ONTD Original™ - Halloween Edition: 12 Things You May Not Know About the 'Friday the 13th' Franchise

You know the mask, you know the name. But do you know these twelve things about the Friday the 13th franchise? You never know what may come up at your next trivia night.



Jason Voorhees' first name was almost "Josh" at one point in the first movie's script. It was changed because "Josh" sounds too nice. The original Friday the 13th, which was made on a $550,000 production budget, earned $59 million globally at the box office in 1980.


Adrienne King, Alice in the first and second movies, had a real-life stalker.


Jason first acquired his iconic hockey mask in the third movie by taking it from the character of Shelly. In the previous movie, he wore a cloth sack over his head.


Crispin Glover improvised his own dancing in that memorable scene. He danced to AC/DC's "Back in Black," but they dubbed over the scene with Lion's "Love is a Lie." Watch the whole dance here.


Jason's hockey mask always has red marks on it, but in the fifth movie, the marks were blue. This is because the killer in the movie wasn't actually Jason. It was someone else pretending to be Jason.


The original Jason stuntman in the sixth movie, Dan Bradley, was replaced with a stuntman with no experience because a producer thought Bradley looked "fat." The already shot paintball scene with Bradley was kept in the movie, though. When the makers of the Crystal Lake Memories documentary called Bradley to participate, he supposedly hung up on them.


Many of the cast members in the seventh movie were gay or lesbian, including the final girl Tina's love interest, Nick (Kevin Blair). Fans nicknamed this sequel "Frigay the 13th."


Despite being set in Manhattan, the eighth movie had to be filmed elsewhere due to the restrained budget ($5 million). Most of the movie was shot in Vancouver. The boxing scene (Julius' actor was really punching Jason, by the way) with Voorhees was supposed to take place in Madison Square Garden.


The actual Necronomicon prop from the Evil Dead franchise appeared briefly in the ninth movie as a hint at a possible Friday the 13th/Evil Dead crossover. The movie never happened, but a limited comic book series called Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash was eventually made.


The tenth movie, which was only made because Freddy vs. Jason was in development hell, was completed in 2000. Yet it sat on shelves for two years. New Line Cinema had already released several flops in 2000 (Little Nicky anyone?) so they had no faith in Jason X. Before the movie ever got a theatrical release in 2002, it leaked online and was downloaded illegally by many fans.


The concept for Freddy vs. Jason had been in development since 1987. Supposedly there were eighteen scripts made before they settled on the final one.


The 2009 reboot is one of two movies in the franchise - the other being The Final Chapter - to have exactly thirteen deaths.

+ Junji Ito “Collection“ will adapt stories from both the 11-volume Itō Junji Kessaku-shū (Junji Ito Masterpiece Collection) series and the Fragments of Horror book.
+ Director and character designer Shinobu Tagashira illustrated the key visual. It shows six characters from Ito's works: Fuchi ("Fashion Model"), Tohru Oshikiri ("Oshikiri Idan"), Tomie (Tomie series), Sōichi ("Sōichi" series), Handsome Man at the Crossroads ("Shibito no Koiwazurai"), and Yūko ("Namekuji Shōjo").
+ It will air Jan. 7 on Japan’s Tokyo MX.

Italian producer named in Weinstein scandal gives interview, his lawyer mocks Asia Argento

- Fabrizio Lombardi is the producer Asia Argento named as the man who allegedly tricked her into going into Harvey Weinstein's hotel room claiming there was a party, then, according to her, left her alone with the producer where she was allegedly raped

- Model Zöe Brock also accused Lombardi of "hunting" for Weinstein

- In an interview at his lawyer's office, Lombardi denies Brock's claims and says he never brought Argento to Weinstein's room, but also said bringing a woman to an abuser's room isn't enabling sexual abuse. "So you can’t complain with the driver or with the doorman of the hotel who sends the woman up, you see what I mean?"

- Lombardi's lawyer mocks Asia Argento calling her the "virgin of 2017"

- Lombardi says he sent the lewd Whatsapp messages to Asia Argento (including one meme where Silvio Berlusconi asks for an escort to be sent to his villa) by mistake and it was just a coincidence that the first time in years he contacted her was just when she came forward about her experience with Weinstein and himself

Minka Kelly denies cheating rumors & shares her encounter with Harvey Weinstein

Minka replied back "“They’re not. Hate for you to be disappointed. Glad I could clear that up for you. Now fuck off.”

Minka replied to another user who asked "I don't know where your "fuck off" comment went but it was pretty awesome."
Minka's respone "I didn't delete it and I stand by it. Anyone and their assumptions about my personal life can do the same."





It reads:
"I met Harvey at an industry party. The following day, my agent said he wanted to see me for a general meeting. The location was set for his hotel room. I wasn’t comfortable with going to his room & said so. The following day, we sat down with an assistant in the hotel restaurant. He bullshit me for 5 minutes re: movies he could put me in, then asked the assistant to excuse us. As she walked away, he said, "I know you were feeling what I was feeling when we met the other night” and then regaled me with offers of a lavish life filled with trips around the world on private planes etc. IF I would be his girlfriend. Or, “We could just keep this professional.” All I knew was not to offend this very powerful man and to get out of the situation as quickly as possible. I told him while flattered, I'd like to keep things professional. He said “Fine. I trust you won't tell anyone about this.” I said “Of course not. Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me,” - the only way I could think to shut it down gracefully and excuse myself.
I immediately told my agent what happened. We marveled at his audacity, reinforced my instinct not to offend him & laughed at how glad I was to get out of there. Neither of us were that surprised as this wasn’t far off from the day-to-day bullshit of being an actress.
I'm sorry for obliging his orders to be complicit in protecting his behavior, which he obviously knew was wrong or he wouldn’t have asked me not to tell anyone in the first place. For making him feel ok about the gross things he was saying and that I felt my only route was to say I was flattered. For not insisting that my reps never allow anyone to take a meeting in a hotel room (with him or anyone else), because I honestly don’t know what might have happened if I’d just showed up as originally scheduled.
I am appalled for all the women being told these occurrences are in any way their fault. No more Harvey Weinstein in Hollywood does not solve the problem but maybe the more voices sharing their stories and adding support to the countless women and men who have suffered through abuse of power, the less it will be tolerated."


Do any of you believe Minka and Jesse did not cheat? I do not believe so since Jesse and Aryn had been in couples counseling last year so why would Aryn and their friends be blindsided about Jesse filing for divorce. It seems like they had trouble that could not be fixed and then separated for some time before he decided to officially file for divorce.
Do any of you believe Weinstein will be prosecuted for his crimes since there are now ongoing investigations? I hope so since now this has become international.

Good for Minka and her agent on deciding to not have her meet with him in a room alone but rather in a public space because it could have been a lot worse.

It seems like any woman that Harvey Weinstein came into contact with, he either tried to sexually assault or he did sexual assault. Nobody was safe from this predator. Hope he goes to jail for his crimes.

Top Movie Producers Debate Harassment in Hollywood

-Sitting down with THR editorial director Matthew Belloni, Judd Apatow (The Big Sick), Seth Rogen (The Disaster Artist), Amy Pascal (The Post, Molly's Game), Jason Blum (Get Out), Ridley Scott (Blade Runner 2049, All the Money in the World) and Eric Fellner (Darkest Hour) addressed the claims that Weinstein reached at least eight monetary settlements with women who had accused him of sexual misconduct.

-The discussion took place Saturday, before Weinstein was subsequently terminated as co-chairman of The Weinstein Co. on Sunday
- "There's a culture of paying off people," Apatow said of the industry, explaining that women often feel they need to stay silent in fear of losing work. "They set up a power dynamic that is very difficult for people to figure out what to do about [it]. That's why it lasts for decades, because it's a perfect system."

- Rogen recounted working with the mogul 10 years ago, and vowing never to work with him again after his experience. "I was like, 'This is a bad dude,'" the actor-producer recalled.
- Pascal echoed similar sentiments, stating she doesn't believe Weinstein is the only one: "I don't think that he's an outlier, and that's probably why a lot of people haven't spoken up."

-Was a teenager at the time, went on a date with an older costar of an unnamed project who was more experienced/famous than her
-He tried to force himself on her but she stopped him and said no

"I remember feeling like this was a scene right out of a horror movie."

-She thought he was driving her home, but realized he was actually driving towards his apartment. She made him drop her off at her place, he was salty but obliged
-The next day she tried to talk to him about how it made her uncomfortable and he called her "manipulative" and a "tease"

"This guy proceeded to tell me that it was my fault for leading him on. Saying that 'I seemed like a sexual girl and that I’d be down for it.' That I misled him."

-Afterwards he refused to talk to her again
-Didn't say anything about it to the production because she didn't want to be seen as a diva, figured no one would believe her, and that this guy had much more power than her

"I stand with them. I believe them. I believe in standing up for yourself as a woman and coming forward about sexual harassment."
