This Is What a Queer Family Looks Like

Some parts of the interview:

He’s committed to shaking up norms around gender and sexuality. His decade-long polyamorous romantic partnership with Bethany Meyers, a fitness and lifestyle entrepreneur (who identifies as gay) is proof. It’s a different kind of queer relationship, they admit, one that is thoroughly open and modern and enduring.

“There are those pockets of the world, in so many places, that ‘gay’ just doesn’t exist, where there’s no representation,” Tortorella says, speaking of a gay man who escaped North Korea and discovered that gay people exist elsewhere. “And it’s not that different than the representation that existed in Hollywood for the last hundred years. … There’s like one love story and it’s between a white man and a white woman.”

"I believe in the spectrum, the full universe of gender and sexuality, and probably I fall more into the pansexual fluid terms which fall into the umbrella of bisexual in LGBTQ-plus," Tortorella says. "I think when I was first having this conversation, I didn’t like the term bisexual because I think it was a little dated for this generation; people weren’t using it. It kind of puts people into this box. [But] I respect the term bisexual. I use it because I respect it.”

Meyers identifies as gay (“I know more women who call themselves gay than they call themselves lesbian,” she admits), but also embraces the queer label. She says Tortorella is the only man she can imagine having a relationship with

Despite Tortorella and Meyers’s understanding that jealousy is part of being human, for them it’s different. In fact, they told me they never get jealous when the other is dating someone of the same sex, like Tortorella’s highly public relationship with Los Angeles-based hairstylist and Instagram star Kyle Krieger. It’s only when they’re dating someone of the opposite sex that jealousy intervenes, mainly because there’s a chance of having a child, and they both desperately want to have a baby together.

‘Jane the Virgin’ Star Justin Baldoni Developing Men’s Talk Show

“I think that one of the main reasons the talk show space hasn’t previously seen an all-male show is simply because our culture has taught men that they need to be strong, confident, and stoic and that emotions are a sign of weakness. Men in our society have been socialized to suppress their feelings. We want to challenge men to open up and be okay talking to each other, and more importantly, form deep and meaningful relationships. We will probably get our fair share of negative feedback, but we think that’s a good thing.”

“This show is being created by and for men, first and foremost, but we also know that women will find it interesting to have this insight into men — and to know that not all of us want to be a part of ‘locker room’ talk."

Kaya Scodelario for The Laterals

Kaya Scodelario talks to The Laterals about how her unlikely ascent into her acting career, her experiences as a woman in the film industry, and how she hopes to change the landscape of Hollywood and make diverse roles for women the norm.

thelaterals1thelaterals3thelaterals7

What has been the most challenging and rewarding part about playing her [Carina Smyth]?

[...]the most rewarding thing about playing Carina was that I got to portray an intelligent, multifaceted woman who had real depth to her. I hope that it will inspire not only little girls, but hopefully little boys as well—that an intelligent woman is not something to be feared or to be gawked at, but someone to revere and to admire, just like any other male character. I hope that the next generation will be used to seeing these types of characters and representations of women in film regularly.

The idea that men can be sexually attractive throughout their entire lives, while women rapidly lose their sex appeal as they age, is one of the most insidious double standards in our culture. What are your thoughts on the ageist double standards of Hollywood? Do you see this changing in the near future?

I think so. I think what’s great is that we are having this conversation about it now, because people aren’t really speaking up about the fact that many actresses seem to be casted in roles older than they are, or have been told that they are too old for a role. The more we talk about it, the more people will realize that it does not need to be this way and that we can develop and create roles for women that are diverse in their breadth and depth. I hope to work long and hard for many many years and hopefully by the time when I’m in my 50’s, we won’t still see the age divide and these double standards in movies.

What are some of your personal and/or professional goals for the future?

Personally, I just want to spend as much time as I can with my family and walk my dog. Professionally I would really like to produce, I would like to tell my own story, and given an opportunity, create and share stories that are impactful and resonate with people.

Emma Stone's Co-Workers Took Pay Cuts to Give Her Equal Pay

- draws parallels between her new film, Battle of the Sexes (to be released in September) about Billie Jean King's 1973 tennis victory, and the US election: "We began shooting in the spring of 2016, when there was still a lot of hope in the air, and it was very interesting to see this guy—this narcissistic, self-focused, constantly-stirring-the-pot kind of guy—against this incredible, qualified woman."
- says it still feels like a bad dream
- says that over the course of her career some of her male co-stars have taken pay cuts so they will be paid the same amount; does not name names but says that it's "right and fair". "That’s something that’s also not discussed, necessarily—that our getting equal pay is going to require people to selflessly say, "That’s what’s fair." If my male co-star, who has a higher quote than me but believes we are equal, takes a pay cut so that I can match him, that changes my quote in the future and changes my life."

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Among Works of Art

"I adore Florence. I love Italy and the Italian lifestyle. To tell you the truth, I already came to the banks of the Arno [river] with Kim last year, just the two of us, incognito. I think that our daughter North was conceived here among the Renaissance masterpieces. It was our first honeymoon."

Zoe Saldana and Some Random on a Train

Everyone's favorite word vomiter has always been open about her sex life and how much she loves sex. When asked during a radio interview what was the craziest place she's had sex, she said:

“The craziest place [I’ve had sex] — I am a part of the Mile High Club. Okay, this is ghetto, but hey, I’m from Queens, whatever. There is a train from Coney Island all the way back into the city, and in between two train cars. It was super ghetto. I'm a lady now. I'm a lady."

Kirsten Dunst and Jake Gyllenhaal Every-Fucking-Where

Kirsten and Jake, who dated from 2002 to 2004, allegedly broke up because of their different personalities. They apparently tried to heat things up near the end of their relationship. Kirsten explained:

"We tried to spice things up - we had sex in cars, in the bathroom and even by the sea. The only place we didn't have the guts to try was in a walkway in a hotel because we thought we might get kicked out if we were caught."

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith in A Limo

Longtime married couple Will and Jada certainly set the example for what the kids call couple goals, and in 2010, Jada revealed that even after a decade of marriage, they're still hot for each other:

"In a limo, on the way to the Academy Awards this year, Will started looking at me in this way that drives me wild. We started kissing passionately, and the next thing I knew, well, let’s just say we missed the red carpet and I ended up with almost no makeup on."

Honorable Mention Because They Got Caught: Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes in a Magical Castle

In late 2016, Joe Furlow, the general manager of the historic magicians club the Magic Castle in Los Angeles told of how he intercepted longtime and notoriously private couple Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes circa 2015 on their way to the bathrooms during a night out.

Furlow said a year or so ago, he noticed a couple come “barreling” down the stairs to the bar, on their way to the bathroom. He said they proceeded to make out aggressively, with the man’s hands “all over” his date [...] “I said, ‘I like PDA as much as the next person, but can you guys tone it down?’" Furlow reflected, smiling and looking at the ceiling. "And it turns out to be Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling."

"I said ‘Oh, you guys can probably afford a room,'" said Furlow, grinning. "Ryan laughed, and said 'Yeah.'"

Does This Photo Show Amelia Earhart After Her Plane Disappeared?

$

According to HISTORY’s upcoming investigative special “Amelia Earhart: The Lost Evidence,” retired federal agent Les Kinney scoured the National Archives for records that may have been overlooked in the search for the lost aviator. Among thousands of documents he uncovered was a photograph stamped with official Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) markings reading “Marshall Islands, Jaluit Atoll, Jaluit Island, Jaluit Harbor.” In the photo, a ship can be seen towing a barge with an airplane on the back; on a nearby dock are several people.

Kinney argues the photo must have been taken before 1943, as U.S. air forces conducted more than 30 bombing runs on Jaluit in 1943-44. He believes the plane on the barge is the Electra, and that two of the people on the dock are Earhart and Noonan. As part of the program’s investigation, Doug Carner, a digital forensic analyst, examined the photo and determined it was authentic and had not been manipulated, while Kent Gibson, another forensic analyst who specializes in facial recognition, said it was “very likely” the individuals in it are Earhart and Noonan. Both analysts identified the ship in the photo as the Japanese military vessel Koshu Maru, which is thought to be the ship that took Earhart and Noonan away after their crash landing.

#EarhartLostEvidence premieres this Sunday, July 9th at 9/8c on HISTORY.
