Eurovision roundup: Austria, stage, JESC and more

The singer-songwriter and producer has had his first experience in Eurovision already, as part of Bulgaria's team in the last two years (Poli Genova, in 2016, placed forth, while Kristian Kostov, this year, placed 2nd).

The most modern version of 2001's stage redeemed this year's logos. It has been designed by the same person who design this year's stage.
The concept: "The rich history of the Portuguese as a maritime nation reflects, without any boundaries, all of the values that make the Eurovision Song Contest unique today. Portugal and especially Lisbon are historic melting pots enriched by the impressions of newly discovered cultures that were brought back to the home port. This is mainly due to the Portuguese sailor men, who traveled the seas with courage and outstanding skills of navigation + The 2018 Eurovision Song Contest will take you on an expedition through many different cultures in Europe and around the world. A journey through the high seas of music that pursues to discover, connect and ultimately unite the nations. Portugal stands for bringing together countries and their cultures. In 2018 Portugal will unite the music of Europe. With this Eurovision Song Contest stage, Portugal will be the navigator and compass again".

Russia won for the second time, with the song "wings" by Polina Bogusevich.

(It may not be available in your country though)

Runner up was last year's winner Georgia, only three points behind (they won in the jury vote, by the way). In third place, Australia. The Netherlands won the online voting and went 4th. My true winner Belarus finished 5th. This edition took place on November 26th.
JESC happens every year since 2003 and next year it will not happen in Russia, but in Belarus - this was decided before the contest.

After taking part of Eurovision 2012 and 2016, lithuanian singer Donny Montell might be back for the third time! But it won't be a solo entry. He is working with Egidijus Dragūnas, lead vocalist of quartet SEL. According to esctoday, they dropped some obvious hints:
"I think our experience and this piece of work are exactly what we need for Eurovision. I’ve been on stage for many years, but from those who have not yet seen this competition. Maybe it’s time itself?"
"And why not? This time, let it be with Egie. Who are my biggest Eurovision fans?"
Remember Montell's participation in ESC below:

22 songs were selected to compete in Albania's national selection, and you can fully listen to them right now!

The twitter wide manhunt for a UK man riding the train & bragging to friends about his cheating escapades began with a simple tweet:

  • As usual, half of twitter turned into a collective of Detective LaToya Academy agents to try to identify the allegedly proud philanderer, the other half denounced the search

  • Which caught the eye of BBC host Deborah Meaden:

  • Support for the search:

    Ongoing Criticism:

  • The saga sort of ends with this (people are still going hard for/against it on twitter):

  • Have you ever helped a friend expose their cheating significant other? Or are you the cheater waiting to be exposed? Hmmmm?

Beyoncé & Ed Sheeran Expected to Go No. 1

As of today, Beyoncé will officially be credited as a lead artist rather than a featured artist and receive credit on the chart entry for the song on next week's chart. "Perfect" has already reached No. 3 in the US, and is expected to go No. 1 within the next couple of weeks in the US and No. 1 in the UK this week
    - The move was likely done to favor Beyoncé as she has yet to have a No. 1 song this decade. If it goes No. 1, she will join the likes of Madonna, Michael, Britney and Justin Timberlake in having songs go number 1 in 3 different decades
    - Sheeran said he and Beyoncé began working on the "Perfect" collaboration in May, and that the email address he uses to reach her changes every week
    - Although the remix has the exact same lyrics as the original version, Beyoncé also received a writing credit *pretendstobeshocked.gif*

Early this morning, Selena Gomez appeared to have a tantrum online and made her instagram private after posting a screenshot of her Billboard fluff piece with the caption "Never will I let another human guess my words ever again. Or invite them in my home. That is so hurtful. The most ridiculous part of that is no one knowing my heart when I say things."

The part of her interview that is screenshotted talks about Selena's teddy bear: "There’s a five-foot teddy bear sprawled across the kitchen floor in Selena Gomez’s North Hollywood home. ‘I know, I know,’ says Gomez, rolling her eyes, acknowledging that the stuffed animal doesn’t quite blend with the trio of armchairs nestled in the inviting, marble-accented nook. ‘It was a gift, and at first I thought, ‘This is so ridiculous, I can’t wait until I give it away to another person.’ But Gomez, 25, hasn’t let go of it — yet.”

Disney exec sends email from corporate account attacking Danny Masterson's purported victim

Follow-up to this post (Netflix exposed at soccer match) and this post (Masterson fired):

During a girls' soccer match he was coaching, Andy Yeatman, Director of Global Kids Content at Netflix and producer of numerous children's shows rebuked one of the women Danny Masterson is alleged to have violently raped. He said he and other executives at the company do not find any merit to the numerous rape charges the actor is facing, and implied that she and the others who came forward will never be vindicated. The story got a bit of attention. Since then, Netflix has gone for damage control and fired Danny Masterson from the Netflix show he was on, although Yeatman remains employed by the company.

Perhaps with that last part on her mind, Lilly Yeatman, the wife of Andy Yeatman, wrote an angry email to the husband of the woman from the soccer match. Lilly Yeatman is the director of multiple marketing departments at Disney, she sent the email from her official corporate account:

As of me writing this post, Lilly Yeatman is the only person affiliated with Disney who has reacted to the Andy Yeatman incident in an official capacity. One might conclude her Disney email represents the official stance of the company.

Gary Oldman's still the fruntrunner for Best Actor at this Oscars next year, though just barely...

-- Gary Oldman's still at the top of the race to win Best Actor for "Darkest Hour", though his steam is running low, and Variety's aware of this because...
-- This ties in with Timothee Chalamet gaining speed since winning the earlier critics awards, and 'Call Me by Your Name' getting better reviews/more awards/higher box office/huge buzz overall
-- The usual other names are thrown around as possible nominees, including Daniel Day-Lewis, “Phantom Thread” (of course), James Franco, “The Disaster Artist” (expected, will probably win the Golden Globe comedy award), and actually Jake Gyllenhaal, “Stronger” over Tom Hanks, “The Post” (who won the NBR's Best Actor)

-- Other potential possible names in the mix (some will at least get a GG nomination next week) include: Daniel Kaluuya, “Get Out”; Andrew Garfield, “Breathe”; Denzel Washington, “Roman J. Israel, Esq.”; Kumail Nanjiani, “The Big Sick”; Hugh Jackman, “The Greatest Showman” or “Logan” (will prob get a GG nod for Showman since comedy/musical category this year is empty as fuck outside Franco and Kaluuya); Kumail Nanjiani, “The Big Sick”; and yes... Adam Sandler, “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected).”

Golden Globe nominations are this coming Monday; SAG award nominations are next Wednesday; and Oscar nominations are waaaaay down the line, on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.

Sir Patrick Stewart on "Logan", "Star Trek", and Harvey Weinstein

Variety interviewed Sir Patrick Stewart in light of ongoing Oscar buzz for his role in "Logan". Here are some highlights:

    • Patrick credits the unique nature of "Logan" is due to it being a Western/road trip movie combo than merely a superhero movie, especially due to Xavier's and Wolverine's role reversals of protector and troubled souls.

    • Patrick lost 20 pounds for "Logan" to appear as frail as possible

    • Patrick would only return to "Star Trek" if someone comes up with a compelling enough story for him, like uniting all existing "Star Trek" cast members

    • Patrick is currently adapting an unnamed novel into a London stage play

    • Patrick supports all the sexual assault victims currently coming forward and believes Hollywood needs to change to prevent it happening in the future (understood the term "casting couch" in first year of drama school)

    * As the tweet says, this is also the first time a play by an Asian-American woman will appear on Broadway.

    * During the 2015-2016 season, only two Broadway plays were written by women. A study released in 2016 found that, between 2011 and 2014, only 3.4% of 2,508 non-Broadway productions at 153 theaters were written by WOC.

    * Straight White Men"revolves around three brothers (the aforementioned straight white men) visiting their widower father for Christmas. The eldest brother has an existential crisis over his failure to fulfill his own potential and privilege, and other things surely happen as well."

    * Certified crybaby and rape apologist Armie Hammer has a lead role in the play.

    • Scientologist, serial rapist, and neckbeard Danny Masterson got fired from The Ranch, as discussed in previous posts.

    • Masterson released a statement, which manages to make him look like even more of a fuckboi than he already is.

    • “I am obviously very disappointed in Netflix’s decision to write my character off of The Ranch. From day one, I have denied the outrageous allegations against me. Law enforcement investigated these claims more than 15 years ago and determined them to be without merit,” Masterson, 41, told Us Weekly in a statement. “I have never been charged with a crime, let alone convicted of one. In this country, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, in the current climate, it seems as if you are presumed guilty the moment you are accused. I understand and look forward to clearing my name once and for all. In the meantime, I want to express my gratitude to the cast and crew that I’ve worked so closely with over the past three seasons. I wish them nothing but success. I am also so thankful to the fans that have supported me and continue to do so.”
