Lea Michele reveals she will cover Frozen hit 'Let It Go'

0
0

It was one of the most talked about songs of the year, took home an Oscar, and has been covered countless times.
But that has only encouraged Glee to take a stab at doing a version of Let It Go from Frozen during its upcoming sixth and final season.
Lea Michele hinted that she was going to be performing the hit on Friday, by posting a photo of herself in a ballgown along with some of the well-known lyrics.

The 28-year-old shared the lines: 'I don't care.. What they're going to say.. Let the storm rage on.. The cold never bothered me anyway...'
And after a few days of Lea's teasing, Fox - the network that airs the show - confirmed that Lea would indeed be providing the vocals for Let It Go on Monday, according to Entertainment Weekly.
In early September, the singer was secretive when chatting with E! at the premiere of Sons Of Anarchy about what Disney song she would cover in Glee's final season.

'I was there last night singing the first Disney song we've ever done... A very popular Disney song,' Lea shared with the entertainment site.
When asked by the site if the song was Let It Go, Lea responded: 'I'm not saying anything!'
In the photo she shared on Friday, Lea can be seen clad in an elegant white gown that features a number of floral accents scattered throughout the frock.

Her cleavage was put on display thanks to the dress's sweetheart neckline, as was her narrow waistline.
Lea's hands were clasped behind her back, and she stood in the middle of an empty room with sunlight streaming in from the ceiling.
Let It Go was the recipient of the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2014, and was sung by Idina Menzel, who also portrayed Shelby Corcoran on Glee - the mother of Lea's character.
Glee's final season has recently started filming, and will return to Fox in 2015.

YAAAAASSS I've been wanting to hear Lea Michele take on this song since I first heard it.

Gerard Depardieu drinks 14 bottles of wine a day but claims it doesn't get him drunk

0

Gerard Depardieu is tired of only getting plaudits for his acting — he wants them for his drinking too.

The French movie star, 65, claims he starts tipping drinks back at 10 a.m. and downs “12, 13, 14″ bottles of wine a day in an interview with UK film magazine So Film (via the Daily Mirror).

“When I’m bored, I drink. Apart from compulsory moments of abstinence. After bypass surgery, and also because of cholesterol and stuff, I have to be careful,” the actor said.

“Anyway, I’m not going to die. Not now. I still have energy,” he continued.

Depardieu, who is adamant he “can’t drink like a normal person,” went on to describe his daily drinking in detail:

‘It starts at home with Champagne or red wine, before 10 a.m. Then again Champagne. Then pastis, maybe half a bottle. Then food, accompanied by two bottles of wine. In the afternoon, Champagne, beer, and more pastis at around 5 p.m., to finish off the bottle. Later on vodka and/or whisky.’

But the actor, who stars in the upcoming film about Dominique Strauss-Kahn, “Welcome to New York,” said he’s always able to hold it together, no matter how much alcohol he’s consumed.

“But I’m never totally drunk, just a little pissed. All you need is a 10-minute nap and voilá, a slurp of rosé wine and I feel as fresh as a daisy.”

Police in Paris may disagree with this claim, though. In November 2012, the actor was detained after going on a drunken scooter ride.

Depardieu’s rundown of his prodigious drinking habits wasn’t the only bizarre admission of the interview. The actor also said he once shot two lions while vacationing in Africa.

“I killed two lions once, and I understand why the lion is the king of the jungle. In legitimate self-defense … I wasn’t there for hunting. I was in Africa for Africa,” he said.

Magnolia Pictures acquires "Serena" for early 2015 U.S. release [maybe, possibly, who knows anymore]

0

Despite earning release dates in Europe before the end of the year, the long-lost Jennifer Lawrence/Bradley Cooper movie Serena will not be seen in the U.S. before 2014 is over. Serena was filmed between Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, two Oscar nominated David O. Russell projects. But director Susanne Bier continued working on it and the film was continuously delayed as U.S. distributors lost interest.

However, the project has gained some attention after it earned a spot at the BFI London Film Festival next month and Studio Canal released a trailer last week. With that added interest, indie distributor Magnolia Pictures has finally picked it up. Unfortunately, those expecting a third-straight year of Lawrence and Cooper on the awards circuit together will be disappointed. [lol well the other two weren't deserved either so] Magnolia told The New York Post that it will not be released for this year’s Oscar race. Magnolia has no set date, but we might see it by the first quarter of 2015.

That doesn’t mean that Serena is in good shape. The Hollywood Reporter’s sources say that CAA, which has represented the film, held screenings for three cuts, each of which received complaints from potential distributors. “The film was so edited, it made no sense,” one said, while another complained of Lawrence’s performance. Lawrence stars as the title character, who, along with her husband (Cooper) create a lumber empire in North Carolina during the Great Depression. She becomes a Lady Macbeth-type character who becomes obsessed with keeping the business working. It is based on Ron Rash’s novel.

Oh, ffs. Let's just get this over with. And I s2g if they turn the character into a typical ~crazy jealous wife~ I will burn everything down; it's a great book and her character is a badass HBIC. (Changed the source, mods.)

Mayim Bialik Reveals In a Blog Post She Hates Disney's Frozen -- Find Out Why

0
0

Oh no she didn't! Mayim Bialik posted a blog post on Kveller.com admitting that she hates Disney's widely popular flick Frozen.

Titled "Why My Sons and I Hate the Movie Frozen," the Big Bang Theory star, who also has a Ph.D. in neuroscience, gives three main reasons why she dislikes the film before acknowledging, "I know everybody loved Frozen and that I am going to get so much hate for this. But I’m just keeping it real, yo."

Bialik's first issue with the movie? Aside from the fact that she "doesn't care for musicals really at all," the lack of female agency.

"Sure, it’s sort of hidden, but the search for a man/love/Prince is still the reigning plot line in the movie, as it is with pretty much all movies for young people which are animated," Bialik wrote."The sister’s desire to marry this guy she just met, and the other sister getting mad at her — we still have a plot about the identification of a woman being based on her desire and search to meet a man … I’ve had just enough already with this finding a man business in most every kids’ movie."

While upset with the traditional fairy tale plot of a fallen woman, the mom of two sons, who has made headlines for her unconventional parenting techniques, goes on to explain she thinks the film bashes males.

"What happens in Frozen? The Prince/hero turns out to be a scheming villain," she wrote."He pretended to love her and then he double crosses her and she gets the lesson taught to her not to trust those nasty scheming conniving men. Because you know, men can’t be trusted? Meh," she adds before going on to reveal her "biggest problem with [the] movie," which has to do with the female characters looking like "dolls."

"My biggest problem with this movie was the way the female characters are drawn and animated," the 38-year-old star concluded."The male characters look like cartoon men. They have some exaggerated features, sure. But by and large, they look like they have the proportions of human beings. Not so with our lead ladies. They have ginormous eyes. Like really ridiculously big. Teeny-tiny ski slope noses … Barbie doll proportions of their bodies in general: tiny waists, ample busts, and huge heads. They look like dolls. They don’t look like the same species as the male characters even! What’s up with that?!"

Prior to bashing one of the highest-grossing films of all time, Bialik took a dig at Ariana Grande, writing in another blog post that she doesn't understand why the singer needs to pose in sexy lingerie if "is she has a talent."

Tell Us: What do you think of Bialik's assessment of Frozen?

Deepika Padukone vs. Times of India round 2

0
0
Follow up to this post.

It all started on Sunday, when Deepika Padukone took a stand no one could ignore. The actor strongly reacted to an online report by the Times of India that carried pics of her at an event, purportedly taken from a high camera angle, captioned, ‘OMG: Deepika Padukone’s cleavage show’. In a tweet that has since been retweeted close to 9000 times, an angry Deepika posted, ‘YES! I am a Woman. I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!??” The matter only escalated when the news daily justified its action via its Twitter handle, “It’s a compliment! You look so great that we want to make sure everyone knew! :)”.

While expressing outrage at the pictures and the justification that followed, social media stood by the 28-year-old actor, as the hashtag #IStandByDeepikaPadukone trended on Twitter and people slammed the publication for objectifying women with an example such as this.

However, the publication has come up with an "explanation" for this whole episode. Excerpts as printed in TOI:

So Deepika flaunted her perfect assets and some gawked and gaped, some others drooled and swooned, while some raised eyebrows and friends and feminists went into protest overdrive about the media coverage of it.

In this era of women emancipation, we have forgotten that it should be about equality, not being over-sensitive. We don't go into a hostile frenzy when cameras caress and capture SRK's and Hrithik's perfect six-pack abs. We marvel, we envy and we drool. Why should it be different for a woman? When you are a public figure and you go out to a press event, you are bound to be dissected from your chipped nail polish to your repeated shoes. If admiring and focussing on a woman's assets is a crime, all item numbers should be banned. How fair is it to say, I will dress to tantalise publicly, but you have to look the other way? In your homes, you dress keeping in mind the reactions you will receive from your family, in-laws, husband and neighbours.

For a celebrity, going out in front of the cameras is a responsibility to flaunt only what they want noticed and it's really silly in the name of women's rights to say, "Why did you notice and focus on what I flaunted?" Or, "How dare you give a public appearance media attention!" We react to situations from our point of view. Of course, to us, our point of view is absolutely valid and correct; else we wouldn't be so vehement about it. It's often quoted that one man's meat is another man's poison and that one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. Everything in life is about perspective, and while you are governed by yours, you must keep an open mind about the flipside of the coin. As long as there is no violence or unlawful methods being adopted, everyone is entitled to their point of view. Even if it's top angle!

How we choose to dress doesn’t give someone the right to peddle voyeurism, says Deepika

Deepika tells HT City, “Every girl deserves to be treated with respect ... whether an actor, a dancer or a girl walking into a restaurant. How we choose to dress doesn’t give someone the right to peddle voyeurism, or eve tease or do anything that is disrespectful to a woman.” She also said in an interview to NDTV,“It was unethical for the photographer to click a picture like that. This has nothing to do with being a celebrity or actor. I feel violated as a woman.”

Meanwhile, Bollywood has not just came out strongly in support of the actor, but also driven home the point that the paparazzi should know where to draw the line.

This Avengers 2 Trailer Only Contains Footage From Robert Downey Jr's Other Movie, The Judge

0
0

Earlier this week, Robert Downey Jr teased a a surprise! Naturally, I, like everyone else on the Internet, immediately jumped to the conclusion that we were about to see a trailer for The Avengers 2! Why? Because that’s what we all want, and deep down, we’re all optimists! This reckless optimism was heightened even more when Mark Ruffalo took to his Tumblr to say something was coming!

Mark Ruffalo surprise + Robert Downey Jr surprise = Avengers 2 trailer. Obviously. Never a doubt in my mind.

Well, that trailer for Avengers 2 just dropped, and while it’s undeniably awesome, it contains a lot of footage of Robert Downey Jr in his other new movie, The Judge. In fact, now that I think about it, the entire Avengers 2 trailer seems to only be one long extended look at Robert Downey Jr in The Judge. There's not a single frame of Avengers: Age Of Ultron footage to be found. There's no Thor. There's no Captain America. There's not even Black Widow or Maria Hill. It's just all courtroom intrigue and careful dialogue from The Judge. Check it out…

See what I mean? It almost feels like this Avengers 2 trailer isn’t even for Avengers 2 at all. Instead, it feels like this might be a pretty badass piece of marketing for The Judge, and we were all just straight up wrong about Avengers: Age Of Ultron footage coming today. Is that possible? Could it be that we were all hopped up on Marvel excitement and got hoisted by our own petards? I think yes. I would even go so far as to say I'm sure of it.

The Judge stars Robert Downey Jr and Robert Duvall. The former plays a successful attorney. The later plays a judge who finds himself in the middle of an increasingly strange murder trial. The film first dropped at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year, and judging by crowd reaction, it actually went over pretty well. It’ll hit theaters on October 10, and while it won’t be seen by as many people as Avengers 2, it should get a fairly sizeable number of people to show up. After all, careful legal dramas aren’t exactly superhero flicks, but the world is still very much into Tony Stark.

SOURCE
So I guess everyone who said that Avengers 2 was going to be the Tony Stark Show was right and even about his time as a lawyer too none the less, smh.

Kanye's latest rant was silly, but it made good points

0
0

Kanye West, famed American rapper and husband of Kim Kardashian, gave quite the speech right in the middle of his concert in Brisbane, Australia, Monday night. Media reports that he had demanded that a concert-goer in a wheelchair stand up at a previous show had stirred his ire.

West is known for his legendary rants, and this one is full of gems. The gist of it is that West is a "married Christian man with a family," and that he should, therefore, be left alone, even though he is one of the world's biggest celebrities. In the course of the five-minute rant, though, West preaches some truth.

Here are five four things Kanye West knows that you might not:

1) There was no actual "wheelchair incident"

The whole reason West felt he needed to go on this tirade is because he felt he was being misrepresented in the media. This weekend, several media outlets reported that West "demanded" that handicapped audience members stand up to listen to his music at his concert in Sydney. The story spiraled out of control, with some claiming that West sent his bodyguard into the crowd to force people to stand. This story spread mostly because Kanye West is a huge egomaniac, which made it seem vaguely believable. The man did name his last album Yeezus, after all.

As shown in the video of the event, however, West did, indeed, pause the song to get people to stand up. But once he realized the fan in question was in a wheelchair, he simply returned to the song.

3) Being offensive is actually his brand

Kanye West is one of most quotable rappers out there (don't forget that he calls himself a "blowfish"), but he's also a damn good rapper, partly because he is offensive. And he's nothing if not self-aware about it.

"Don't I say offensive shit here and there, like, so wait a second, that's my brand!" West said during his speech. He added this caveat: "What I'm sayin' is, you've got like 12 years that we put in positive music. How many people ever heard one of my songs on their way to work — they heard it, and it made them feel better?"

Got that? Kanye West's raps make people feel better.

4) What "Ben Affleck statements" are

Making fun of Ben Affleck was pretty funny three years ago, but Kanye is still throwing shade. He said, "[If you]make the decision to pick one woman and raise a family, anyone here that's married or that's in a relationship knows that there's enough things workin' against you. I'm not going to make one of them Ben Affleck statements and shit."

It seems likely he's referencing Affleck's 2013 Oscar acceptance speech for the film Argo, in which Affleck told his wife Jennifer Garner that their marriage is "work" but that there's no one he'd rather work with
. Did you remember this happened? No? Kanye West did.

5) Violence in America is an important story

About a minute into his rant, West pauses to call out media outlets, saying:

"I want you to run that, right, since this is such big media-press-news and everything that obviously they trying to demonize me for. It's like, ‘Welcome to today's news, ladies and gentlemen.' We've got Americans getting killed on TV, kids getting killed every weekend in Chicago, unarmed people getting killed by police officers ..."

Kanye knows that violence in America is a massive issue. Gun violence. Black-on-black violence. White-on-white violence. Violence against women.

When West talks about "unarmed people getting killed by police officers," he's referencing the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, last month, and his point is well taken. Should Ferguson and stories like it be more important than something Kanye West supposedly said at a concert? Almost certainly.

Avril Lavigne and Husband Chad Kroeger are 'Headed for a Split' After 14 Months of Marriage?

0
0

Avril Lavigne and husband Chad Kroeger are reportedly 'headed for a split' after just 14 months of marriage.

'It's over,' a source said in the September 29 edition of Us Weekly. 'He has been going around L.A. and telling people that they're divorcing.' On August 30, the 29-year-old pop-punk diva wasn't wearing her wedding ring as she left the Chateau Marmont with gal pals.

'Wow. I love my hubby!' And after gushing over the 17-carat diamond ring her 39-year-old beau bought her for their anniversary in July, Avril mysteriously deleted her tweet.

'Chad is just a complete jerk in the way he talks to her': The rocking lovebirds - who have a combined net worth of $105 million - are now mostly missing from each other's Twitter and Instagram feeds. However, a third source was more optimistic: 'There's no concrete timeline for divorce right now.

Avril and the Nickelback frontman tied the knot before 110 guests at the Château de la Napoule on the French Riviera following an 11-month engagement.

'A lot of her friends don't like him': The Canadian crooners famously got engaged one month after recording the eight-time Grammy nominee's aptly-titled duet, Let Me Go.

Last November, the Hello Kitty songstress boasted how they never go 'more than two weeks without seeing each other.''And we don't drink when we're apart,' Chad added to People magazine. 'We don't want to go anywhere that you're asking for trouble. This is something we want to cherish and protect.' The blonde beauty split with reality star Brody Jenner in 2012 after two years, and she divorced Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley in 2010 after a four-year marriage.

Neither Lavigne nor Kroeger's six-time Grammy-nominated band have any upcoming concert dates scheduled. But Avril has been asking her 16.8 million Twitter followers to donate to the Special Olympics in honor of her 30th birthday next week.

Apple's iOS 8: New mobile operating system now available

Apple's new mobile operating system iOS 8 is now available for iPhone and iPad users to download.

The computer maker released iOS 8 at 1 p.m. ET, the "traditional time of its mobile operating system upgrade launches," Computerworld reported on its website.

Apple users will find iOS 8 offers features that address long-standing complaints, but also pave the way for more streamlined use of all their other Apple devices.

"With iOS 8 comes new notifications," says CNET's Bridget Carey. "You can respond to events, reply to messages, and interact with alerts right from the lock screen and drop down menu.

"Double-tapping the home button shows your recent apps, but now it'll also have shortcuts to the people you've spoken to most recently with icons of their faces across the top of the screen, and you'll tap their face to quickly call or message them."

As well, if you have a model with a fingerprint scanner, like the new iPhone 6 or the 5s, the touch ID security system can be used by other applications.

"This is probably the biggest change to the operating system since the introduction of the App Store," says Neil Bearse, director of marketing at the Queen's School of Business in Kingston, Ont.

Bearse says the biggest overarching change iOS 8 offers "is the degree of freedom that Apple has given not just third-party developers to build more sophisticated apps, but also the ability for users to customize things like installing third-party keyboards."

Katie Holmes calls the everlasting fan love for “Dawson’s Creek” “hugely flattering” in an exclusive interview with Gossip Cop.
Asked about the series’ enduring legacy, Holmes tells Gossip Cop, “I think that show touched a certain generation.”
“It was innocent at a time when innocence was very valued and present,” says the actress. “But it had that teen angst that really revealed what everybody was going through.”
Rumors of a reunion pop up periodically, but all have proven false so far.
So, why does everyone want to see the “Creek” crew back together?
“Maybe we all want to feel those feelings again,” theorizes a humble Holmes. “I don’t know. Maybe that’s why they want a reunion.”
She further tells Gossip Cop, “It’s hugely flattering. We had a great time working on it.”
The WB teen drama, which went off the air more than 10 years ago, will no longer be available for streaming on Netflix, starting this Friday.

Outlander Wedding Sneak Peek: Say Aye to the Dress

Starz has been doing a bang-up job of giving us preview videos for each episode, and I know you’re all more than ready for some sweet Jamie after last week’s brutal episode. I’d love to tell you all about it, but I haven’t stopped drooling in the last hour, and things are getting a bit messy. So what I can tell you – I’ve heard a lot of speculation about what they will or won’t include in the episode – dinna fash! Even if you fash through the episode waiting and waiting for a certain line or action, it will all turn out right in the end. And just so you don’t fash, no, that’s not Claire’s wedding dress in the picture above, and no, those aren’t Ellen’s pearls she’s wearing – it’s a ribbon.

What can I tell you without telling you anything that would be spoilerish? Rupert is cute. Angus is a pig. Murtagh is great. Dougal is… well, it’s a good thing there’s not a chair handy for Claire. And Jamie is – gallant, tender, sweet, and SMOKIN’ HOT. OK, I have to go now and watch again.

But before I do – check out this little feature on the Outlander costumes, featuring Terry Dresbach (sorry, I wasn’t able to embed that in the post). And if you haven’t seen it already (and where have you been, under a standing stone?), here’s the episode preview.

Janet Jackson Should Be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

0
0

So what if the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a bunch o' hooey? People still care about its inductees, and it's perhaps the highest achievement a musician can have on his resume.

Or her resume. Of course, the Hall is very light on women, not to mention women of color.

But there's always a chance to get it right when it comes to Janet Jackson, whose career as a trend-setter and hitmaker should speak for itself.

Here's the shocking thing: Despite being eligible since 2007, she has never even been nominated. Never mind that her brother Michael is in there. (Twice, in fact, including once with the Jackson Five.) Janet has been a force to be reckoned with in her own right, for decades.

She has sold more than 25 million albums, making her, by the RIAA's count, the 11th best-selling female artist in history. She had seven songs make Billboard's top five on a single album, the glorious 1989 work Rhythm Nation: 1814.

During the '80s and '90s, she set a standard when it came to smooth vocals and artful songs, videos, and choreography. Artists like Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Usher have all borrowed from her heavily.

Since her early masterwork, 1986's Control, she has shown an ability and willingness to incorporate serious issues into her oft-funky songs. She is a rare pop artist to use her platform to touch on topics including feminism, social injustice, same-sex relationships, AIDS awareness, homophobia, and domestic violence.

So what's the deal? Why has she not gotten her due?

We suspect it all comes down to her "wardrobe malfunction" at the 2004 Super Bowl. Who knows what really happened, but all we know is that, for some reason, American society got all prudish for a minute. For some reason everyone long ago gave Timberlake a pass, but Jackson has never recovered.

It's ridiculous, as ridiculous as Janet never being nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The voters should right that wrong this time around. In fact, they should induct her. It would be long overdue.
