"The Simpsons" Celebrates Its 30-Year Anniversary

Beloved TV show "The Simpsons" is 30. The series began as animated shorts on "The Tracy Ullman Show," and Fox gave it its own thirty-minute slot because of its popularity. The show's debut Christmas episode-- "Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire-- premiered three decades ago. FXX aired a marathon in its honor.

It paved the road for adult-oriented animated comedies. It has had many plagiarizers imitators like "Family Guy." Ratings have dropped, but it is still on the air.

6. Mama Tammye's message for the Fab 5
'Queer Eye' - 2x01 - God Bless Gay

(scene starts at 11:10)

Mama Tammye is when you think how an angel should be. The woman is filled with love for people, she didn't want her house restored but a community shelter she volunteered for and her final thank you message for the Fab5 is amazing. More people like her in this world pls.

5. Paige's train scene.
'The Americans' - 6x10 - START

After being made by the F.B.I. the main couple had to flee the country, and then just as they think they’ve safely avoided the authorities on a surprise passport check and will easily make it to Canada, Elizabeth looks out her window and sees her daughter standing there. Paige has chosen to stay behind and they'll probably never see her again.

4. Dre and Bow's separation.
'Black-ish' - 4x22 - Collateral Damage

Blackish has always had a ton of heart, but it literally broke ours when they realized that their 20-year marriage just wasn’t working anymore. They keep things civil until they have one of their ugly, painful arguments in the middle of Junior’s graduation party. It’s so upsetting that even Diane breaks down into actual tears of confusion before running off.

3. Penelope refuses to say good-bye to her mom.
'One Day at a Time' - 2x13 - Not Yet

The season-two finale of One Day at a Time has each character come in and deliver sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking monologues to Lydia, the show's grandma who was in an induced comma. Penelope refuses to say goodbye and crawls into the hospital bed to lay next to her mother and begins singing “Cielito Lindo”. By then you're a fucking mess.

2. Jack dies AFTER the fire.
'This is Us' - 2x14 - Super Bowl Sunday

We knew it was going to happen. We didn't know how. Mandy Moore fucking DELIVERED, and watching her go from total denial to seeing Jack's cold body with tubes and stuff. It was just heartbreaking.

1. Meicoomon dies.
'Digimon Adventure Tri' - 1x23 - Our future, Part 5

Now hear me out... you may be going 'This is anime, it'll never be as emotional as a real show' but Digimon pulled a 'Marley & Me'. The entire Digimon revival follows the old kids and a new digidestined with her digimon partner Meicoomon, who's infected by a virus and becomes evil, in the end, they have to kill the evil Meicoomon to save the planet, but inside there was still the good old little Meicoomon. Her digidestined had to keep her tears when Meicoomon said goodbye and by then YOU ARE A FUCKING CRYING MESS.

ONTD, what moment made you cry this year?

ONTD Original: Monthly Movie Challenge - January

I’m starting this whole thing out with 10 tasks – if people are actually interested, I can add more. For each task you can pick whatever movie fits within the guidelines, I've added suggestions. I tried to add tasks that would allow you to get movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and/or Hulu – but there’s also Kanopy and Hoopla (both of which you can get free access through your library or university). Some movies you choose can be rewatches for you but try to have at least half be movies you’ve never watched before. Have a different movie for each task – that is, don’t have the same movie for task 2 and task 10.

Tasks:
1. Watch a documentary - any subject
2. Watch a musical (Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Mary Poppins, La La Land, An American in Paris, etc.) OR, if you're a Debbie Downer who doesn't like fun, watch a movie about a musician (can be a documentary or fictional - so something like Amy or Vox Lux)
3. Watch a movie that was written and directed by a woman (Raw, Set It Up, Miseducation of Cameron Post, Lady Bird, Saving Face, etc.)
4. Watch a movie filmed partially or completely where you live (I live in Orlando so I can choose a movie filmed in Orlando or in Florida - so The Florida Project or Spring Breaker, etc.)
5. Watch a movie featured on AFI's 100 Greatest Movies of all time
6. Watch a movie with a score of 90 or higher on Metacritic (you can go here and then filter by streaming site – under the “all movies” tab you can pick Netflix, Prime, or Hulu).
7. Watch a movie that was released in 2018.
8. Watch a movie that was originally released during your birth month (mine is October, so I could watch any movie that was originally released in October, no matter what year – so I can watch Whip It which came out in October 2009) – use this to come up with some ideas
9. Watch a movie with a location in the title (Gangs of New York, Nashville, Paris is Burning, Orlando, American Graffiti, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, etc.)
10. Watch a movie in a different language from the one you mainly speak (I mainly speak English, so I could watch a movie in Spanish, French, German, Korean, etc.)

Bonus Task:
- January 15th is National Hat Day, watch a movie where someone is wearing a hat in the poster (Mudbound, Paddington 1 & 2, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Rushmore, The Rider, etc.)

If anyone actually cares about this I'll try to continue and have a new list of tasks for each month.

ONTD, what do you plan on watching this month?

ONTD ORIGINAL: 5 People From Black Mirror (+ Their Careers Afterward)

0
0
Full disclaimer; I have never seen an episode of Black Mirror outside of USS Callister. But I have seen way, way too many movies by people who were in Black Mirror. So let's look at some careers, starting with surprise star Daniel Kaluuya;

src: IMDB

Black Mirror episode;“Fifteen Million Merits”
Notable Filmography; Skins, Sicario, Kick-Ass 2, Get Out, Black Panther

Despite playin A Guy With a Gun and A Name Who Knew Emily Blunt in Sicario, Daniel really became an (American) household name in 2017’s “Get Out”, where he played the ill at ease photographer Chris Washington and was nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars for the role. Go, Daniel!

Now I have not seen Widows, but it surprised me that I had to hit ‘see full cast” for him to appear on the IMDB page as villain Jatemme Manning. He's picking careful projects, and I'm excited to see what comes next.

COMING SOON: The future looks bright.

  • Queen and Slim

  • an animated movie called A Christmas Carol

  • Black Panther 2: W’Kabi is in Jail For Treason Against The Throne. (is my guess).

But he was not the only Black Mirror alumni to be in the biggest movie of 2018; So was Letitia Wright.

Black Mirror episode:“Black Museum”
Notable Filmography: Black Panther, Avengers Infinity War

Despite a relatively small filmography, Letitia has won hearts and minds as Princess Shuri, the science-tech genius of Wakanda who has grown weary of the superpowered white men who keep falling within her country's borders. She was recently cast as the female lead in the sci-fi romance adaptation of “Hold Back The Stars” with costar/Other British-although-not-appearing-on-this-list Legend John Boyega.

She is on the up and up, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.

COMING SOON: The future looks interesting.
Avengers Endgame (So, she survived the Snap!)
Guava Island, a film by Hiro Murai, produced and directed by Donglover Donald Glover.

But that's not the only Disney movie by a black director and loads of CG that came out in 2018, Gugu Mbatha-Raw was in another one just a few short weeks later;

Black Mirror episode: “San Junipero”, quite possibly the most popular (and positive) episode of them all.
Notable Filmography: Jupiter Ascending, The Cloverfield Paradox, Belle, A Wrinkle in Time, Beauty and The Beast (2017), Beyond the Lights.

Oh, Gugu.

Belle was pretty good, and I like Jupiter Ascending, I didn’t give Beauty and The Beast an honest shot bc I don’t care, but the less said about Cloverfied Paradox the better. She was not the worst part by far - arguably the best - but the whole movie stank to high heaven.

Her minute role in A Wrinkle In Time was a blessing in diguise that she did not have to traipse around weird nonsensical CGI land.

Here’s hoping Gugu can land the role she really deserves.

Coming Soon: The Future Looks Oscar-Baity
Summerland (Sadly, not based upon the Michael Chabon novel)
Motherless Brooklyn

But that was not the only movie to be released on March 9th, 2018 that failed to capture anyone's good will.  It's not a year in filmgoing if we don't have Toby Kebbell being in an absolutely off the wall bonkers movie, now is it?

That's the nice way of saying bad.

Black Mirror episode:“The Entire History of You” (The only episode to my knowledge that has film rights bought.)
Notable Filmography: Dawn/War of The Planet of the Apes, Rocknrolla, The East, Kong Skull Island, A Monster Calls, Gold, The Hurricane Heist, Destroyer (Allegedly), Fantastic 4 (2015), The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Warcraft.

When you’re talented but your filmography is very help_me_ja_rule.gif.

Often the best part of the worst movies, I tried to keep it to the good movies only. I’ve seen everything I listed above sans Gold (Just didn’t care) and Destroyer (#ThanksAnnapurna).

With nothing on the docket for 2019, let’s hope that Sony’s Bloodshot will not be one more nail in his coffin.

Coming Soon: The Future Looks Uncertain:
Extrasensory*
Becoming*
Bloodshot
An M. Night Apple TV show! Yaaay.

*(These were announced in at least 2016 but I’m not sure if they’ve even been made. I think Becoming has been because it has a poster on IMDB and actual information and a Letterboxd page but idk. I need it to happen tho bc he’s posessed by a demon in that one 👀🔥❤️ )

And finally, just when you thought you could not see him everywhere, here's Domhall Gleeson. Yes, he was here too!

src
I actually had to take this gif from an Imagine blog bc there are a surprising LACK of gifs about Hux out there.

Black Mirror Episode:“Be Right Back”
Notable Filmography: Peter Rabbit, Ex Machina, Star Wars The Force Awakens, the highest rated Star Wars movie known as The Last Jedi, Goodbye Christopher Robin, mother!, American Made, Calvary.

Once “The Man Who Was Everywhere”, you may have seen Gleeson in the above episode and a bunch of movies, some clearly shot with the intention to be Oscar bait that just never really took off. Did anyone see Goodbye Christopher Robin? Or American Made?

But many, many people saw Peter Rabbit. Which I really enjoyed. No word on if he will return for the sequel. If you haven't seen Calvary, you should.

Coming Soon: The Future Looks Not As Busy:
Star Wars Episode IV
The Kitchen

I didn't included people that I know ya'll know because I hardly know them. I can open the IMDB page and stare at it but I couldn't write about it. Would you *like* me to scrape together some words about Hayley Atwell when I barely know of her?

Of course not.

So ya'll can do it! And get hyped for Bandersnatch! Ya'll enjoy it, ya hear?

Holmes & Watson is so bad, people are walking out & demading their money back

0
0

The film is apparently so bad that it's prompting audiences to leave the theater in the middle of the movie, with some even requesting refunds for the cost of their tickets.

Directed by Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen, Holmes & Watson opened on Christmas Day, but wasn't screened to members of the media ahead of its wide launch. Once critics and fans actually feasted their eyes upon what they thought would be another hilarious Ferrell-Reilly two-hander, things went sour fast.

Currently, Holmes & Watson sits has a six percent critical approval rating and 25 percent fan score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is actually an improvement from its commencing posting of zero percent — a mark that doesn't come around very often on the review aggregator.

ONTD, did you ever walk out of a movie & ask for your money back?

Iggy Azalea posts concerning message on Instagram

Iggy Azalea is alarming fans after posting an emotional Instagram Story that detailed how exhausted she felt from the world. (The rapper received backlash this week after continuing her performance despite a back-up dancer having a seizure behind her.)

"It feels like ANY thing I do becomes an opportunity for people to tell me why I’m shit, why my music sucks, my clothes are ugly, why I don’t matter or why I’m a horrible person. I’m worn down."

"The last 4 years are just me existing in a world where I can do nothing right and it’s hard not to feel like 'what’s the point' and keep motivated."

Executives Didn’t Want to Finance ‘On the Basis of Sex’ Because Husband Character Was Too Supportive

0

The role of Martin (Ruth Bader Ginsberg's husband) is a relatively thankless one.
It’s usually the wife character who plays second fiddle to the leading man.
“On the Basis of Sex” changes this traditional movie dynamic.
Screenwriter said financiers and development executives did not want to back the movie at first because of the parity.
They wanted Martin rewritten as angrier, or less understanding; threatening to divorce his wife, if she didn’t drop the case.
