Disney’s ‘Rescue Rangers’ Due for Live Action Feature

0
0
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney Studios has picked up a pitch for a live-action movie based on the ’80s-’90s animated TV series Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers. This project falls in line with Disney’s recent pushes to reimagine properties from its animation catalog as blockbuster spectacles, such as Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and Robert Stromberg’s villainess POV Maleficent (out May 30 this year).

The Mouse House’s production label Mandeville Films (Muppets Most Wanted) is behind the project, which has been conceived by commercial director Robert Rugan as a live-action/CG animation hybrid a la the Alvin and the Chipmunks, Scooby-Doo and Smurfs films that have raked in big bucks in the last several years. Currently, Rugan is also developing a couple WB projects, and his credits include the contemporary retake Alice’s Misadventures in Wonderland and the Chuck Jones-inspired live-action short Wiley vs. Rhodes.

The original Rescue Rangers was a 2D animated series created by Tad Stones and Alan Zaslove for The Disney Channel, premiering in 1989 and running for three seasons. The show recast the chipmunk comedy duo (who first appeared in Clyde Geronimi’s 1943 short Private Pluto) as the founders of a detective agency, dealing with crimes “too small” for the police to handle and serving animal clients. Serious-minded Chip and daffy Dale are assisted by Aussie mouse Monterey Jack, young mouse pilot/mechanic/inventor Gadget and Zipper the Fly in their battle against injustice.

It remains to be seen if the film will take a retro-inspired tone like Muppets or bring the classic characters into the modern age like Smurfs and Alvin. But if it’s a hit, and fans of the show aren’t too creeped out to see their heroes in CG (see Garfield, Yogi Bear) it could be interesting to see where else this strategy takes Disney. Will we be seeing a CG animated Darkwing Duck? The mind boggles.

I dunno ....

Neil Gaiman makes two television announcements.

American Gods picked up by another company after being dropped by HBO, Anansi Boys to be developed into BBC mini-series.
americangods__span

Back in November we found out the depressing news that the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s hit book American Gods was no longer in development at HBO—likely due to (or at least impacted by) their decision to go all-in with the Damon Lindelof series The Leftovers.

Now American Gods has found a new home. It’s been announced that FreemantleMedia has acquired the rights to the project, though it’s not yet known what channel you can expect to see the show on yet.

Continue reading for more, including a quote from Gaiman on what happened with HBO and how the deal with Freemantle came to be.

“A few people have asked for more background on this: HBO had an option on American Gods for several years. It went through three different pilot scripts. HBO has a limited number of slots and, after a while, passed it to Cinemax, who are in the HBO family, who decided eventually they didn’t want to do it, and the option expired, which unfortunately meant we couldn’t work with Tom Hanks’ production company Playtone any longer, as they are exclusive to HBO. However, Stefanie Berk, who had been one of the brightest stars at Playtone, had recently moved to Freemantle, and was as determined as she had been when she was at Playtone to bring American Gods to the screen. And I was impressed by her determination.”

While it’s exciting to know American Gods has found a new home, where the show actually airs will be a big deal to many, and remains the biggest question mark. Freemantle’s list of shows mainly consists of game shows like The Price is Right, Minute to Win It, and Let’s Make A Deal, reality competitions like America’s Got Talent (and the many variations around the world), American Idol (and other variations around the world), Project Runway, and The Biggest Loser, and reality shows like Deadliest Catch, Ax Men, and Ice Road Truckers.

The company is currently boosting their scripted TV division with shows in development for A&E, Spike TV, and The CW, so it will certainly be interesting to see where the newly acquired American Gods lands.

Gaiman also revealed in the same blog post he confirmed the American Gods news in that his Anansi Boys is getting a miniseries adaptation by RED Productions for BBC.

Not sure I trust anyone to do American Gods right and 'meh' at Anansi Boys.

Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson Close Deals to Return to 'Pitch Perfect 2'

Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson have closed deals to reprise their roles for Pitch Perfect 2, Universal and Gold Circle’s sequel to the 2012 musical comedy.

As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Elizabeth Banks, who produced and co-starred on the original, is directing the new movie, which has a release date of May 15, 2015.

The actresses were expected to return but both had become increasingly busy since the first film became an unexpected sensation.

Kendrick’s single "Cups" from Pitch Perfect made her a triple platinum recording artist with combined sales of a little less than 3 million units sold. She recently wrapped Disney’s adaptation of the Broadway musical Into the Woods.

Wilson, meanwhile, currently stars in the ABC comedy Super Fun Night, which she created, produces and writes. She is shooting a turn in Night at the Museum 3 and hosted the 2013 MTV Movie Awards and won the awards for Breakthrough Performance and Best Musical Moment.

Paul Brooks will produce Pitch Perfect 2 for Gold Circle Films alongside Banks and Max Handelman for their Brownstone Productions shingle.

Breaking Down The Best Picture Race

0
0

We have been busy breaking down the major categories in this year’s Academy Awards race, naming the current frontrunners for Best Actor, Actress, Director and beyond. It all has been building to the Mack Daddy of them all: Best Picture!

I’ve been opposed to the expansion of the Best Picture category from Day One. Why change from five (5) nominees to as many as 10 in a given year? You are only increasing the number of movies that – on the Monday after the Oscars – can call themselves "losers." My argument is that the category should have shifted from five nominees to three. That would increase competition. Imagine how tight this year’s Oscar race would be if Academy voters could only choose between Gravity, 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle? Now THAT’s a race!

For some movies, the nomination is the win. So let’s start with the also-rans – an odd thing to say in the Best Picture category – and end with the movie we believe will win the Oscar this year.

NO SHOT
You may be the captain now, Captain Phillips, but you are one of the three BP nominees that we don’t believe have any chance of surprising audiences and claiming Oscar’s top award. Nebraska and Her land in that crowd, as well, becoming movies that should be very happy to have an invite to the ceremony, but probably don’t have to bother preparing any speeches.

I say this because these movies haven’t won in any of the categories at major awards shows leading up to the Oscars. When it comes to Her and Captain Phillips, the movie was surprised to see Tom Hanks and Joaquin Phoenix left out of the Best Actor race… and both men carried their respective films. Nebraska earned several important nominations – including Actor, Director and Supporting Actress. But the lack of any real support leading up to the Oscars means the black-and-white drama lands in the "No Shot" classification this year.

DARK HORSES
The next batch of Best Picture contenders all have elements that we could point to and argue "Possibly," but the momentum swings haven’t happened over the course of the lengthy Oscar marathon.

Dallas Buyers Club, for example, has been collecting numerous acting awards over the course of the season for Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto, and I view both of them as frontrunners in their respective categories. But 2013 has been a rare year where Oscar love looks like it’s going to be spread to multiple films, meaning Picture is probably out of the question. There has been some chatter that Philomena, which is beloved, could connect with the older members of the Academy – of which there are several – and the movie could somehow rise up and capitalize on a vote-split caused by movies like Hustle and Gravity. But that likely isn’t happening. The Wolf of Wall Street has a passionate, vocal fan base. Even though it runs 3 hours, it has crossed the $100 million mark domestically. It has a chance… but the chance feels slim.

CONTENDERS
Gravity and American Hustle If it were up to me, Gravity would win. It’s the best movie of the year, and the fact that Alfonso Cuaron has been collecting Best Director trophies left and right leads me to believe that the blockbuster awards contender has a solid shot at prevailing at the Academy Awards.

If it were up to me, American Hustle wouldn’t even be in this category. I don’t care for the movie, but I am in the EXTREME minority. Hustle cleaned up in the other categories, punching its ticket in almost every major category. Rarely do movies get nominations in categories like Picture, Director, Screenplay, every Actor category and NOT win Picture. It suggests that, across the board, it is appreciated. I still think that it’s going to lose to…

FRONTRUNNER
Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave has been a powerhouse this awards season, grabbing top awards at multiple presentations leading up to the Oscars, even as it has split support with Gravity (in the director categories) and Hustle (in the acting categories), yet still getting Picture love. So while Lupita Nyong’o could grab Best Supporting Actress, it’s likely that Chiwetel Ejiofor and McQueen could lose BUT 12 Years could take Best Picture.

Which is fine with me, for so many reasons. McQueen’s movie is brilliant, and if something has to beat Gravity (my personal favorite), then I’m glad that it’s a masterpiece like this. And I appreciate an awards slate that isn’t dominated by one film. Appreciation should be spread to movies like Wolf, Dallas Buyers, Gravity, 12 Years and, yes, American Hustle. It’s the best possible scenario on Oscar night.

Source

I was torn between Gravity and 12YAS, yet upon re-watching McQueen's newest masterpiece I am sticking with it. Don't get me wrong, Gravity is still a magnificent movie but it feels less overwhelming, powerful, grand. I also want the cast to be highlighted in some way, as they all did an amazing job contrary to some others *cough*American Hustle*cough*.

Former Obama speechwriter makes case against Woody Allen on child molestation claim

If you’ve been following the sexual abuse allegations against film director Woody Allen by Dylan Farrow and the responses from Allen’s defenders, you may be just as confused as anyone about what the truth is. One argument against Allen came yesterday from Jon Lovett, former Obama speechwriter, who cited testimony from the original case.

Allen has never been prosecuted for or convicted of the alleged misconduct. As Dylan Farrow noted:

After a custody hearing denied my father visitation rights, my mother declined to pursue criminal charges, despite findings of probable cause by the State of Connecticut – due to, in the words of the prosecutor, the fragility of the “child victim.”

Allen has strongly denied Farrow’s claims.

Nick Jonas Calls Being an Uncle "Amazing," Shares First Photo of Him Holding Baby Niece Alena Rose

Sounds as though Nick Jonas is just as excited as brother Joe about being an uncle.

"It's amazing," he told E! News Wednesday, sitting alongside Demi Lovato for a chat about her upcoming Neon Lights Tour, for which Nick is serving as creative and musical director.

"I'm actually flying right after this to meet my niece for the first time," the 21-year-old singer continued. "He [brother Kevin Jonas] in love with this baby, it's ridiculous. He sends me pictures every 10 minutes. I think it's just like the joy of his life right now, so I'm excited to go [see] him."

Kevin and wife Danielle welcomed daughter Alena Rose, their first child together, on Sunday—and, happily, they've been quite forthcoming with baby pictures.

Joe Jonas had already shared a photo of a snuggly moment with his niece, and Nick added to the album today.

"My beautiful niece Alena Rose," he captioned the pic, which features the wide-eyed infant, clad in a fabulous little onesie printed with hearts, looking intently at her uncle's face (well, we can't blame her for staring) while he's holding her on the couch.

But before he had a chance to meet her, Nick also joked with Demi and E! News' Kristina Guerrero about what topics to avoid while talking to new moms, like Danielle.

"Never bring up sleep," advised Kristina, whose own little one is 6 months old.

"I won't complain about breastfeeding with a mom, either," Demi added, holding her own for effect.

Nick reassured them, "I was not planning on bringing up boobs."

But he did plan ahead, revealing that he had gifts for mother and baby—he just needed to run home after his interview to pick them up before he went to the airport!

"I got her and my sister-in-law some good stuff," Nick said confidently.

Chris Evans will play Steve Rogers/Captain America for a third time (not counting his cameo in Thor: The Dark World) in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and a fourth time in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. But for all of the character's goodie-two-shoes personality, the actor wants him to do something different in Joss Whedon's next superhero sequel.

"This might sound crazy, but...be wrong," Evans told SFX Magazine. "Make a mistake. He's so concerned with being right. Even the struggle in this one, it's about how to be right. His biggest struggle is just being the best he can be, and if he doesn't achieve that, he really beats himself up. His moral compass is so sound, you rarely see him make a mistake. It's everyone around him dropping the ball. So it would be nice to see a little bit of human error or a human flaw, just immaturity or foolishness, an ego, something."

Farrah Abraham Starring In New Sex Tape Sequel

0
0

Despite Farrah Abraham‘s insistence that she was done with the porn industry, America hasn’t seen the last of her X-rated romps. Celebrity sex tape titans Vivid Entertainment announced today that they are releasing a sequel to her blockbuster sex tape Backdoor Teen Mom called Farrah 2: Backdoor and More, and only RadarOnline.com has all the dirty details.

A source exclusively told Radar back in September that Vivid was in possession of approximately one hour of unreleased footage from the reality TV starlet’s initial sex tape shoot with James Deen. At the time, Vivid refused to confirm or deny whether they would make use of that material. Now, a rep says that despite rumors of unreleased footage, the new feature is not the same old sex tape.

“What we are releasing next week is a completely different movie,” the rep tells Radar.

In addition, Vivid Entertainment founder and co-chairman Steven Hirsch tells Radar exclusively, “The new Farrah footage is off the charts! She could definitely teach a few porn stars some moves.

The Couples Therapy star’s latest skin flick will be released on Vivid.com on February 13 — just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The news contradicts claims from Abraham in recent weeks, insisting that she was done with the sex industry.

“It made it hard to have friends and a private life, and to trust family, who I feel used me for money,” she says. “If I went back in time, I would not have done it. The sex tape ruined my life.”

What’s more, the former Teen Mom star claims that promoting the film at sex conventions and strip clubs put her in contact with “the wrong type of people,” and she subsequently “was drugged and raped more than once,” she claims. “It was a dark time.”

Abraham has always maintained that the initial Vivid release was simply a personal sex tape gone public, but Radar has published extensive evidence proving she was in on the production all along.

#RichKids of Beverly Hills Stars Dorothy & Morgan Give Advice on How to Properly Use Instagram!!!

0
0

Before you post your next Instagram, you may want to listen to Dorothy Wang and Morgan Stewart.

The #RichKids of Beverly Hills stars know a thing or two about capturing glamorous, highly liked pictures. Lucky for us, they were able to step away from their iPhones to share a few helpful tips.

"Our Instagrams show that we're really fun, outgoing, approachable, relatable, witty, funny…only good things," they explained in the latest video from their Fabuluxe Guide series.

According to the duo, it really does take some thought to make your profile the absolute best. "Not a heavy filter," Dorothy explained when it comes to editing photos.

Morgan added you don't need "an app that makes you look like a completely different person or your like 13 pounds thinner…We saw you yesterday for lunch. You don't fucking look like that!" Oh, snap!

Finally, what are users supposed to do when it comes to making their profile public or oh-so-private? While Dorothy completely believes public is the best policy, Morgan has her concerns.

"My Instagram was private at first because I don't feel the need to just let people stalk me all day long," she says.

Jonny Takes On Haters!

On his close relationship with Dorothy:
“I’ve known Dorothy for about six years. How do you describe six years? Honestly, the way to describe it is that we’re sisters. We just really are sisters. We go through the good and the bad together. We fight like crazy but you won’t really see us fighting that long.”

On how he handles dealing with the controversy:
“I think I handle myself well because I’m the kind of person, to be honest, who doesn’t give a shit. I know it’s bad, but I’ve always been that kind of person where people are goin to say what they want to say and do what they want to do. You can’t let it affect you.”

On coming out
“I came out at the age of 16 and I was actually outed by a friend. I told someone in high school, who I thought I could trust, and she ended up telling pretty much the whole entire school. Because I grew up in such a small town of like 5,000 people, I didn’t want my parents finding out unless it came from myself. So although I wasn’t ready to tell them, I felt like I had to. I was so fortunate that when I told my parents it was more like ‘We love you. We don’t care about that and we want you to be happy.’”

On his love life:
“I am single, ready to mingle. I’ll fly to Midwest for it too. A meat and potato fed man? That’s my kind of man.”

...So are you into bears then?
“I guess I am kind of into bears… just nothing too hairy. I guess a groomed bear is what I’m kind of into. I like a man with chest hair — I mean I have chest hair. I don’t like anyone too waxed or coiffed but then again I don’t like tons of back hair. If it should be waxed, it should be waxed. I keep my things very tight.”

On whether he’d date someone with no money:
“Are you joking? That’s happened ten times over! I’ll go out with someone I fall in love with and they could be broke as a joke, but that’s not going to stop me from dating someone.”

On hobbies:
“I love to travel. It’s my favorite thing to do. So if I’m not writing or working, it’s usually because I’m traveling and that gives me my inspiration. And I’ll be honest, I’m not backpacking honey. That’s not happening for me.”

On biggest recent splurge:
I just got a new car today. It’s a CLX550 Mercedes. And it’s actually the first car I’ve purchased on my own so I’m very excited.”

On celebrity you compare yourself to:
“Ah! This is the hardest question. I’m going to go with, right now because of my mood… Jennifer Aniston. [Laughs] You wanna know why? Because she had a hard time with love and I’m kind of going through that right now. She’s got a good career and she works really hard. It took her a long time to get started but then she broke. And that’s kind of where I am too.”

Anything you want to say to haters of rich kids in general?
“Fuck off.”

Brendan Visits Plastic Surgeon For Balding Head

The star took time out of his busy work schedule to pay a visit to the Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group Tuesday afternoon.

Joined by two professional doctors, the 25-year-old inferred he was getting his hair looked at during the appointment.

"The perks of going bald @Drpay @plastixdocs," Brendan said as he posed in the office with his thumbs up. Don't worry, no selfies were attempted during this visit.

The doctor's appointment may not come as a complete surprise to fellow cast member Morgan Stewart.

In her blog, Boobs&Loubs, Morgan revealed her boyfriend's plan to prevent hair loss.

"I'm off to the hair restoration DR with my boyfriend who seems to care that he's prematurely balding," she wrote in a post from January 2014. "Like I was over that week three. #JasonStatham."

Looks like someone is happy with Brendan, just the way he is!

Selena Gomez's Rehab Stint: 'She was Burnt Out'

0
0
selena-gomez

While rumors swirl that substance abuse was the force that drove Selena Gomez into rehab last month, insiders deny it.

“Project wellness,” says a source close to the 21-year-old singer when asked for the reason behind her two-week stay at Dawn at the Meadows, a treatment center in Arizona last month. “She was burnt out after a relentless year of back-to-back films, concerts, TV, touring and all the promotional work that goes along with it. She needed a break.”

According to insiders, Gomez enjoyed her share of partying in 2013, ending the year with a vow to “get healthy.” But that doesn’t mean she’s “hooked to booze, Ambien and pot,” as reports allege, or suffering from body issues, which is the reason given for Ke$ha’s current rehab stint.

“She’s not that girl,” says a source. “Does she party and have the occasional joint? Yes. Does she drink when she goes out? Yes. But she’s not struggling with drug addiction or alcoholism. I’ve never seen her out of control. There’s no needle dangling out of her arm.”

Gomez surprised fans in December when she cancelled her Australian tour, citing a need to “spend some time on myself,” according to a statement. Her camp confirmed that Gomez voluntarily entered Dawn at the Meadows on January 5 “for its youth programs,” not because of substance abuse, says the source. But others aren’t so sure.

A photo recently surfaced of the “Spring Breakers” star with Demi Lovato, sparking rumors of an intervention and that Lovato was worried about her friend’s emotional state, on-and-off relationship with Justin Bieber and hard partying ways. Lovato, who previously told Billboard that Gomez was one of her biggest supporters while she in treatment three years ago, isn’t exactly staying mum.

“Weakness is living in denial. Only the strongest people ask for help,” she tweeted on Wednesday.

When reached for comment, a rep for Lovato had no comment.

There’s also the allegation that Gomez hastily left the treatment facility and was spotted next at the Sundance Film Festival and partying with her troubled ex.

“She had prior commitments at Sundance,” says a rep for Gomez, adding that the singer felt that she didn't need to return to rehab upon leaving the film festival last month.

But given her rebound with Bieber just days ahead of his arrest, do insiders consider “project wellness” a success? “She’s only 21,” says a source. “She struggles with the same types of emotional issues anyone her age does. She’s allowed to make bad decisions. She’s concerned about him, but she’s not caught in a similar downward spiral.”
