In a Q&A session for The Last Jedi behind the scenes documentary 'The Director and the Jedi', Rian Johnson said that the hand touching scene between redeemable bad boy, Kylo Ren and compassionate Queen Rey of Jakku was one of his favorite scenes in the movie. "To me that's one of my favorite shots in the movie-was those fingers touching. It's the closest thing we'll get to a sex scene in a Star Wars movie."
Mark Hamill followed up by joking, "I didn't even get that."

On Saturday, Olympic gold medalists Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir attended the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game and they were presented with honorary personalised jerseys, receiving a standing ovation from the Toronto fans:

Fellow Olympian, swimmer Penny Oleksiak was also at the game and fangirled on Twitter, which led to this exchange:

In other news, today it was confirmed that Tessa and Scott will appear on The Ellen Show on March 20, exactly one month after their win in PyeongChang:

No word yet on whether they'll drop by the studio, appear via satellite, or film a segment.Going by Tessa's tweet, they're probably going to appear in the studio. It appears that the totally platonic couple ice skating duo has returned to their base in Montreal, as their choreographer Sam Chouinard just posted a video of them doing new choreo for their upcoming Stars On Ice tour (no audio bc the music is kept under wraps):

He suggested five action points:
1. Schools need bulletproof windows on their doors
2. Schools need more school resource officers
3. Social media companies need to change their flagging system that removes girls' nipple pics from their sites to include photos of kids with guns.
4. Kids need bulletproof shields in their backpacks.
5. Schools need central check-in points that visitors have to enter the school through.

Edit: In response to the online response to his video followed up with five more points about gun control on twitter:

Edit:sorry ya'll I know that stuf they said in this vid is kinda fucked up but its the only vid I could find with a source that wasn't banned

As many remember Mischa's incoherent meltdown seen above and run in with the law after crashing a U-Haul into an apartment complex. On March 12, it was reported that she has filed new documents in which she denies everything.

Even though there is video evidence....

Mishca was heard saying, "Oh, no, the whole thing looks like it's going to fall through." Off camera, she can be heard saying, "This is really bad."

"Everything I even own is in this U-Haul," she said. "What are we going to even do about this?"

Julian Casablancas Thinks Ed Sheeran is Successful Because of Cultural Brainwashing

$

0

-Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas recently did an interview with Vulture where he quotes his favourite philosophers, talks about the evils of capitalism and living in an illusion of democracy, and acts like a hipster who thinks his taste in music is superior to yours because you've been culturally brainwashed:

-On the internet:"I thought the internet would help balance the relationship between quality and the mainstream, but it’s gone the opposite way. Quality is being sucked out of music. One Direction will have 4 billion views and the best artists of today will only see a fraction of that attention. I’ve talked about this before, but there’s an exact parallel between music and politics."

-On The Oscars vs The Grammys: "The Oscars obviously have blind spots, but with movies it’s generally the authentic artistic endeavors that get recognized. But when you look at what gets nominated for a Grammy? I don’t understand what the hell it’s all about. "

-On the state of music today:"Today someone like Ariel Pink is relatively unknown. In another era he would’ve been much more popular." (lol if you ignore the fact that he's a piece of shit that called Grimes the r* word and has been accused of sexual assault. Sure, Julian. It's the people and their tastes that are wrong. He then goes on to compare Ariel Pink to DAVID FUCKING BOWIE so...).

-On Ed Sheeran's success being the result of what he calls "cultural brainwashing":"Because if you grew up in a world where Ariel Pink was popular then you would say “I don’t see how Ed Sheeran can be popular.” People grow up with norms knocked into their heads. And I’m not trying to diss Ed Sheeran or any pop star. Ed Sheeran seems like a nice, cool guy and I have nothing against his music. Let him sell a billion records. I’m just saying I don’t understand why there can’t be a world where Ed Sheeran gets 60 percent of the attention and Ariel Pink gets 40 percent. Now it’s almost like Ed Sheeran gets 99.5 percent of it. The creative bands have been pushed so far into the margins. But my bigger point is that whether it’s music or politics, right now we’re mired in whoever’s propaganda is loudest. I’m sorry — I’m not good at explaining things."

-When the interviewer calls him out on the fact that he seems to be basing the validity of artists on nothing more than his own taste in music, Casablancas says:"I’ve dedicated my life to analyzing this stuff. It comes from a belief that I developed when I was 15 years old — probably from my stepdad — that art is not subjective. I believe art is objective, and that time is the truth-teller of quality. If you could time travel 30 years into the future, tell me who is going to be more popular: Ed Sheeran or Ariel Pink?"When the interviewer says he doesn't know, Julian tells him to,"let go of your conditioning".

He then goes on to compare himself to Natalie Portman and how she did both Annihilation and Thor and basically says he does The Voidz to be creative and The Strokes is basically a way for him to make money. Read the full interview at the source to see him give Quincy Jones a run for his money for one of the weirdest interviews of 2018.

ONTD Original: Horror Films Based On TRUE STORIES

$

logo
I'm always a sucker for horror movies that claim to be "based on true events." Whether they're about spectres, slashers, or are creature features, here are six horror films to make that very claim. What do you think?

MV5_BYWVl_M2_Y2_NDUt_OTYy_Mi00_ZDY2_LTky_ZDAt_ZGRk_M2_Fh_Nm_Nj_M2_Ey_Xk_Ey_Xk_Fqc_Gde_QXVy_NTIz_OTk5_ODM_V1_UX182_CR0_0_182_268_AL
Deliver Us from Evil

Based on the true story of Ralph Sarchie, a former NYPD sergeant in the South Bronx, who also does exorcisms as a Catholic Christian demonologist. He wrote a book about his work called Beware the Night, which became the basis for the film.

Eric Bana and Olivia Munn, both who appear in the film, claimed to have seen exorcism footage from Sarchie. Bana tried to convince Munn to not watch the footage; Munn said at Wondercon, "I said, ‘If I can’t see them, then I have to see them,’ and I watched them and [Bana] was right. I watched half of one and I cried and then I kept the lights on and then they’re still on.”

In 2014, Sarchie claimed that demonic possessions were on the rise. He's since retired from the force, but still goes after "demonic infestation[s] around the city."

The 2005 film doesn't really specify what tru fax it's based on, BUT it could have been inspired by Ivan Milat, a serial killer in Australia who preyed on hitch hikers in the so-called Backpacker Murders. Milat didn't kill anyone at the real Wolfe Creek, though.

There is also the likely possibility that it's based on the horrific experience of Peter Falconio and Joanne Lees, two British tourists attacked by a mechanic named Bradley John Murdoch. Murdoch convinced the pair that they needed to pull over on the highway so he could check their car. He shot and killed Falconio and then kidnapped Lees. Lees managed to escape and received help from two truckers who happened to be coming by.

In 2005, Murdoch was tried and convicted.

Supposedly based on Carmen Snedeker and her family; according to Wikipedia,"Ed and Lorraine Warren claimed that the Snedeker house was a former funeral home where morticians committed necromancy and/or necrophilia with the corpses, and that there were 'powerful' supernatural 'forces at work' that were cured by an exorcism."

A book, In a Dark Place: The Story of a True Haunting, was written about the haunting but apparently the author, Ray Garton, was encouraged by Ed Warren to make shit up.

Robert the Doll is currently waiting for you to visit him in Key West!

Robert was brought over from Germany in 1904. According to the official Robert the Doll website, "his unusual size indicates he may have been fashioned in the image of his constant companion – a boy named Robert Eugene Otto. The doll took Robert as his name, while the boy simply went by ‘Gene’."

Robert the Enchanted Doll can move and change his facial expressions. Prior to being banished to the museum, in his former home he would be heard walking and giggling. He's also allegedly responsible for "car accidents, broken bones, job loss, divorce and a cornucopia of other misfortunes" and if you disrespect him when you visit him at the East Martello Museum prepare for some "post-visit misfortunes." Robert has gotten about a thousand letters from visitors begging forgiveness.

I totally forgot about this movie until I worked on this post. Primeval is based on the true story of Gustave, "the most prolific serial killer in history." Gustave also happens to be a 20 foot long crocodile in Burundi known for eating people; Gustave has chowed down on approximately 300 of them.

He's in his 60s now and presumably still going strong, but hasn't been seen since 2015.

220px_The_Town_That_Dreaded_Sundown_Film_PosterThe Town That Dreaded Sundown

One of the earliest slasher films, The Town That Dreaded Sundown is based on the Phantom attacks in Texarkana, aka The Texarkana Moonlight Murders, which took place in 1946 by a serial killer who was never found. A total of eight people were attacked, five of them killed, by this unknown killer. He targeted young couples who were in private areas on the weekends. The main suspect, Youell Swinney, was never officially charged with the killings.

The film is controversial for a couple of reasons: The brother of a victim sued the producer/director, Charles B. Pierce, for how the film portrayed his sister, and Texarkana officials threatened to sue over the film's tagline, which stated, "In 1946, this man killed five people...today he still lurks the streets of Texarkana, Ark." The victim's brother lost his lawsuit, but the film's tagline was removed.

But it doesn't seem like the badblood(.mp3) between the film and the townspeople persists today: Texarkana has had a tradition since the early 2000s to show the film in a public viewing every Halloween.

Was Annihilation too brainy for the box office?

$

  • Annihilation, director Alex Garland's follow-up to Ex Machina, was released worldwide on Netflix today, almost three weeks after the start of its theatre run in the United States

  • The film was never intended to go directly to Netflix, but Paramount decided to dump it there internationally when test screenings indicated that mainstream audiences found it too cold and complex

  • Garland refused to make suggested changes to the final act of the film, and after the box office failure of Paramount's last challenging release, Darron Aronofsky's Mother!, the studio was unwilling to take a similar risk with Annihilation

  • This choice has disappointed movie fans, as Paramount has basically given the straight-to-video treatment to a $40 million dollar sci-fi spectacle due to its thought-provoking plot and female-fronted cast
