  • Supersize Me director Morgan Spurlock wrote an essay detailing that as the Me Too movement gained steam he wondered when it was coming for him


  • He found out in college that a girl he had sex with wrote a story about their encounter saying it was rape and calling him by name

  • According to him even though she said "no" to sex from his perspective it was consensual and they made out on and off until they started having sex

  • At one point when they were having sex she started crying so he stopped so he could comfort her

  • 8 years ago he paid a financial settlement to a female assistant he had called "hot pants" and "sexy pants" the entire time she was employed there

  • Has cheated on every romantic partner he has ever had

  • Ponders reasons why he turned out that way including the fact that he was molested as a young boy, his own father disrespected his mother, he's an alcoholic

  • Has decided that he will solve his issues by being more open with the public

Harvey Weinstein doesn't recall pressuring Salma Hayek to do sex scenes in Frida

- Earlier today, Salma Hayek wrote an op-ed for the NYT detailing her experience with Weinstein. The producer tried to force himself on to her in multiple ways and even threatened to kill her. Weinstein constantly berated her and physically dragged her out of party. Hayek frequently rejected Weinstein's advances in which he would ask to shower with her or watch her shower, give her a massage or give his friend a massage, asked her for oral sex, and also asked her to get naked with another woman.

- Weinstein can't recall pressuring Hayek to do sex scenes in Frida. Weinstein seems to have a sudden case of amnesia any time a woman of color accuses him of assault and harassment.

Sufjan Stevens Nearly Played The Narrator In Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me By Your Name”

  • On why he's never contributed original music to a film before: “I think it’s because I’m always a little suspicious of the role of music in cinema. But Luca is an exception, because he’s one of those rare directors who uses music and sound so fiercely and with such mastery that you cannot imagine the films without the music.”

  • Luca wanted him to be the older voice of Elio as the narrator of the film, and to play a bard whose song interrupts the narrative of the film. Sufjan told Luca that he didn't think either of these aspects worked, and they both ended up being cut.

  • It was Luca's idea to create a new version of Futile Devices, and it was just a happy accident that the lyrics of the song fit so well with the content of the movie.

  • He wrote Mystery of Love and Visions of Gideon having only read the book and the script, and Timothée was listening to the latter with an ear piece while filming the credits scene.

  • He first talked to Luca while he was on tour for Carrie & Lowell, and the songs for the film very much come from the same emotional space as the album.

  • He typically uses music as a way of understanding certain situations and relationships, but with Carrie & Lowell, it was the act of touring and sharing the music that was a cathartic experience for him.

  • On taking different approaches and crossing different genres with his music: "I think it’s important to stay open to new things, and stay curious. I don’t know, I think I’m always interested in writing the perfect song, and sailing towards that. Rather than be disappointed by not doing that, or feeling disillusioned by that, I just continue onward, steadfast, trying to make it work."

PBS Suspends Tavis Smiley's Show Following Sexual Misconduct Investigation

“Effective today, PBS has indefinitely suspended distribution of ‘Tavis Smiley,’ produced by TS Media, an independent production company. PBS engaged an outside law firm to conduct an investigation immediately after learning of troubling allegations regarding Mr. Smiley. This investigation included interviews with witnesses as well as with Mr. Smiley. The inquiry uncovered multiple, credible allegations of conduct that is inconsistent with the values and standards of PBS, and the totality of this information led to today’s decision.”

-Created a toxic work environment where he was verbally abusive and threatening. People were afraid of him retaliating against them

-Witnesses expressed concerns that their employment was dependent on engaging in a sexual relationship with Smiley

-Back in February, a former producer of his show, wrote that his “misogyny is always creeping around, barely camouflaged by Midwestern good manners."

Hulu's Future: What the Fox-Disney deal means for the TV streaming service

*If the announced Fox-Disney deal is approved (which is expected to take 12-18 months), Disney will own a 60% stake in Hulu (adding Fox's 30% stake to the 30% stake Disney already owns via ABC)

*The deal casts Hulu's future direction into uncertainty

*Options for Disney include consolidating their streaming service plans into Hulu (aka RIP Netflix) or expanding Hulu into international markets.

*Bob Iger (who will be staying on as CEO of Disney through 2021) said this morning they plan to make Hulu an outlet for more "adult-oriented product” from Fox.

*One analyst thinks Hulu's management is such a mess that eventually Disney will just sell off the shares to Comcast/NBCU and walk away, focusing on it's own streaming service instead.
