Because one nostalgia post wasn't enough

CBS typically cancels its lowest rated sitcom each season, so rookie sitcom Partners has been certain to be canceled from the day its ratings stumbled out of the gate. It's likely still on the air because of the economic reality for stocking up on replacement shows I wrote about in the ABC post this week.

Although CBS could have put Rules of Engagement in its slot quickly the same way they did for How To Be A Gentleman last season. Perhaps they have other plans for Rules, or perhaps there's some problem with mid-season sitcom Friend Me that we don't know about. CBS' future actions this season may shed light on why, or we may never know.

CBS’ Partners last night sustained the steepest week-to-week drop of any Monday program, falling 14 percent in the demo to a 1.8 — the freshman sitcom’s lowest rating to date — while holding steady in total audience (with 5.6 million viewers).

Being a computer geek just got a little sexier.

Oxford Dictionaries announced Monday the Oxford Dictionaries USA Word of the Year for 2012 is GIF.

If you're not familiar with the verb, it's defined as "a compressed file format for images that can be used to create simple, looping animations," according to Katherine Martin, Head of the U.S. Dictionaries Program at Oxford University Press USA.

After popping up everywhere from PEOPLE.com to Tumblr, the word had an amazing year.

The tech-savvy term beat out some fierce competition, including Eurogeddon (the potential financial collapse of the Eurozone), Superstorm (an unusually large and destructive storm), YOLO ("you only live once"), Nomophobia (anxiety caused by being without one's mobile phone) and more.

LOL at People's n00b-Tumblr-user-esque attempt at making GIFs.

Is ‘The Judge’ the project that will see Jack Nicholson return to the big screen for the first time since 2010′s ‘How Do You Know’? Director David Dobkin is currently trying to get Nicholson to star as Robert Downey Jr.’s father in the upcoming drama.

It’s been two years since Jack Nicholson graced the big screen in ‘How Do You Know,’ and before that, he hadn’t starred in a film for three years with 2007′s ‘The Bucket List.’ Nicholson has become very picky in his old age, and rightfully so — the man’s earned it. And we can’t even recall the last time we saw his sunglasses holding it down at the Oscars. But we might be seeing Nicholson again very soon.

THR reports that director David Dobkin is seeking Nicholson for his latest film, ‘The Judge,’ starring and produced by Robert Downey Jr., in which the ‘Iron Man‘ star will play a successful lawyer who goes home to his small town (aren’t they all?) for his mother’s funeral, only to find out that his father has been suffering from Alzheimer’s and is suspected of killing his mother. The big shot attorney will have to defend his father in a case that will inevitably change his life, making him a better person, and so on — you know how these things go.

Nicholson notoriously passed on playing the part of mobster Frank Costello in Martin Scorsese‘s ‘The Departed’ several times before meetings with both Scorsese and star Leonardo DiCaprio changed his mind.

Jack Nicholson: America’s favorite grumpy old grandpa. Sorry we’re not sorry, Clint Eastwood.

    Reid in Episode 12 'Zugzwang'

    Info on this ep:

Executive producer Erica Messer tells me that episode 10 and 12 will both inform audiences about who Reid's mystery woman is and show us a bit more of her unique relationship with Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler). (Also, she will be unmasked!)

“Episodes 10 and 12 are the really big ones for [audiences] to see this character who we all know and love actually feel emotion for another person in a way that is not typical of him,” she says. “I think what we’ve all promised you guys is that it’s not going to be a typical love story or anything we’ve seen on this show. And I think Matthew would argue that you haven’t seen a story like this at all.”

In both episodes, she adds, the show will follow up in the information audiences learned in episode 4 — that the mysterious character is “running from someone and something.” And naturally, Messer teases, “her journey collides with the team.”

At times it may seem like super busy Rihanna is in two places at once, but now she can be! A new wax figure of the star was unveiled at Madame Tussauds at the Venetian in Las Vegas on Tuesday (November 13).

The “Umbrella” singer’s lifelike copy wore a semi-sheer, white one-legged leotard with white heeled boots and short red hair as she poses with a microphone in hand. Later in the afternoon, a second wax figure was revealed at the famed museum in Hollywood, CA. In this life-like depiction, RiRi dons a colorful, bedazzled two-piece with bright red hair.

Pippa Middleton has reportedly refused to do any promotion interviews for her book Celebrate as she fears embarrassing her sister Kate and brother-in-law Prince William because the book has managed to sell only 5,000 copies, despite her 4,00,000-pound advance.

Two weeks ago, the 29-year-old socialite helped publisher Penguin launch her party planning book in a blaze of publicity.

The book is being sold for a discounted price of 12 pounds and 13 pounds, down from it’s initial price of 25 pounds.

The book has slumped to 177 in Amazon’s UK book charts, and Penguin is in danger of failing to recoup its generous advance.

In America, the book was ranked at 303 by Amazon.

    Food and drink:

"You can cut up your chicken into portions consisting of the drumstick, thigh, breast and wing."

"I like breakfast. A good morning meal brightens any day."

"Depending on what vegetables are in season, serve them freshly boiled or steamed on the side."

"A really late start warrants brunch, in lieu of lunch."

"There is something very British about tea."

"Games are not only fun but are also useful for keeping children at the table."

"Don't forget to put a pitcher of water and glasses on the table or a nearby side table if there's no room."

"Do designate a space for guests' coats. Empty hooks or coat racks so guests can use them, leave a number of spare hangers on stair banisters or open a bedroom for the purpose."

"Do use ordinary jars and pitchers for flowers if you've run out of vases."

"[Star-gazing] is best in pitch darkness on a very clear night, and can be exciting even for quite young children."

"Make a checklist—it's otherwise too easy to forget essentials, and it's useful to have when you arrive home to make sure nothing is missing."

"Keep your campfire a manageable size, making sure water is always nearby just in case."

    New Year's Eve:

"Although each country has its own traditional customs and superstitions, it's a universal experience as people wait for the first day of the new year to reach them."

"Don't forget to have some bubbly for midnight toasts."

"As the clock strikes midnight, link arms with friends and family and sing in the new year to 'Auld Lang Syne.' Pop corks and toast the year ahead."
    Valentine's Day:

"[F]lowers are a traditional Valentine's token, and red roses are the classic symbol of romance, be it a dozen hand tied in a beautiful bouquet or simply a single stem."

"Switch off the television to play cards or a board game for two. Backgammon is a personal favorite, but I always forget how to set up pieces on a board, so use the photograph [of a set board included in Celebrate] to avoid any potential disagreements."

"A well-wrapped gift helps express how much thought you've put into it. Don't forget to remove the price tag from the gift..."

"Place the present on the paper to gauge how much you will need, then cut to length."

When former drug dealer-turned-rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson named his debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin', one can't imagine he was talking about playing salesman on QVC.

He was on QVC this weekend, sniffing perfume and selling his STREET brand wireless headphones. The headphone business is a lucrative one dominated by Dr. Dre's Beats By Dre brand and everyone from Jay-Z to the enterprising businessman is looking for a piece.

It appeared to be working when the rapper was at the home shopping channel's West Chester campus.

First, the rapper talked about what he likes in a woman, including how she smells and what she wears.

Somewhere in the middle there was a mention of headphones.

The show's entire inventory, as well as some limited edition models, sold out in a matter of minutes.

"I just made 177,000 dollars in 9min on QVC.can some one hate on me so I can know this is real life.#SMSaudio," Can someone hate on me so I can know this is real life." tweeted 50 (@50Cent).

Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson of One Direction admit that they're good friends with newly single pop star Justin Bieber, but the British band gets more attention from girls than The Biebs does.

Apparently, there's no competition between the guys, but One Direction do claim to have more female fans. They have one simple explanation for this:

"Well, there's five of us," Harry said, making complete sense. If each boy drew as many fans as Justin Bieber then they would beat him out 5 times over!

Luckily, they all support each other and One Direction even went to see Justin Bieber in concert while they were in New York this week.

The group also claims thatNiall Horan is the most popular with the ladies which seems strange since every time you pick up a tabloid Harry Styles is rumored to be with a new girl.

What do you think of the fact that One Direction score more girls than The Biebs?

Solange Knowles says bright lipstick is what "works" for her.

The sibling of Destiny's Child singer Beyoncé Knowles revealed the secrets of her distinctive bold style.

Solange isn't a slave to beauty trends, preferring to go with what she knows suits her best.

"I'd much rather wear lipstick than foundation, eyeshadow or anything else," Solange stated to the UK edition of Marie Claire magazine. "It works for me. I feel like orange is universal. I wear it throughout summer, autumn and winter..."

The star has been signed as the new muse for French label Kenzo. The company's creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon believe Solange, who is a singer, DJ and model, is the perfect face for the brand's new diverse and "cool" direction.

Solange doesn't follow strict style rules herself, although she has favourite designers who she returns to for failsafe wardrobe options.

"[My favourite labels are] Kenzo, Opening Ceremony, Suno, J. Crew, Diane von Furstenberg and Tibi," Solange revealed. "Recently, I've been wearing a lot of denim. I never thought that I'd love denim, and now I can't get enough of it. People always associate me with mixing prints, but actually I love a head-to-toe print, too."

Solange has some hard and fast rules for pulling off all-over pattern. Her top tip for making mismatched prints work is to remember to match the material in your outfit.

''I don't have a formula. I think I've been doing it for so long now that I have a good sense about what works and what doesn't. One tip is to try and be aware of fabrics," the style icon explained. "If I'm wearing silk trousers, I try to keep the top silk. If you're mixing prints, having a uniform texture helps.''

Survivor Philippines: Episode 9 - Little Miss Perfect

Reward was split in to two teams of 4, leaving Abi out of the challenge. Denise, Malcolm, Penner, and Carter won reward.

At the individual immunity challenge, Mike Skupin won individual immunity.

Artis was voted out with 5 votes over Penner, who received 4 votes.

THANK YOU SKUPIN. I cheered so loudly when that last name was revealed and he had flipped his vote. I wish Lisa would make a move. This isn't going to help her if she makes the final TC.

Penner read my fucking mind when he was telling Lisa about what story do we want to see. Who do we want to see go further in the game. It was genius.

    And I still hate Abi.

Spider-Man 2 is looking for its Harry Osborn, the college-aged kid who befriends Peter Parker but ultimately becomes Spider-Man’s deadliest enemy. James Franco played the part in the Sam Raimi trilogy. By bringing gravitas to what easily could have been a second-banana role, Franco parlayed the movies into a significant film career -- and an Oscars co-hosting gig.

The Osborn part, which originally called for a bigger, athletic actor, is being reconfigured and now is targeting a more “dark and edgy" actor , according to two insiders. Names bandied about include Brady Corbet (Melancholia), Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) and Alden Ehrenreich (the upcoming Beautiful Creatures), though there could be other names in the mix because the character is evolving.

Twenty-six directors. Twenty-six ways to die. The ABCs of Death is perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children’s educational books, the motion picture is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death.

Boldly going where only Christopher Nolan has gone before, the first nine minutes of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness will debut on roughly 500 IMAX screens starting Dec. 14, Paramount Pictures announced Wednesday. The 3-D footage will play in front of IMAX exhibitions of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Abrams shot several sequences of the sequel to his 2009 hit using IMAX’s large-format cameras, following in the footsteps of Nolan’s IMAX sequences in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, and Brad Bird’s IMAX work on Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol. The opening sequences of both Dark Knight films also unspooled on IMAX screens in the December before their wide release, the former in front of Will Smith’s I Am Legend, the latter in front of Bird’s Mission: Impossible 4. This is the first time, however, that an extended preview of a film has played in IMAX 3-D.

Star Trek Into Darkness warps into movie theaters on May 17, 2013.
