'Escape Room' kicks off 2019's first weekend box office with $2.3M on Thursday

$

0

The first big film opening this year is the the thriller 'Escape Room' (at 51% RT and overall meh of a movie), which already earned $2.3 million on Thursday. It's expected to bring in around $10M, which is fine for a movie that reportedly cost $9M to make.

Regardless of that, 'Aquaman's still expected to top this weekend's box office, anticipated to make around $25M-$30M this Golden Globes weekend, and will add to its massive $846M international total already. 'Mary Poppins Returns' should come in second with $15M, rounded out by 'Bumblebee' and 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' in the top five.

Essentially, don't expect big new movies in the coming weeks and just go watch the Oscar-bait flicks as they continue to expand in more theaters worldwide.

Britney Spears has taken to her Instagram to anounce that her upcoming residency Domination, at the Park Theatre, is being put on an indefinite hold. Britney's father was hospitalized and nearly died, so Britney is putting the launch on indefinite hiatus in order to focus on her father's recovery.

Her instagram statement reads:
I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand. More information on ticket refunds is available on britneyspears.com. I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always.

Reviews are in for Netflix'"Tidying Up with Marie Kondo"

The New York Times (Super-Sorter Marie Kondo Now Has a Reality Show) : "... There are no real heroes or villains. Just an awareness of a consumer culture run amok, of lives well-lived in houses with mostly ample storage and the dawning, troublesome realization — particularly when you consider the nesting skills of a pair of engaging young gay couples, one male and one female — that a generation of Americans may have never learned how to properly take care of themselves...."

The New Yorker (Tidying Up with Marie Kondo,” Reviewed: The Organizational Consultant as Freelance Exorcist) : "There is perhaps a smidgen of Orientalism in the series’s framing of its Japanese star as a sprite who flutters efficiently across a nonspecific U.S.A., gracing its chaotic households with wisdom. ... "

ELLE ( Tidying Up With Marie Kondo: The Binge-Watch That Will Get You Off the Couch ) : "...By the time I had consumed six of the nine episodes, I had Kondoed my way through a chest of drawers, a random assortment of desk detritus, and...just a lot of stuff. I thought I'd get something out of watching other people eliminating their messes, but it turns out that the joy of tidying up is something that requires—and inspires—a little participation...."

Pajiba ( Review: Netflix Inspire New Years’ Cleaning with ‘Tidying Up with Marie Kondo’) : "... The show itself is less interesting than the conversations it sparks. Watching families work to declutter, one is reminded of how such labour is typically coded as female, and the discussions had in each episodes by and large imply that it is the wives and mothers doing most of the heavy lifting around the house. ..."

Sources : Troy Patterson for The New Yorker , Penelope Green for The New York Times  , Kayleigh Donaldson for Pajiba , Estelle Tang for ELLE

Have you watched it and if yes what did you think? Will it be part of your 2019 resolutions? I wonder what would have been the reviews if she was a white male.... Some of the reviews are kind of ridic, and some are really hilarious lol

Scott Disick’s Photo Of Daughter Penelope Labelled Racist

Scott Disick has come under fire for sharing what some are calling a racist photo of his daughter Penelope.
In the photo of Disick and his six-year-old daughter at an Asian restaurant, Penelope pulls a face, holding up her eyelids as she poses for the snap. Disick sits beside her holding a pair of chopsticks.

Some fans, however, found the photo offensive, and accused the little girl of mocking Asian culture, while calling out Disick for sharing the pic and not setting a better example.

However, not everybody saw the image as offensive, with some fans defending Penelope’s gesture as simply a kid making a silly face.

At the end of every year a royal fashion blog (http://ufonomore.com/) calculates the coast of royal wardrobes of the year

the 2018 one: http://ufonomore.com/blog/costs-2018

The tally used to include Queen Rania of Jordan but the Royal Hashemite Court pressured Ufonomore into taking her off.

The Palace also relased a statment on facebook:

The vast majority of Her Majesty’s clothes are either borrowed from fashion houses, offered as gifts, or bought at reduced preferential prices, while blogs rely solely on “market value” for clothes, creating a false impression of reality.

Author Who Allegedly Stalked Goodreads Commenter To Publish New Book

In 2014, author Kathleen Hale wrote an essay for The Guardian about her fixation on a blogger who gave her YA novel a bad review on Goodreads. Hale repeatedly checked the blogger's social media accounts, paid for an internet background check, called them at home, drove to their address, and left a book at their doorstep.

Some people praised the essay for its honest, raw depiction of an author's obsession. Others called it outright stalking.

Now, Kathleen Hale will publish a collection of essays called Kathleen Hale Is A Crazy Stalker. Yes, that is the actual title. It is part of a two-book deal.

Bethenny Frankel called out by pilot for her life-threatening allergy, calls for policy change

Bethenny Frankel has a severe fish allergy. After surviving a near-fatal allergic reaction on December 18, this week she was on board a flight that served bass — despite her calling ahead to inform them of her allergy. It seems that the staff insisted they must serve the meal, and the pilot announced to the cabin that if they could not due to her allergy, the plane would have to turn around. The cabin voted not to serve the meal and continue with the flight.

Bethenny tweeted about the incident and asked airlines to stop serving airborne allergens, as well as retweeting stories of people who have died as a result of them (such as fish being cooked in the same house).

In response to suggestions she fly private, Bethenny said she is "fortunate enough to do that sometimes," but that it's "a massive waste and not environmentally friendly."

Christie Tate, mommy blogger, refuses to stop blogging about daughter, even though she asked her to.

Christie Tate (Outlaw Mama) is a mommy blogger who describes herself as "if David Sedaris was a straight, married, mother-of-two with a near-lethal obsession with Costco and a deeply ambivalent relationship to his law degree." She just wrote a parenting article for the Washington Post entitled "My daughter asked me to stop writing about motherhood. Here’s why I can’t do that."

As Tate tells it, her daughter (who's in the fourth grade) got a laptop for Christmas this year. On Boxing Day, her daughter found her blog, which include stories about the family (some specifically about her) and photos. The daughter asked her to take them down; Tate said no, and that "promising not to write about her anymore would mean shutting down a vital part of myself, which isn’t necessarily good for me or her." Also, Tate claims that "amputating parts of my experience feels as abusive to our relationship as writing about her without any consideration for her feelings and privacy."

Her daughter has asked that Tate at least stop using her real name, and use her chosen pseudonym. Tate says she is "taking that under advisement," but that going forward, her daughter can veto any picture Tate wants to use of her.

Riverdale's Lili Reinhart Uploads Random Strangers Canoodling and Responds to Twitter Trolls

While on winter vacation from filming Riverdle, Lili Reinhart posted a picture of a couple about to get "frisky" on her IG stories. According to her caption, they were strangers to her. It struck some as hypocritical given how vocal she's been in the past about her own privacy.

Lili has spoken in the past about twitter trolls being akin to "evil 15 year olds" and in what might have been in response to people @ing her for the above behavior, she posted a set of Instagram stories to show how unbothered she is and how she's enjoying her vacation. Note that these stories also could have been apropos of nothing. OP's senses were getting numb trying to wade through this.

Dv82lqcXcAMVoCRDv82lqXXQAcy3Fz

Which might have somehow a cue for witless trolls to declare her "worse than Hitler", and for others to bodyshame her because they somehow think it's open season on her.

In the end, she posted a poem in her Instagram stories that can also be found on her tumblr

Dv_44RtWkAE3UP8Dv_44SJXQAAHBW4

And she broke her self imposed twitter break by posting this response.
