Elle U.K. editor-in-chief defends Kim Kardashian

Snagging the cover for ELLE U.K.'s January 2015 issue, Kim Kardashian has no signs of slowing down her hustle for more fame. There have been numerous criticisms about why she was picked for the cover, yet the magazine didn't back down and went with it. In a new blogpost, ELLE U.K. editor-in-chief Lorraine Candy defends Kim Kardashian and why she was the perfect choice to helm their 'Confidence Issue'.

"For me, confidence is about finding your voice and making it heard. This is not about shouting louder, or indeed judging those women who feel the need to do so; it's about finding out how to persuade yourself you can achieve whatever you want to. [...] If you have found your confidence, it is important you support other women as they find theirs. As we put this Confidence Issue together and news of Kim Kardashian West's place on its cover was leaked, I noted some people questioning our choice, querying Kim's credentials as a successful woman and ours as a feminist magazine. I wish women would not judge other women in this critical way. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but for me, Kim's success should be applauded, not sneered at or, indeed, denigrated. She is the perfect face for an issue devoted to self-belief. She has built a staggeringly influential business empire and inspired many young women to be more confident about their bodies. And let us remember, no one woman can embody all the hopes, beliefs and ideals of everywoman."

"It would be great to recognize the value of what each of us does individually rather than continually comparing ourselves—and then illogically deciding somehow we don't measure up. I think 'if she can do it, I can too' is a better approach, and I hope that when we next carry out a survey on womanhood, we can rely on you to sow the seeds of a revolution in self-belief. How liberating would that feel?"

Joel Edgerton recently talked about how working with Brandybuck Charizard, as they both star in the 2015 movie Black Mass. The 'Warrior' actor was so shocked at how crazy and batshit the lizard alien's fans were.

“Benedict’s a wonderful guy and a wonderful actor, and he’s got this crazy legion of fans out there,” he talked. “There was this one girl who would follow everywhere we were shooting. I would draw the curtain and look down, and there she is again. He’s a bit of a sex symbol, right?”

They're both starring in next year's Black Mass, alongside Johnny Depp, Sienna Miller, and Dakota Johnson. The film will premiere on September 15, 2015.

Chris Evans'"Before We Go" Racist Move Screening Process

ERm Research, The Marketing Agency associated with Chris Evans' film Before We Go and responsible for selecting viewers for his exclusive free movie screening was caught turning away minorities while simultaneously inviting white applicants (and their guests) in. "The current racial climate in this country is boiling hot. You would think, at least in NYC (especially after the Eric Garner case), companies would steer clear of anything that could be perceived racially insensitive at all costs," said Kadia Blagrove, a black woman who posed as a white woman and was invited just minutes after her black friend, Aramis Grant, was turned away as representatives insisted the screening was full.

"We did a little experiment. I called and acted as a white woman to see if I would be able to RSVP or “qualify,” as ERm Research calls it. Aramis called the agency around noon. I made sure to call 10-15 minutes later. After all, if the RSVP was closed that early, there’s no way I’d be able to get through." She did, and describes what she saw in terms of demographics upon arriving at the screening and her later phone call with reps of the agency who did a terrible job justifying themselves ("We just do what we're told! I don't understand the process either! etc.")

Estately Blog published a very interesting list of the searches each state made more of than any other state. There are, alas, not the top searches. But still pretty significant, especially if you considering relocating. Anyway, we can conclude that New Mexico is obsessed with zombies and Montana with guns, Macaulay Culkin is still relevant in Michigan while Emma Watson is pretty popular in Utah, Oregon is concerned with European politics, meanwhile New York has yet to grasp the concept of selfies, and Texas is full of conspiracy theorists or very concerned citizens.

Russell Crowe Thinks That Hollywood Actresses Need to Act Their Age

"To be honest, I think you'll find that the woman who is saying that [the good roles for women have dried up is] the woman who at 40, 45, 48, still wants to play the ingénue, and can't understand why she's not being cast as the 21-year-old," the dumbass star said of the common complaint of older Hollywood actresses.

Crowe continued, "Meryl Streep will give you 10,000 examples and arguments as to why that's bulls--t, so will Helen Mirren, or whoever it happens to be. If you are willing to live in your own skin, you can work as an actor. If you are trying to pretend that you're still the young buck when you’re my age, it just doesn't work."

Victoria Justice covers Seventeen Magazine

Quotes:

On her new show Eye Candy:
“It’s a very sexy thriller-drama. Victorious was musical singing, happy times, and colorful, and this show is the polar opposite, which is 100 percent why I was drawn to it. I do have a little bit of a dark side. I’m not this, like, queen of darkness, but it’s exciting to be in a darker world—dark characters don’t scare me.”

On being assertive:
“During my teenage years, I definitely learned to become more assertive. I feel like young people can sometimes be scared or intimidated by people in power or someone older than they are, but you can’t be afraid to speak up for yourself and speak your mind. Being able to take charge of situations and push through those difficult times is what helps you grow.”

On her boyfriend, actor Pierson Fodé:
“It all comes down to chemistry—it’s either there or it’s not. And relationships are not always easy. I’m currently in a relationship [with actor Pierson Fodé], and he’s in L.A., so it’s important to find ways to stay connected—even just playing Words With Friends and Skyping when you can. When you’re young, not every relationship is going to work out. You’re going to go through breakups, and you’re probably going to have your heart broken. It’s important to remember that just because someone breaks up with you, it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you. All relationships are a learning curve.”

The cyber attack over the Thanksgiving week left Sony's computers and landlines out of commission. This forced employees to improvise with cellphones, personal email accounts, notepads and old payroll machines to cut paychecks.

One of the methods they used was using an old "cache of BlackBerrys" that operate using their own server (BES).

Sony is still scrambling to protect their data while the hackers are being investigated. The prime suspect is a group of hackers working for North Korea with one of the suspects being a former Sony employee

World Animal Protection reports that elephant riding companies like the one Beyoncé patronized capture baby elephants from the wild -- where the population is already threatened -- and then break them by tying them down, beating them, and scaring the shit out of them (watch a video of the process here, but be forewarned: it's very upsetting to watch). There are also reportedly ties between elephant tourism and government corruption in Thailand.
