Bonus Recap Impeachment Hearings Day 5Icymi the hearings yesterday, Fiona Hill was scorched earth in the most glorious way.
. Fiona Hill is my new favorite person. She eviscerated everyone who crossed her, particularly the GOP committee. When it got to member questioning, several just filibustered their 5 minutes rather than ask her (or Holmes) an actual question. She did all of this in a pleasant, calm, articulate manner with her lovely British accent.
. Conaway [do you know I’m in the military] was very preachy and accusing [note, I think it was him], so Schiff allowed Hill to respond to his remarks. This was a masterclass in why she’s a diplomat. She managed to make her point, defend her character, clarify his inaccurate claims, while at the same time making him think he was being complimented. Looool. Later a Dem committee member even called out how Hill had to tolerate so much mansplaining.
. Hill confirmed everything we knew already but suffered no fools while she was at it. She implicated Bolton many times as one of the -good guys- who held firm that what T45, Mulvaney, Giuliani, Sondland were doing was wrong and would have no part in it. Bolton was also the one who recommended she speak to NSC counsel pronto.
. Hill knocked down GOP attempts to disparage Lt Col Vindman, saying he was an expert on foreign policy but not experienced in how the situation had become so politicized. It wasn't a reflection of her opinion on his overall competence or employee performance.
. Hill addressed the abomination of smearing Marie Yovanovitch’s character and service. She said it’s fine if any potus wants to replace an Ambassador, but it was unacceptable that T45 and his cronies smeared MV for no reason. They could’ve replaced her without doing that. It clearly drew the conclusion that MV was attacked because she’s a woman and to proactively threaten her from speaking out.
. In very specific detail, Hill outlined all the conversations that led her to meet with NSC lawyers and then subsequently resign. She never let herself get caught up in speculation outside her purview.

Aside from repeating what was already public (that T45 asked about investigations and Sondland’s response), the call also included conversation about A$AP Rocky, playing the race card, and the Kardashians, so that happened.
. Sidebar but Bolton quit-was-fired in a curious manner on 10 Sept. The military aid to Ukraine was released on 11 Sept, ostensibly by this fallout. Either by Bolton getting it initiated the day before, going around T45, or by T45 realizing he's toast because of whistleblower fallout. Bolton was against their shenanigans on this topic. But he has not agreed to testify to the House, and has a book deal in the works, and [today] he just re-joined Twitter. Because of course.
