Niall Horan is Coldplay's No.1 fan

The One Direction star was one of thousands who went to see the British band, fronted by Chris Martin, perform at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, London Tuesday night.

While he’s more accustomed to being the one on the stage making the crowd go wild, Niall admitted he loved taking a backseat to watch Chris, bassist Guy Berryman, guitarist Jonny Buckland and drummer Will Champion wow fans with their latest music.

“The royal Albert hall was rocking tonight!” Niall tweeted after the show. “Went t see Coldplay, was incredible ! Never seen them live before, so was a great experience,” he added (sic).

Apparently the band members, who are promoting their latest release, Ghost Stories, were feeling great about the gig as well.

“Goodnight London. That was a cracker,” a tweet from Coldplay’s verified Twitter account read, with a picture of the packed venue.

Niall meanwhile seems to be making the most of his brief break from 1D’s 'Where We Are' Tour.

The pop star and his bandmates are scheduled to play in Düsseldorf, Germany on Wednesday, but Niall recently issued a plea to some of his very eager fans.

“Can you limit what gets thrown on stage please! Coz somethin thrown at me tonight! Hit my knee! A lot of pain from it!” the 20-year-old tweeted.

“Never wana sound like I'm complaining! But only having my operation 5 months ago, I still get a bit of pain and I'm very scared about it,” he tweeted about the band’s show in Amsterdam last week (sic).

The message came just a few months after 1D took a break at the beginning of the year for Niall to recover from knee surgery.

Although the star was reportedly seen limping in pain off the stage, and his bandmate Harry Styles was also apparently struck by a wayward object, there were no hard feelings.

“Amsterdam thank you for a great couple of shows! Appreciate you coming (sic),” Niall later tweeted.

Madonna buying iPods for Detroit students; donating a lot of her own money to 3 different programs

DETROIT — Madonna, who was “inspired” during a recent visit to Detroit, is donating money toward the construction of a new youth boxing gym and buying iPods, iPads and other supplies for students at a charter school in her hometown, according to a news release issued by the music icon’s publicist Monday.

The statement said Madonna’s donations to three Detroit organizations represent “the first phase of a long-term commitment to” the city.

The Rock and Roll Hall inductee will provide funding for a new facility for the Downtown Youth Boxing Gym, which provides free after-school boxing and educational mentoring to dozens of children; buy new equipment, art and music supplies for the Detroit Achievement Academy; and help out The Empowerment Plan, a nonprofit that employs homeless women who sew garments that are distributed to the homeless.

“I was deeply inspired by the efforts of so many people who I met who have dedicated themselves to helping the kids and adults in Detroit elevate themselves from the cycle of poverty. … It was obvious to me that I had to get involved and be part of the solution to help Detroit recover,” Madonna said in the written statement, referencing the city’s efforts to emerge from the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history.

“A piece of my heart will always be in Detroit, and I’m humbled to be able to give back to my community,” she said.

The statement does not say how much Madonna is contributing. A message seeking comment was left Monday with the singer’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg.

Madonna, 55, is known for such hits as “Material Girl,” ”Like a Virgin,” ”Papa Don’t Preach” and “Vogue.” She grew up in Bay City, Michigan, and the Detroit suburb of Rochester Hills and entered the Rock Hall of Fame in 2008.

Director Paul Mazursky Dies

Paul is far right

Paul Mazursky, the innovative and versatile director who showed the absurdity of modern life in such movies as Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice and An Unmarried Woman, has died. He was 84.

The filmmaker died of pulmonary cardiac arrest Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said Mazursky's spokeswoman Nancy Willen.

As a talented writer, actor, producer and director, Mazursky racked up five Oscar nominations, mostly for writing such films as Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice and Enemies, A Love Story.

He also created memorable roles for the likes of Art Carney, Jill Clayburgh and Natalie Wood. Later in life, Mazursky acted in such TV series as The Sopranos and Curb Your Enthusiasm and films such as Carlito's Way and 2 Days in the Valley.

"A true raconteur, Paul brought humor and spirit to the many guild meetings he attended during two decades of service to the DGA," said Directors Guild of America President Paris Barclay. "He shared his provocative views of humanity in his many films, but what he shared with us were quick quips, thoughtful responses and pointed anecdotes always geared toward making us think and feel."

Acting for Kubrick
He was born Irwin Mazursky in 1930 in Brooklyn. During the Depression, the family lived on the small wages his father earned as a laborer for the federal Works Progress Administration. When Mazursky graduated from high school, he changed his name from Irwin, which he had hated, to Paul.

Mazursky had always dreamed of becoming an actor, and he appeared in student plays at Brooklyn College. With the school's permission, he flew to California to act in Fear and Desire, director Stanley Kubrick's first film. When he received bad reviews, Mazursky buckled down to studying acting with a variety of teachers, including Lee Strasberg. But he found the most success behind the camera.

Mazursky and his writing partner Larry Tucker first triumphed with the script for Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, a clever takeoff on the emerging sexual freedom of the late 1960s. Warner Bros. turned it down for fear of its racy subject, but Columbia scooped it up and accepted Mazursky's proviso that he would direct the film.

Natalie Wood and Robert Culp portrayed Carol and Bob, a well-off couple who seek open lives. Dyan Cannon and Elliott Gould played Alice and Ted, who hesitate but acquiesce in Carol and Bob's invitation to wife-swapping. In the end, the quartet bow to the old morality and the wife-swapping remains unconsummated.

Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice was a success at the box office and set up Mazursky as rising director of the new school. His next film was Alex in Wonderland, which was also co-written by Tucker, starring Donald Sutherland as a young director who, like Mazursky, had a hit first movie and mulled about what to make for his second. It was scorned by critics.

Mazursky ended his relationship with Tucker and spent six months with his family in Rome and London, recovering from his failure. He later returned to filmmaking, continuing with his socially adept films, many of which he wrote, produced, directed and acted in, including the autobiographical Next Stop, Greenwich Village, An Unmarried Woman, Tempest, Moscow on the Hudson and Down and Out in Beverly Hills.

"I know there are some wonderful filmmakers with really tragic views of life," Mazursky told the Atlantic magazine. "But for me absurdity is just around the corner. I see it all the time."

Several Oscar Nominations
Over the years, he was nominated four times for screenplay Oscars: 1969's Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, 1974's Harry and Tonto, 1978's An Unmarried Woman and 1989's Enemies, A Love Story. As a co-producer, he also shared in the best picture nomination for An Unmarried Woman.

Mazursky returned to semi-autobiography in his poorly received 1993 film The Pickle, about an aging movie director grappling with professional and personal stumbles. In an Associated Press interview, he objected to the notion someone had expressed to him that the film's hero, played by Danny Aiello, was despicable.

"Every director I've met who was involved with a movie is self-centered," he said. "Directors are not walking around like Mahatma Gandhi saying, 'Oh, don't worry about the movie.' They're worried about their movie! They're crazed!"

He is survived by his wife, daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchild.

An Unmarried Woman remains one of my faves. Also loved him in Once and Again

Surprise!!!!! So it looks like I’m having myself a precious little baby girl! Oh my GOD! For a long time I thought I wanted a baby boy, but that’s because most of my family members wanted me to have a boy. However, deep, deep down inside of my heart I knew that I wanted a baby girl! I wanted a little mini-me so that when she grows up I could do everything with her and be able to talk to her about anything! My very own little mini-me!!!! :)

Since I will be raising her alone I think it’s just perfect that I’m having a girl for my first child instead of a boy because this way it will probably be easier on me. I could tell her about Mommy’s entire life and why it’s so important to not make the same mistakes I made. I want my baby girl to grow up a very strong, and independent woman just like I am, and you know what? I know that she will! My daughter will grow up to be a leader and stand up for all of the people who cannot stand up for themselves. My daughter will be beautiful just like her mama, but at the same time I will raise her to be a humble and loving person who will respect herself and others. I know I’m going to be a fantastic Mother to my little Warrior Princess Baby Girl because she will see how much crap that her mommy has been through in life and that alone will give her so much character and strength just through me alone! She will definitely not be a pushover! She’s going to be a smart and feisty little one…. with freckles of course! hehehehe

Oh my goodness! Such a huge pretty in pink belly you have there, Mommy!!! Perfect for your baby girl! <3 21 weeks here and growing!

Each day that passes I get more and more excited about having my own little warrior princess come into this world and fill it with more joy! On top of that I’m sure she will also have Mommy’s freckles, strong personality, put up with nobody’s crap in life, have a huge loving heart and be compassionate to others, and ohhhhh the possibilities are endless! I already KNOW that my little girl will be exactly like her Mama but an even better version of me because I will make sure she knows NOT to make the same mistakes I did while growing up and I know she will listen. She will respect me because I have life experience to back up everything I tell her and I just cannot wait to shower her with my love every single day for the rest of her life! Plus, she’s going to be a SCORPIO BABY JUST LIKE HER MAMA!! OHHHH WATCH OUT WORLD!!! WE HAVE ANOTHER FIESTY LITTLE ONE COMING INTO THIS WORLD!! BE PREPARED !!! LOL

Ohhhhhh Baby Tila….. do you know that you’re already a future heart breaker to come??? Oh boy! Please don’t give Mommy too much headache ok??? For now… let’s just hope you stay Mommy’s little Princess for as long as possible!! I LOVE YOU SO, SO, SO, SO MUCH BABY GIRL!! SO MUCH THAT YOU ARE MAKING ME CRY RIGHT NOW!! YOU WILL BE MY BEST FRIEND, MY ANGEL, MY WORLD, MY EVERYTHING! I CANNOT WAIT TO HOLD YOU IN MY ARMS AND SPOIL YOU WITH ALL THE LOVE THAT YOU COULD EVER DREAM OF!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE GOING TO BE MY SPOILED LITTLE PRINCESS!!! And from the looks of mommy’s humongus belly…. you are going to be a BIG, TALL, HEALTHY, BEAUTIFUL, spoiled princess!!! hehehe

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the first U.S. film in 4DX

$

Escapism has always been one of the biggest draws of cinema. Whether an audience just wants to hang out with a couple of funny people and laugh at their jokes for 90 minutes or get sucked into a 120 minute-long space opera complete with starship battles, the closer a person can get to the movie world in a theater, the better. Enter the new theater technology known as 4DX, which, for the first time ever, was used in the U.S. this past weekend. The chairs are set upon gimbals to move around and shake, theaters can replicate various smells, and the seats are even programmed to blow air and water on the audience. All of this is synced up with the events up on the big screen.

And what better way to test out the new technology than with one of the most spectacular, action-packed movies that have been released so far this year? The first ever 4DX screening in the United States was of Marvel Studios' Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and from Yahoo!'s description it sounds like one hell of a ride. The article mentions events like air blowing in your face as Black Widow's fired bullets fly across the screen, quick chair jolts as Captain America throws his shield around to take down bad guys, and even a little splash as Nick Fury drives through a puddle.

Yahoo! has the scoop on the new specialty screening format, which was just recently installed at the Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE Stadium 14 in Downtown Los Angeles - the first of many planned locations. Created by the South Korean company CJ 4DPlex, the technology works by engaging all five of a persons senses while watching a movie.

For a detailed breakdown of exactly how it all works, watch the video below. I would highly recommend skipping past the intro and going straight to the 2:10 mark, which is when it begins to break down the various sensory stimulants that are available during a 4DX screening.

t's a shame there probably wasn't an opportunity to use the bubble effect during Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

If you want to try out 4DX for yourself, know that it will cost you a pretty penny. At the LA Live - which is admittedly a pretty expensive theater normally - a ticket for a 4DX screening of Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction will run you $26.75 per ticket ($8 more than a standard 3D ticket).

While I'm not looking forward to paying that tab, I will say that I am curious about testing 4DX at least once. While it may not necessarily be the future of cinema, it could at the very least be a fun way to see an action flick. For more information about the company and when a theater might be coming to a location near you, head over to 4DX's official website.

"Captain America 2" raked in $7.3 million during its run from April 3 to May 30 as box office revenue was up nearly 12 percent from the first six months of 2013.

Disney/Marvel Studios has topped the Hong Kong box office yet again, with its Captain America 2 coming in at No. 1 for the first half of 2014.

Captain America 2 raked in $7.3 million during its run from April 3 to May 30, according to Hong Kong Box Office Ltd., a subsidiary of Hong Kong Motion Picture Industry Association and Hong Kong Theatres Association. The sequel was followed by The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in second place, which took in $7 million; and in third place, X-Men: Days of Future Past, which took in $6.5 million.

But these records might be short-lived, as Transformers: Age of Extinction amassed $5.6 million from June 26-30.

The highest grossing Hong Kong movie in the first six months of the year was Golden Chickensss, starring Sandra Ng and a number of local stars, which took in $5.3 million from January to March.

Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie, trails behind, with $4.9 million in sixth place.

The total number of films released during the first six months of the year in Hong Kong was 159, with 25 local films and 134 foreign imports.

The total box office was $110 million, an 11.8% increase from the same period last year, in which the total gross was $98.5 million.

More Guru Tweets were published today, answering Sims fans questions about the abomination that is Sims 4

Here's a summary of the answers from today:
14373670007_17e0ebf07f_z

-With the auto-aging feature (that players can turn off and on as pleased), NPC Sims can age and die on their own. When the family dies, newly generated Sims will move in and take over there household.

-You can jump to separate households and manage the Sims there.

-The story progression will not be similar to that in the Sims 3. NPC will not continue on generations by themselves. If you want a family that isn't your own to have multiple generations, you must switch to that family and try for a baby or play as them. (Meaning, new Sims will only "move in and die" when they come into town)

-There is a chance NPC Sims families will not have children or babies.

-There are NO work, school, or grocery store lots. Adults and children leaving for these lots will do the same thing as they did in Sims 2, which is leave the current lot and return when they're done.

Also, there is a new post explaining and clarifying the world/lots/loading screens of the new game.

Worlds in the Sims 4

Willow Creek, the first confirmed world for The Sims 4, is a New Orleans inspired world divided into six individual neighborhoods. Only one neighborhood and lot in the world can be active at one time.

World– The world is split into 6 playable neighborhoods, but is not an “open world” like The Sims 3. Only one individual neighborhood can be active and played at one time.

Neighborhoods– There are 6 confirmed neighborhoods in Willow Creek. Five neighborhoods have up to five lots within them (both residential and community), and the sixth neighborhood is a large park called Magnolia Blossom.

Lots– There can only be up to 5 lots in each neighborhood, and only one active lot loaded at a time.

Public Spaces– Public spaces are the open areas of a neighborhood that are not part of a lot. In The Sims 4, public spaces in each active neighborhood will be fully loaded at all times, and Sims will be able to roam these areas of the world freely.

Loading Screens

Loading screens in The Sims 4 have a stylized Plumbob in the center, with text strings passing through at the bottom. According to the gurus, loading screens will take less than 30 seconds of your time, and only appear when traveling between worlds, neighborhoods, and lots. (surejan.gif)

Here are the answers to where the loading screens will appear:

• World to World: Yes

• Neighborhood to Neighborhood: Yes

• Lot to Lot: Yes

• Switching between Sims on two different lots: Yes

• Public Space to non-active lot: Yes

• Public Space to active lot (and vice versa): No

An unofficial image of a possible loading screen:

Traveling With Sims & Aging

Active Sims can travel to any neighborhood/lot in the world, and you as the player can follow right along with them. If you have more than one Sim in your household, you can send them all to other parts of the world without you. When switching between two Sims on different lots, you will incur a loading screen.

Sims outside the active neighborhood can still be controlled to a minimum using a new system called “away actions”. To quote SimGuruGraham, you can “choose other specific Sims for them to socialize with, you can build specific skills, can sleep, can have them maintain their needs…things like careers have their own set of away actions that are more relevant to their work.”

From Sims Guru Graham: You can send Sims off to different neighborhoods, different lots, they’ll continue simulating in the background, so wherever they are, if they’re not active on your lot at that time, time is still passing. If you go somewhere and then come back after a few hours, that time will have passed, so they’re still thinking, they’re doing their life simulation and actually, there’s some small little ‘away actions’ is what we’re calling them, that you can start to have actions for your Sim while they’re away, so you can give them little tasks to do while they’re gone doing their own thing.

Aging: We have two different options in game, if you want to enable automatic aging for your own Sims, for played households, or if you want to enable it for all the NPCs in the world. So you can have your own Sims automatically aging and let everyone else just not age, that’s totally an option.

The entire world can age, that’s an option and that’ll all happen no matter if you’re loaded there or not, they’re going to continue to age. The difference there between played households and NPC households? Played households are families that you have played so I can jump between my household and another household and they can both be aging if I want them to, or I can turn that back off, that’s kind of where the distinction is.

It just sounds like their putting an alpha Sims 2 in a new candy wrapper and calling it Sims 4. I'll probably just torrent it to play with CAS (which is the only thing I've liked that they've shown us so far). What say you ONTD? Will any of this info deter you from purchasing??? (Or, heaven forbid, encourage you to buy?!)

Coldplay's Chris Martin reveals he is no longer a vegetarian following marriage split

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has revealed that he is no longer a vegetarian following his separation from Gwyneth Paltrow, saying that he will eat the meat of any animal he could kill himself.

Martin revealed his dietary change in an interview with BBC Radio 2 host Steve Wright, saying: "I'd only eat something that I think I could kill," he said. "I'd kill a fish. Not a giraffe."

The newly single Martin also spoke about how music saved him following his "conscious uncoupling" from Paltrow earlier this year (2014).

"You can choose your paths in life, I find, when you get to a point where you're like, 'I could either jump off a bridge or I could try and turn this around'," he said. "I'm sure lots of people have that in much harder instances. You just find the right tools."

"I feel so grateful," he added. "Especially over the last couple of years, music has been alchemising. Going through something difficult in your life, music for me is always a friend and something that helps you to figure things out. That's always what I'm doing in the middle of the night. I'm very grateful to be here. Every day is a blessing. That's how I feel."

Director's cut of Clive Barker's 'Nightbreed' to be released this Halloween

$

0

Author, artist, and director Clive Barker seems to have few qualms about inflicting injury on characters, as those familiar with his Books of Blood short stories or the 1987 film Hellraiser know. But Barker himself had a painful experience with his 1990 fantasy-horror film Nightbreed. The tale of a suspected serial killer (Craig Sheffer) who joins a group of freakish-looking outcasts the film was, to Barker’s enduring dissatisfaction, re-cut before its release, and some of the movie’s original elements were subsequently lost forever…

… or were they? This week, the horror-oriented imprint Scream Factory confirmed the release details of Nightbreed: The Director’s Cut, which the company will put out on DVD and Blu-Ray, October 28. This new version of the film will be available in two formats, a special-edition DVD and Blu-ray collection with as-yet-unannounced bonus features and a limited-edition, three-disc Blu-ray release which will also include a booklet with essay and rare photos, a slipcase with Barker-approved artwork, and an exclusive-to-the-set disc of extras.
“This is film history and beyond my wildest dreams of realization,” Barker said in a statement. He continued:

When Scream Factory told me that they found the Nightbreed film footage I was gob-smacked! This is the ultimate validation of choices made by myself and Mark Miller [of Seraphim Films] all the way back in 2008. As we embarked down the road of attempting to track down the lost footage, we looked at each other and said, “Maybe one day they’ll find it.” It’s my pleasure to announce that the day has come. Speaking personally, I didn’t allow myself to believe that it would. Even if we did find some footage (which we did in 2009 in the form of heavily degraded VHS tapes) and even if we did find a company willing to release the film (which we did in 2013 with Scream Factory, God bless them) the prospect of finding the actual lost film materials was remoter than I’d wanted to admit out loud. If the footage could not be found by those who had worked closest on it the same year it had been released, then what were the odds we’d be able to find anything 20 years on? But Scream Factory, in their commendable determination, kept up the search and thanks to them total reconstruction has been made a possibility. There’s never been a reconstruction that’s had as little chance of succeeding and yet has succeeded on as many fronts as this film has. It’s unprecedented. To now have a movie that we can put together in the way that I fully intended it to be seen when I first set out to make this film in 1989 is extraordinary.

Watch a vintage trailer for Nightbreed below.

Look For Chris Hemsworth And Macklemore On Future FORBES Celebrity 100 Lists

$

0

Marvel is the money-making machine that helped land the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Joss Whedon on the FORBES Celebrity 100 list this year. One superhero who just missed making the cut was Chris Hemsworth, otherwise known as Thor. In the past 12 months, we estimate that Hemsworth earned $37 million. That’s a ton of money, but it wasn’t quite enough for Hemsworth to make the list. We only include 10 actors and Hemsworth was outranked by stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck.

But Hemsworth has a good chance of making the cut next year. The Aussie star earns most of his money playing Thor. The most recent Thor movie, The Dark World, earned $645 million at the global box office. And in this year’s timeframe Hemsworth got a healthy upfront payment to play Thor in the upcoming Avengers sequel Age of Ultron.

Hemsworth could transcend his superhero niche though with some upcoming films. In January, he’ll star in director Michael Mann’s latest, Cyber. The film tells the story of a group of American and Chinese specialists working together to crack a case of high-level computer hacking. Then in March he’ll have the period adventure flick In the Heart of the Sea, which tells the true story of a 19th century whaling ship that was rammed and sunk by a sperm whale, stranding its crew in lifeboats for 90 days. Heart of the Sea is from director Ron Howard, who also worked with Hemsworth on Rush. Their last collaboration stalled at the box office, bringing in only $90 million at the global box office. But working with top-notch directors like Howard and Mann is a great way for Hemsworth to show Hollywood that he’s more than just a pretty face, and it could even earn him an Oscar nomination in the process.

To compile the Celebrity 100 list, we talked to dozens of producers, lawyers, agents and other in-the-know folks to come up with earnings estimates between June 2013 and June 2014. We do not deduct for things like taxes, agent fees or the other costs associated with being a celebrity. We then combine earnings numbers with press and social networking power and an internally generated impact rating to come up with our final list.

The hip-hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis also just missed making the list. We estimate the group earned $32 million in the past 12 months. Musicians earn most of their money from touring. With hit songs like “Thrift Shop” and “Same Love” and a Grammy Award for Best New Artist, their next tour should sell out bigger arenas and bring in more money for the increasingly popular group.

With the recent late-night shuffle, Stephen Colbert is well-positioned to make our list next year. The comedian takes over David Letterman’s spot in 2015. If the show is a hit, he should be on the road to sizable pay bumps to go along with his big fame numbers. We estimate Colbert earned $10 million in the last 12 months.

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel could also be on his way to a spot on a future Celebrity 100 list. While the other hosts played a game of musical chairs this year, he stayed put and continued to slowly grow his audience. As Kimmel becomes one of the longest-serving hosts on late-night TV, expect his earnings to increase from their current estimated level of $10 million.

Another celebrity to watch is Zack Snyder. With the upcoming Batman v. Superman, the director is poised to become the Joss Whedon of D.C. Comics movies. If the film is a hit, he’ll be in good position to demand much higher paychecks for future D.C. adaptations.

Below are the rest of the Celebrity 100: Up and Comers

Gillian Flynn
$9 million
The former Entertainment Weekly writer is the hit of Hollywood. David Fincher is adapting her best-selling book, "Gone Girl" and a version of her book "Dark Places" is in the works. Expect to see more big things from Flynn in the coming years.

Mindy Kaling
$6 million
For the second year in a row Kaling just misses making the Celebrity 100 but we're keeping her on our up-and-comer list. Her Fox show is holding on and as Kaling's profile grows, maybe her audience will too.

Neymar
$34 million
Neymar’s earnings are set to soar even further as the face of the World Cup in his native Brazil and his move to soccer powerhouse Barcelona last year.

Jim Parsons
$12 million
The Big Bang Theory is one of the most successful shows on television and the cast is due for a pay raise. Parsons also manages to find time to appear in movies like the recent HBO adaptation of The Normal Heart.

Miles Kane and Alex Turner are writing an 'X-Men style film' together.

Speaking about potential future Last Shadow Puppets material Kane told Digital Spy that the pair "always talk" about the group but are prioritising a film.

"It's something we always talk about y'know? But I think we're gonna write this film first anyway before we hit back into that," Kane revealed."It's gonna have a sort of X-Men kind of vibe and sort of set in the '60s, but I can't give anymore away than that."

The 'Rearrange' singer added that neither of the pair would have major acting roles in the film, although they could feature in production in some form.

"We're not planning to be [in the film] but we may have a little cameo."

Kane and Turner released The Age of the Understatement under the alias of The Last Shadow Puppets back in 2008, as a side project to Turner's Arctic Monkey's and Kane's now-separated band The Rascals. Turner has often been joined on stage by Kane during live shows.

The Arctic Monkeys' frontman wrote and performed the soundtrack to 2008 Richard Ayoade-directed film Submarine.

Reeling in foul “Catfish” is nothing new for Internet detectives Nev Schulman and Max Joseph, but on the show’s third season, they’re not letting Internet liars off the hook so easily.

Fans who have been keeping up with Nev and Max’s most recent travels have noticed that the sleuths aren’t mincing many words (look no further than Nev’s now-infamous argument with Kidd Cole for evidence), and in the interview below, Nev explains that while filming the newest batch of episodes, he gave himself license to express his sincere anger when the online liars he met weren’t playing nice.

“For me this season, I definitely made a decision that I was going to be a little more open and forthcoming with my feelings,” Nev says in the clip. He adds that some of Season 3′s offenders have been “acting out of anger or intent to hurt other people,” and that when he felt like banging his head against the wall, he resolved to respond the way he believed a viewer might.

Still, he admits he’s not always proud of his more aggressive confrontations.

“I don’t always feel good about it, but I think it’s important that if someone makes you feel a certain way, you should let them know that, so they hopefully understand that what they’re doing is having a negative effect on someone,” he explains.

Do you like the Gangsta Nev? Or do you prefer the kinder, gentler version? Sound off, and keep watching “Catfish” Wednesday nights at 10/9c!

Today (July 2), Jewel announced her separation from World-Champion rodeo cowboy, Ty Murray, citing the need for “growth” that became “undeniably stifled as a couple.”

The divorce announcement comes in the form of Jewel’s website, where she released a statement. “I have learned in these 20 years of living my life honestly in front of you,” the singer said, addressing her fans. [I] trust that you will all honor and have reverence for how difficult this journey and allow us our process as we not only grieve the loss of our marriage, but also as we recreate ourselves in the ashes.”

The two had been married since 2008 and have a son together, Kase. Jewel says that the couple will stay close and have “chosen the difficult task ofundoing [themselves] stich by stich, and releasing each other with love” for the sake of their “beloved son.”

The note finishes with a joint statement from the couple reiterating their commitment to being parents and staying friends.

Who will save her soul now? Favorite Jewel song/music video, ONTD? I still have her book of poetry on my bookshelf...

Terry Pratchett cancels appearance due to Alzheimer's complications :'(

Terry Pratchett, who announced his diagnosis with early onset Alzheimer's seven years ago, has pulled out of a Discworld convention later this summer, saying "the Embuggerance is finally catching up with me".

Pratchett made the announcement with what he described as "great reluctance" on the website of the International Discworld Convention, where he had been set to appear as guest of honour in Manchester in August. "I have been putting off writing this announcement for quite some time and on good days thought I wouldn't have to write it at all," wrote the author. "I am very sorry about this, but I have been dodging the effects of PCA and have been able to write for much longer than any of us ever thought possible, but now The Embuggerance is finally catching up with me, along with other age-related ailments."

Pratchett was referring, in the "embuggerance", to the memorable description he initially gave to his posterior cortical atrophy, a rare form of early onset Alzheimer's he announced he had been diagnosed with in late 2007.

He told fans on the Discworld convention website on Wednesday that "this is the first time ever that I have been unable to attend a UK convention and I really am very sorry".

"They say time marches on, and it does, even though I have been running very fast to keep one step ahead of it. I really was looking forward to seeing your smiley, happy faces. Have fun everyone. Yes, on this occasion, have lots of fun," said the author, who has sold over 75m copies of his comic fantasy novels, the majority of which are set in Discworld, a a realm held up by four elephants balanced on the back of a giant turtle.

The convention's chair, John Hicks, said that Pratchett would still be answering some questions from fans on video, that his business manager Rob Wilkins would be "bringing The Black Hat"– Pratchett's trademark – "to the Convention to represent Terry in absentia and we will, of course, welcome it with all due honours".

Pratchett has been as prolific as ever since he announced his Alzheimer's, publishing well-received titles including the Discworld novels Snuff and Raising Steam, the Victorian London-set Dodger, and a collaboration with sceince fiction author Stephen Baxter, The Long Earth. As recently as Tuesday, he tweeted: "Just to let you all know, the book that's on the screen in front of us – and is well underway – will be the 5th Tiffany Aching novel". Tiffany Aching is the young witch star of a series of young adult books. He added: "After the exciting news regarding Tiffany V – a little announcement that doesn't make me quite so happy", and pointing to his withdrawal from the Discworld convention.

The novelist – knighted for his services to literature – has been a fierce campaigner for Alzheimer's research since his diagnosis. He donated £500,000 of his own money for research, and is a patron of the Alzheimer's Research UK. Pratchett has also spoken out in favour of a euthanasia tribunal.

"If you did not know there was anything wrong with me, you would not know there is anything wrong with me. The disease moves slowly, but you know it's there," he said in his Richard Dimbleby lecture in 2010.

The lecture saw Pratchett go on to admit his vow that "rather than let Alzheimer's take me, I would take it. I would live my life as ever to the full and die, before the disease mounted its last attack, in my own home, in a chair on the lawn, with a brandy in my hand to wash down whatever modern version of the 'Brompton cocktail' some helpful medic could supply. And with Thomas Tallis on my iPod, I would shake hands with Death."

At the year's halfway point, with summer just about to flip the calendar over to Side B, it's a challenge to get a satisfying picture of the year in music, even if you're just looking at a single genre. Consider the voices of the couple dozen obsessive listeners from NPR Music and our public radio partners who made this list, and the only thing that remains undeniably true is that great albums come out of every genre, from every corner of the world.

A still from the video for EMA's "So Blonde," one of NPR Music's 50 favorite songs from the first half of 2014.
Music Lists

What links them together? 2014 has, in its first six months, been a wonderful year for musicians who go deep. The 25 albums on this list (presented alphabetically) all start with a sound, a vibe, a concept or crucial idea. After that, they flower in different ways. One might display the range of sounds a band leader can pull out of a few fellow musicians or the depth of emotion a singer can plumb while mapping the course of desire and heartbreak. Others offer history lessons, looking back over 20 years in the life of an American city or 200 years in the life of an instrument.

All pull you in with both hands. All of them connect us as listeners to the work done by musicians who ask for more than three minutes of our time. These ones deserve it. These are our favorite albums of the year so far.
