ONTD original: The best books to help you live your best life

$

Do you need a little help getting your life together? I mean you're here, so probably! Here are 6 books on facing fear, being creative, not giving a f*ck about the stuff that doesn't matter, forming simple habits that are easy to do (and easy not to do, unfortunately), and getting rid of all the physical crap that has made you it's bitch. Soon you'll be #adulting like a pro! Included is a celebrity author and some celebrity recommendations.

Year of Yes

The mega-talented creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal and executive producer of How to Get Away With Murder chronicles how saying YES for one year changed her life―and how it can change yours, too.

With three hit shows on television and three children at home, the uber-talented Shonda Rhimes had lots of good reasons to say NO when an unexpected invitation arrived. Hollywood party? No. Speaking engagement? No. Media appearances? No.

And there was the side-benefit of saying No for an introvert like Shonda: nothing new to fear.

Then Shonda’s sister laid down a challenge: just for one year, try to say YES to the unexpected invitations that come your way. Shonda reluctantly agreed―and the result was nothing short of transformative. In Year of Yes, Shonda Rhimes chronicles the powerful impact saying yes had on every aspect of her life―and how we can all change our lives with one little word. Yes.

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear
(Recommended by Emma Roberts)

Readers of all ages and walks of life have drawn inspiration and empowerment from Elizabeth Gilbert’s books for years. Now this beloved author digs deep into her own generative process to share her wisdom and unique perspective about creativity. With profound empathy and radiant generosity, she offers potent insights into the mysterious nature of inspiration. She asks us to embrace our curiosity and let go of needless suffering. She shows us how to tackle what we most love, and how to face down what we most fear. She discusses the attitudes, approaches, and habits we need in order to live our most creative lives. Balancing between soulful spirituality and cheerful pragmatism, Gilbert encourages us to uncover the “strange jewels” that are hidden within each of us. Whether we are looking to write a book, make art, find new ways to address challenges in our work, embark on a dream long deferred, or simply infuse our everyday lives with more mindfulness and passion, Big Magic cracks open a world of wonder and joy.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck
(Recommended by Chris Hemsworth)

For decades, we’ve been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F**k positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn’t sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is—a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let’s-all-feel-good mindset that has infected American society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better. Human beings are flawed and limited—"not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault." Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek.

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life

Jen Sincero, cuts through the din of the self-help genre with her own verbal meat cleaver in You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life. In this refreshingly blunt how-to guide, Sincero, serves up 27 bite-sized chapters full of hilariously inspiring stories, life-changing insights, easy exercises and the occasional swear word.

Via chapters such as "Your Brain is Your Bitch,""Fear is for Suckers" and "My Subconscious Made Me Do It," Sincero takes you on a wild joy ride to your own transformation, helping you create the money, relationships, career and general all around awesomeness you so desire. And should you be one of those people who would rather take a bullet than get busted with a self-help book in your hands, fear not. Sincero, a former skeptic herself, delivers the goods minus the New-Age cheese, giving even the snarkiest of poo-pooers exactly what they need to get out of their ruts and start kicking some ass.

By the end of You Are a Badass, you will understand why you are how you are, how to love what you can't change, how to change what you don't love, and how to start living the kind of life you used to be jealous of.

The Slight Edge: Turning Simple Disciplines into Massive Success and Happiness

The Slight Edge is a way of thinking, a way of processing information that enables you to make the daily choices that will lead you to the success and happiness you desire. Learn why some people make dream after dream come true, while others just continue dreaming and spend their lives building dreams for someone else. It’s not just another self-help motivation tool of methods you must learn in order to travel the path to success. It shows you how to create powerful results from the simple daily activities of your life, by using tools that are already within you.

The More of Less: Finding the Life You Want Under Everything You Own

“Maybe you don’t need to own all this stuff.” After a casual conversation with his neighbor on Memorial Day 2008, Joshua Becker realized he needed a change. He was spending far too much time organizing possessions, cleaning up messes, and looking for more to buy.

So Joshua and his wife decided to remove the nonessential possessions from their home and life. Eventually, they sold, donated, or discarded over 60 percent of what they owned. In exchange, they found a life of more freedom, more contentment, more generosity, and more opportunity to pursue the things that mattered most.

The More of Less delivers an empowering plan for living more by owning less. With practical suggestions and encouragement to personalize your own minimalist style, Joshua Becker shows you why minimizing possessions is the best way to maximize life.

Riverdale Roundup: Camila Interview, Questionable Marketing, and Other Embarrassments

$

The CW put out weird ads on social media apps to highlight random couples. There's one for Barchie (Betty/Archie), Vughead (Veronica/Jughead), and Beronica (Betty/Veronica). If called out, they will probably hide behind some half ass excuse of these being friendship couples (yet there's no Jarchie?). Or maybe we can once again hear how the show isn't fanfiction.

---

Camila was on Kelly and Ryan in a pre-recorded segment this morning. There's a clip for this week's episode 3 minutes in. Otherwise they just talk about how Camila's moved around 16 times as a child, and that she has the agent that she currently does because she interned there during her time at NYU and asked if they'd sign her at the end of her internship.

ONTD Original: Where are they now? The Stars of Famous Commercials part 2

$
0
0

Let's look at part 2 of our list of commercial stars.

Vanessa Branch

Dirty mouth? Vanessa Branch, no not Anna Camp or Michelle Branch, is an English actress and model. She is best known for appearing in the Orbit gum commercials. Branch uses the gum to illustrate that good clean feeling (no matter what). Aside from her ads, she also appeared as a hooker in Pirates of the Caribbean, slapping Johnny Depp. Honestly, she's our hero. Oh and she's also done kung fu action movies in China and speaks Mandarin Chinese and French too. When you talk about an incredibly underrated actress, this girl is the picture you see under the definition.

Matthew Alan and Catherine Combs

One of the more legendary pairings, these two actors portrayed siblings in a commercial for Folgers Coffee. Thing is...they may be a little bit too into each other. "You're my present this year" indeed. Just what was Folgers thinking with this commercial? (supposedly its a callback to an ad from the 1980's)
Fun fact, Matthew Alan stated in an interview he didn't meet the other actors until the first day of shooting, which could explain the awkwardness. He's appeared in stuff like This Is Us, 13 Reasons Why, and Criminal Minds. Also, hes married to Lara Croft herself, Camilla Luddington! (also Jo from Grey's Anatomy)

His facial expression in the commercial is just.....lmao.
Grind my coffee beans, oniichan mmmmm

Hallie Eisenberg

Hallie Eisenberg has appeared in various films and tv shows, like Paulie, Bicentennial Man, and the Miracle Worker. But her biggest claim to fame is as the adorable little girl in Pepsi's series of commercials in the 1990's. Singing along, she's appeared alongside various celebrities in their "Joy of Pepsi" campaign. If you haven't guessed by now, she's also sister to Jesse Eisenberg, however she's the normal one in the family (thank god). She's still around, having quit acting to go to college in 2010.

Diane Amos

The Pine-Sol lady! That's the power of Pine-Sol baby! Diane Amos is the loveable spokeswoman for Pine-Sol brand of disinfectants. She's been with the company since 1993, and shows no signs of stopping. Amos started out as a struggling actress and comedian, raising two kids by herself. Pine-Sol literally saved her life, because once she started doing the commercials, she became world famous. Amos recently made headlines in the 2010's with a viral ad campaign where she literally burst through wallpaper and scared the shit out of unsuspecting people with "THAT'S THE POWER OF PINE-SOL!" and yes, it's every bit enjoyable as you think.

New Order toots their own horn; promotes Blue Monday on Blue Monday

$

The third Monday of every January has long been crowned the saddest day of the year, but while the science behind the unflattering title has been scoffed at by experts, some say the day has unintended value.

"Blue Monday" was coined in 2005 by Cliff Arnall, a former lecturer at Cardiff University, for a now-defunct U.K-based travel agency as a tactic to sell winter vacations.

But while a 2017 publication by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health says "there is no scientific basis for why the third Monday in January has been deemed Blue Monday," at least one expert says it might nevertheless have its benefits. "Anything that can help us to open the dialogue and conversation about mental health can be a positive thing," CAMH clinical psychologist Dr. Katy Kamkar said.

HLN host Ashleigh Banfield to Aziz Ansari accuser: you're ruining the #MeToo movement

  • "I'm sorry that you had a bad date. ... But let's take a moment to reflect on what you claim was the 'worst night of your life.' What exactly was your beef? That you had a bad date with Aziz Ansari? Is that what victimized you to the point of seeking a public conviction and career-ending sentence against him? Is that truly what you thought he deserved for your night out?"

  • "You have chiseled away at a movement that I, along with all of my sisters in the workplace, have been dreaming of for decades. A movement that has finally changed an over-sexed professional environment that I, too, have struggled through at times over the last 30 years.

  • "The only sentence that a guy like that deserves is a bad case of blue balls."

$

  • Céline announced an Asian - Pacific tour! She's visiting some places for the first such as Singapore, Jakarta, Taipei, Manila and Bangkok!

  • She will also be visiting Tokyo and Macao again after 10 years

  • (0:00 - 2:58) Céline starts off by answering why she canceled her Manila concert in 2014, and she says that René was sick and she was scared he was going to die. She states it always hard to cancel a show and letting people down

  • She's asked how music helps her recover from personal crisis (3:10 - 8:51). Céline responds by saying music is therapeutic for her. She says it's "kind of like stretching" and a way to de-stress.. She starts rambling as she does, and says that she's lucky to do what she loves and get paid for it because "not everyone loves what they do" and that she prefers her career now to versus when she started since she didn't have to prove herself

  • Céline's then asked if she's the best mom (8:53 - 11:49 )  and she says she is, but "I'm the best for my children, no books should say how to raise a child, she does the best for her children, and I do the best for my children". She also says that she tells them though to be careful because if something happens, since she's known, it's going to be worse.

  • (12:15 - 21:10 ) Céline is then asked who her inspirations are and her secret to the industry since it's changing all the time.

  • Her inspirations : when she was younger were her family, The Doobie Brothers, The Beatles, Supertramp, Mahogany Rush, Frank Sinatra, and Whitney Houston. Her favorites now are Labyrinth, Sia, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and Annie Lennox (she notes the Diva album specifically)

  • About the industry and Vegas: She says that the industry has changed, and that albums aren't sold the way they used to be. She feels fortunate to be able to perform still "because I do an album and then what?" and starts talking about how Vegas is a great place for traveling and food and entertainment.

  • She then starts saying people thought her show was going to be a bad idea but everyone came to visit like Oprah, and Michael Jackson. and She said Michael was interested in doing a show and that it's sad what happened to him

  • What does she still wish for? (21:22 - 22:00 ) . Céline starts singing Diamonds by Rihanna and says she would like to be an actress and do drama, but she would never do a movie about her own life

  • (22:25 - 24:15 ) She's askedif she remembers the duet with Charice (now Jake Zyrus) . She says her jaw is still dislocated, and she remembers her dedicating a song (Because You Loved Me) to her mother

  • "and if I may now switch, I'm pretty sure he remembers dedicating the song to his mother, and a big talent, I wish him the very, very best. I hope that, acceptance is hard, we have to, we can't start by judging because is there a final answer really? If you feel this way, we can talk about it, but this is how you feel, and this is how I feel, but this is how Charice felt and we have to respect that. And I wish him the best, and I am very proud I have given him the moment, you know he sang with his heart and people were crying and his mother as extremely proud."

  • (24:57 - 25:37 ) She tells everyone thank you for traveling all the way to Vegas to talk to her and she cannot wait to visit

  • Adele attended Céline's show the other day! (pls duet!!)

adele Queen Celine! What a show, an absolute highlight of my life, thank you so much for the attention to your crowd and insane humor. Happy new year lady x
