  • Ivo van Hove (A View From the Bridge) is bringing a play adaptation of the classic film All About Eve to the West End in 2019.

  • Originally, Cate Blanchett was set to star, but it's been reported she has to drop due to scheduling issues.

  • Gillian Anderson is in talks to take over the role of Margot Channing.

  • Roundabout Theater Company is producing True West, the classic Sam Shepard play, at the American Airlines Theater beginning in December 2018.

  • Ethan Hawke and Paul Dano are set to play the estranged brothers who reunite at their mother's California home.

  • A previous Broadway production in 2000 starred Philip Seymour Hoffman and John C. Reilly, who alternated the roles of the brothers.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ben Platt combined forces for the March Hamildrop "Found/Tonight", which is a mash-up of "Story of Tonight" from Hamilton and "You Will Be Found" from Dear Evan Hansen. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the single will benefit the March for Our Lives initiative.

Love her, but I really hope Gillian is better in All About Eve than she was in A Streetcar Named Desire.

Fast-casual salad chains are a thing now and exploding

• Competition is heating up at places such as Sweetgreen, Tender Greens, Chopt, and other similar chains are expanding.

• “It’s the perfect moment,” says Aaron Allen, a restaurant industry analyst. “Fresh is the most bankable word in food service.”

• Sweetgreen is the current leader of the space and has raised close to $100 million over the past 10 years and opened 20 new locations in 2017.

• Other salad chains are spreading as well. Houston-based Salata expects to top 100 locations by the end of 2018.

• An array of investors, from hospitality giant Danny Meyer to NFL players, are lining up to get in on the greens, while celebrity chefs are signing on for menu collaborations.

The entrepreneurs fueling the current fast-casual salad explosion set out to tap into enthusiasm for the Chipotle model — let diners customize their meal, but assemble it for them while they watch — while attempting to shift the perception of salad from “diet food” to a desirable, filling (and yes, trendy) meal.

The new Syfy series Krypton launches tomorrow plus creator talk political parallels

krypton-logo-slice-978x400.htm
The new Syfy series "Krypton" is taking a different approach to what we know of the Man of Steel and his home planet of Krypton.  The show is set two centuries before Kal-El is born and follows his Grandfather Seg-El (father to Jor-El) and promises a new take on the Superman mythos.  In addition to Braniac and Adam Strange, the show will introduce us to the infighting between the houses of El, Zod and Val and the political structure in the show is set to mirror many of the current struggles we face daily. Showrunner Cameron Walsh provided some insight on the show and what to expect.

  • There will be peole of color on Krypton which hasnt really been depicted on film before.

  • Promises diversity will be important to the show both in front of and behind the camera.

  • The original John Williams Superman theme will be used sparingly on the show.

  • The show will tackle both religion and politics in its first season.

  • There will be time traveling elements in the show allowing them to play with the timeline.

  • Adam Strange makes an appearance and Braniac looks to be the big bad of Season 1.

  • This is not a superhero show.  “No one is fighting crime or slapping on a mask. No one is fighting for truth, justice and the Kandorian way. There is no freak of the week. No one sees his parents get murdered and must seek revenge. Like all great sci-fi, it’s not about aliens or robots, it’s about the people.”

The series eventually begins to click but the pacing is slow, the action is sporadic and the special effects are, well, not all that special, even allowing for the fact that they’ll probably look better in finished versions of the episodes. But the cast is appealing, especially Cuffe, who seems to have limited acting skills but exudes a magnetic, star-in-the-making presence. - San Francisco Chronicle

The onslaught of Easter eggs and nods to things yet to come can feel overwhelming, but Krypton seems a beautiful deep dive into the rich mythos of these iconic alien planet. - Tampa Bay Times

Ambitious and visually daring, Krypton has a lot more potential than the premise (and title) might imply. - IGN

Will you be watching or do you have Superhero fatigue?

Drew Barrymore Doesn't Think "Me Too" Survivors Should Have "A Tone of Anger"

$

*Drew Barrymore does not like the tone of the #MeToo movement. Stephen Colbert asked her about it and she said:

“I think it’s phenomenal… and overdue and wonderful and the only thing I have a personal ‘thing’ about is tone. I don’t want anything to have a tone of anger. I know people say anger is healthy, I have a dark side that’s, you know, a huge chasm, but I’ve never been an angry person."

*Drew, who comes from a powerful Hollywood family that includes John Barrymore and got her first role at the age of 6 from her godfather Stenen Spielberg, says this about women in Hollywood:

"I’ve never expected people to hand me anything and I never expected them to believe in me. I had to create enough homework and data to show proof to them. So I want, I hope that people won’t do it with anger and expectation because what you really have to do is prove that you are capable."

“I think it’s important for women to work hard at their dreams and do it without anger... So maybe there’s a healthy anger and an unhealthy anger, but I can assure you that if you have the abilities and you stay positive and you don’t expect things to be handed to you and you really work towards them, all the greatness will come, because I was never treated like a little girl who couldn't do it."

If u stay positive, will good things come to you?

janelle monáe talks prince, black panther & time’s up

Janelle Monáe talks to Annie Mac about Prince, Black Panther, Time’s Up and about whether she’d consider going into politics.

Living over in America and feeling like the people I love were pushed to the margins of society by the leader of the free world and that regime.

You do have to stand up for those who can't often stand up for themselves - so I do feel a responsibility to knock the hell out of the bully.

Her new album's first single, Django Jane, is a bold, street-smart banger packed with political and feminist discourse.

"They been trying hard just to make us all vanish," she raps at one point. "I suggest they put a flag on a whole 'nother planet".

I'm angry at many of the things that I hear coming out of the mouths of people in the position of power, I'm tired of the abuse of power. I'm tired of so many things. [...] But at the end of the day, I do believe that we are on a shift change. Women are uniting, we're realising we're stronger together, we're more powerful together, that we really can get [things] done when we are aligned - and so Django Jane was important to say that.
