Lana Del Rey teases new song 'Mariners Apartment Complex'

ONTD ORIGINAL: heartbreak songs that pierce our soul (aka despecho songs) en español

$
0
0
We all have suffered heartbreak, so we know how it feels like and all the stages to get through it, artists use that pain and sorrow to make art about it, and hispano-american singers are not different, we are very dramatic and a bit extra and passionate about things, so of course our heartbreak songs (despecho or desamor like we call it) are going to be like that, and that makes you to either cry your heart out every time you hear them (especially after a bad breakup) or being angry/getting the confidence to once and for all end that shitty relationship that was taking a toll on you.

So here we have a list of despecho songs, some are for that period of time when you just want to cry and express all your pain and some are for that period of time where you are like “fuck them” with your ex and realize you are better without them, all of the songs are damn good , so, enjoy!!!

La Copa Rota- José Feliciano

La Copa Rota has a salsa versión (made by Alci Acosta) and a rock? One made by Andres Calamaro, but in my opinion the best one that truly captures the sadness and angst of the lyrics is this one, José Feliciano has a beautiful voice and yes it’s kinda sad when you butcher this song in the karaoke but who cares? You are just expressing your pain.

The part that punches you in the heart:

“Mozo, sírvame la copa rota
Sírvame que me destroza esta fiebre de obsesión
Mozo, sírvame la copa rota
Quiero sangrar gota a gota el veneno de su amor”

Fue un placer conocerte – Rocío Durcal and Juanga (Dios lo tenga en su gloria)

Rocío Durcal and Juanga made an amazing duo, the most iconic songs sang by Rocío were written by JuanGa, both have amazing voices, both are hispano-american icons, yeah Rocío was born in Spain but a lot of people don’t know that/ignore it because she got famous in México, and both of them are known for their songs about love and heartbreak, when will your faves?

The part that pierces your heart:

“Si me hubieras querido
cuando yo te pedía
que me amaras un poco,
que me hicieras feliz,
yo me hubiera quedado
para siempre contigo;
pero no fue posible,
y hoy me tengo que ir ”

Déjame llorar – Ricardo Montaner

Ricardo Montaner has a lot of iconic songs and him and his sons write for other artists (his sons wrote vente pa’ca) so the guy is a legend in hispanoamerica and knows how to write, you can feel the pain in the lyrics and the sadness.

The part that reminds you how good it was and how everything fell apart:

"Cuántas nostalgias durmiendo en el desván
He declarado mi vida en soledad
Hago canciones de amor que nunca olvido
Pues sobre nubes de otoño las escribo solo
Millones de hojas cayendo en tu cuerpo
Otoños de llanto goteando en tu piel"

Un Buen Perdedor - Franco de Vita

This power ballad and (like Mexicans say) rolononon made by italo-venezuelan singer Franco de Vita is a great song and every person you know has heard it and probably has sung it con sentimiento, it’s a must for despechados whose ex broke up with them because another person.

The part that makes you cry like a baby:

“Sin embargo esperaba
Que te quedaras pero
El agua hay que dejarla correr
Mientras yo me tragaba palabras
Que no pude decir
Claro que se perder
No será la primera vez
Hoy te vas tu, mañana me iré yo
Seré un buen perdedor
El mundo no cambiará
Alguien sin duda ocupe tu lugar”

No te hago falta – Ana Gabriel

Mexican-chinese and (allegedly) lesbian queen Ana Gabriel is one of the most important artists in hispano-américa and like most of our iconic artists she sings about despecho and desamor, this song is powerful for the lyrics and her voice, it’s also a hit in karaokes.

The part that makes you cry:

“Yo no te hago falta, eso ya lo se
Ni ahora ni mañana siempre ha sido así
Busco una salida, yo no se que hacer
Estoy desesperada, voy a enloquecer
Yo no te hago falta ni antes ni después,
Tu no sientes nada, es triste saber”

Rata de dos patas – Paquita la del Barrio

This is Paquita’s most famous song, nada que hacer, every person and their mothers have heard this song, your primo metalero even knows it and probably has sang it, with passion, you can’t help it to sing it everytime you hear it because it’s that good and expresses all the hate you have against that bastard who broke your heart

The part that speaks to your soul:

“Maldita sanguijuela
Maldita cucaracha
Que infectas donde picas
Que hieres y que matas
Alimaña
Culebra ponzoñosa
Deshecho de la vida
Te odio y te desprecio”

El último Adiós - Paulina Rubio

This song isn’t sad at all so it’s for that time when you realize you were too good for that bastard so fuck him, even if thee begs you are not going to return, I don’t like la chica dorada that much but this song was a hit at the time and it’s so good for karaokes.

The part you sing with passion:

“Aunque vengas de rodillas
Y me implores y me pidas
Aunque vengas y me llores
Que te absuelva y te perdone
Aunque a mi me causes pena
He tirado tus cadenas
Y te dedico esta ranchera
Por ser el último adiós”

Amigo en el baño de Kany García

This ICONIC song was a hit because it talked about something we are not very open in latin-america: vibrators and female masturbation, yeah sometimes a vibrator is better than a man because it gives you pleasure and isn’t an asshole and at least makes you orgasm.

The best part:

“Que fui a una tienda
que lo que he comprado
me sirve mejor que el estar a tu lado
que dos baterías me han funcionado
mejor que tus besos y que tus abrazos
ya no diré yo más nunca te extraño
pues no me hacen falta ya más tus engaños
para dar migajas y hacerme más daño
mejor soy feliz
con mi amigo en el baño “

Pa'ti no estoy – Rosana

All my straight female Friends have sang this song after they break up, it’s like THE “empowering break up song” for them, it’s for when you are over your ex and you want to let go all the resentment you have against them but still show him he ain’t shit, a hit when you are reunited with your female friends and want to talk shit about men.

The part my friends sing con ganas:

“Yo Me voy a plantar al campo
O a la orilla, la marea
Deseo que todo te vaya de vicio
Me voy, ahí te quedas
Me voy a vivir tranquila
Sin pausa pero sin prisa
Deseo que todo te vaya de lujo
No espero visita
Así que no vayas
Que pa' ti no estoy
Yo pa' ti no estoy”

Honorable mentions:

Jesse & Joy- ¡Corre! (I don’t like this song but it was such a hit and everybody and their mothers here love it so it deserves a mention)
Me voy - Julieta Venegas
Mala gente de Juanes
Llueve por dentro – Luis Fonsi
Estoy Pensando - El Grupo Niche

-Australian Director Jennifer Kent is the only woman presenting a movie this year at Venice Film Festival
-Her movie's title is “The Nightingale” and it's about a woman who seeks revenge after her family is killed and she is raped
-After the projection of her movie, her name came up on the screen and journalist and filmaker Sharif Meghdoud screamed "Shame on you, whore. You suck"
-He posted an (awful) apology on Facebook (a few quotes: ""It came out of my mouth without thinking of what I was saying and its consequences", "I never thought the things I said", "my insult is something that was more suitable for a chat in a bar between friends and not a film festival", "it was not a masculist or misogynist attack", "please share this post so that my apology will be spread as much as possible")
-He basically said that he's sorry for making the festival and Italian journalist look bad, while saying that he did not mean what he said. In the whole thing he mentions Jennifer only once and mix her apology with the one for everyone else ("sorry to everyone that was offended, to the director Jennifer Kent to whom I wish a wonderful career, to the Venice Film Festival and its directors for making it look bad")
-He edited the post because at first he said that it was a golardic thing, he deleted it because he saw that people were offending him, he added that he did not know what to do more than apologize and repent and understand the gravity of his error. Then he deleted the whole thing.
-Venice Film Festival addressed what happened on twitter without giving details and confirmed that it had withdrawn the press accreditation of Meghdoud
-Kent addressed the incident during the film’s press conference Thursday, saying that “it’s of absolute importance to react with compassion and love for ignorance. There is no other option

Pop superstar Shawn Mendes suffered a wardrobe malfunction at the NFL kick off concert yesterday in Philadelphia.
Mendes took over 10 seconds to take off his button-up shirt, which is surely going to be incorporated into future slash-fictions based on the "Mercy" singer.
Eventually he got it off all by himself, and continued the short set.

Following the tragic death of Mac Miller, Ariana Grande unfortunately had to resort to disabling her Instagram comments after receiving several unwarranted comments blaming her for his death. Grande and Miller broke up earlier this year in May after dating for 2 years. His sobriety and struggle with addiction is said to be the reason for their break up.

Grande has yet to publicly comment but one thing is for certain, she is not to blame for this unfortunate tragedy.

Youtube user and Game of Thrones BNF Frikidoctor is back with his Game of Thrones spoilers. Frikidoctor gave accurate spoilers for both seasons 6 and 7 in the past years.

The major spoilers are:

Tyrion betrays Dany and the Starks and is executed. There is a long scene in which Jon, Dany, Sansa, and Arya find out about his betrayal. The scenes filmed at the Italica (Dragonpit) location in Seville was for Tyrion's trial. It is not known how Tyrion dies or what his motivations are for betraying the Starks/Dany. Apparently Tyrion's death is the most shocking and heartbreaking scene of season 8.

Natalia Kills' Album "Trouble" Turns 5 This Week!

𝙷𝙰𝙿𝙿𝚈 𝟻𝚃𝙷 𝙱𝙸𝚁𝚃𝙷𝙳𝙰𝚈

We sought JUSTICE for Teddy a while back, but one of the most underrated pop albums turned 5 this week on Sept. 3rd. From her electro/synthpop debut Perfectionist (2011) to the sophomore Trouble (2013), Natalia Kills aka Teddy Sinclair transitions into more hard hitting hip-hop beats and loud guitars.

She delves into topics regarding her upbringing that molded her into the troublemaker she is, where instead of a 'rags to riches' story, it's 'penthouse to pavement'. As her story goes, the repo man came "one day, the police came and the next moment my father was in jail and absolutely everything we had was gone. My parents lost everything and to be honest to this day they still haven’t recovered. When I got older, I didn’t talk to either of them much because by then, I had given them all my money, I couldn’t help them anymore."

This lead her to rocky teen years of failed gigs, bad record deals (hi Verbalicious!), and couch surfing at friend's places. Trouble is a classique among the niche pop community that recognizes Teddy's growth as an artist and songwriter since Perfectionist.
From confessions to fun bops in between, here's a brief look back into the album with some quotes I've pulled from the legend herself.

1. Television

"Television" as well as "Saturday Night" are good summaries of the album's content. Everything from the dramatic soap opera-like intro, the colorful lyrics, to the bloody scream at the end that transitions to the second track's police sirens makes this a strong opener.

"I feel with this album… I'm confronting and marking down every bad thing, and making that into something important," she continues, "because all that bad stuff, it stays with you, it defines you, it changes you.

Whether it’s through strength or apprehension, through fear and hesitation or defiance and overcoming, it never leaves you. And I wanted to confront who I am and who I’ve been and everything that made me why I am how I am head-on -- and most of it's bad, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good music, good intentions, good entertainment, even."

2. Problem

This chaotic anthem had an even more grittier demo which I personally preferred.
Something about this song seemed close to be a cult hit when it was used in a shoe commercial and cameo'd in We're the Millers and Pitch Perfect 2. If you liked this song, her previous track "Break You Hard" off of Perfectionist is probably the next closest song she has to this sonically.

3. Stop Me

Another killer cut with tribal drums and a megaphone effect on her voice in the chorus, Natalia recollects the time when she went to Paris with a friend and caused some shameless trouble at a low point in her life.

"I put my high heels on so I'm closer to god"whew.

4. Boys Don't Cry

She already had a couple of one-night stand songs ("Not in Love" and "Nothing Lasts Forever") and "Boys Don't Cry" is another one of them. The kick-kick-kick-snare is heavily 60's Ronettes inspired, and the song's cheekiness is in the vein of her previous song "Kill My Boyfriend".
Now in the band Cruel Youth, Teddy looks back fondly on this song and "Outta Time" where she expressed her love for 60's music.

5. Daddy's Girl

Natalia once said she'd write letters to her dad while he was in prison, and this song has the same sentiment of keeping the bond while counting down 'seven years' until he's released.

"There’s a lyric in the song where I’m saying, 'Let them take it all the way / The sweet Rozay, the Cartier/ Stop the warden, call your name / I’d give you all my freedom, babe.' It’s basically like, I’d trade all of these luxurious things we’ve ever had just to have you come back to me. So that’s what the champagne and Rolex symbolizes on the cover."

6. Saturday Night

“Saturday Night is the soundtrack to my life. It’s strange because music and movies always portray being young as these invincible years of freedom, opportunity and love, but when I was a teenager I didn’t have any of that…I wanted to make a song and a video that showed how messed up youth can be— having no control, money or guidance.

Every time it felt like the world had ended and time had stopped, it seemed to just keep going no matter what. Time has no consideration for sadness…time doesn’t care about regrets or impatience…days and weeks go by and eventually you realise it’s all part of a cycle, it’s all just another Saturday night.”.

7. Devils Don't Fly

"Most of my songs start with a memory that will haunt me for a long time, until I’m brave or crazy enough to confront it and turn it into something permanent by acknowledging that it was real, because my songs are so personal, I almost always have to be alone when I write them.

Sometimes I’m in bed or at 5am on my kitchen floor, but I can’t go on until the song is finished. Then, I can look back at it all and see the past from a distance like looking at a beautiful sad painting that makes no sense, but you can’t help but look at it anyway.”

8. Outta Time

"For every boy who ever loved me and tried to save me."

9. Controversy

“A me-watching-you-watch-me-watch-you kind of thing.... “Controversy” is not even a song. It’s a list.
It was my observation of a twisted generation who doesn’t find anything twisted anymore. Growing up in the nineties, the TV’s your babysitter and the Internet is your school dance where you’ll meet all the boys or the fucking pedophiles or whatever. You know, instead of reading magazines and getting advice from your peers, it’s all full-exposure. I wanted to just list everything non-shocking that should be.”

10. Rabbit Hole

"My teenage years were spent trying to survive in London on my own and rebelling against the abnormality.

I tried to grow up too fast and create some stability, but I always got it wrong. I had left home, gotten in a horrible relationship, quit my job, run away to Paris, joined a cult, signed a bad record deal, been taken away in the back of police cars, tried to burn my house down and dreamed of ending it all. And I hadn’t even turned 18."

11. Watching You

12. Marlboro Lights

"My song ‘Marlboro Lights’, it is a song I wrote about being in love with someone who doesn’t love you back as much. Every time you have an argument, every time they walk out and they leave you there and you’re crying on the bedroom floor and you want to just die. You want to just jump off of the roof. You want to walk out in front of a bus. You’d do anything for a bullet. That kind of real emotional pain.

And just that one image of them maybe being with you again, the way they just touch your face or smoke their cigarette. That one thing that they do, the way they do it and no one else does it? If you could just have that moment once more, that’s why you don’t kill yourself and that’s why you don’t punish them and you don’t leave them and you let them come back every single time. You live for that moment."

13. Trouble

#JusticeForFeelMyself This song leaked online and didn't appear on the album. Originally the song had a sample of a freeze dance game from her childhood that added a nice little element to the song.

Natalia on the song: "I finished the album, but I kept making songs. So it leaked on to the internet. I have so many songs I recorded that haven’t leaked and will possibly be a part of my next album or maybe a repackaging, deluxe edition of Trouble. Once a week I make a couple of songs, I’m surprised the other ones didn’t leak as well. “Feel Myself” was a really fun song to make. It has this really playful and bitchy feeling to it.

"Finally I’m not looking for forgiveness, rather, I’m at a place where it means more to own up to all the wrong things I’ve done and to bring some kind of power to them. Sometimes there are no answers or antidotes.
I used to want to make all the bad stuff go away, but now I just want to look it dead in the eye and feel the full force of it. The point of writing Trouble is to turn the worst bits of my life into what will be the best ones.”

First reviews are in for 'Beautiful Boy' starring Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet

The drug-addiction drama 'Beautiful Boy' just had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, and honestly the reviews are sort of in-line with the early test screenings.

To say Timothée Chalamet is getting immense praise is a fucking understatement - many have said his performance tops last year's 'Call Me by Your Name' and is a shoe-in for Supporting Actor. Steve Carell is getting mostly great reviews (some saying it's even a career best), while the movie itself has critics divided. Some call it a gripping raw story about drug addiction while others point out the editing, pacing, and Lifetime-esque melodrama. More reviews below.

Barbara Palvin has confirmed in an Instagram post that she will be walking this year's Victoria's Secret fashion show. She walked the 2012 show, but didn't return. Rumor has it: she was deemed "too big" to return to the VS catwalk. She's been Sports Illustrated Magazine's darling over the past 3 years, where Barbara flaunts a fuller figure compared to what she looked like while with Victoria's Secret.
