JoJo's comeback begins with a Grammy nomination for 'Say So'

Lost in all the pop Grammy news yesterday, PJ Morton and JoJo's duet 'Say So' was nominated for Best R&B Song. It is technically a songwriter's award, but who cares. Given everything she has gone through and how often people on this site have wondered why she still bothered to carry on with her career, what an amazing achievement. It seems like a stepping stone to greater things.

Icymi Recap From Yesterday

Omg 15 hours impeachment and debate combined

. Gordon Sondland knocked out TRE45ON, Pompeo, Mulvaney, Volker, Pence, Giuliani with Thor’s hammer and it was glorious. GS testified once in private. Then he heard about other testimony, so he declared new statements before his transcript was released. Then he agreed to testify publicly. Then he refused to provide his opening remarks to the WH. Then he came and threw e.v.e.r.y.b.o.d.y under the bus. Loool 4ever. Shock and Awe.

. Rudy Colludy was front and center during a lot of the conversation because he was essentially the main henchman. GS said that the three amigos basically -tolerated- Rudy Colludy but that all their marching orders came through him, on behalf of T45. When challenged by GOP that T45 never said directly to GS all these demands, GS was basically, well 2+2=4 what other conclusion is supposed to be drawn. Meanwhile Rudy Colludy was tweeting and deleting and tweeting during the hearings. But he has said repeatedly on twitter and in live interviews that he was operating on behalf of T45 as his personal lawyer and in coordination with the State Dept.

. GS said there was a quid pro quo. GS said everyone was in the loop. You’re in the loop. You’re the loop. Everyone’s in the loop. GS got wiffly waffly during cross examination but my crush Maloney brought the smackdown, telling him to knock it off, and that it took 3x to get him to finally tell the truth. Bloop.

. Zelensky being pressured to go on CNN to talk about an investigation was mostly for show [which ultimately never happened], further proving that it was for personal political reasons, not foreign policy. Just the discussion of an investigation was supposed to be Biden Burisma = Butheremails, whether an actual investigation ever took place.

. It was a long day but that’s the gist of GS testimony. Then TRE45ON said idontknowhim.gif with his block capital letters written with a sharpie. Turns out GS said he had more than 20 conversations with T45 with only a handful related to Ukraine. Pompeo was a petulant child, claiming he wasn’t watching and that a reporter whose job it is, is to report news, wasn’t doing their job by asking him impeachment questions. Pence put out a dontblameme statement. And blah di blah.

. The afternoon sessions revealed a few important points re/timeline. Yes the WH had learned about the whistleblower report on the day Sondland was checking with T45 and came back hours later saying -no quid pro quo- which T45 didn’t even know what those words meant, and was on purpose because they realized they needed to cover their tracks (too late).

. The call from the restaurant between Sondland and T45 that the State Dept staffer overheard, [that Zelensky was on board with the bribery conditions], Sondland said he’s not a note-taker but it sounded like something he would say.

. Ukraine asked about the military aid on the July 25 call, because they had already heard there was a delay

. So, basically every GOP talking point was destroyed. The aid was released because the WH got caught. Attempted crime is still a crime.

Testify!

List of those expected to testify

Day 5 Thursday 21 November
Morning, Fiona Hill, former National Security Council for Soviet Union, Russian, and European Affairs
Morning, David Holmes, State Department counselor of affairs for US Embassy in Ukraine

Future testimony TBD

Impeachment Fun Facts

. Impeachment is a political recourse, not a legal recourse

. The House votes to Impeach. A simple majority 51% is all it takes to send the article(s) of impeachment to the Senate for a trial. Democrats have enough votes without bipartisan support.

. The Senate holds the trial to Remove. A 2/3rd super majority is required to Remove a President from office. It would take ~20 Republicans to break ranks. Public opinion as hearings progress will influence how the House and Senate votes.

. The House can vote to Impeach on some or all articles but the Senate still acquit. It can’t be reversed, and still goes on permanent record until the earth no longer exists. Votes for or against will be used in campaigns for 2020 election.

. Nixon was never Impeached. He resigned before the articles of Impeachment were put to House floor vote. VP Ford became President, and the next election saw a significant shift of Dems winning seats plus Carter won the next election.

. Clinton was Impeached by the House but acquitted by the Senate. His approval rating went up. Despite Gore winning the popular vote, Bush43 was appointed President by the Supreme Court after the contested battle of electoral votes in Florida, because ~Florida.

Marie Kondo wants you to buy more stuff!

De-cluttering queen Marie Kondo has launched an online shop as part of her website - just in time for the holidays! Take a look at some of the items that might spark joy for you:

Tuning Fork & Rose Quartz Crystal Set

Shiatsu Stick

Motivation Mist

Bottle Opener

Computer Brush

Wooden Plate

Leather Slippers

Gem Water Bottle

Mini Soap

Candle Holder

Predictably, there have been a flurry of articles published expressing shock that the guru of tidying and organization appears to be encouraging consumerism. An article in The Atlantic titled "Marie Kondo Goes Full Goop" compares Kondo to Gwyneth Paltrow, saying "Like Gwyneth Paltrow’s luxury-wellness emporium, Goop, KonMari also occasionally veers bizarrely pseudoscientific. Air fresheners promise to inspire motivation or romance. A rose quartz comes with a tuning fork to bonk against it, “to amplify the healing properties of crystals.” Look closely, and you’ll see evidence that the student might one day become the teacher. Goop sells $80 gem-containing water bottles, claiming that the crystals imbue the bottles’ contents with good vibes. Kondo also sells a gem-containing bottle, and it costs $98."

Twitter joked about Kondo's new venture:

However, Kondo anticipated these reactions and placed a prominent quote on the web shop "The goal of tidying is to make room for meaningful objects, people and experiences. I can think of no greater happiness in life than being surrounded only by the things I love.” She has previously clarified that her methods do not strive for minimalism or getting rid of all of one's possessions: "That's a complete misconception... What's important is not necessarily quantity, but understanding what quantity works for you." She also stated that "Tidying is not about looking for things to discard. But rather about things you want to keep in your life. Things that you want to cherish. Things that you love. Those are the things that I should be selecting."

Criticism of Kondo's shop elicited defense from her fans, many of whom felt that Kondo was being treated unfairly due to racism:

This, of course, led to a bit of backlash-against-the-backlash:

Amanda Mull is the author of the Atlantic article, which also discussed other celebrity entrepreneurs like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Simpson, Kanye West, Chrissy Teigen, Rihanna, Jennifer Lawrence & Jeremy Renner.

Goldlink: "Fuck Grammys til the day I die"

Rapper Goldlink took to Twitter to express his disgust over the Grammy nominations. He explains why he will no longer support The Grammy’s and their continued refusal to recognize black art.

He captioned the post: "Honestly, its fuck Grammys til the day I die. I am no longer participating in that wild ass slave ass political ass cheating ass game any longer. The lack of relevance you have just solidified today is unbelievable. Tyler got one fuckin nomination in a category he didn’t even participate in knowing damn well he deserved album of the year. Burna Boy deserves more, Koffee deserves more. DaBaby couldn’t “qualify” for best new artist apparently because he had “mixtapes” in the past. No nod to Solange for taking a risk pushing the boundaries when nobody else was brave enough to do so. There’s not even a category for internationally black artist at all. Wtf do you think these kids learn when you tell them there black art isn’t good enough? Or isn’t noticed at all? I’ve just gotten to a point after three years of being silent on this topic, that my value is much beyond what closed door establishments have been giving us. Even how our peers are voting against us. I cannot partake."

The backstory:
- In 2017, Selena started dating The Weeknd months after he and Bella Hadid broke up. They both unfollowed each other on Instagram and got the attention of fans and the media for doing so.
- There was also a blind item about Bella calling Selena a rude name at the Met Gala that same year
- Selena and The Weeknd broke up in October 2017 (and then he promptly got back together with Bella)
- This November, Selena re-followed Bella on Instagram.

The drama:
- Selena commented "Stunning 😍" on one of Bellas's Instagram pictures
- Bella deleted the post soon after
- When a fan account pointed out that the post was deleted, Selena commented "That sucks 😢"
- Selena later commented a second time, saying "I shouldn't of spoken without knowing the truth. I'm sorry. Please don't be hurtful. She is a wonderful person, and it was all a misunderstanding."

https://instagram.com/p/B5BZlwzFG1J

After the deletion of the Insta pic and Selena's reaction made the news, Bella apparently "went out of her way" to contact Selena and explain that she didn't delete the picture because of her comment, she deleted because she didn't like the picture.

On ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande:“I don't ever make public statements about relationships 'cause I just don't think it's right, you know? I usually express how I feel about anything through work. So, I hope she's well. I hope she's very happy. And that's pretty much it. And print doesn't usually age well.”

On Pop Stars and the LGBTQ community:“Yeah. I really feel like I have to be careful when I'm saying this, but I do feel like a lot of women in entertainment use gay men as props. If you really listen to any of the songs that they're doing, or any of the things that they're doing, it's to promote them[selves]. It's rarely for the LGBT community. It's to make them look good. Like, how cool they are that they're hanging out with gay people.”
