Netflix Orders South Bronx Music Drama "The Get Down" from Baz Luhrmann

0
0

  • Show synopsis: "The Get Down will focus on 1970s New York City – broken down and beaten up, violent, cash strapped — dying. Consigned to rubble, a rag-tag crew of South Bronx teenagers are nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them – except each other, armed only with verbal games, improvised dance steps, some magic markers and spray cans. From Bronx tenements, to the SoHo art scene; from CBGBs to Studio 54 and even the glass towers of the just-built World Trade Center, The Get Down is a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco — told through the lives and music of the South Bronx kids who changed the city, and the world…forever."

  • Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby) and Shawn Ryan (The Shield, Terriers) will executive produce.

  • The show has been given a 13-episode series order.

  • Baz has been working on the project for ten years and will also direct.

  • The Get Down will arrive in all territories on Netflix in 2016.

Rumor: Constantine May Move to Syfy

  • Sources say that moving Constantine to Syfy is one of the more popular ideas amongst the head honchos now. It proved popular when they aired a marathon last year.
  • They are thinking of renaming it 'Hellblazer' and exploring the darker aspects of that universe.

That's not a bad idea, tbh, though I would rather they stay at NBC just so I can gloat.

Japan Is Doing Some Creepy Robot Shite, Nobody Is Surprised

Huis Ten Bosch is a Dutch-themed amusement park in Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan. The Henna-na Hotel within the simulated Netherlands will open July 17th, and will be partially staffed by 'Actroids', animatronics produced by Kokoro, Sanrio's animatronics division (this is a thing they have, apparently). The Actroids were developed by Osaka University beginning in 2003, and they will perform tasks for hotel guests like providing front desk assistance and serving coffee. They can supposedly engage in intelligent conversations with human guests.

Hideo Sawada, the co-president of the park, says he wants 90% of the hotel staff in the future to be robots. Because they run on only power and don't have to be paid, robotic staff actually reduce costs. The hotel will have 72 rooms and cost about $120 a night. Oh, and keys/keycards will not be available, since you open your room via facial recognition.

Harper Lee is "Happy as Hell" About New Book, Says a Statement Her Lawyer Sent to Her Publisher

A new statement supposedly written by Harper Lee was released today through her publisher HarperCollins, amid concerns that the reclusive deaf/near-blind novelist is being taken advantage of by those around her. The statement, allegedly given to her lawyer Tonya Carter after a visit to the Monroeville, Alabama assisted living facility where she currently resides, reads: "I'm alive and kicking and happy as hell with the reactions to 'Watchman,'" Ms. Carter relayed the message to Lee's agent, who then sent it to the publisher.

Fans initially reacted with cautious excitement over the announcement of the new novel, "Go Set a Watchman", while skeptics questioned the motives behind the sudden release of new work over half a century after Lee's debut novel "To Kill A Mockingbird". According to the New York Times, "Karen Hare, the owner of David’s Catfish House on the edge of Monroeville, said Ms. Lee had remarked several times during her visits that were she ever to publish another book, she would want it done posthumously. 'People knew about the book, but never for sure,' Ms. Hare said. 'She always said she didn’t want anything done until she died.'"

Preorders for the new book as well as purchases of "Mockingbird" shot to the top five books of Amazon soon after the announcement.

i'm still kinda skeptical over this, to be honest. but at the same time i'm pretty excited for the new book
