Breaking Belle Knox

0
0

It has barely been a year since Duke student Miriam Weeks has been exposed as porn actress Belle Knox.

Becoming Belle Knox is a five part documentary web series of five minute snippets revealing the toll the industry has taken over the 19 year old. Here we witness the small joys she finds as Belle Knox, but Miriam's search for connection with others is just as telling.

The content in the following videos may be sensitive for viewers. Self-harm(shown), sexual coercion and sexual assault are mentioned.

Knowing When to Quit Porn

I thought I was sick of hearing about her, but this series is well done and I think this is the most sincere glimpses we've had of Knox/Miriam and her experiences. It would be interesting to see where she goes from this in 10 years.

At the premiere of his highly anticipated new DirecTV series Kingdom Wednesday night, the super-sexy 22-year-old singer opened up about stripping down and getting naked for some gritty sex scenes in the show. "I did just about everything in the show but frontal," the hunky actor told E! News exclusively, adding, "So you'll see pretty much every angle of me. Yeah, it's a lot!"
But would Jonas ever let it all hang out by doing full-frontal nudity in front of the camera?!
"Never say never," he dished. "If the art required it and it was a role I felt really committed to and like I had to go there with it, I would do whatever it takes to tell the story."

Tyra Drags Homophobic Contestant on Top Model

0

Will overhears Denzel and Keith engaging in some homophobic nonsense. Denzel complains to Keith that he would be embarrassed to be sent home by a guy who wears heels —and whines about being perceived as gay because he’s involved in fashion.

Will is understandably upset about the incident and finds unexpected comfort in Adam, who finally comes clean about an incident in college. Adam was found out to have done a bit of gay-bashing in his past. And while his version of events differ from what was reported, his apologies to Will (and by extrapolation the entire gay community) seems sincere. He also gives Will a back-rub.

The argument reaches a climax at judging when Will shows up in six-inch patent leather heels. Tyra inquires about this bold sartorial decision, leading to a confrontation between Will and Denzel.

For perhaps the first time in this show’s 21 cycle run Tyra Banks is the voice of reason: “Who gives a fuck?! I want to take you back 50 years. Imagine you overhear Will say ‘I hope that Denzel guy doesn’t win, because if a black guy wins, my friends at home are going to say I’m in some [censored].”

‘Outlander’ Round-Up: Diana Gabaldon’s Novel on Best-seller Lists Again & More!

0
0

Diana Gabaldon’s genre-bending series, “Outlander,” was a hit well before there was a TV series based on the books. The eight novels, which center on a time-traveling British nurse who falls in love with a Scottish warrior, have more than 25 million copies in print and are published in about 40 countries.

But a TV show can turn a best-selling series into a blockbuster (just ask George R. R. Martin). When “Outlander” had its premiere on Starz in August, the first novel hit No. 1 on the best-seller list for the first time, 23 years after it was published. New readers apparently became hooked: The next three books in the series have also reappeared on best-seller lists.

Ms. Gabaldon recently signed a multimillion-dollar book deal for the ninth novel in the series, with Ballantine Bantam Dell. Ms. Gabaldon’s literary agent, Russell Galen, said he waited more than a year to negotiate her new contract so that he could leverage the increased interest from the TV show. Mr. Galen wouldn’t disclose the exact amount of the deal, but said that the novel sold for more than $6 million — more than twice the amount Ms. Gabaldon received for Book 8, in 2010.

For Starz, developing a show with a rabid, built-in fan base held obvious appeal, and the network courted Ms. Gabaldon’s readers from the start. Last fall at New York Comic Con, the network showed the early production stills and artists’ sketches of the characters to a focus group of 200 Outlander fans. Before the show began, Starz put the first episode up for free sampling on YouTube and other sites for a week, drawing some 1.4 million viewers. The show, which will resume in April, has drawn largely positive reviews. (Buzzfeed called it “the feminist answer to ‘Game of Thrones.’ ”)

The first season of “Outlander” on Starz averaged five million viewers an episode, including people who watched the show on demand. Starz has ordered a second season based on “Dragonfly in Amber,” Book 2 in the series.

Ms. Gabaldon, who works as a consultant on the show, said she never planned to write more than one book.

“I wrote ‘Outlander’ for practice, never intending to show it to anyone, because I just wanted to learn how to write a novel,” she said. At the time, Ms. Gabaldon, who has a Ph.D. in quantitative behavioral ecology, was a researcher at Arizona State University. She decided to set the novel in the past so that she could draw on historical events.

“I decided, if it turns out that I have no imagination, I can steal things from history,” she said. “It worked out pretty well.”

MØ On Avoiding Perfection and Linking Up With Diplo

The Danish singer talks about growing up punk and transitioning into pop

Danish singer Karen Marie Ørsted isn't coy about her broad view pop. It trickles down from all of her favorite music: She's romantic about Sonic Youth, citing Thurston and Kim as the ultimate lovelorn couple, and looked to the Spice Girls as the feminist girl-squad icons of her youth. After her 2011 release of "Glass," a snarky, anthemic song laced with sex-craved nostalgia, Ørsted found herself working alongside Avicii ("Dear Boy") and Diplo ("XXX 88").

Where does the name MØ come from?
It means to be a female child; a pure, unspoiled little girl. I think a straight translation is kind of like "a virgin" but this is more a reference to being pure and young.

It's not about being chaste.
No, it's much more about a kind of innocence.

The title of your album No Mythologies To Follow feels like it comes from a similar aesthetic idea.
Yeah, it's obviously about being young and lost and confused and trying to find your own path in the world. It's a rejection of others' ideas. Social media and the media are telling you what to look like and how you should be and it's horrifying to be perfect. Everyone tries to be perfect and that can really mess with your brain, especially when you're young and insecure. I want to say that we have no real guiding line, we have to find our own way. Nothing can be perfect.

Is that something that translates to your music? Are you satisfied with it when it's done?
The thing is that the times in my life where I've tried to be perfect, I've failed miserably. So I know that perfection is not an option for me. There are some things that I'm very specific about. Small things; when it comes to being honest or conveying something honestly, I strive for perfection in that. When I am doing the vocals, I want to be able to hear what I was feeling while I was recording it later as it is playing back. A feeling can never be perfect and recreating a feeling can never be perfect. It's a moment and that's what you want to show with your music. That's where I become very focused on catching something that's perfect.

When you say you tried to be perfect and failed in the past, what were you referring to exactly? Anything specific?
It's like when you try to overdo something and you lose what's real about it in the process. It's like when you're so in love with a guy and you'd do anything to get him — that's when you won't get him. It's about striving to be something you're not. That's when you'll kill yourself because you lose yourself in that process.

You've worked with other producers as well, right? How did you get involved with Diplo?
It all started because of a tweet, actually. I did a video for a DIY magazine in the U.K. and one of the questions that they asked me was who my dream collaboration would be with. I said Major Lazer. So some guy tweeted at Diplo and said, "Please make this happen!" Diplo wrote him back and said, "I love her!" So me and my manager contacted him and we were so excited that he wanted to work on some music.

The Creator Of Chucky Wants To Team Him Up With Annabelle!

Could there be a doll power team between serial-killing Chucky and newcomer Annabelle?

Don Mancini, who has dominated the freaky doll market for 30 years as the creator of Chucky'sChild's Play franchise, thinks so.

"I am hoping that at some future point we have Annabelle and Chucky team up," says Mancini. "I can see that (even) in 20 years from now." There might even be a cameo for Annabelle in the seventh Child's Play film, which Mancini is writing now.

"We would be into it, the only problem is that we are in different studios. That would probably be years worth of red tape to work it out," says Mancini. "But if it all could be worked out, then yes."

There is even a power connection. Annabelle director John Leonetti was the director of photography for 1991's Child's Play 3.

In the meantime, Mancini vowed to be one of the first to see Annabelle, even just to inspect her fighting style. "From the trailer, Annabelle is playing her fighting cards close to her chest," says Mancini. "From what I see, her fighting style is very subtle. I want to know if she has some secret moves."

Katy Perry Fires Back at NFL: "I'm Not the Type of Girl to Pay to Play"

Katy Perry has fired back at the NFL over its “pay to play” request for potential Super Bowl Halftime performers.

“We had some conversations and i would be honored of course but... i have let them know that I'm not the type of girl that would pay to play the Super Bowl so... the ball is in their field” Perry said during an appearance Saturday morning on ESPN's “College Game Day.”

A report in The Wall Street Journal this past August said the NFL had asked Perry as well as Coldplay and Rihanna if they'd be willing to offer a percentage of their future tour earnings or “some other type of financial contribution” to perform at the big game in February.

The theory is that the exposure is so great, that artists should pay for some of it.

At the time, the league would neither confirm nor deny the allegations. ”Our only goal with the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show is to put on the best show for the millions of fans who watch,” Joanna Hunter, the NFL's director of corporate communications, told TheWrap. “Our contract arrangements with artists are confidential.”

Rose Leslie Tells Us The Things She Most Misses About Game Of Thrones

0
0

When we met Rose Leslie at her beauty shoot for our November issue, we’d just watched THAT episode of Game of Thrones where Ygritte dies in John Snow’s arms. Sob! We asked her what five things she missed the most now she’s left the hit HBO show.

1. My bow and arrow. I now LOVE archery, I find it a very therapeutic sport. I would be taken away for a couple of hours before we started filming to get back into the rhythm so that it was a fluid movement of picking up the bow and then the arrows and just being able to make it look as authentic as possible.

2. The crew. For three years in a row you’re working for six months of the year with the same cast and crew and producers. We flew into Rekjavic and we travelled for about 8 hours in a car down the southern coast of the island, so we were very much in a remote place. You do get incredibly tight.

3. Iceland. You’re shooting on this beautiful landscape but there is no-one else to be seen. It was wonderful and sensational in that way because there weren’t huge cranes and equipment. I now have a deep love for Iceland because it is associated with such wonderful memories.

4. The writing, that’s definitely up there. I read all the books before I started. And the people at HBO are fantastic.

5. My friends: the actors. Working with my friends day in day out for five months has been a lovely thing. For me though, it’s never really a goodbye, it’s onto the next thing where you’ll meet new people. It’s so interesting to be able to have a job that has that. You never know for how long!

11 Million Adele Fans Can't Be Wrong

0
0
adele2

In the sales tracking week that ends Sunday night, Adele's 21 will top the 11 million mark in U.S. sales. That news is at once not really surprising (the album has been a blockbuster since it was released in 2011) and utterly astounding (in an era when albums are hard-pressed to sell 2 or 3 million copies, how on earth has an album gotten to 11 million?)

There was little reason to think that 21 would become a blockbuster when it was released in February 2011. Adele’s previous album, 19, had been a solid hit, but it hadn’t even sold 1 million copies. (Its sales on the eve of the release of 21: 930K.) Only one of the songs from 19 made Billboard's Hot 100: “Chasing Pavements,” which peaked at #21 (there's that number again!). 19 had, however, brought Adele two Grammys: Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. (In addition, “Chasing Pavements” was nominated for Grammys for Record and Song of the Year.)

21 logged 24 weeks at #1 on The Billboard 200 and spawned three #1 singles: “Rolling In The Deep,” “Someone Like You” and “Set Fire To The Rain.” 21 was the best-selling album of both 2011 and 2012. This marked the first time in Nielsen SoundScan history (which dates to 1991) that an album was the top-seller two years running.

The album’s biggest sales week came in February 2012, when it sold 730K copies in the first full week following the 54th Grammy Awards. Adele won six Grammys that night, including Album, Record and Song of the Year. (The tune-in was greater than usual due in large part to Whitney Houston's shocking death the day before the show.)

Here are the numbers, for you data freaks: 21 topped 1M in U.S. sales in April 2011, 2M that June, 3M that August, 4M that October and 5M that December.

It topped 6M in January 2012, 7M that February, 8M that March, 9M that May and 10M that November.

How can I be so certain that the album will top the 11 million mark this week? The album’s sales stood at 10,999,000 last week, and it is selling about 3K copies a week.

Derulo Discusses Split from Sparks

0
0

The "Wiggle" singer called into "On Air with Ryan Seacrest" on Monday, where he "cleared the air" about his split from the "American Idol" alum.

With tons of rumors floating around the web since news broke of the breakup, the R&B singer wanted to set the record straight about his fallout with Sparks.

"I’m not one to throw my business out on the street, but I thought it was important because things are getting a little out of hand," he told Ryan.

"I’m seeing all kind of stories about somebody getting pregnant, infidelity, things like me calling it off because of me being too busy and because of my newfound success," he continued.

"What happened … in a nutshell, there was a lot of tension in the relationship for a lot of different reasons. Every relationship has ups and downs. There was a lot of pressures of marriage. There was a lot of arguing and stuff like that that just weighed on our relationship over time. When you stop having more good times than bad bad times, it’s time to call it quits. It becomes something that is unhealthy," he explained.

The 25-year-old-- who's dated Jordin for the last three years and even wrote a song for Sparks titled "Marry Me" -- told us earlier this year that the the ballad was supposed to signify his devotion to the "Battlefield" singer, but ended up generating way too much media speculation about their relationship.
