Lethal Weapon's Clayne Crawford releases a statement

After yesterday's reports over Clayne Crawford behaviour on the set of Lethal Weapon, he releases a statement apologising t the cast and crew and explaining what happened. According to him, the two incidentes were about working conditions.

As you can imagine, yesterday’s headlines were incredibly distressing.

It is true that I have been reprimanded twice during the past two seasons of ‘Lethal Weapon.’ The first reprimand was because I reacted with anger over working conditions that did not feel safe or conducive to good work under the leadership of a guest director and assistant director, who, in turn, were angry at my response. I met with human resources, I apologized for my part of the conflict, and I completed studio appointed therapy in October. I even shared a sizeable portion of my paycheck with one of the parties involved, per the instruction of the studio.

The second reprimand happened just a few weeks ago during the episode I was directing. An actor on set felt unsafe because a piece of shrapnel from an effect hit him. It was an unfortunate event that happened in spite of all precautions and procedures being followed. I take responsibility for the incident, because I was in charge of the set. I absolutely love, respect, and care for my crew and cast and would never intentionally jeopardize so many jobs. Moreover, I love the process of filmmaking and television. I appreciate and respect the work of everyone involved. It takes a village, and I am incredibly sorry if my passion for doing good work has ever made anyone feel less than comfortable on set or feel less than celebrated for their efforts. Furthermore, I apologize to all the crew and cast for any negative attention ‘Lethal Weapon’ is receiving because of these incidents.

I take great pride in treating everyone in life with dignity and kindness. I am very grateful for my job, and I work extremely hard at it. I have a responsibility to do good work for my coworkers, my family, and my home state, and most especially for the fans. I hope they will stick with me and stick with the show.

8. Juliette Binoche as Camille Claudel in Camille Claudel 1915 (2014)

Binoche plays the sculptor 2 years into her 30-year stint in an asylum, where she was deprived of materials to make art. The film is "sombre and deeply affecting." (trailer)

ONTD Original: (4) Artists Sabotaged by Major Labels

$
0
0

Sometimes a promising talent fails to live up to the larger-than-life expectations of label executives, critics, and listening audiences. Astronomical amounts of money are invested - on elevating looks, securing top-shelf productions, etc. - to little or no return. One need look no further than my last post for prime examples of artists who somehow, between grinding on the fringe of stardom and securing the bag, lost something in translation.

But what about those artists who, in moving from the minors to a major, lose none of their X factor, their focus? Artists who build enviable fanbases, display abundances of talent, and offer their labels hit records wrapped in ribbon, only to be left on the backburner or time and time again undermined? The artists below fit such a bill, and were all but derailed before their belonging to a major label allowed them to pay off theirs.

Sky Ferreira

The precocious Ferreira has taken the outcome of her creative pursuits into her own hands seemingly from the start. At 14 years old, she wrote to production titans Bloodshy & Avant seeking a recording contract - and she got it. In 2009, she signed with Capitol and her first single, "17" arrived the following year.

Unfortunately, it would be all downhill from here. The January 2011 release date for Ferreira's debut album (originally to be titled 'Cry Baby') came and went, and the outspoken teenager clashed with executives hellbent on molding her "into [a] perfect little pop robot." March of the same year yielded a polarizing electropop EP that has since been scrubbed from streaming services, and Ferreira's LP would see many title changes and sonic permutations before finally dropping in October 2013 as the critically acclaimed, grunge-influenced 'Night Time, My Time' (#45).

JoJo

By the time Sky Ferreira began battling label execs, Joanna "JoJo" Levesque was a seasoned veteran for the cause. Having signed with Blackground Records and Da Family at the age of 12, JoJo stormed the charts the following year when she debuted with the Soulshock & Karlin-produced "Leave (Get Out)." She released two top-five debuting albums before she was legal, and it was soon after that her legal troubles began.

JoJo began teasing a third album in the spring of 2008, and the following summer saw her stating that the project's unveiling was contingent upon her label signing a distribution deal for its release. Months passed, and nearly two dozen songs cut for the album leaked via YouTube, a fiasco culminating in JoJo suing her label for $500,000 and demanding to be released from her contract. The latter wish would be fulfilled, but the singer's label woes would continue for several more years. In 2016, she finally dropped 'Mad Love.' (#6) under Atlantic, breathing a long delayed sigh of relief.

Jon McLaughlin

This cornfed heartthrob was also discovered via MySpace and signed by Island Records in 2006, after an EP he recorded the previous year caught the attention of executives. His first album under the label, 'Indiana,' was released the following year to positive response, and 2008 would see him performing "So Close" from Walt Disney Pictures''Enchanted' at the Academy Awards.

Despite receiving what seemed to be ever-increasing exposure, McLaughlin's passion for honest songwriting would lead to contention with Island - years later, he would tell The Harvard Crimson that the recording of his second album under the label, 2008's 'OK Now,' was a half-hearted affair fraught with compromise. It would debut at #49 and yield no hits, and McLaughlin parted ways with Island soon after. He has since released four albums via independent labels - the most recent, 'Like Us,' dropped in 2015 - and his compositions have been recorded by the likes of Demi Lovato and Beyoncé.

A Perfect Circle frontman, Maynard Keenan, says song was inspired by bad Yelp reviews

Maynard_James_Keenan.jpg

Last week, the band released new material 14 years since the last album. One track, "Disillusioned", is about Maynard's winery in AZ that got some bad Yelp reviews.

“That thing is fucking poison! Sites like Yelp have fostered this generation of novice experts who have the power to open their mouths but haven’t actually put the work into knowing what they’re talking about," the singer fumed.

"I’ve had bad Yelp reviews of my tasting room, but it had nothing to do with the wine. The reviews were bad merely because I wasn’t there! I can only say to those people: shut the fuck up!”

While the singer addressed the "novice" of customers, he did not address that most reviews of his winery are good, one review standing out about bad service and shitty people.

Review embargo for Avengers: Infinity War lifted an hour ago. The current score at Rotten Tomatoes stands at a solid 90%. The major gripe by some of the negative reviews seems to be the film is too bloated and that it doesn't have a definite ending (as if they didn't know that going in that it's a two-parter).
