Talking THAT Major Star Trek: Discovery Moment...

0
0

-the relationship between Philippa and Michael is the "show’s beating heart"
-their relationship "transcends rank" (no comment)
-Philippa’s death is "personally devastating" for Michael
-Screenrant, AND FANS, ask – could Captain Philippa Georgiou return to the world of the living? Turns out... it’s complicated.
-it seems "a virtual certainty" that she will continue to play a role via flashbacks, which STD producers confirmed will be a major part of the series' structure going forward

-FIRSTLY, highly likely we’ll see far more of their relationship from Michael joining the USS Shenzhou until the present point in the timeline
-But will we see a Georgiou Resurrection? As Michael attempts to find redemption, her Captain’s death will remain a defining moment, BUT of course resurrection has been seen before in Trek, so never say never?
-When series producer Alex Kurtzman was asked about Georgiou and if she was really dead (and if it's a Jon Snow situation), he coyly answered as such: "Here’s what I will say: Yes, 100 percent, she’s really dead. That being said, have patience with us."
-Is he teasing a return to life, or just patience for more Philippa in Flashback Form? Or... something else?
-Jonathan Frakes (who will be directing, as that’s what he does nowadays since being Commander Will Riker on ST: Next Generation) let it slip recently that Discovery will also be visiting the MIRROR UNIVERSE during season 1, known well to fans as a dark parallel reality where people have menacing goatees and generally like murder, orgies and complete depravity.
-So actual legit resurrection seems improbable (although possible) Screenrant believes, but this is NOT the last we’ll be seeing of Queen Michelle Yeoh and Captain Philippa Georgiou...

Follow up to this post. Sebastian deleted the Instagram post of the meme and commented this 'apology' to a fan account: "Listen guys, I recognize the timing of my last post and I truly apologize to anyone who may have been offended by it. It was a reference to an actual event that took place in 1994, which is now depicted in the movie I'm currently promoting. Nothing more." (he actually included the quotation marks in the comment)

Katy Perry Roundup: Will The Witness Tour Flop?

0
0

WITNESS: The Tour was delayed for two weeks because of "unavoidable production delays," but kicked off one week ago in Montreal. The tour is one of the most anticipated for fall, but is expected to be less profitable than her other tours after Witness's lackluster commercial and critical performance.

But will it flop?

Witness definitely won't be the #1 most profitable tour for 2017-2018-- it's competing against Ed Sheeran, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift, to name a few.

To successfully top her own concert tours, Katy will have to beat these records:

California Dreams Tour: $59.5 million from 127 shows

Prismatic World Tour: $204.3 million from 149 shows with a total attendance of 1,984,503

New pics of the tour have appeared online. The sets have an avant-garde futuristic 80's look, and the costumes look like Bob Mackie-inspired 80's Barbie clothes.

Reviews have been mixed. Generally reviewers are praising the aesthetic, but panning the actual music. Yikes.

"Besides all the show antics, which included dazzling references to 1980s arcade games, analog TVs, and a guitar player in a Ziggy Stardust-inspired leotard, Perry’s main prerogative throughout the show was redefining herself from who she used to be.

Perry seemed half-committed to the performance. She didn’t finish many lines from those songs, which maybe wasn’t apparent to the unobservant show-goer as she sang over her pre-recorded voice... She couldn’t finish lines that required pitch changes."

"It was easy to understand why there was a production delay given the incredible stage design, complete with proscenium to get up close and personal with the audience, and the many playful props and costumes incorporated into the show."

"The firework that should have illuminated Katy Perry’s likeable persona and pure pop songs instead fizzled out after the first half.

Despite — or maybe because of — her seasoned status, the lack of “oomph” seemed surprising.

But not even glittery bodysuits, a giant screen shaped like an eye and an enthusiastic backing band can save a show that lacks real grit and offers saccharine heart instead."

This is the set list:

In the Space video
1. “Witness”
2. “Roulette”
3. “Dark Horse”
4. “Chained to the Rhythm”
Act My Age video interlude
5. “Teenage Dream”
6. “Hot N Cold”
7. “Last Friday Night”
8. “California Gurls”
9. “I Kissed a Girl”
Celestial Body video interlude
10. “Deja Vu”
11. “Tsunami”
12. “E.T.”
13. “Bon Appetit”
Mind Maze video interlude
14. “Thinking of You”
15. “Save as Draft”
16. “Power”
Motorcyclist video interlude
17. “Hey Hey Hey”
18. “Part of Me”
19. “Swish Swish”
20. “Roar”

Encore:
21. “Firework”

"Roulette" might be the next single. The song will be used in her on-again/off-again boyfriend Orlando Bloom's upcoming action movie S.M.A.R.T. Chase. The song was inspired by Shanghai and the movie takes place there as well.

PRAY 4 ROULETTE.

Russell Brand, the comedian with a tiny penis who was once married to Katy Perry, says that he is open to reconciling with her.

He gave an interview saying,

"It was a very important and lovely time in my life. I don’t regret being married to Katy at all. I have very positive feelings about that whole experience and Katy is an extraordinary woman. I’m willing and open for reconciliation, any kind. Because if we can’t overcome our relatively trivial personal disputes in this world, what hope is there for us?”

He also still has the matching tattoos in Sanskrit that he and Katy got:

"Oh, of course I still have it."

Orlando Bloom might be going broke. Allegedly he blows his cash on lavish parties, exotic vacations, and luxury goods, despite not having had a hit movie in years.

A stagehand is suing Katy Perry, Livenation, and other production companies after losing a toe while moving a stage during the Prismatic World Tour in 2014.

NYT Books covered romance novels this week and people are understandably thrilled

0
0

- This week's cover story, written by 86-year-old Robert Gottlieb, is promisingly headlined "A Roundup of the Season's Romance Titles," but when the first book covered is Julia Quinn's 2000 classic The Duke and I, you know you're in for an ironic, condescending ride. Which you really should have expected from the Times at this point, come on.

- While the genre can be critiqued well by people who know what they're talking about, this roundup immediately descends into the rote, distanced, condescending tone you'd expect from the old Gray Lady. From Julia Quinn's 17-year-old novel, he goes on to cover Cheris Hodges' Deadly Rumors with an eyebrow-raising "Oh, yes; Zoe and Carver are African-Americans, though except for some scattered references to racial matters, you'd never know it," and then a warmer review of Catherine Anderson's (apparently "clean romance") The Christmas Room, which makes you wonder if he's a Pioneer Woman fan.

- He decries the repetitiveness of historical romances, while only focusing on Regency ones that support his argument, but worst of all are the boners. Georgette Heyer and Barbara Cartland didn't need boners! "No Cartland heroine ever came into contact with a hardened rod." Sure, you might run headlong into racism and anti-Semitism, but at least Heyer kept it couth.

- And, as with all things, it turns to Fifty Shades of Grey. Sure, he just listed all these books that feature empowerment and women with well-rounded lives, but that doesn't explain why (Rushdie-approved, of course) 50SOG is popular. Do women really just want to be spanked by zillionaires? Or is this sudden turn to Christian Grey simply yet another expression of the NYT's magnetic attraction to the taint of whichever billionaire authoritarian looks their way? Anyway, if that's not your thing, he has some "adorable" Debbie Macomber to rec you.

- After thousands of words about how romance novels are either P&P or Jane Eyre, it looks like his editor made him throw in a paragraph at the end about how romance novels actually cover everything under the sun, "[i]ts readership is vast, its satisfactions apparently limitless, its profitability incontestable. And its effect? Harmless, I would imagine. Why shouldn’t women dream?" In other words, "women are dumb, and will buy and come to whatever tripe you put on display, but fine." The entire thing reads like it was suggested ironically, like it would be funny to have their prudish peer read silly fluff for an "honest" take.

Last season's break out hit "This is Us" return with a series high at 3.9 A18-49 rating.
Law & Order: True Crime, which was the only new series premiering yesterday posted an OK 1.6 ratings, but it did lose nearly 60% of its This is Us lead-in which is not a good thing. NBC should have paired This is Us with a compatible show.
In other returning show news, fan favorite Brooklyn Nine-Nine returned low with a 0.7 rating.
