Eric Wareheim, Alan Yang, and Lena Waithe spoke about the creative process for three of the most talked-about episodes from the new season of Master of None.
For episode 2,
"Le Nozze":- Apparently having his car get stuck in an alley actually happened to Aziz while he was living in Italy. It was a huge pain to recreate it for the cameras and took an entire day to shoot just that scene.
- The restaurant scene is real - the restaurant owner insisted that Aziz shoot there so all their reactions to eating the food are real.
For episode 6, "
New York, I Love You":- The writers brought in a Gawker journalist to interview random people for inspiration.
- The actor they cast as the cab driver gave them a real list of music that he likes to listen to and they wound up having to call the Burundian government to figure out who owned the rights to a song they liked.
- Andy Samberg voices Nicolas Cage in the movie they screen at the end and he did the voiceover over the phone at 11 at night.
For episode 8, "
Thanksgiving":- Ep was directed by Melina Matsoukas (
Lemonade).
- Lena Waithe says it was probably harder to come out to Angela Basset playing her mom than to her actual mom
- Some of the posters of black actresses on Denise's bedroom walls are Angela Basset's actual friends so it was weird for her to come in and shoot in there
