'Trial and Error' canceled after two seasons at NBC :(

$

- After NBC did not exercise its option to renew the show for a third season, the studio, Warner Bros. TV, had been trying to find it a new network home, but that search has come up short.

- No word on whether or not WBTV tried to take the show to a streaming service (where it would have been better served, imo).

Not surprised, but still definitely sad.

ALL MEN!!! - ‘The Incredibles 2’ Director Brad Bird Defends John Lasseter

$
0
0

I'm sure you all remember the disgraced former Disney and Pixar head John Lasseter who recently in the WTF move was hired by Skydance Animation, a move that was met with criticism and outrage. Well, his best buddy Bird Box (director of such films as The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) spoke to The Daily Beast about his career, upcoming projects, pos Lasseter and how he really feels about the #MeToo movement.

The entire thing basically boils down to him defending Lasseter, because of their work history and how he wouldn't have made some of the movies he's made if it hadn't been for John. He wants people to forget about their own abuse and move on, because that's not what's important. HE JUST WANTS TO MAKE MOVIES AND FOR PEOPLE TO FOCUS ON THAT!!!

Final Oscar Nomination Predictions from Variety

  • Oscar nominations are less than a day away, so all the pundits are giving their latest and greatest guesses as to who will hear their name called (way too early) tomorrow morning.

  • Variety has chimed in with their guesses for all 24 categories, which you can see at the source. They expect ten nominations for A Star is Born and Roma, eight for The Favourite, and seven a piece for Vice and First Man.

  • They foresee eight Best Picture nominees: BlacKkKlansman, Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, A Star is Born and Vice.

  • Their choices are largely devoid of surprises, but they do predict that Yalitza Aparicio will be nominated in the Best Actress category for Roma, and that Peter Farrelly will not get a Best Director nomination for Green Book.

What say you, ONTD? Do you agree that these will be the nominees, or do you see any surprises coming?

After a turbulent 5 years, iigoruTinashe has reportedly parted ways with RCA Records and Sony Music. If you visit her artist page on the label’s official website, a “404 page not found” error loads. Tinashe and RCA have yet to officially confirm the split, however.

In 2017, she hired a legal team at LaPolt Law in West Hollywood, California to force her label to release her second album, Joyride. And last Summer producer Hitmaka revealed that the Sony label had blocked new music and the release of Nashe, her third studio album.

Nashe will be playing Mimi in the Live Musical production of RENT airing on Fox on Sunday, January 27th at 8/7c (remember, Nashe thrives after 6PM).

Louis C.K. "Jokes" About His Own Victims

Louis C.K. is still continuing his apology asshole tour. He was recently in the news for making fun of Parkland teenagers who survived a school shooting. Now, he's joking about his own victims.

“I like to jerk off, and I don’t like being alone.”

Just for good measure, he went back to joking about shooting victims.

“If you ever need people to forget that you jerked off, what you do is you make a joke about kids that got shot."

He also says that comedy is about saying "things you shouldn't."

“The whole point of comedy is to say things that you shouldn’t say. That’s the entire point.”

Weird, I thought it was about, you know, being funny?

-It was recently announced that a new Ghostbusters film is in production and will take place in the OG movie verse centering around a new set of characters. The 2016 All-Female Ghostbusters team has been excluded from this history and Leslie is not here for it.

-The 2016 film seemed to serve as a reboot with cameos from original GB in new roles.

-The new film will center around a much younger team made up of 2 guys/2 girls.

James McAvoy about 'Glass' and The Future Of X-Men &'It: Chapter 2'

$

0

• The initial hint that Split was a sequel was a lot more subtle in the script and James did not get it.

• There was a dance sequence in Glass, in which he sang a bit of Drake, but it had to be cut because Drake asked for too much money.

• Apparently James doesn't really care about music: "I'm just not big on music at all. I know, it's like a failing. The only time I ever really feel like I rely on music is when I'm tidying in the house, and I generally play the same playlist by Jamiroquai. Which is pretty great for tidying." (wtf, dude??)

• They talk a lot about Star Trek. James also does a quick Ian McKellan/Gandalf impression.

• About X-Men: Dark Phoenix: "It's gone back to what I've always loved about the X-Men, which is that the bad guys aren't bad guys, the bad guys are your family. The bad guys are your best friend, the bad guys your brother, the bad guys are someone who you completely understand and empathise with, so it makes their conflict a lot more interesting."

• He doesn't know if the X-Men can fold into the MCU: “One of the beautiful thing about the X-Men, one of the things that always strikes me [...] is, it has a parallel with disenfranchised. With people that have been ghettoised, with ethnic minorities, sexual minorities, with any kind of person that mainstream society is scared of. And there are large amounts of, they get pushed down, pushed off to the side of society and that's what the mutants represent. They're not the same necessarily as the handful of heroes that are regarded as demi gods. [...]"

FICTION: The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead

Release date: July 16

About: In this bravura follow-up to the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-winning #1 New York Times bestseller The Underground Railroad , Colson Whitehead brilliantly dramatizes another strand of American history through the story of two boys sentenced to a hellish reform school in Jim Crow-era Florida.

As the Civil Rights movement begins to reach the black enclave of Frenchtown in segregated Tallahassee, Elwood Curtis takes the words of Dr. Martin Luther King to heart: He is "as good as anyone." Abandoned by his parents, but kept on the straight and narrow by his grandmother, Elwood is about to enroll in the local black college. But for a black boy in the Jim Crow South in the early 1960s, one innocent mistake is enough to destroy the future. Elwood is sentenced to a juvenile reformatory called The Nickel Academy, whose mission statement says it provides "physical, intellectual and moral training" so the delinquent boys in their charge can become "honorable and honest men."

In reality, The Nickel Academy is a grotesque chamber of horrors, where the sadistic staff beats and sexually abuses the students, corrupt officials and locals steal food and supplies, and any boy who resists is likely to disappear "out back." Stunned to find himself in such a vicious environment, Elwood tries to hold on to Dr. King's ringing assertion "Throw us in jail and we will still love you." His friend Turner thinks Elwood is worse than naive, that the world is crooked and the only way to survive is to scheme and avoid trouble.

The tension between Elwood's ideals and Turner's skepticism leads to a decision whose repercussions will echo down the decades. Formed in the crucible of the evils Jim Crow wrought, the boys' fates will be determined by what they endured at The Nickel Academy.

Based on the real story of a reform school in Florida that operated for one hundred and eleven years and warped the lives of thousands of children, The Nickel Boys is a devastating, driven narrative that showcases a great American novelist writing at the height of his powers.

FANTASY & SCIENCE FICTION: The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

Release date: November 5

About: Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a strange book hidden in the library stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues — a bee, a key, and a sword — that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to a subterranean library, hidden far below the surface of the earth.

What Zachary finds in this curious place is more than just a buried home for books and their guardians — it is a place of lost cities and seas, lovers who pass notes under doors and across time, and of stories whispered by the dead. Zachary learns of those who have sacrificed much to protect this realm, relinquishing their sight and their tongues to preserve this archive, and also those who are intent on its destruction. Together with Mirabel, a fierce, pink-haired protector of the place, and Dorian, a handsome barefoot man with shifting alliances, Zachary travels the twisting tunnels, darkened stairwells, crowded ballrooms, and sweetly soaked shores of this magical world, discovering his purpose — in both the mysterious book and in his own life.

YOUNG ADULT: On the Come Up by Angie Thomas

Release date: February 5

As the daughter of an underground rap legend who died before he hit big, Bri’s got big shoes to fill. But now that her mom has unexpectedly lost her job, food banks and shutoff notices are as much a part of Bri’s life as beats and rhymes. With bills piling up and homelessness staring her family down, Bri no longer just wants to make it—she has to make it.

On the Come Up is Angie Thomas’s homage to hip-hop, the art that sparked her passion for storytelling and continues to inspire her to this day. It is the story of fighting for your dreams, even as the odds are stacked against you; of the struggle to become who you are and not who everyone expects you to be; and of the desperate realities of poor and working-class black families.

Jerry Media faces backlash for their complicity in Fyre and asking their followers to donate money

OP refuses to embed their Instagram account and direct any traffic to them.

By now, you’ve probably watched or at least heard of the two documentaries about the infamous Fyre Festival debacle that never occurred in 2017. There’s Hulu’sFyre Fraud and Netflix’sFyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened. The latter was produced by Jerry Media, also known as the popular Instagram account, FuckJerry. Created by Elliot Tebele and with over 14 million followers, Jerry Media helped to promote and scam others out of money along with the mastermind behind it all, Billy McFarland. Last year, McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison.

It’s been nothing but laughs and memes all over social media, including here on ONTD. “He scammed a bunch of rich kids! lmao.” A lot of us are guilty for making or agreeing with these comments. But now that these documentaries are out, the laughs have certainly stopped or at least aren’t as funny. The reality is, besides these annoying influencers and rich millennials who we think “got what they deserved,” there’s a whole community in the Bahamas we never fully considered and after these documentaries we see the lasting impact it had on them.

Hundreds of local people who worked under the beach sun day and night, and never got paid for their hard work. But one stood out in the Netflix version, Maryann Rolle, who lost her entire $50,000 life savings to pay her catering staff and community the money that was owed to them by Fyre and everyone else involved, including Jerry Media. After nearly two years, now they want to donate $10,000 to her, but FuckJerry wants their followers to make up the $40,000 difference and donate the rest on her GoFundMe page. 10K is chump change, and the sheer audacity for FuckJerry to ask their followers to pay for their own mistakes is truly something. Needless to say, their followers are seeing right through the bullshit and are rightfully calling their complicit asses out, and you can read some of them behind the cut. Including Ja Rule’s thoughts on all of this, a comrade no more.

Elliot Tebele and FuckJerry are feeling the heat as the comments and unfollows continue. They responded and donated an additional $20,000.

ONTD, did you watch either of these documentaries?
