Oprah Winfrey Shows Her Flawless Taste Joins Plan B/Ava Duverney MLK Drama 'Selma' as Producer

David Oyelowo, who acted with Winfrey in "Lee Daniels' The Butler," is starring as Martin Luther King Jr. in the civil rights drama.

PARK CITY -- Oprah Winfrey is coming on board to act as a producer on Selma, the drama about the historic civic rights marches that has David Oyelowo portraying Martin Luther King Jr.

The move puts her in company with Brad Pitt, who already is on board as a producer via his Plan B production company, and its execs Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. Plan B was behind 12 Years a Slave, the slave drama that just nabbed 10 Oscar nominations.

Also producing Selma is Christian Coulson, who won an Oscar for producing Slumdog Millionaire. Pathe, the company which financed last year's Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, is financing Selma, and the company’s Cameron McCracken also is producing.

Selma details the attempts of black marchers to walk from Selma to Montgomery, the capital of Alabama, in 1965 in order to gain voting rights, only to be beaten back by police. It took the organizers three attempts to make the journey as marchers swelled in numbers each time. It was also a critical time in King’s life.

"It’s a subject matter close to her heart," Ava DuVernay, who is directing the movie, tells The Hollywood Reporter. "The producers are behind some of the most forward-thinking movies of last year, and they are all coming together."

Just when you thought this day couldn't get any better with all the Marvel news coming out, well another trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been classified and you won't believe the length of the trailer.

Now according to the British Board of Film Classification, the third official trailer for the Captain America sequel will run at 11 minutes and 15 seconds. That's quite long for a trailer, my guess it's a prologue or the 10 minutes that was shown at the premier of Marvel's All The Hail King. Whether or not this is released online remains to be seen.

Lucy Liu said she will direct an upcoming episode of "Elementary," which has been picked up for seasons three and four. Syndication has also been locked up. "We have a long journey ahead of us," she said.

Even the Sherlockian actress has been surprised by its success. "You always expect it to be canceled. You usually expect to do it for three or six months just like a movie and then you move onto the next project. It's actually kind of strange to be in one place working with the same crew. We're forming a wonderful family that way."

“I know all the songs to The Little Mermaid,” Matt said (via Metro). “Only because I have four daughters, you understand.”

Aaron Paul Wants In, Dean Norris Out For 'Better Call Saul'

If Aaron Paul gets his way, “Breaking Bad” fans can expect to see Jesse Pinkman calling on Saul Goodman — and perhaps calling him some names — in the spinoff series centered on a sleazy lawyer.

Paul says he’d had “serious talks” with “Better Call Saul” co-creator Vince Gilligan about returning to his character, a low-level drug dealer before he linked up with Bryan Cranston’s Walter White to produce methamphetamine.

“Anything Vince is involved with, I’m there,” Paul said in an interview while promoting the upcoming “Need For Speed” movie. “I owe him my entire career. And the idea of jumping into the skin of Jesse Pinkman again in his lighter days — because it’s all a prequel — it would be fun.”

The Emmy-winning “Breaking Bad” ended last year after five seasons. Gilligan told reporters last month that he’d be asking its actors to make cameos in “Better Call Saul,” which will star Bob Odenkirk and is set to premiere in November on AMC.

It’s unclear if Cranston will make an appearance. One actor who definitely won’t be involved is Dean Norris, who played White’s DEA agent brother-in-law Hank Schrader. Norris is starring in the series “Under the Dome,” set to premiere its second season on CBS this summer.

“I don’t think they’ll let me do a little cable show,” he said in an interview this week while promoting the film “Small Time.”

“I think that experience was that experience. I’m not a big fan of kind of revisiting something that has already been done. But I think it’s going to be awesome. So I can’t wait to see it.”

Lupita Nyong'o Delivers Moving 'Black Women in Hollywood' Acceptance Speech (MUST READ)

Newcomer Lupita Nyong'o was honored with the Best Breakthrough Performance Award at the 7th annual Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon for her work in critically acclaimed film, 12 Years a Slave, presented by fellow actress, Alfre Woodard. The following is her acceptance speech in full:

I wrote down this speech that I had no time to practice so this will be the practicing session. Thank you Alfre, for such an amazing, amazing introduction and celebration of my work. And thank you very much for inviting me to be a part of such an extraordinary community. I am surrounded by people who have inspired me, women in particular whose presence on screen made me feel a little more seen and heard and understood. That it is ESSENCE that holds this event celebrating our professional gains of the year is significant, a beauty magazine that recognizes the beauty that we not just possess but also produce.

I want to take this opportunity to talk about beauty, Black beauty, dark beauty. I received a letter from a girl and I’d like to share just a small part of it with you: "Dear Lupita," it reads, "I think you’re really lucky to be this Black but yet this successful in Hollywood overnight. I was just about to buy Dencia’s Whitenicious cream to lighten my skin when you appeared on the world map and saved me."

My heart bled a little when I read those words, I could never have guessed that my first job out of school would be so powerful in and of itself and that it would propel me to be such an image of hope in the same way that the women of The Color Purple were to me.

I remember a time when I too felt unbeautiful. I put on the TV and only saw pale skin, I got teased and taunted about my night-shaded skin. And my one prayer to God, the miracle worker, was that I would wake up lighter-skinned. The morning would come and I would be so excited about seeing my new skin that I would refuse to look down at myself until I was in front of a mirror because I wanted to see my fair face first. And every day I experienced the same disappointment of being just as dark as I was the day before. I tried to negotiate with God, I told him I would stop stealing sugar cubes at night if he gave me what I wanted, I would listen to my mother's every word and never lose my school sweater again if he just made me a little lighter. But I guess God was unimpressed with my bargaining chips because He never listened.

And when I was a teenager my self-hate grew worse, as you can imagine happens with adolescence. My mother reminded me often that she thought that I was beautiful but that was no conservation, she’s my mother, of course she’s supposed to think I am beautiful. And then…Alek Wek. A celebrated model, she was dark as night, she was on all of the runways and in every magazine and everyone was talking about how beautiful she was. Even Oprah called her beautiful and that made it a fact. I couldn’t believe that people were embracing a woman who looked so much like me, as beautiful. My complexion had always been an obstacle to overcome and all of a sudden Oprah was telling me it wasn’t. It was perplexing and I wanted to reject it because I had begun to enjoy the seduction of inadequacy. But a flower couldn’t help but bloom inside of me, when I saw Alek I inadvertently saw a reflection of myself that I could not deny. Now, I had a spring in my step because I felt more seen, more appreciated by the far away gatekeepers of beauty. But around me the preference for my skin prevailed, to the courters that I thought mattered I was still unbeautiful. And my mother again would say to me you can’t eat beauty, it doesn’t feed you and these words plagued and bothered me; I didn’t really understand them until finally I realized that beauty was not a thing that I could acquire or consume, it was something that I just had to be.

And what my mother meant when she said you can’t eat beauty was that you can’t rely on how you look to sustain you. What is fundamentally beautiful is compassion for yourself and for those around you. That kind of beauty enflames the heart and enchants the soul. It is what got Patsey in so much trouble with her master, but it is also what has kept her story alive to this day. We remember the beauty of her spirit even after the beauty of her body has faded away.

And so I hope that my presence on your screens and in the magazines may lead you, young girl, on a similar journey. That you will feel the validation of your external beauty but also get to the deeper business of being beautiful inside.

There is no shame in Black beauty.

Michael Sam, the first openly gay football player likely to make an NFL team, has a penis. And some people believe that his penis became erect at this week's NFL Scouting Combine, that there is photographic evidence of said openly gay erect penis, and that this is somehow a "nightmare" for the NFL.

If you squint really hard at this footage of Sam working out, you still probably won't see his alleged gay nightmare boner—just an elite athlete with a penis, doing his job at a facility full of other elite athletes with penises.

Bryan Singer Says There Is No Scarlet Witch In 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past'

$

In an interview with Den of Geek, director Bryan Singer said that no one should expect to see the Scarlet Witch in X-Men: Days of Future Past. When asked if the Witch was in the film, Singer responded by saying, “There may be a reference, but no, no. There are 26 main characters, and with seven of them, there were a lot of restrictions in terms of schedules.”

In fact, it seems like the Scarlet Witch’s brother, Quicksilver, doesn’t even have too large of a role in the film. Singer said, “He was in our script quite early. It’s not a big part in the script, he’s not there throughout the picture. Super speed’s been played throughout the series – Twilight uses it…I had some ideas of how to do the power, the speed, that I hadn’t seen before.
So I started development with super high-speed photography and stuff like that, so yeah. It’s a fun character.”

So I guess it turns out the little girl in the photo with Quicksilver is a homage at best. In X-Men: Days of Future Past, the ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.

Mike Epps Talks REPENTANCE, Working Opposite Anthony Mackie, and More.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Mike Epps is a comedian at heart and one of the funniest comic actors to emerge into the Hollywood scene, but in his latest film, Repentance, he undertakes a serious role as Ben, the loyal brother of Tommy Carter (Anthony Mackie), a spiritual therapist whose successful book attracts the attention of a profoundly disturbed man (Forest Whitaker).

Opening in select theaters on February 28th, the horror-thriller directed by Philippe Caland also stars Sanaa Lathan, Nicole Ari Parker, and Ariana Neal.

How did this project come together for you?
MIKE EPPS: The script was sent to me, and I read it, and I really enjoyed my character, Ben, after I read it. It was something that really appealed to me because it was so different from anything I have ever done. I’m a comedian at heart. I tell jokes, do stand-up. I’ve played in a lot of comedic films, but this definitely stood out.

Can you talk a little bit about your character and story arc?
EPPS: Ben is the brother of Tommy. Tommy is a motivational book writer. Ben definitely came from the hard knocks of life. He’s been to prison and he’s sort of a deadbeat kind of a guy. He does odd jobs and he’s trying to make ends meet. But he’s definitely a fan of his brother’s work. He didn’t mind taking a back seat to what his brother was and who he was.

Was the spiritual undertone of the film part of what you found appealing about the story?
EPPS: It was. I mean, everybody deals with their secrets in some sort of a way. I don’t think there’s any human being walking around on this earth that doesn’t keep something to himself, whether it’s good or bad. I think there are levels of keeping secrets. In this movie, it was really rough. It was a tough secret, but I think people are going to relate to this film on the strength of that alone.

What were the most difficult scenes for you to shoot and how was it working with Philippe Caland, the director?
EPPS: Philippe was great, first and foremost. Philippe was such a great aspect to us as the actors, because he had previously shot this film before and played the character that Forest Whitaker played. It was easy for him to convey to us what was done and what was said and what was needed. The most challenging part of this film for me were the torture scenes which were really heavy, because sometimes I couldn’t channel what feeling to have and what really made me tick. I didn’t know whether I was scared or angry or upset.

You had some intense scenes with Anthony Mackie. How did the two of you work together to strike the right tone?
EPPS: Anthony Mackie is definitely a great actor, and to work with him, you definitely have to step your game up. He alone gave me an incentive to really work hard and want to do good in this film because he’s such a great actor.

How was it shooting on location in New Orleans?
EPPS: It was really good. I’ve shot movies down there before like Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins. People are very warm and receptive. Food is good. Oh man, I ate so much gumbo down there! I was gumbo-ed out! Etouffee-ed out! The environment can be kind of rough sometimes because it’s so real. After Hurricane Katrina, people are a little different. The streets are different.

In this film, you have African American actors in all the lead roles but it’s a universal story that can appeal to a diversity of people. Do you think it’s becoming less and less important today who is playing what because content is more and more reflecting our diversity?
EPPS: Like I said, this film here is a remake of a European film in which Philippe played the starring role. I think sometimes when you get certain actors and certain artists together, they tend to take away the color line of it. When the story is good and the performances are good, you lose sight of the color. You just really enjoy it and you walk away with a neutral feeling about it.

You have a very diverse career. What do you enjoy doing the most: your stand-up comedy, acting, producing, writing, rapping or all of it?
EPPS: I do it all. You can get really bored in this business, and I think that’s one of the reasons why I’ve challenged myself so many times in different areas because you can get really bored and stagnated in one area. So, I do a lot of different things to keep myself occupied. As we know in this business, it’s a ‘hurry up and wait’ business and you have to really wait sometimes in some areas. I just keep myself busy. When one thing stops, the other one is rolling.

What do you have coming up next that you’re excited for audiences to see?
EPPS: I have a tour coming out, Mike Epps: After Dark Tour, which starts in March by Live Nation that will be in every major city in every B and C market. I also have a movie coming out called The Nina Simone Story (Nina). I played a little bit of Richard Pryor in it. It’s starring Zoe Saldana. So, I got a couple of things down the chute.

Man Sues McDonalds for $1.5 MILLION: "They Only Gave Me One Napkin"

$

0

McDonalds has made a new golden arch enemy -- a California man is suing the company for $1.5 MILLION ... because he says he only got ONE NAPKIN with his meal.

Webster Lucas claims he was stiffed on napkins at the Mickey D's in Pacoima, CA on January 29th -- after ordering a Quarter Pounder Deluxe -- and when he went up to the counter to ask for more, he was rudely rebuffed by the manager ... who insisted he already got some.

According to his lawsuit, Lucas -- who is black -- then retorted, "I should have went to eat at the Jack-in-the-Box because I didn't come here to argue over napkins. I came here to eat."

That's when Lucas says things got racist -- claiming the manager (a Mexican-American) mumbled something about "you people."

Lucas subsequently emailed the general manager to complain -- insisting he couldn't work because of the "undue mental anguish" he was suffering as a result of the napkin debacle -- and says he was insultingly offered free burgers in return.

Lucas wants to super size instead -- $1.5 million.

Everybody has a favorite movie score , character theme , or tv opening song right ?

Well this is one of those posts where once again you may want to break out a pen and paper or bookmark some of the following youtube videos of truly well done covers / remixes of some memorable theme songs in the gaming , television , and film world.

1. Air Man ( Mega Man 2 / Rockman World 2 )

Fans often complained about the brand new themes in this Gameboy port of Mega Man 2 being to high pitch and hard on the ears , but this fella delivered an incredible remix for all to enjoy.

2. Home ( The Wiz )

Manny Garcia slays the shit out of " Home " , go ahead with your Steve from Blue's Clues tease brother.

3. Sonic The Hedgehog Acoustic Medley

If you have 8 minutes to spare I highly recommend listening to this medley in it's entirety . The SuperGuitarBros hit many right in the feels with this acoustic medley , every videogame fan needs to listen to this and praise it to the high heavens.

4. Zelda's Lullaby ( The Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time )

A very nice soft rock version of Zelda's iconic lullaby , you almost wish there were lyrics to this rendition.

5. Simple and Clean / Sanctuary ( Kingdom Hearts , Kingdom Hearts 2 )

Absolutely gorgeous mash up between the two Kingdom Hearts theme songs.

6. Someday - Kingdom Mix ( The World Ends With You , Kingdom Hearts 2 )

This is official Square Enix mix . What was originally along the lines of a punk rock song that Avril Lavigne became something much deeper and really helped set the tone not only for this particular game but what the Kingdom Hearts franchise is all about.

7. Objection !!! / Start A New Trial  ( Apollo Justice : Ace Attorney , Gyakuten Meets Orchestra )

The Ace Attorney is well known for it's top notch soundtrack amongst the fans . The series has an incredible discography with about 15 soundtracks with unique arrangements of popular themes.

8. Trouble of The World  ( Imitation of Life )

Prepare to get your life. If you are familiar with the 1959 version of " Imitation of Life " you remember the unforgettable scene when the fabulous Mahalia Jackson sings during Annie's send off ... I bet you were crying. Listen as the talentedLeandria Johnson, provides a wonderful tribute to the queen during BET'S Sunday's Best . ( BTW it was hard finding a good cover version of this song )

9. Darkwing Duck Guitar Cover

Let's Get Dangerous !!!

10. The Cartoon Medley

Another acoustic medley , this one is truly unique considering how Fredde sings a few of the theme songs in their native langauge ( some people didn't know The Smurfs were from Belgium )

11. Sailor Outer Senshi Theme ( Sailor Moon )

The Sailor Senshi theme is truly breathtaking , have a listen at this violin cover which is truly on point.

12. Colors of The Wind Violin Cover ( Pocahontas )

This rendition  truly speaks to you and conveys the meaning without any vocals.

13. " The Prayer " ( Quest For Camelot / These Are Special Times / Sogno)

Tears for days and I'm sure that Celine and Andre would appluad this performance.

14 . Once Upon A Time In December ( Anastasia )

One of the few non Disney films with a truly memorable and celebrated soundtrack .
This is a great tribute worth listening to.

15. Cartoon Medley - Straight No Chaser

A few years ago a random acapella group got ONTDERS pregnant as they made their way through the Thanksgiving Day Parade singing a christmas medley. Straight No Chaser gives the goods with this cartoon medley paying tribute to Family Guy, Looney Tunes , Gummi Bears , and many more.

16. Truly Outrageous Piano Cover ( Jem and The Holograms )

Serving some Pink Panther tease

17. The Moon Acapella ( Ducktales )

Smooth McGroove is probably well known on ONTD , however couldn't exclude him and the kitty

“Ellen DeGeneres fears she’s got a creepy house-guest in her new $40 million mansion — a ghost!” declares the National Enquirer.

According to the tabloid, the talk show host “has repeatedly been spooked by eerie noises and believes the home she shares with wife Portia de Rossi is haunted by its original owner, who died there in 2009.”

“The house had been remodeled, so Ellen thought it would have no trace of the former owner,” a so-called “pal” tells the outlet. “But she was wrong. Within a few nights of moving in, Ellen started hearing random noises, including footsteps and doors opening and closing.”

“In the middle of the night, she heard a woman’s faint cry,” claims the Enquirer source. “Ellen is totally freaked out. She hasn’t had a solid night’s sleep since she moved in.”

The tabloid’s insider says DeGeneres “doesn’t have any other explanation for the mysterious sounds and voices” than to believe it’s a ghost.

Last week, the 39-year-old actor kept a low profile while checking out of his hotel with his Burberry model girlfriend Suki Waterhouse in New York City.

It was recently announced that Bradley is attached to star and produce the upcoming adaptation of the book “American Blood,” according to Deadline.
