For her latest project, Mother Monster and the 88-year-old, who partnered for “The Lady Is A Tramp” in 2011, reunited to produce their jazzy collaborative album Cheek to Cheek.
“I just was shaking in my boots, really. I tell everyone that I kept a whiskey underneath my stool when I was recording with him in the studio because I was so nervous,” Gaga told On Air with Ryan Seacrest about her experience working with Tony. “I feel so humbled to be doing this project with him. This is, for me, the most important album I’ve ever made.”
Another man Gaga is crazy about — other than her boyfriend of three years Taylor Kinney — is pop-soul singer Sam Smith. Earlier this month, she mentioned the “Stay With Me” singer in a tweet and said she was reduced to tears after reading his emotional fan email.
After Ryan questioned the singer-songwriter about her obsession with the In the Lonely Hour artist, Gaga put her paws up and praised him for his musical caliber.
“He’s just tremendous and, you know, in tuned with what we are doing with Cheek to Cheek. Sam is a true musical artist, a true musician, there’s an organic-ness in his voice and the records that he’s made, and I really feel that this is the turn that music is going to take now,” she said. “After lots of this electronic sound that’s been trendy for awhile, I think everybody is hungry for something that’s more authentic, and more honest, and more human, and that’s why his voice is really connecting with the world. I’m so very happy for him. He really, really deserves all the accolades that he’s getting and I pray that he continues to be himself.”
Gaga and Tony’s Jazz fusion album Cheek to Cheek is now available for download on iTunes.
