ONTD Original: [7 More] Horror Films Based on True Stories

Let's get creepy again, ONTD! Killers, cult maniacs, cryptids, spectres, and my personal favorite - ALIENS.
The Hills Have EyesOn the way to California, a family has the misfortune to have their car break down in an area closed to the public, and inhabited by violent savages ready to attack.
Director Wes Craven gave an interview discussing the true story behind the 1977 film, which involved the Sawney Bean family in Scotland:
"[T]here was an area that had road running through it from Scotland, and people thought it was haunted because people kept disappearing from that road. The story came out when a couple was attacked by these wild looking people, and one got away. He knew someone in the court, and they sent out an expedition which resulted in finding a cave along the English Channel. A dog actually found it. A whole gaggle of these people. Naked, wild and feral. And the [authorities] did the most excruciating things to them. I responded to the irony of it, of people who should be nice and civilized doing horrible things. And horrible people having a nice side to them, too."
Don't believe it's true? You're probably right; check out this article from BBC, detailing the Bean legend (supposedly, the cave-dwelling Bean family killed and ate 1,000 people).
BorderlandOn a trip to a Mexican border town, three college friends stumble upon a human-sacrifice cult.
Loosely based on Adolfo de Jesús Constanzo, a serial killer cult leader drug lord. His cult was called Los Narcosatánicos. Costanzo claimed he had magical powers, and used them to help drug dealers, corrupt police, and organized crime bosses. By the time he was making a name for himself, he was using human bones in his spell casting.
But raiding graveyards wasn't enough for him, and he moved onto ritual murder. Sadly more than 20 people lost their lives as human sacrifices, including Mark Kilroy, an American pre-med student, who was kidnapped outside a bar during his spring break.
The Beast of Bray RoadBased on actual accounts of werewolf sightings in Walworth County, Wisconsin, the film follows a local sheriff who is finally forced to accept that a string of horrifying deaths is linked to a predator which possesses DNA of both man and wolf.
Many people witnessed "the beast of bray road" in the 1980s and early 1990s, describing the creature as "bear-like," "hairy biped resembling Bigfoot," and an extremely tall wolf walking on its hind legs. Despite the fact that no one saw the creature transform from a human into a wolf, people still like to refer to this cryptid as a "werewolf."
Interestingly, a journalist named Linda Godfrey was sent out to the area to investigate the sightings. While initially skeptical, by the end of her investigation she believed the creature to be true. Her articles were published as a book called The Beast of Bray Road: Trailing Wisconsin's Werewolf.
The Girl Next DoorBased on the Jack Ketchum novel of the same name, The Girl Next Door follows the unspeakable torture and abuses committed on a teenage girl in the care of her aunt...and the boys who witness and fail to report the crime.
The true story behind the graphic, disturbing film is the torture and murder of Sylvia Likens, who was only 16 years old. Sylvia's parents were carnival workers; they left her and four siblings in the care of Gertrude Baniszewski. For three months, Baniszewski, Baniszewski's children (one as young as 13), and their neighbors tortured and abused Sylvia.
Baniszewski was eventually convicted of first-degree murder. She was sentenced to life imprisonment - but was granted parole and released from prison on December 4, 1985.
Open WaterBased on the true story of two scuba divers accidentally stranded in shark infested waters after their tour boat has left.
Tom and Eileen Lonergan were on a scuba diving trip in the Great Barrier Reef when their diving group failed to take a proper headcount - and left the couple behind. The Lonergans were not discovered missing for two days. Their scuba gear turned up somewhere miles away from where they went lost, but their bodies were never found.
Disturbingly, during search and rescue, their diving slate was discovered, reading: "Monday Jan 26; 1998 08am. To anyone who can help us: We have been abandoned on A[gin]court Reef by MV Outer Edge 25 Jan 98 3pm. Please help to rescue us before we die. Help!!!"
The skipper of the boat was charged with unlawful killing, but was found not guilty.
The Enfield HauntingIn August 1977, a series of bizarre and terrifying events begin to take place in a seemingly ordinary house in Enfield, North London.
The Enfield Poltergeist lived at 284, Green Street, in Brimsdown, Enfield, England from 1977 to 1979. The standard ghost activity was recorded: furniture moving, strange noises and voices, and even children levitating. Some paranormal investigators believed the haunting to be genuine, while many others called it a hoax. Two of the children at the home, Margaret and Janet, did admit to performing some pranks, but claimed only "2%" of it was faked.
The Conjuring 2 is also (loosely) based on the case.
Fire in the SkyAn Arizona logger mysteriously disappears for five days in an alleged encounter with a flying saucer in 1975.
Fire in the Sky is the true and terrifying story of Travis Walton who was abducted by aliens in 1975. Walton was a logger in the Arizona forest. One night, while riding in a truck with six of his coworkers, they encountered a UFO about 100 feet away. Walton got out of the truck and approached the craft. A beam of light struck him, knocking him out. Astonishingly, his coworkers drove away!
Walton was missing for five days. During this time, Walton remembers being in a hospital-like room, and was subjected to testing by what he described as "short, bald creatures." He doesn't remember anything else until he found himself back outside. He saw the UFO flying away from him.
All of his coworkers took a polygraph, attesting to what they witnessed - and all of them passed, except one which was inconclusive. IMO, it makes no sense why anyone would lie about this.

- Actress Busy Phillips went to the hospital when she couldn't sleep because of sharp eye pain, only to discover she had sunburned her eyes at a photo shoot.
- The condition, photokeratitis, is also known as snow blindness, arc eye, and welder's eye. It occurs when the eye is exposed to UV rays without sufficient protection. It is akin to a sunburn in that symptoms generally don't show up until hours afterward, and it goes away in 24-72 hours. Symptoms include excess tears and pain likened to having sand in your eyes.
- She seems to have recovered, and is going to discuss it in greater detail on her podcast "We're No Doctors" with Steve Agee.

Lil Xan was recently asked in an interview about his thoughts on Tupac. He said Tupac's music was "boring" and some people were very upset by this. Some older rappers said Lil Xan was "banned from hip-hop". It turns out Tupac does have a few remaining young fans because some high schoolers who were at their local Del Taco reportedly gathered around Lil Xan and confronted him about it. The situation didn't turn physical but reportedly he ran from the Del Taco to a nearby YMCA and called the police to escort him to his car.
He didn't appreciate people making fun of this story and he made a video defending himself:"I'm not a gang-banging rapper. Am I supposed to act hard? Am I supposed to not fuck with the police because I'm a rapper? Oh wait, I have to huh? Because that's what "cool rappers" do, Right? I gotta be "cool. To say fuck the police. Because that's cool right? Yeah, there's certain cops, "fuck the police", but there's a lot of good cops."
"I'm not a gang rapper. I don't rap about gang shit. I don't rap about selling drugs and shooting guns. So miss me with that "oh he's a pussy". Like guess what? Guess what? When someone break into yo house, who the first person you're gonna call? The cops you dumb motherfuckers"
