HLN/former CNN anchor Ashleigh Banfield and author of Aziz Ansari exposé take shots at one another
HLN/former CNN anchor Ashleigh Banfield had an extremely bad take regarding Grace, the woman at the center of the article.
HLN host Ashleigh Banfield slams Aziz Ansari accuser: "You have chipped away at a movement" https://t.co/NO8bBHey7ypic.twitter.com/xTPybfdHYb
— Hollywood Reporter (@THR) January 16, 2018
After this, Ashleigh Banfield's producers sent Katie Way (author of the original Babe.net article) an email inviting her on the show to debate Ashleigh on this matter.
Katie's response was...not great.
Here's the full email the https://t.co/YZ14Jca6FS reporter who wrote the Aziz Ansari story sent when asked to go on HLN with @TVAshleigh. It is really something.https://t.co/qTca5xA9m0pic.twitter.com/usZBm0KnIr

It's an unequivocal no from me. The way your colleague Ashleigh (?), someone I'm certain no one under the age of 45 has ever heard of, by the way, ripped into my source directly was one of the lowest, most despicable things I've ever seen in my entire life. Shame on her. Shame on HLN. Ashleigh could have "talked" to me. She could have "talked" to my editor or my publication. But instead, she targeted a 23-year-old woman in one of the most vulnerable moments of her life, someone she's never fucking met before, for a little attention. I hope the ratings were worth it! I hope the ~500 RTs on the single news write-up made that burgundy lipstick bad highlights second-wave feminist has-been feel really relevant for a little while. She DISGUSTS me, and I hope when she has more distance from the moment she has enough of a conscience left to feel remotely ashamed — doubt it, but still. Must be nice to piggyback off of the fact that another woman was brave enough to speak up and add another dimension to the societal conversation about sexual assault. Grace wouldn't know how that feels, because she struck out into this alone, because she's the bravest person I've ever met. I would NEVER go on your network. I would never even watch your network. No woman my age would ever watch your network. I will remember this for the rest of my career — I'm 22 and so far, not too shabby! And I will laugh the day you fold. If you could let Ashleigh know I said this, and that she is no-holds-barred the reason, it'd be a real treat for me.
Thanks,
Katie
Other journalists/people in the media came to Ashleigh's defense
The journalist maligned here as an old ugly has-been - @TVAshleigh - did one of the bravest things any journalist has done in the War on Terror: gave a stinging critique of how US media covers wars, when she was a rising star at MSNBC (& got fired for it) https://t.co/zyunYflKzthttps://t.co/riyPPYGy8M
— Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) January 17, 2018
It's totally legitimate to criticize her commentary (or any other journalists') on the Aziz story. I would think one could do that without mocking her for being an old has-been hag with ugly lipstick and highlights.
— Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) January 17, 2018
When Katie Way was 6 years old, @TVAshleigh was dodging chunks of buildings toppling all around her on 9/11 -- and reporting on it on live TV. I'm guessing Ashleigh isn't terribly shook by this. https://t.co/IxJuVHugZH
— Christy Lemire (@christylemire) January 17, 2018
so I have serious issues with this reporter and how she handled this story, but I'm kinda very here for how unflinchingly she's standing her ground here https://t.co/lts9ezawp2

Ann Curry addresses Matt Lauer harrassment allegations
Ann Curry talks Matt Lauer harassment claims: "I'm not surprised by the allegations." https://t.co/vGvDvlBMuApic.twitter.com/6Lgge5kJv5
— billboard (@billboard) January 17, 2018
In her first interview since leaving NBC four years ago, Ann Curry revealed she was subject to constant "verbal harassment" at the network NBC, discusses leaving her job at NBC and her feelings on Matt Lauer allegations.
Was verbal sexual harassment prevalent during her time at NBC? "I can say that I would be surprised if -- if -- many women did not understand that there was a climate of verbal harassment -- that existed. I think it'd be surprising if someone said that they didn't see that," she said.
Did Lauer abuse his power? "I'm trying to do no harm in these conversations. I can tell you that I -- I am not surprised by the allegations."
When Gayle asked if Lauer had pushed her out of her job she responded that she was "not the one to ask about that," adding "I don't know what was all behind it. I do know that -- it hurt like hell. It wasn't a fun moment. I've learned a great deal about myself. I've really at this point let it go... it's about the problem that's pervasive across industries in work places across America. And this is actually the issue. And the question is ultimately what are we going to do about it? And I, I wonder if we, if we keep focusing only on these individual scandals -- if we're actually going to move off of that foot into creating something better in the future."
Feelings on the #MeToo movement. "I think it's in general overdue," she said. "We clearly are waking up to a reality, an injustice that has been occurring for some time. And I think it will continue to occur until the glass ceiling is finally broken. This is about power, a power imbalance where women are not valued as much as men. I'm not talking about people being attracted to other people. I'm talking about people in the work place who are powerful, who are abusing that power -- and women and men are suffering. And I think the fact that people are speaking out is important and the fact that we are moving against this imbalance of power is absolutely overdue."

Chris Pratt under fire for "lamb meat" Instagram post
Chris Pratt sparks backlash from vegans for "bragging" about eating the "happiest lambs on the planet" https://t.co/qEjfn0KVSapic.twitter.com/dRWx1Ex7ju
— NME (@NME) January 17, 2018
- Self-professed hunter Chris Pratt is causing a shitstorm after he posted a photo on instagram of lamb that he raised, killed, and cooked himself.
- "Look at all this glorious food! We will eat off him for a month. His wool is becoming yarn as we speak. He lived a very good life. He was groomed and shorn, his hooves medicated, de wormed, no antibiotics necessary. Surrounded by laughing loving humans, including children to whom they provided such joy. Nuzzled, pet and loved every day. No stressful travel to his final destination. Trauma Free. Just a touch of a usda certified wand to his head and he goes to sleep. The other sheep don’t even notice. It’s like unplugging a tv. Then Wocka my butcher works his magic. Right now the meat is for friends, family and gifts. Soon though it may be available to my followers as we test recipes and open up to market. Gotta get some things dialed in first. I have found a new passion to add to my many others. #farmlife and jack loves it! You’ll know where to sprinkle my ashes. I’ll tell you that."
- Pratt is being criticized and attacked by vegan and animal-rights activists for the post, particularly the part where he talks about how its like unplugging a tv. He's raised lambs for six months.

Paul Haggis accuser denies claims of Scientology conspiracy
One of three women detailing sexual misconduct claims against Paul Haggis explains the timing of speaking out, why Leah Remini is "shameful" & why she isn't using her name https://t.co/TaTkvKxErdpic.twitter.com/4HMTz5RVSc
— Hollywood Reporter (@THR) January 17, 2018
One of Paul Haggis’ accusers (the one he told "I need to be inside you") has penned a column in the Hollywood Reporter, denying claims that the Church of Scientology is behind her allegations and explaining why she came forward in the way that she did.
She denies allegations from Haggis, Leah Remini, and Mike Rinder that the accusations are part of a smear campaign orchestrated by the Church of Scientology.
-She never planned to to tell her story publicly, but she changed her mind a few weeks ago when she read that another woman had accused him of rape
-She explains why she chose Anonymity. It's because her friends told her that Haggis would use his powerful friends to denounce her, which is precisely what he has done.
-She is not anonymous to the reporters who told her story: They know her name, have seen contemporaneous evidence corroborating the circumstances of her experience and have spoken with people to whom she confided details shortly after the assault
-After the Story was published Haggis attempted to discredit his accusers, alleging they are acting on behalf of the Church of Scientology. She says that she doesn't know and have not spoken or met with any of his other accusers.
"I have no connection with Scientology or its practitioners. For those people — including actress Leah Remini — who have stated publicly that all of Haggis' accusers are part of a Scientology conspiracy, shame on you. Isn't now the time to be listening to your sisters? Such baseless statements attempt to silence all of us and the entire #MeToo movement."

Ricky Martin was moved to tears while working on 'The Assassination of Gianni Versace'
Ricky Martin said Gianni Versace's coming out story moved him in many ways: https://t.co/9syLicLeeS
— Us Weekly (@usweekly) January 17, 2018
- RIcky Martin was moved to tears while working on the latest season of American Crime Story. He portrays Versace's lover Antonio D'Amico.
- “I needed to be part of this,” says Martin, wed to painter Jwan Yosef. “The ups and downs, the frustrations, the uncertainty, the fear of losing your career because you’re gay is something that is there. I needed to talk on behalf of the many people who are, unfortunately, not able to feel as complete as I feel right now.”
- He had trouble talking to the real D'Amico because he was choking back tears. Finding out the story about the real Versace was "a moving experience in many ways." He promised D'Amico that he would try to make the portrayal as honest as possible out of respect for him and Gianni Versace.

Dylan Farrow to Appear on CBS This Morning!
Tomorrow morning my first TV interview airs on @CBSThisMorning. Coming forward on television was not an easy decision or one I made lightly. I knew full well I would be put under a microscope; my words analyzed, my appearance critiqued. /1
— Dylan Farrow (@realdylanfarrow) January 18, 2018
We as a society expect survivors to fit a very narrow mold - sincere but not too frank, eloquent but not too put together, composed but not too rigid. We start by judging not by listening. We begin with skepticism not with belief. That must change. /2
— Dylan Farrow (@realdylanfarrow) January 18, 2018
Tomorrow you will see the me my family and friends know. The raw and honest reality. No airs, just the truth. I wanted to face you, I wanted you to see me; not as a Farrow, not as a figure, but as a woman telling the truth to honor the little girl that got left behind. /3 end.
— Dylan Farrow (@realdylanfarrow) January 18, 2018
For the first time since Dylan Farrow's 2014 letter in the New York Times about the abuse she suffered from Woody Allen, Dylan will speak again tomorrow on CBS The Morning.

Artist Report: LIZ is Coming to Grace Pop in 2018 #MakePopGreatAgain
Let's just admit music has been a dull state for a while.
Elizabeth Nicole Abrams, formally known as LIZ Y2K, has been making
The release of WIRTW garnered a polarizing response from the niche audience who even knows about it (re: Youtube, ONTD). With new music coming this Friday (+ hopefully a debut album soon!), let's take a crash course on how eclectic Liz's discography is and how she's been the underrated carefree pop gem we have always needed.
PART I: Debut - XTC & Singles
The ultimate millennium r&b inspired anthem called 'Horoscope' (2013). #letsjustgettoWORK#VelvetRopeTwentiethAnniversary
In early 2013, LIZ released her debut single (as LIZ) 'XTC' which is a shimmery trap song, sampling "Human" by The Human League. Following this bubblegum r&b sound was 'Hush', the Craig David-tinged 'U Over Them', Horoscope, and her Spice Girls cover of '2 Become 1'.
PART II: Mixtape 1 - Just Like You
As we are moving currently in a 90's revival in fashion and music, LIZ can be accredited to being a pioneer to the upcoming 2000's/Y2K revival. "Just Like You" (2014), a possible lyrical reference to TLC's 'Fanmail', was a bold mission to bring 90's piano house, UK garage, and Miami bass into a future pop setting.
In the dreamy and sultry 'Say U Would', Liz's Janet influence shows up again in a 'Someone to Call My Lover'-inspired instrumental.
'Do I Like U', a song about #abstinence, Liz had a co-writing session with former boybander JC Chasez on this track - a match made in heaven for a project like this, no?
So So Def throwback 'Stop Me Cold' was released as a promotional single with 'All Them Boys' but we never got any true single treatment for it. #JusticeForStopMeCold
'Turn Around', a jersey club dance BOP, closes the mixtape.
PART III: Mixtape 2 - Cross Your Heart
Since Just Like You, Liz has been continuously recording and finding gigs in between, yet she still did not find the break a pop act aims to achieve. In 2016 she released 'Cross Your Heart Mixtape', which is more of a sampler of the material she has been recording. On this project she really amped up with what she was already doing sonically and collaborated with Nicola Formichetti (Lady Gaga, Brooke Candy) for an editorial that experimented with her look.
Liz gives a Ashanti/Mariah rap+pop collab moment with Vic Mensa. Dat organ sample 🔥
Following 'When I Rule the World', High School Luv is a SOPHIE produced song about longing for that #teenagedream.
For ya thirsty hoes I got #HolyWater. This is going to be a certifiedT gay staple.
We can see she's already an evolving artist visuals and in genre. Her new double singles "Queen of Me" and "Could U Love Me" is going to be released this Friday, and I hope this is the true start where people can finally embrace her into the pop landscape.
Tell me, is Liz going to be Carly Rae Jepsen'd? Tinashe'd? Rita Ora'd? Willa Ford'd? Natalia Kill'd?
