The show has been moved to 9/8c (from 10/9c).

Dom making sure to promote our fabulous three female leads

Showrunner Naren Shankar talks about adapting S3 from the book.

Some highlights-

* When they started working on the show, Ty and Daniel were already on book 4 or 5, so they were looking at the characters a little differently, they're thinking of things the show brought up that they never really went into.

* Spoilers for book 3- Ashford will be completely different in the show than in the book. In some way, the show's adapting the books and the books are adapting the show, they're feeding off of each other.

* Talks about how SyFy and basic cable are in a tough business, they don't have subscribers like cable but also don't have the ratings of broadcast networks. He says SyFy has been extremely supportive partners who've let them tell the story the way they want to.

After Variety published a detailed report of sexual-assault allegations against Ryan Seacrest by his former wardrobe stylist, publicists will steer their clients away from Ryan Seacrest and the E! network after the network refused to back down and will have him host the Oscar's red carpet special.

"Usually Ryan is the one you want . . . but there are so many outlets on that carpet, why risk it? There’s plenty of other places for clients to get the exposure...”

When Bob Mackie Dressed Cher as a Showgirl for the 1986 Oscars

A rebuttal to the Academy for failing to nominate her, Cher employed the talents of Bob Mackie to ensure all eyes were on her nonetheless

374305

Bob Mackie is the designer behind some of the red carpet’s most memorable gowns. He's known for doing a lot with very little.

His most memorable creation was for Cher in 1986. The outfit was seen as "a rebuttal to the Academy for failing to nominate her for her role in Mask"

Mackie said of the gown: “We had a meeting at [Cher’s then boyfriend] Tom Cruise’s apartment in New York. She’d been in a lot of movies where she was wearing jeans and T-shirts and hadn’t worn a getup in a long time. I said, ‘But you can’t wear that to the Academy Awards’. She said, ‘I don’t care. I don’t want to look like a housewife in an evening gown.’ She was in every newspaper the next day; she’s not so dumb.”

Cher admit some regrets about the dress: “I knew some people in the Academy didn’t think that I was a serious actress. I always felt a bit sad that I presented Don Ameche with his Best Supporting Actor Award in that outfit. It seemed to make him a little nervous.”

Lena was an honored guest and chose to use her speech to encourage other black women in entertainment to come out:

-“I’m glad I can do that — profess my love to my love out loud in front of all of you," she said. "Who knew that in 2018 that would still be considered a revolutionary act?”
-acknowledged that some are still closeted because of fear of losing out on deals/roles, not wanting to make other uncomfortable, etc
-"Being born gay, black and female is not a revolutionary act. Being proud to be a gay black female is.”
-"So I ask those of you that are still hiding to come out. Come out, wherever you are, please don’t be afraid. And I hope that you know that I’m here to hold your hand whenever you decide to jump into this wonderful pool of people who refuse to be hidden. The water is warm.”

Why the Oscars love method actors

$

0

Method acting's foundational theory originated in the Soviet Union during the early 20th century. It was created by Konstantin Stanislavski and his peers at the Moscow Art Theater as a framework for systematically training young actors. Method acting became influential in the US in the ’30s and ’40s, pioneered by Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, and Sanford Meisner, each of whom transformed and built on Stanislavski’s system.

Today, training in method acting is ubiquitous for aspiring actors. But at the same time, the stakes of method acting continue to rise. First popularized in the US during the 1950s by Marlon Brando's generation of Hollywood stars, method acting continues to be a consistent way for actors to push themselves in new roles.

Almost half of all Best Actor and Actress awards have been won by method actors since 1951.

E! producer claims she was fired for allowing Eva Longoria's Catt Sadler statement to air

Longtime E! producer Aileen Gram-Moreno filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity commission where she says she was unfairly terminated and replaced by a man. In an effort to prevent any mention of the Catt Sandler equal pay issue from going to air after Debra Messing mentioned her, Gram-Moreno was instructed to review all of the prerecorded interviews on the red carpet for mentions of Sadler. Due to the time constraint - they were reviewing interviews as the show was airing - Gram-Moreno said it was all but impossible to review every single interview. She said she listened to most of the Eva Longoria clip but missed the part at the end where she says she stands with Catt Sadler and the clip went to air.

She apologized to her executive producer who responded by saying it probably couldn't have been avoided, but a week later another executive producer called her and informed her that she'd been fired from the upcoming shows she'd been booked for because she let the mention go to air.

E! has made a point of standing behind Ryan Seacrest despite his sexual harassment allegations and he will be hosting their red carpet show on Sunday.

E! will reportedly only be speaking to "friendly" celebs who they know won't bring up the allegations against Ryan Seacrest on air.

The Bad and Lazy Worldbuilding of Netflix's Fantasy Film "Bright"

$

– Lindsay Ellis made a video essay taking down Netflix's Bright, specifically how everything wrong about it is built on its core problem of lazy worldbuilding and writing. It was directed by Suicide Squad's David Ayer, "written" by scum of the earth Max Landis, and cost $90 million to make.
– Ellis draws a comparison between Bright and movies like "Crash", which was also bad but largely praised at the time, and had a terrible understanding of race and social issues, and how Hollywood builds worlds of racial allegories without wanting to offend casual racists, or their target audience. She also goes into examples of fantasy allegories, including the racism of Lord of the Rings, secret worlds and alternate realities, and why Bright's is a problem right from its very premise into the nitty gritty deetails.
– "Movies like Bright 'seek to understand the logic behind racism', but racism isn't logical, and you can't logic people out of a mindset they did not logic themselves into."
– Joel Edgerton (the orc Jacoby) recently said he'd rather think about the people who watched Bright than the bad reviews it got."All I know is what was reported, which was something like—whatever number was reported—something like 11 million that first weekend. Whatever it was, it amounted to a $100 million-plus opening weekend. But, I have to be honest, that’s considering that people don’t have to get in their car, go buy a ticket, go buy the popcorn. There’s a certain age where you can roll over and press play on the remote control. But, according to them, the numbers were there.” So, it was for the people not the critics, etc. Sounds like Suicide Squad.
Bright has a 29% critic rating and a 7.3 audience rating on Metacritic.
– A sequel was greenlit in January, as Netflix was always planning on building the film into a tentpole franchise or universe. Max Landis will not be part of the project this time around.

In Rich People news: Amazon boss donates $42 mill to "never ending clock"

- While Amazon isn't taking money from NRA or storage employees, its boss (networth $123.8 billion dollars), Jeff Bezos throws money at things that might make a less rich person tap their chin in thought

- Bezos gave $42 million to the 1000 year clock, "A clock over 150-metres tall, designed to run for the next 10,000 years, will one day be installed inside a mountain in west Texas. This is the defining project of the Long Now Foundation, a non-profit that wants to “help make long-term thinking more common”. The idea was introduced by inventor Danny Hillis in 1995, who envisaged a clock that ticks once a year, with a hand that moves once a century and a cuckoo that appears once every 1,000 years."

- No news yet on Elon Musk claiming the clock for his next space send-off.

I know that everyone should be free to decide what to do with their money blah blah, but can't help but wonder what a small health care or educational organisation could do with $42 million. ONTD, are my views too socialist and do you appreciate a billionaire giving money to clocks in Texan mountains?

The View interviews Jimmy Buffett, & American Conservative Union Chair Matt Schlapp

$

Yesterday on The View Jimmy Buffett performed and is there to talk about his new Broadway play 'Escape to Margaritaville'. Apparently opening night the bar ran out of triple sec and had to go to the upstairs bar to 'borrow' some. Apparently the show broke the sales record at the bar opening night as well.

They also discuss his cameo in Jurassic World where he is shown saving his probably $40 a piece margaritas as the dinosaurs come flying in. He is also planning a Margaritaville active retirement community in Florida.

American Conservative Union Chair Matt Schlapp discusses controversy at CPAC: Joy goes right in with saying that CPAC has had a lot of far right fringe supporters and speakers the last few years such as: far right French politician Marie le Pen, Nazi Richard Spencer, nut job Milo Yiannopoulos (but was only uninvited after the pedophilia tapes came out). Naturally, Megan needs to interrupt the conversation when Joy starts to really go in on him to make it about how people booed her father at CPAC over what Trump said. Sunny eventually cuts off the conversation about John McCain to bring up the racist comments CPAC Spokesman Ian Waters made about former RNC chairman Michael Steele (that Michael only got the job bc he 'is a black guy'). They then show the clip of Michael confronting Matt about it and it is.....yikes. Matt's always been a ridiculous asshole but this clip is just on a different level. His ass tells Michael that this is 'where you need to have some grace'. Sunny gives him a ton of shit which is pretty great to watch.
