videos + summaries:
on paparazzi and being photographed:
-
she doesn't call the paps, would pay to make them go away - their farm has been an escape for her
-
went through a dark period of her life where she wouldn't leave her apartment on her days off because she didn't want to get photographed
- once they got the farm, felt like she took back ownership of her life
- helped her enjoy the city again and not have so much resentment for the photographers and that part of her life
on her weight and people's comments
- people say she was pressured by the industry and lost weight
- she has a disease that changes your body weight
-
when she first started modelling her body shape was different due to her disease + being a junior volley ball player and having a lot of muscle-
once she started losing weight got a lot of resistance from people saying she was getting too skinny - the negativity was hard for her to deal with
- she knows she's skinny, she looks in the mirror and she tries to eat burgers and do squats but can't gain weight apparently
on sexual harassment in the industry
- there was a period of time where 'do whatever it takes' was the motto and
you were told to do whatever the photographer says- important to find a manager you know will back you and fight for you
-
she's been on sets without her manager there and if she's felt uncomfortable she's hid in the bathroom or under a table to call or text her manager "this is about to happen, i'm uncomfortable, please help". - she had photoshoots early in her career where she was young and on set with photographers she felt intimidated by
- although she wasn't naked there were styling choices that shouldn't have happened
- learned to trust her intuition
some quotes:
"After a period of time where I would stay inside for three days because I had three days off and I didn't want to get photographed, like I wouldn't leave the house... that was a dark period for me. I think once we got the farm I kinda took back ownership of that part of my life, and I decided that when I want them to see me they can see me. And when I don't, I'm allowed to have my time too."
“[Yolanda] chose to keep me in high school until I was 18. She wouldn't let me sign. Spring break, my senior year, I came to New York for the first time just to see agencies and I always fought that, but when I look back on it, I would never change it for a second. (...) Even though I did start at 18, I still feel like I was too young. There are times when I will reflect, and it’s not that someone put me in a bad situation, but I felt that I should have stood up for myself better."
"When I turn to my manager and I say I'm uncomfortable with this shirt, I know he's someone that isn't intimidated by the producer, the photographer, anyone on that set."sources:
