This Year

It’s 2019, and Disney+ is finally coming to take our money and give it to the Mouse Empire, unless you’re like some people and (allegedly) live a pirate’s life.
While shows such as The Mandalorian, a Monsters Inc. TV show, and various Marvel shows for the side players are in development, what about their older, iconic shows?
Here are some shows The Mouse House would have to have for me to cough up some green. Not counting currently airing shows like Ducktales, Big City Greens, Star vs. The Forces of Evil, or Milo Murphy's Law.

A show that was, for all intents and purposes, far too ahead of it’s time, Fillmore! was a cop-crime drama. Extortion, bum raps, kidnapping, threats, hostage holding, death of the author - Oh yeah, it was also animated and took place in an extremely extensive middle school following a league of safety patrollers. The main characters of Fillmore and Third are no-nonsense law abiding citizens, and quite possibly, the last good cops.
The parody style placed on thick line art and the serious tone on middle school problems gives a hilarious air of absurdity that works spectacularly well. & Orlando Brown could probably use some of those residuals.
Some Episodes: The Shreds Fell Like Snowflakes, A Cold Day at X

If you’re asking yourself what the hell Right Now Kapow is, you’re not alone. It’s got that ugly The Problem Solverz style but without being as busy and irritating as that show.
It was actually pretty funny, but lasted only a season.

Some Episodes: Honestly, I don't remember. It was an animated sketch show in the vein of SNL for children.

Kim Possible, the high school freelance hero/vigilante. Popular, competent honor student fighting a variety of middle aged criminals with her sidekick/best friend Ron. And everyone knew she did this shit, too, that's what made this so refreshing! It didn’t necessarily get “deep”, but it was always an action-packed blast.
In “honor” of her live action DCOM hitting small screens next month after last being seen nearly 12 (!!!) years ago, Kim Possible and her 4 seasons deserve to be seen as intended (animated, cool, snappy), and since they’re not on Youtube in any decent audio quality, this would be the perfect location for The Girl Who Can Do Anything.
And it would introduce a new generation of kids to Christina Millian!

Leave it to the black cartoons to “keep it real” with topics like Islamophobia, selling out, Kwanzaa, and obnoxious people in wheelchairs played by Shia LeBeouf, The Proud Family. It’s still the only Disney animated show to be exclusively produced by Disney Television’s animation branch (It was produced by Jambalaya Studios by one Bruce Wayne [I know] Smith, who was also a supervising animator on many hand drawn Disney films!).
It also features notable black actors and singers in guest roles like Gabrielle Union, Solange, Al Roker,  Mariah Carey
Some Episodes: Hip-Hop Helicopter, Romeo Must Wed (with Dante Basco, of course!)

From “Paul and Joe” comes another series that holds up remarkably well, Recess. It’s like Fillmore! but with the spirit, trials, and tribulations of childhood as opposed to adolescence that parodied a wider variety of genres. The bright art and imagination of children touching upon things like fads and video games makes this still a relatively timeless show.
P & J’s followup, Lloyd in Space could be on the service too. I mean, I’m not in charge, if Iger wants to put it on there, go ahead. It just wasn’t as good as Recess.

Oh, Motorcity. Not nearly as old as many shows on this list, and chronically shortlived, even shorter than Fillmore!
Why? Not because it took place in the futuristic apocalyptic underground wasteland of Detroit, but because Disney XD would air the new episodes, yes the NEW ones, at 12 AM. On Monday.

Why.
The series ran for technically less than a year, cancelled before it even concluded (Though, thankfully, we got all of the episodes aired). While Titmouse Studios is trying to get the rights back to continue it with a company who cares, maybe Disney+ is just what they needed to jump-start a second season.

Some Episodes: The Duke of Detroit Presents, Battle for Motorcity

I really could have added so many more - The Buzz on Maggie, Fish Hooks, Phineas and Ferb, The Replacements, Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja, Teamo Supremo, Wander Over Yonder, The 7D....but I'll leave it to ya'll to bemoan "How could you miss [show that came out in the 90s when I was like 3], OP?!"

Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’ Finds Its Maria, Anita, Bernardo & Chino

Fresh face Rachel Zegler, 17, will make her film debut as Maria opposite Ansel Elgort (Tony).
Broadway veteran Ariana DeBoseas will play Anita, the role made famous on film by Moreno.
Broadway veterans David Alvarez will play Bernardo, Maria’s brother and the leader of the Sharks.
Theater performer Josh Andrés Rivera has been cast as Chino.

Rita Moreno will play Valentina, a reconceived and expanded version of the character of Doc, the owner of the corner store in which Tony works. 

West Side Story will be produced and directed by Spielberg
From a script by Oscar-nominated screenwriter and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner.
Filming is slated to start in the summer.

Norwegian Authorities Investigating TIDAL for Fraudulent Streams

"Every great movement started with a group of people being able to get together and really just make a scam stand. This collaboration feels so ego-less." - Beyonce at Tidal's launch press conference.

The Norwegian economic and environmental crimes unit known as ØOKOKRIM has confirmed that it is investigating multiple allegations that some streaming numbers on the ego-less Tidal had been manipulated.

It was reported last year that the service has been allegedly manipulating its streaming data to grossly inflate the number of times that Kanye West's 'The Life of Pablo' and Beyoncé's 'Lemonade' albums were played.

EnTIDALd denies the claims saying the allegations are "a smear campaign" made up of "lies and falsehoods," which it will fight vigorously.

On Monday night’s episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Kim Kardashian West revealed that her fourth child with husband Kanye West is a boy and also revealed that the baby is due “sometime soon” via surrogate. The baby will be born from the same surrogate as their third child, Chicago.

A surprised Kourtney says she knew it was a boy but was surprised how her sister Kim just blurted it out during their interview. She replies, “it’s out there.”

“I got drunk at our Christmas Eve party and told some people. I can’t remember who I told because I never get drunk,” Kardashian West added.

The Kardashian sisters also talk about: Kim’s single Jam (Turn It Up) and beef with Taylor Swift, plastic surgery, if they still speak to Caitlyn Jenner, Kanye’s Twitterstorms, they play “Plead the Fifth” and more.

Water is wet, fast food giants continue to mistreat chickens; random celebs tweet about Veganuary

Trump's embarrassing spread of cold McDonalds and Domino's for the Clemson Tigers' White House visit is overshadowing the dismal scores both corporations received for chicken welfare in a new report published by World Animal Protection. The animal rights charity graded several fast food giants on the overall welfare of the chickens that end up in their meals on the basis of three criteria: policies, targets, and reporting.

The fast food giants covered in the report include Starbucks, which has only "made robust commitments to improve chicken welfare in the US, but not elsewhere", McDonalds, whose targets--such as avoiding the use of broiler cages worldwide--do not follow best practices for chicken welfare, and Nando's, which generally publishes very little information about its chicken welfare practices and goals and has only a handful of targets specific to individual countries. From poor to failing, here's how the bottom end of the fast food ranking panned out:

Poor: Burger King, Starbucks, and Subway
Very Poor: McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Nando's
Failing: Domino's, PLC and Domino's, Inc.

  • U.S Senator Cory Booker and actress Rosario Dawson have been dating for around a month.

  • The pair were spotted catching a movie and at a performance of Dear Evan Hansen. PageSix is also reporting that they were seen holding hands while watching Apologia last month.

  • Neither party has commented on their relationship.

  • On a side note, people have been speculating Cory might be in the running for the 2020 presidental election.

The Simpsons are no strangers in going meta and breaking the fourth wall, and on Sunday’s episode titled “The Girl On The Bus,” they did just that when Homer texts his daughter Lisa saying that he can’t find his phone. Lisa then replies to him pointing out that he’s texting from it. An embarrassed Homer then replies with that gif of himself backing into the bushes.

This gif and meme originates from the fifth season episode “Homer Loves Flanders,” where Homer becomes friends with his neighbor Ned Flanders after they spend time together. That episode aired all the way back in 1994.

The Simpsons will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year in December.
