How to Date Men When You Hate Men

From New Yorker and Onion writer and comedian Blythe Roberson, How to Date Men When You Hate Men is a comedy philosophy book aimed at interrogating what it means to date men within the trappings of modern society. Blythe Roberson’s sharp observational humor is met by her open-hearted willingness to revel in the ugliest warts and shimmering highs of choosing to live our lives amongst other humans. She collects her crushes like ill cared-for pets, skewers her own suspect decisions, and assures readers that any date you can mess up, she can top tenfold. And really, was that date even a date in the first place?

We Are Displaced: My Journey and Stories from Refugee Girls Around the World

Nobel Peace Prize winner and New York Times-bestselling author Malala Yousafzai introduces some of the people behind the statistics and news stories we read or hear every day about the millions of people displaced worldwide.

Malala's experiences visiting refugee camps caused her to reconsider her own displacement - first as an Internally Displaced Person when she was a young child in Pakistan, and then as an international activist who could travel anywhere in the world except to the home she loved. In We Are Displaced, which is part memoir, part communal storytelling, Malala not only explores her own story, but she also shares the personal stories of some of the incredible girls she has met on her journeys - girls who have lost their community, relatives, and often the only world they've ever known.

The Light Over London

It’s always been easier for Cara Hargraves to bury herself in the past than confront the present, which is why working with a gruff but brilliant antiques dealer is perfect. While clearing out an estate, she pries open an old tin that holds the relics of a lost relationship: among the treasures, a World War II-era diary and a photograph of a young woman in uniform. Eager to find the author of the hauntingly beautiful, unfinished diary, Cara digs into this soldier’s life, but soon realizes she may not have been ready for the stark reality of wartime London she finds within the pages.

In 1941, nineteen-year-old Louise Keene’s life had been decided for her—she’ll wait at home in her Cornish village until her wealthy suitor returns from war to ask for her hand. But when Louise unexpectedly meets Flight Lieutenant Paul Bolton, a dashing RAF pilot stationed at a local base, everything changes. And changes again when Paul’s unit is deployed without warning.

The Winter of the Witch

Following their adventures in The Bear and the Nightingale and The Girl in the Tower, Vasya and Morozko return in this stunning conclusion to the bestselling Winternight Trilogy, battling enemies mortal and magical to save both Russias, the seen and the unseen.

The Water Cure

King has tenderly staked out a territory for his wife and three daughters, Grace, Lia, and Sky. He has lain the barbed wire; he has anchored the buoys in the water; he has marked out a clear message: Do not enter. Or viewed from another angle: Not safe to leave. Here women are protected from the chaos and violence of men on the mainland. The cult-like rituals and therapies they endure fortify them from the spreading toxicity of a degrading world.
But when their father, the only man they've ever seen, disappears, they retreat further inward until the day two men and a boy wash ashore. Over the span of one blistering hot week, a psychological cat-and-mouse game plays out. Sexual tensions and sibling rivalries flare as the sisters confront the amorphous threat the strangers represent.

An Anonymous Girl

When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave.

But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what she’s thinking…and what she’s hiding.

As Jess’s paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what in her life is real, and what is one of Dr. Shields’ manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.

The Truths We Hold: An American Journey

By reckoning with the big challenges we face together, drawing on the hard-won wisdom and insight from her own career and the work of those who have most inspired her, Kamala Harris offers in THE TRUTHS WE HOLD a master class in problem solving, in crisis management, and leadership in challenging times. Through the arc of her own life, on into the great work of our day, she communicates a vision of shared struggle, shared purpose, and shared values. In a book rich in many home truths, not least is that a relatively small number of people work very hard to convince a great many of us that we have less in common than we actually do, but it falls to us to look past them and get on with the good work of living our common truth. When we do, our shared effort will continue to sustain us and this great nation, now and in the years to come.

Bryan Cranston defends role as disabled millionaire

Bryan Cranston has defended playing a disabled character in his new film, saying it is an actor's job to play different people.
He plays a quadriplegic billionaire in comedy-drama The Upside.
Cranston said that while he was aware of "the need to expand opportunities", his latest casting was a "business decision".

"We live in the world of criticism, if we're willing to get up and try something, we have to also be willing to take criticism. As actors, we're asked to be other people, to play other people. If I, as a straight, older person, and I'm wealthy, I'm very fortunate, does that mean I can't play a person who is not wealthy, does that mean I can't play a homosexual? I don't know, where does the restriction apply, where is the line for that? I think it is worthy for debate to discuss those issues."

After winning Best Actres in a Comedy or Musical at the Golden Globes, Olivia Colman continued to answer questions backstage. One journalist recalled how Colman had previously said that she hated doing love scenes so the journalist wanted to know why The Favourite was different for her.

"Love scenes with women are much easier. Cause, well, in my head I wasn't being unfaithful to my husband. So it felt [chuckles]. Kissing a man just feels awful because then you feel like you're being very naughty. Kissing women is much more fun [giggles]...That sounds just as naughty!"

When visitors to Joshua Tree National Park weren't shitting on the sides of roads or creating new roads throughout the park, they were busy destroying the famous Joshua trees after which the park is named. As of today, Joshua Tree National Park will be "temporarily" closed in order to protect the park from further harm.

In other news, the shutdown continues to be an absolute mess.

- The panel asked if a woman of color could win in 2020 and Harris said that we need to give the American people more credit. She talked about being the first woman District Attorney in San Francisco and the first woman (and first minority) Attorney General in California

- On Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: "She is challenging the status quo, I think that's fantastic."

- On Rashida Tlaib: "My candid response is that she is not the first nor will she be the last elected person to curse in public."

The panel discussed whether women who are ambitious and seeking leadership positions are considered less likable. Meghan said she thinks Michele Bachmann was very likable; she doesn't think it's a sexism issue.

ONTD Original: Fans Accuse Youtuber Taylor R's Husband of Running Sketchy Site

$

Fans of youtuber Taylor Richard, an ex-model turned vlogger from Canada, discovered that her husband (Tom Lip, commonly referred to as 'Elbow-San' by her fans) owns a company called 'MensClub.' On the surface, this page appears to be a generic Maxim style website for men in Hong Kong. However, it was soon noticed that there was section for girls 'under-18', a feature called 'Schoolgirls that we fxxed', and a mysterious 'private zone.'

Translation of this page, according to one fan:

In the past, Taylor has worked with Mensclub (The archived copy of an interview she did with them, a post from MensClub fb page of an event she did with MC, and a screenshot of a vaguely suggestive photo of her from the same page) so she is fully aware of the business.

MensClub also recently featured an article discussing a 13 year old swimsuit model on their page. The photos are taken from her instagram, but I will let the translation of the text provided by one user speak for itself.

Some fans took to instagram to question her husband, and he became defensive before deleting many of his replies.

Taylor has yet to comment on the subject.

Margot Robbie to star as Barbie in live-action Mattel movie?

margot_robbie.jpg

Margot Robbie is allegedly attached to a live-action movie about Mattel's famous Barbie doll. She will apparently play Barbie, though there is no word on the plot.

The movie was supposed to star Amy Schumer and film in June of last year, but Schumer had to drop out, as did Anne Hathaway later. In Schumer's version, Barbie gets kicked out of her perfect world for not being perfect enough.

Mattel is hoping that the movie will spark toy sales again. Barbies have dropped in popularity, and Mattel's stock prices have hit a 10-year low. Last year they expected to make profits of $913 million, and instead had a loss of $418 million.

Would you watch this movie? Would you give your kids Barbies?
