BBUK 2014: Who was evicted in the Double Eviction?

Who was evicted?

Mark (Finished 8th)

Winston (Finished 7th)

They were both shocked by their evictions

Mark Byron and Winston Showan have been evicted from the Big Brother house.

First up, eyebrow 'expert' Mark was evicted from the Channel 5 reality show to deafening boos and continued to be booed while he was being interviewed by host Emma Willis.

He discussed everything from his relationship with on and off love interest Christopher Hall, his behaviour towards Chris Hall and his friendship with former escort Helen Wood.

Then when he was told that another housemate would be evicted, he said he was gutted because he wanted a 'night to himself'.

The second housemate to leave the house was sometime EastEnders extra Winston Showan.

"He's not going," screamed Helen Wood as if she was Big Brother's answer to Jessica Fletcher, with the other housemates eagerly agreeing.

But, alas, it stuck and so Winston became the twelfth housemate to be evicted from this year's competition

It's a boy! Christina Ricci recently welcomed her first child, a baby boy, with husband James Heerdegen, sources confirm exclusively to Us Weekly.

The former child actress, now 34, first sparked pregnancy speculation in late May when she stepped out at LAX airport in Los Angeles with a tell-tale baby bump, confirming the news via publicist shortly thereafter.

The new parents couldn't be more excited about welcoming their little bundle of joy. "They are thrilled and ready for a change of pace," a pal told Us at the time.

The couple, who first met on the ABC series Pan Am in 2011, tied the knot on the Upper East Side in New York City in October 2013. Us exclusively broke the news of the intimate nuptials, where the duo were feted by close family and friends at the Harold Pratt House and Peterson Hall.

"I love so many things about him," the Addams Family and Mermaids actress gushed to Us of Heerdegen back in May 2013. "He's my favorite person on Earth," she said, adding at the time that she "absolutely" wanted kids. "I can't wait to have our own little world replete with small beings!"

Ricci's rep did not respond to requests for comment.

RDJ Says Ultron Is Marvel's Best Villain. Will 'Age of Ultron' Solve Marvel's Villain Problem?

The Avengers and the rest of the Marvel movie universe haven’t quite faced off against the biggest, baddest villain in Thanos yet. However, the upcoming Age of Ultron film does pit Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk and the rest of the Avengers team against one of their more formidable opponents from the comic books. Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark) sounded off on what he thinks of Ultron as a bad guy in an interview released Friday.

“These are about as high as they’ve been,” Downey Jr. said when asked about the stakes in Avengers 2, as captured by io9. “But the nice thing in Age of Ultron what Joss Whedon has done exceptionally well — I’ve never really seen it done like this before — [is that this movie] really is a Swiss Watch of character and action and stakes. It’s easily the best bad guy plot I’ve ever read in a script, let alone gone out and shot.”

Downey Jr. also provided another clue when asked how letting a smart artificial intelligence loose in the real world might play out. “Well, it could be the Singularity or it could be ‘Terminator 9.’ It’s a big question mark. And fortunately that’s addressed in this,” Downey Jr. explained. He then jokingly added, “All your questions about existence will be addressed.”

Just to be clear: I absolutely love Guardians of the Galaxy. It just may be my favorite Marvel movie so far. But even though the film is terrific, it continues the disappointing trend of one of Marvel’s biggest weaknesses when it comes to their films: it has a weak villain. This movie actually has two of them, and one of them – and this might surprise some of you – is named Thanos.

“Thanos?” you might gasp, “but he’s the guy from the stinger at the end of The Avengers! The baddest mother-effer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! He can’t be a disappointing villain because Guardians will be the first time we see him for more than five seconds on screen!” Well, you’d be right about the fact that this is the first time we see more than a smirk from the character, but here’s the problem: Thanos doesn’t actually do anything in Guardians of the Galaxy. He sits on his throne, threatens a couple of people, and demands that Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) do what he commands, but there’s nothing there (aside from his large build) that proves to the audience he’s a credible threat.

I understand that Thanos has a ton of history as a major villain in the comics, but I’m talking about the character as portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Why do we care about this guy again? Guardians finally spells out what many comic fans have suspected for a long time: that Thanos wants the Infinity Gauntlet. And even though the film gives us a great sense of the sheer power of only one of the Infinity stones/gems - allowing us to extrapolate the idea that if one guy got his hands on all of them, it would be…well, pretty bad - there’s still no sense of character to Thanos. Audiences still don’t have any real idea who Thanos is or why it would be so terrible if he ended up with the Gauntlet compared to any other giant weirdo in the galaxy. Guardians is a movie that does a great job of building characters and making you care about the film’s heroes, but one of the areas it stumbles is in creating that same sense of motivation for the villains.

Lee Pace’s Ronan the Accuser looks threatening and dangerous, but much like Malekith from Thor: The Dark World, he’s forgettable and bland. In fact, aside from Iron Man 3‘s clever bait-and-switch with Ben Kingsley’s The Mandarin/Trevor Slattery and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, I don’t think there’s a single Marvel villain who has proven to be as captivating as its film’s hero(es). Let’s run through the list, shall we?

Jeff Bridges’ Obadiah Stane from Iron Man
Tim Roth’s Emil Blonsky from The Incredible Hulk
Mickey Rourke’s Ivan Vanko from Iron Man 2
Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer from Iron Man 2
Hugo Weaving’s Red Skull from Captain America: The First Avenger
Guy Pearce’s Aldrich Killian from Iron Man 3
Christopher Eccleston’s Malekith from Thor: The Dark World
Robert Redford’s Alexander Pierce from Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Look at those names and see if you’d call any of those characters “iconic,” or even just “memorable” a few months after seeing the movie. I wouldn’t. Bucky Barnes in The Winter Soldier is a bit closer to what I hope for in a villain because at least he provides a sense that our heroes are legitimately outmatched, and even Karen Gillan in Guardians has a cool sense of menace that she backs up with action, but the rest of these jokers? Not in the least.

James Spader’s Ultron sounds like he’s going to be a formidable force that gives the Avengers some serious trouble, but I had my fingers crossed that we’d see Thanos really exert some power in Guardians that would make us fear him in the background of all of the Phase Three films until the inevitable battle between good and evil.
But sadly, we’re just told that he’s a badass instead of shown. After last year’s Comic-Con presentation, in which Hiddleston showed up in costume as Loki, I’ll admit I was suffering from a bit of weariness when it came to that character. But if what we get instead is an angry guy holding an oversized hammer and a big purple dude talking on a throne, I’ll take Loki back any day of the week.

Joshua Morrow and Hunter King Welcome Gina Tognoni To The Young & The Restless!

Monday, August 11th is a big day for fans of The Young and the Restless when two-time Daytime Emmy winner Gina Tognoni makes her debut as Phyllis Summers.

When the story starts, Phyllis will still be in her coma. Question is: with Victor’s help … will Phyllis spring to life sooner than later?

The Young and the Restless brought out the cast welcome wagon for Gina in this new video from CBS.com, where Joshua Morrow (Nick) and Hunter King (Summer) chitchat with Gina!

During the clip, Gina gives Joshua a hard time for learning that Nick is now back with Sharon! Gina also says that Phyllis’ first concern when she wakes up will be the well-being and what is happening with her daughter Summer.

Meredith Baxter Is Joining The Cast Of The Young & The Restless!!

Hmmm...wonder if she'll have any family ties? TV Guide Magazine can exclusively confirm that TV icon Meredith Baxter is heading to daytime's No. 1 soap, The Young and the Restless.

The juicy gig will have her character, Maureen, kicking back a few cocktails — make that lots of cocktails — with troubled socialite Nikki Newman.

According to a rep for the CBS soap, Maureen is a "charming, intelligent, middle-class woman who has always aspired to a more privileged life than she's had. She appears kind and sympathetic, but can be quite manipulative. She is skilled at getting people to do the things she wants them to do by making them think it's their idea!"

Adds the rep: "When not hitting the sauce with her new drinking-buddy, Nikki, Maureen will be crossing with several key players on the Y&R canvas."

A member of sitcom royalty, Baxter starred from 1982 to 1989 as mom Elyse Keaton on Family Ties. She earned two Emmy nods in the landmark '70s series Family, and a third for the 1992 movie A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story. She took home a Daytime Emmy for the 1993 CBS Schoolbreak Special Other Mothers.

Baxter's most recent TV appearances include Family Guy, Switched at Birth, The Neighbors, Glee and Finding Carter.

Oh, and if you haven't read her terrific 2011 memoir Untied, do.

Baxter will hit Y&R on Monday, Sept. 8 and will be prominent throughout the fall because, word is, boozy Maureen has connections in town!

Battle of the Blondes on The Young and the Restless!

Honeymoon for three? On CBS's The Young and the Restless, hotshot attorney Christine (Lauralee Bell) has been in a tizzy since learning that her hubby Paul (Doug Davidson) and his pal Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) created a child decades ago when they were members of a hippie love cult.

This bizarre development — news to everyone in Genoa City, including the parents — has really bonded Paul and Nikki, to the point where he now seems hesitant to go through with plans to have a baby with Christine.

What's worse, that damn drama queen Nikki won't go away! On Aug. 8, she's so emotionally distraught she intrudes on Christine and Paul's long-delayed honeymoon. TV Guide Magazine went to lunch with the three stars to find out where this divine mess is headed.

TV Guide Magazine: Chris is going bat-crap crazy over Nikki these days, but is she really being rational? Isn't her reaction just a bit over the top?
Lauralee Bell: Chris feels like she's lost control of her life. First, Nikki was right there with them in the hospital, in the I.C.U., when Paul could have been minutes from death — a very private moment. Why did she have to share it with Nikki?
Melody Thomas Scott: It was extremely inappropriate for Nikki to be there!
Doug Davidson: Of course, Chris left the hospital when Paul was fighting for his life to go have dinner at the Athletic Club.
Bell: Hey, wait a minute. She left him in the room with a priest!
Davidson: [Laughs] Yeah, a priest who was giving Paul the second-to-last rites!

TV Guide Magazine: Paul and Nikki's love child, Dylan, is now a grown-ass man. How can he be a threat to Chris and Paul's happiness?
Bell: Chris has no idea how to fight this. Nikki and Paul now have something in common that Chris and Paul may never have, and that's a major issue. It trumps everything. And it doesn't stop. Now, Nikki somehow finds her way up to the mountains while they're having a belated honeymoon. And she stays! [Laughs] At one point, Chris walks in and sees them cozily working together on a jigsaw puzzle, which I'm sure the viewers will find hilarious. But Chris is pissed. The history Paul and Nikki share is a tough thing to compete with.

TV Guide Magazine: But how does this ruin their baby plans? It's not like Paul will be too busy diapering Dylan.
Bell: This could mean a delay and, when Chris decides to do something, she's ready...now! I don't think she's worried that Paul will leave her but, when he says, "Why don't we wait a bit?" her confidence is shot. Why should she wait for a baby? In her mind, everything has changed in a heartbeat. And she's freaking out about the future. Now, when there's a family gathering, do we have to invite Dylan? Do we have to invite Nikki? It used to be so simple.

TV Guide Magazine: Mel, what's your take on this? Is Nikki trying to move in on Chris's man, or is she just being...well, Nikki?
Thomas Scott: Nikki is always a wild card, though she's not consciously trying to steal Paul, at least according to anything I've seen in the scripts so far. Not at all! Nikki has no idea her behavior is inappropriate. She's always been a bull in a china shop — completely clueless to the damage she's doing.

TV Guide Magazine: And what's Paul thinking here?
Davidson: For him, it's like looking back at an old high school romance and wondering, "What if it had worked out?" A lot of people have that fantasy. "What if I had been more bold? What if I had pursued that relationship?" Nikki and Paul already share a long history. Now, suddenly, they share a son. What do Paul and Chris have when it gets right down to it? Careers.

TV Guide Magazine: Does any of Chris' emotional chaos spring from the fact that she and Paul got remarried out of the blue — at Kay Chancellor's memorial service, of all places. This revived relationship has never felt all that solid.
Bell: I think the remarriage made a lot of sense. We just didn't see a lot leading up to it, but we'd already played that out with the first marriage. Sure, there might have been more of a triangle this time with Paul, Chris and Nina, but it's one of those cases where two people split and then realize they're better off together. They thought the grass was greener elsewhere, but found out it wasn't. Paul is a great catch.

TV Guide Magazine: And he must be looking mighty damn fine to Nikki right now, after all the hell Victor has put her through.
Thomas Scott: Paul has no flaws! He is perfect but, oddly enough, Nikki kind of likes that Victor drives her crazy. Paul is so wonderful and good and kind but, deep down, I don't think Nikki could handle that. He's too passive for her. She loves and adores Paul, but she is addicted to Victor.
Bell: But it's Paul who Nikki goes to when she's in trouble.
Davidson: Nikki needs a solid rock and Paul is the only one who can be that for her.
Bell: A wife always gets upset when a husband doesn't see an issue clearly. Paul doesn't say to Chris, "Nikki's showing up in our lives all the time! I know this must be hard on you." Instead he'll say, "Poor Nikki seems really frazzled today. She must be going through so much!" For a wife, that's a knife to the heart! When a husband is that oblivious, it sends you into a panic. "Wait a second...is this going to be my new life? Always worrying about her?"
Thomas Scott: [Laughs] Women can always see through the s--t other women pull. Men can't!
Bell: [Laughs] Maybe this would be a good time for Chris to turn to Dylan for emotional support!

TV Guide Magazine: Now we're talking!
Thomas Scott: She is her father's daughter!
Bell: No! I'm just joking about that.

TV Guide Magazine: Why? It's a phenomenal idea — and it sure would frost Paul and Nikki's shorts.
Davidson: This could go in so many great directions.

TV Guide Magazine: What about Chris and Victor getting together?
Thomas Scott: Now, that would be very interesting.
Bell: The writers actually toyed with that about 10 years ago. Chris and Victor were working closely on some case or whatever. He was her mentor and they were bantering over all this legal stuff and there was sexual tension. [Laughs] Nikki didn't like it one bit.

TV Guide Magazine: Why don't I remember this storyline? Did you kiss Eric Braeden?
Bell: I don't remember. I don't think so...

TV Guide Magazine: Oh, you'd remember all right. Moving on. Another interesting twist to this triangle is that it could be a quadrangle but isn't. Victor and Paul get along like cheese and crackers.
Davidson: Which is odd, considering Victor set up Paul's sister, Patty, and drove her over the edge. He had her face redone and everything. But all that seems forgotten and they do respect each other. There's no jealousy on Victor's part, even though he sees this growing connection between Paul and Nikki. Paul is turning into the new Douglas Austin — the guy who can call Victor on his s—t and get away with it.

TV Guide Magazine: Why did Nikki freak out about her old journal, and how Dylan would react to the contents, when it was clear he was totally sympathetic? Any excuse for a meltdown?
Thomas Scott: Nikki felt disgusted to be carrying what she thought was Ian Ward's baby all those years ago and she said so in her journal, and she thinks that's very hurtful to Dylan. Yes, he's been very understanding, but that's not good enough for Nikki. When there is no drama, she creates it. She must feel bad. Nikki is the consummate victim and she will always find a way to be one.
Davidson: And Nikki did have a very graphic past. Some of these revelations make her look like a tramp.
Thomas Scott: Her self-worth was never very high. Now it's plummeting.

TV Guide Magazine: And that's good news, because it means Nikki is going back to the bottle. I'm told she will be pretty blotto by the end of August.
Davidson: The fans love that!
Bell: I think a lot of women in our audience want to be Nikki, and watching her have problems makes her more real to them.
Davidson: [Laughs] She certainly makes the rest of us feel better. People are sitting at home, grabbing a cocktail and saying, "I can handle my booze and Nikki can't!"
Bell: This is yet another reason for Paul to become Nikki's caretaker.
Thomas Scott: I can just see him sweeping her off to some mountain spa and treatment center and getting her dried out.

TV Guide Magazine: How bad will her drinking get this time?
Thomas Scott: Pretty bad, I hear. For weeks now she's been leading up to this. She's been staring at vodka bottles and playing with cocktail glasses, running her finger longingly around the rim...like foreplay. Her need for a drink is becoming more and more urgent and inevitable. [Laughs] And I am delighted! A big part of Nikki's appeal is that she's a wealthy, high-society woman who seemingly has everything, yet she's a drunk in the gutter. The audience enjoys seeing her suffer — and I am happy to accommodate!

Days of Our Lives Alum Nadia Bjorlin Engaged!

It's time to plan a wedding. Days of Our Lives alum Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe Lane) is engaged.

The actress' beau, entrepeneur Grant Turnbull, surprised her when he popped the question while they were vacationing in Ireland. An excited Bjorlin quickly took to Facebook to announce the news -- and post a photo of her gorgeous engagement ring: a square diamond in a pave setting.

"So, this happened. Couldn't be happier! And so it begins in Ireland... with Grant Turnbull," posted Bjorlin.

Later, the couple celebrated, but not with the traditional champagne.

"Tea time with my handsome fiance," posted Bjorlin from The Merchant Hotel.

Bjorlin and Turnbull met earlier this year through mutual friends on a memorable holiday -- Valentine's Day. The pair began dating shortly thereafter and before long realized they were destined to be together.

Turnbull took Bjorlin to Ireland to celebrate her August 2 birthday, and they've been exploring the countryside ever since.

It turns out Bjorlin now has another recent to celebrate: she's getting married.

Congratulations to the happy couple.

GH Tot Recast!

GENERAL HOSPITAL's tiniest stars, Jaxon and Jakob Kring -- the twins who play Sam's son, Danny -- have been recast. A show rep shares that Caden and Corben Rothweiler have taken over the role.

"We just want to say thanks to all the fans and GH cast/crew for an amazing two years," the twins' mom tweeted. "Unfortunately, the boys have been recasted. We are very thankful for the time we had and wish the new Danny much success and luck."

The show's casting call was for 3- or small 4-year-old twins; the Krings will celebrate their third birthday in January. As for the 3 1/2-year-old Rothweiler brothers, they appeared in a 2013 episode of DISNEY XD's KICKIN' IT.

B&B's Mosley Waxes Poetic!

Inspired by a magazine article about a man who wrote a haiku a day, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Karla Mosley (Maya) set a similar goal for herself, daily writing brief "micropoems" that range from the silly to the sublime.

The actress compiled a collection of her favorites into the newly-released self-published book called Short Poems For A Long And Happy Life, which is currently available in paperback at Amazon.com.

"The only reason it happened is because of the fans that I stay in touch with on social media," Mosley explains. "I was posting haikus, and fans started asking me, 'When are you putting a book together?' I finally said, 'Why not?'"

In addition to adding "published author" to her repertoire, Mosley has kept busy during B&B's summer hiatus on the set of HART OF DIXIE, on which she recurs as the comically stereotypical Southern belle, Elodie.

In July, Mosley shared with Twitter fans a setside photo of herself sporting a bright pink bow on her head for the role. "All pink. All day," she quipped. "Must be back in Dixie."

Jessica Collins' Sister To Appear On The Young and the Restless!

Olivia Capogna, the younger sister of The Young and the Restless star Jessica Collins (Avery), will appear as an extra on the Crimson Lights coffeehouse set on September 8.

"Just made an album of my sister's big debut on #YR!" tweeted a proud Collins.

Laura Bozzo Joins Mi Corazon Es Tuyo!

Laura Bozzo is best known as the controversial talk show host and her "que pase el desgraciado" catchphrase. Now you will know the 62-year-old Peruvian personality as an actress. Sure many already say her panelists are all actors and Laura is in on the joke, but this time she will be more legit guest starring in a Televisa telenovela.

That's right! Bozzo has announced she will have a role in Mi Corazón Es Tuyo, the Univision series that stars Silvia Navarro and Jorge Salinas. Laura said she was very thankful to Juan Osorio for giving her the opportunity and that her character will have a social conscious and will be tied to Adrian Uribe's Johnny. "I cannot say more because Juan will lynch me, he will make the announcement soon, all I can say is not to miss Mi Corazón Es Tuyo," she told reporters.

We are not sure how to feel about her stint on a telenovela that is family oriented. Laura can be a little delusional and she says she's all about family integrity, but her show is all about infidelities and violence.

Watch First Promo Teaser For Yo No Creo En Los Hombres!

Yo No Creo En Los Hombres" is coming soon starring Gabriel Soto and Adriana Louvier. The Televisa production is based on a Caridad Bravo Adams classic with this updated version being helmed by Giselle Gonzalez. The aforementioned producer had worked with Roberto Gomez Fernández in productions like Para Volver a Amar, Alma De Hierro and Cachito De Cielo side by side. With this new telenovela, she has broken lose and calling the shots and we are loving what we are seeing so far.

A teaser for the soap was released this week that shows a lot of creepy mannequins and a voiceover that says: "They are charming, false, disloyal, dreamers, shameless...do you believe in them?"

The show will also star Irán Castillo, Flavio Medina, Sophie Alexander and Rosa María Bianchi. The story revolves around a malicious family that torments the main protagonist. She falls in love with a man that only takes advantage of her good heart and ends up marrying another woman. One night he tries to abuse her and as self-defense he dies. Our leading lady is accussed of murder and sentenced to jail. This is where she swears never to believe in men again. After she regains her freedom she meets a lawyer that sparks her interest and the possibility of falling in love.

Angelique Boyer and Sebastián Rulli Reunite For Comedy Stage Show!

Amidst rumors that just won’t go away about their “personal” relationship, Hispanic telenovela stars Angelique Boyer and Sebastián Rulli are reunited, just weeks after finishing filming for Lo que la vida me robó.

The duo are starring in a new comedy stage show called Los Derechos De La Mujer (The Rights of Women), produced by Ruben Lara. Several clips of their rehearsals have already been uploaded to YouTube, and Boyer has been sharing photos from the set on Twitter.

One picture shows the couple about to embrace each other with a kiss, and another shows Boyer in bed in only her underwear, arguing with Rulli, who is wearing a dressing gown.

Critics who watched the first showing on Saturday are calling them an excellent combination as a stage couple. The story follows the life of two newlyweds, and explores the roles of men and women in society. The comedy twist is that Boyer’s character is the one working to support the household, while Rulli is the stay at home husband. The first show of four entertained more than a thousand people in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Co-star Alex Sirvent said “In The rights of Women you can see Sebastian and Angelique from a different perspective, they came out of their comfort zone.”

Rulli said: “I wanted to break from the character that people are familiar with from soap operas, and show that as an actor I can also make people laugh.”

As he performs with his band-mates on the North American leg of their mammoth world tour, his thoughts are on the other side of the Atlantic. One Direction star Zayn Mailk and his Muslim relatives are united in prayer as they support three-year-old Arshiya Malik, who is bravely fighting for her life following a brain tumour operation.

The star's little cousin, whose image has been shared on social media by distraught yet hopeful relatives, enjoyed a special day out in July, when Zayn threw a funfair party for his fiancée Perrie Edwards on a Hertfordshire country estate as she celebrated turning 21.

On Wednesday, the star's cousin Aaroosa Malik posted a picture of Arshiya on Instagram, with the accompanying caption: 'Please can everyone pray for Arshiya as much as you can as her MRI scan didn't come out good. 'Doctors are saying theres nothing they can do & have put her on life support machines now. 'Please keep her in your duas always & the rest is up to Allah. '

In the early hours of Friday morning she tweeted: 'Went to see Arshiya today. Gutted me up! Looks like a totally different baby :( Please keep her in your duas [prayers]. Thank you'  On Tuesday, Zayn's sister Doniya Malik tweeted: 'Thank you every1 hu did dua for arshiya things are looking good, but still need ur duas she had 1% chance! Jus shows there is a god.. (sic)' She added: 'And prayers work xxx'

Arshiya, of Bradford, went in for surgery on Monday, while her famous older cousin was a whole ocean away with his 1D bandmates on their Where We Are tour. The stars are due to play at the Gillette Stadium in Boston, Massachusetts, for the second night in a row on Friday. They will then go on to Washington, DC, for a show at the Nationals Park on Monday.

Game Changer
“Hey are you that guy from TV? I don’t really watch TV, but my mum says she recognizes you.” That is how Dutch actor Michiel Huisman recounts his experiences with being recognized on the streets of his home country. The Dutch are a low-key people; much like Huisman himself, who has retained that laid-back cool despite his fast-growing fame.

The handsome, charismatic actor has been a regular on the small screen for the past few years, appearing in highly acclaimed shows such as HBO’s Treme, BBC America’s Orphan Black and ABC’s Nashville. Despite notable performances in each show, it wasn’t until his appearance as a re-cast Daario Naharis on the HBO global mega-hit Game of Thrones that brought the actor to the attention of a wider audience. After his casting was announced, the internet buzzed with speculation about who he could be playing and it was with some degree of surprise when fans found that he would be filling Ed Skrein’s recently vacated shoes as Daenerys Targaryan’s Tyroshi sell-sword lover.

“Daario is an extremely confident man,” Huisman explains, “and he’s a man who is very aware of his strength. I felt that I needed to find something in myself that was also so confident.” A photo of Huisman with his trainer at the gym leaked ahead of his appearance on the show, sparking more interest in his character: “Yeah, it’s a miracle that not more pictures were leaked, because let’s just say I worked out a lot preparing for that role!”

Despite being a newcomer to the series, Huisman got what were arguably two of the most memorable scenes in the season; one in which he takes out the Champion of Meereen with barely a second glance, and that highly anticipated scene where his queen orders him to strip for her. The latter sparked plenty of discussion amongst show devotees, many of who lamented that the sequence could have been…well… expanded upon. “It was a lot of fun for me to be part of something that was so highly anticipated,” he laughs, “it was a good power dynamic because she’s so completely in control.”

Having signed on as a series regular for season five, Huisman will be returning to Essos next year and chances are you’ll be seeing more of him. Game of Thrones aside, the actor brings his “scruffy- hot” factor, as fans have dubbed it, to several soon to be released big screen projects as well. Despite appearing in such high-profile movies as The Young Victoria and World War Z, the upcoming Age of Adaline will mark his first Hollywood movie as the male lead, starring opposite Blake Lively in a star-studded cast that includes Harrison Ford and Ellen Burstyn. “Oh my god, it was so cool!” Huisman enthuses about his involvement in the movie that just completed shooting several weeks ago, “It’s something that I was really hoping for and working towards. But you never know if it’s in the cards for you or not so I was really over-excited to get that opportunity.” Though little information is currently available yet for Age of Ada
line, it is confirmed that Huisman plays the eponymous heroine’s love interest and the son of Harrison Ford’s character. When asked how it felt to act alongside the screen legend Ford, Huisman has nothing but praise for him: “He was just blowing me away on set. His focus is so inspiring.”

Another upcoming project for Huisman, to be released at the end of this year, is the Jean-Marc Vallée directed biopic Wild, which will see the actor starring alongside Hollywood darling Reese Witherspoon. This will mark the first reunion for Huisman and Vallée, still fresh from the success of Dallas Buyers Club, since they worked together on The Young Victoria. “That really is one of my favourite things about working with someone you’ve worked with before,” Huisman says, “You know what you’re going to get, and that way, you can really build on it and take it to the next step. I very much liked working on The Young Victoria, and knowing that you’re working with such a great director gives you so much trust and faith. Really, Jean-Marc is one of the greatest directors of our time.”

Oh, about the “scruffy-hot” identifier, Huisman just wanted to clarify that it was simply a matter of circumstances: “I was shooting so many different things at the same time that I couldn’t really change my look. I did shave my beard when I played a ballet dancer for the BBC movie Margot. Yeah… in that movie I had to shave a lot of hair… I won’t elaborate, but it was more than the beard I’ll tell you that!” Follicular consistency aside, it’s a real testament to his acting skills that he manages to make each of his roles distinct enough that you might do a double-take upon realizing that it was the same actor in each.

With his slow, relaxed pan-American accent with just a touch of Southern, it’s easy to forget that Huisman originally hails from suburban Amsterdam. Both he and his wife Tara Elders were heavily involved in the movie scene in the Netherlands before moving to the US in 2009 with their young daughter for the filming of Treme. Set in New Orleans, the critically acclaimed show was Huisman’s first foray into American television, and indeed first time living in another country. The family still has their home base in New Orleans to this day. “It’s a funny place,” Huisman says of his adopted home city, “it’s definitely not Europe, but it’s also not entirely typical USA. New Orleanians like to refer to it as the northern-most point of the Caribbean. I think it was a great place for us to land and start our life in the US.”

It is understandable why Huisman would relocate his entire family to the States. The film industry in the Netherlands isn’t exactly what you’d describe as thriving. Having thought that his career would lead down the musical route, Huisman always played music alongside his acting gigs. It was only after acting seemed to continuously yield more fruitful results that he put music on a bit of a back burner. However, having played a musician in both Nashville and Treme, it seems that his skills came in handy after-all.

Now with the majority of his time tied up in American productions, the question of how he and his wife will pass on their Dutch heritage and culture to their daughter comes up. “She’s grown up most of her life in America,” he says, “but she stays connected through her family and grandparents. We try to at least spend a lot of time in the summer in the Netherlands, when the movies are a little slower. We all speak Dutch at home, so she’s fully bilingual and at the same time she has a better American accent than I do!”

With so many different shows and movies
in the works, Huisman confesses that he’s been
lucky enough to be able to bring his family with
him wherever he goes: “My family is my home,
I’ve learned to be home wherever they are.”
As for his daughter, in order for her to have some semblance of consistency in an almost nomadic lifestyle, he and his wife bought her a cat that they take everywhere. “It’s one of those hairless cats, the ones that often play the evil cat in movies,” he laughs, “but in reality she’s very sweet. A kid needs a pet, our daughter really loves animals so how can we deprive her of a pet just because it’s not always so convenient?”

Whether it’s protecting the Mother of Dragons, or charming an immortal woman, expect to be seeing a lot of Huisman next year. The ever on-the-go actor is currently shooting an independent movie in LA as this issue goes to print, and then he’s jetting off to spend a few precious weeks with his family in Amsterdam. After that, it’s back to work filming the next season of Game of Thrones. With all the attributes of a Hollywood leading man mixed in with a good dose of the Dutch down-to-earth personality, there’s no doubt that Michiel Huisman will go far, so watch this space.

Michiel Huisman: Chanel's New Face
Game of Thrones actor Michiel Huisman is featured in the campaign for Chanel No.5 fragrance.

(Prefacing this by saying that I don't speak Dutch, so this is a Google Translation of the article to English + a little finagling on my end. There's a bit of weirdness but the point gets across well enough.)

Chanel has a new face for the No.5 fragrance. It's no Keira Knightley or Audrey Tautou, but our own Dutch Michiel Huisman. The Game of Thrones actor follows in the footsteps of Brad Pitt , who was previously the face of Chanel's classic scent. In May it was announced that the No.5 campaign would include the model Gisele Bündchen, who previously stood for Chanel Les Beiges. Now it appears that Michiel Huisman, alongside the Brazilian model, will be seen in the campaign for Chanel. Recently, the two were spotted on a set all together, which now appears to have been a real Chanel set. Unfortunately we have to wait until September until we along with Gisele admire this Dutch actor.

Eddie Rouse has also been cast for the role of Kissy, a laconic American-Indian who deals cards and contraband from the town saloon.

Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Angela Sarafyan and Simon Quarterman will also star.

Jonathon Nolan is set to write and direct. Executive producers include J.J. Abrams, Jerry Weintraub and Bryan Burk.

Outlander pilot already viewed nearly 1 million times

Starz’s “Outlander” premiere has drawn almost 1 million views since it debuted in a free multiplatform preview on Aug. 2, a week before its official air date on Aug. 9.

The premium cabler made the first episode of its hotly anticipated adaptation available online through starz.com, YouTube, the Starz Play app, Starz On Demand and via various cable, satellite and telco affiliates in the U.S. Starz offered similar previews of other recent dramas, “Power” and “Black Sails,” ahead of their linear airings.

According to preliminary data drawn from Starz On Demand, Starz Play, starz.com, YouTube, and Xfinity, the premiere has been watched approximately 900,000 times by more than 600,000 unique viewers, not counting On Demand orders from the cabler’s affiliates — including Time Warner, which launched a dedicated “Outlander” Enjoy Better campaign featuring the show’s stars.

We’ve heard from fans the world over who are anxiously awaiting to see how we’ve brought Claire and Jamie to life in what may possibly be the most highly anticipated series in Starz history,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said of their sampling rollout. “Our ‘Outlander’ sampling strategy serves the dual purpose of giving early access to the series premiere for those fans thirsting to watch it as soon as possible, as well as providing a vehicle that introduces the Starz experience to prospective new subscribers who are eager to learn all about this great new series.”

While Starz added 100,000 subscribers in the second quarter, it remains to be seen whether “Outlander” can prove compelling enough to draw new eyeballs to the pay cabler following its premiere. Starz is betting big on the lavish adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling novel, hoping to capitalize on the “lack of female-skewing programs in the premium space,” according to Albrecht.

“Outlander” is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television. “Battlestar Galactica” helmer Ron Moore executive produces the series.

While the Internet is no stranger to thigh gap scandals, it seems that retailer the Gap has now found itself immersed in the too-skinny debate.

The popular clothing company has been on the receiving end of criticism as of late after the Gap tweeted a photo of a super-skinny model wearing a pastel plaid dress.

"Dress up your days in pastel plaid. #since1969," read the caption to the pic, which features the pin-thin model.

The image sparked an endless amount of controversy from the Twitterverse, with some users defending the brunette beauty's frame, while others expressed outrage over the controversial shot.

Following the plethora of critical comments, the model's husband, director Daniel Ralston, weighed in on the skinny scandal and insisted that his wife simply has trouble putting on weight.

Gap has since responded to the controversy via a statement to E! News. "Our intentions have always been to celebrate diversity in our marketing and champion people for who they are," Edie Kissko, Gap Inc. spokesperson said. "Upon reflection, we understand the sensitivity surround this photograph. Customer feedback is important to us and we think this is a valuable conversation to learn from."

It's also worth noting that the retailer's website features a different model sporting the same dress. According to the site, the model is 5-foot-10 inches with a 25-inch waist and is wearing a size small.

“You Can’t Play The Victim”: Tisha Campbell-Martin Reveals That She Was Raped At The Age Of 3

We told you about this new advice show, The Daily Helpline, last week when Brandy was a guest and spoke openly and vulnerably about hoping to find love before it’s too late. Someone else who has appeared on the new Fox show since is Tisha Campbell-Martin, and she too opened up in a way that we’ve never seen her do before. While giving a woman who was a victim of sexual assault some heartfelt advice, she revealed that she has gone through the same feelings and struggles the young woman had because she was also sexually abused at one point in her life.

You can no longer be a victim. You have to be victorious at this point. You can’t play the victim because at this point, and I’m not saying this to put you down or anything. What I’m saying is that he is winning, and you are allowing him to win. You are making a conscious decision to harm yourself, to hurt yourself and allow this person to still have dominion over your life. You can’t do that anymore. The reason why I can absolutely say this to you without judgment or anything else is, and this is the first time I have ever admitted this on camera in front of millions of people is that I too have been a victim of the same thing. When I was three I was raped, by an older person. Now, I knew as child I did nothing wrong and that this wasn’t my fault, but I have found forgiveness in the guilt that I might’ve had. I felt like, did I pull this in? Did I do something? At three years old? No. It’s a heinous crime.”

"The streaming video service just edged past HBO on the subscription revenue front last quarter, earning $1.146 billion to the cable network's $1.141 billion."

Emmy nominations aren't the only place where Netflix is beginning to eat HBO's lunch. The streaming video service just edged past HBO on the subscription revenue front last quarter, earning $1.146 billion to the cable network's $1.141 billion.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings posted the news to Facebook, noting that his company is still behind when it comes to profits and Emmys, but "we're honored to be in the same league." He added, "Yes, I loved Silicon Valley (Mike Judge's sitcom about tech start-ups) and yes, it hits a little close to home."

Netflix NFLX shares rallied 4.5%, one of the better performers on a down day for the market.

Founded in 1997 as a online DVD rental service, Netflix began streaming movies and TV series online in 2007, entering the original content business in 2011 with House of Cards. The show brought Netflix its first Emmy nominations the following year. Both Cards and prison dramedy Orange is the New Black are up for series Emmys on Aug. 25.

Domhnall Gleeson talks about Star Wars

The actor of "Frank" and "About Time" answered whatever offbeat questions he could about working on the anticipated J.J. Abrams installment.

"There's a guy in that window out there with a sniper rifle trained on you, and another one that's trained on me right now, and they can hear every word we're saying, and if you ask a question that disrespects the NDA, there's just going to be a 'poof'!" he told ComingSoon.net, as the outlet tried hard to get Gleeson to leak a secret or two about the anticipated J.J. Abrams installment while interviewing him about the offbeat rock band film Frank.

While Gleeson refused to comment on whether the cast and crew are required to wear shin guards after Harrison Ford's leg injury, he did note, "When you walk from your trailer to the set — you're in Pinewood Studios — you have to put on a big, black cloak thing to cover all of your clothes, like full length, 'cause they're worried about people seeing costumes and stuff. It's crazy."

Still, he's not necessarily anticipating a life-changing amount of fame, and laughed about the notion that he'll be turned into an action figure soon: "Just because I'm doing Star Wars doesn't mean that'll be the thing that makes people stop me in the street. Maybe they won't ever, so it'll be fine."

So who is guiding him through all the uncharted Star Wars territory? "No one can give me advice on Star Wars because nobody knows what I'm doing in Star Wars. The only advice I've gotten is from people like J.J., and that's always good advice!"

He was able to answer a question about the food on set, describing it as, "Excellent. Excellent food. Really really good. You can go really healthy and it'll still be tasty. ... Something like quinoa with chicken and stuff, but your whole meal will only be 500 calories, but it'll be really tasty and there won't be any crazy sauce or anything like that, but it's just really well seasoned and delicious."

LUSH Cosmetics Partners with Discovery Channel for Shark Week!

Summer is officially in full swing and as millions head to the beach, it’s easy to forget how essential our oceans—and sharks—really are. In an effort to help shed light on the important role that sharks play in maintaining a healthy ocean and planet, LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics has partnered up with Discovery Channel’s SHARK WEEK, the longest running prime time series on television and beloved summertime ritual, to launch the limited edition Shark Fin Soap.

Made from vegan, cruelty-free ingredients including skin-softening seaweed, cleansing sea salt, lime and lavender, LUSH’s Shark Fin Soap ($5.95) was created especially to promote shark conservation efforts in partnership with Discovery Channel’s SHARK WEEK, which kicks off August 10th. A paper fin in the top of the soap is a cheeky way for LUSH staff and customers to engage on the very important topic of shark finning and how everyone can help change the tide for sharks. With every purchase of Shark Fin Soap, LUSH will give 100 percent of the sale price to United Conservationists to support their FinFree™ movement.

“With the support from selling 30,000 shark fin soaps, United Conservationists aims to create and unleash the most powerful shark conservation tool ever and take FinFree™ to the next level. This free toolkit will include a shorter version of the award-winning film Sharkwater, in order to educate and inspire the masses,” says Rob Stewart, United Conservationists Co-founder and director of Sharkwater.

Sharks play a critical role keeping the ocean’s ecosystem in balance. Sadly, the growing demand for shark fin soup and other shark products has led to a decline in shark populations by over 90 percent in just a few decades. Sharks are killed largely for their fins with the practice of shark finning taking only the fin and discarding the body, wasting 95 percent of the animal. Because LUSH cares about animals and the planet, we’ve partnered with SHARK WEEK and United Conservationists to launch a campaign across all of our stores in North America from July 30 – August 16. In addition to selling Shark Fin Soap we are also inviting our customers to sign petitions asking for a complete ban on the trade, and possession of ALL shark fin products (www.fin- free.com/petitions).

Watch: ‘The Knick’ Premiere for Free Online

If you missed the premiere of “The Knick” on Friday, here’s your chance to take a free bloody trip back to the 1900's.

Cinemax has put the pilot up on YouTube. Directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Clive Owen as a doctor at New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital during the early 20th century, the grisly medical drama is not for the faint of heart. There’s also a full frontal nude scene a mere 20 seconds into the first episode.

“Yes, the barbaric nature of medicine — evolving though it was — remains grisly stuff, but once that point’s made (and made again), it’s tough to see what breakthroughs ‘The Knick’ has left to offer,” Variety’s Brian Lowry wrote in his review.

This practice has become the norm with cable show premieres. Most recently, Starz’s “Outlander,” HBO’s “The Leftovers” and Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful” pilots were all posted online for free by the respective network.

“The Knick” airs Fridays on Cinemax.
