RuPaul Serves You Some Goddess on the Half Shell Realness in First Teaser For Season 5 Of Drag Race

The Greatest Movie Speeches

0
0
Filmic moments of strength, weakness, and wisdom have inspired some of the most powerful speeches in cinema. With the arrival of Patton on Blu-ray tomorrow, we felt compelled to revisit a few memorable speeches in film history. George C. Scott starred in Franklin J. Schaffner’s 1970 war drama as General George S. Patton, and we first meet the actor during a stern opening address to the troops of the US 3rd Army, framed by a massive American flag. It’s a spare, bold moment that sets the tone for the film and introduces Patton as an uncompromising military leader ready to fight. It’s also a reminder that impressive, intense dialogue can outshine even the greatest of special effects. Click through for a look back at some quotable, emotional, and uplifting speeches that have graced the big screen. We’ve left plenty of room so you can share your favorites in the comments, below.

Full Metal Jacket

Young men from every demographic arrive on Parris Island in 1967 ready to be transformed forever. They’ve joined the Marines in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, where they will become molded into a cohesive killing machine and taught that order, uniformity, and discipline are essential to their survival. It’s a dehumanizing process, which we’re first introduced to by a brutal drill sergeant — played by real-life retired Marine, R. Lee Ermey. Gunnery Sergeant Hartman (Ermey) wastes no time putting the men in their place, issuing harsh guidelines, ruthless insults, and even physically assaulting the recruits. “Here you are all equally worthless,” he spews at the men. His introductory barrage sets the tone for the film’s larger-than-life performances, unsettling surreality, and Kubrick’s meditation about the effects of war.

Network

Network appeared on the scene after Watergate had ravaged the country and screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky lived through the on-air suicide of Florida TV reporter Christine Chubbuck. It’s a film filled with speeches pulsing with anxiety, distrust, and contempt for the media — an eerily prescient critique that in many ways foretold the Internet, reality television, and the downturn of Hollywood blockbuster spectacles. “Mad prophet of the airwaves” Howard Beale (Peter Finch in his last feature film) delivers an impassioned speech to TV viewers, excerpts of which have become a catchphrase in the pop culture landscape. His “mad as hell” monologue is as pertinent now as it was 36 years ago.

Malcolm X

African-American Muslim minister and activist Malcolm X was a fiery orator, and even at his most militant had a gift for inspiring people and imparting a powerful, honest message. Denzel Washington’s incredible performance as the former Nation of Islam leader — a role that won him an Academy nomination, but left him robbed of the award that was later given to him for… Training Day (argh) — captures the essence of Malcolm in appearance and word. His work isn’t just a well-crafted illusion, however, as this scene featuring an intense speech to a group of African-Americans in Harlem proves.

Braveheart

Before Mel Gibson went off the deep end, he delivered a memorable performance as 13th-century warrior William Wallace, who led the Scots in the First War of Scottish Independence against King Edward I. The historical epic finds Gibson’s fearless patriot addressing his men on horseback as they prepare to head into battle. He tells them that although they may fight and die, if they run, they face a more devastating consequence that could haunt them for a lifetime. The dramatic speech impresses a feeling of brotherhood amongst the men — even revealing a bit of humor as Wallace jokes about the myths surrounding his invincibility.

Wall Street

Oliver Stone’s Wall Street inspired an entire generation to pursue a career as Wall Street moneymakers, praising Michael Douglas’ Gordon Gekko — an amalgamation of several real-life figures — as an archetype of ambition and power. “Greed is good,” Gekko tells us — and we don’t have to understand the finer points of the stock exchange to feel the knots in our stomach when he advocates his version of the “evolutionary spirit.” The speech reinforces that the film is a portrait of 1980′s excess and a morally corrupt, capitalist system — on and off the trading floor.

Fight Club

After a reckless soap maker (Brad Pitt) and an insomniac office worker (Edward Norton) form an underground fight club, the rules and philosophy of the fringe group are established when Tyler Durden (Pitt) delivers a speech to the men before fisticuffs. The club’s philosophy was born from feelings of emasculation and a disgust for consumer culture. Durden believes the men’s fullest potential has been squandered. They’ve been lied to, Durden declares, and they’re “very, very pissed off.”

Blade Runner

“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.” We know Rutger Hauer’s villainous replicant is speaking to an audience of one, but the message he shares — brief, but evocative lines — is one to all of mankind about fate and mortality.

A Few Good Men

“I run my unit how I run my unit. You want to investigate me, roll the dice and take your chances. I eat breakfast 300 yards from 4,000 Cubans who are trained to kill me, so don’t think for one second that you can come down here, flash a badge, and make me nervous,” Jack Nicholson’s Colonel Jessup tells us in A Few Good Men. He’s a formidable, menacing military figure that isn’t about to let an inexperienced lawyer (Tom Cruise) break him — until the men enter the courtroom, and the truth about a Marine’s death is revealed. It’s impossible to tear your eyes away from Nicholson during his famous speech, and his twisted sense of duty is chillingly convincing.

Dead Poets Society

Universities the world over should just screen the speech from Peter Weir’s Dead Poets Society for their graduating classes. Robin Williams plays an unorthodox English professor who inspires his students through poetry, encouraging them to “seize the day.” His uplifting lesson in the hallway of Welton Academy, in which he summons the voices of the past, is a profound moment not only for the impressionable prep school boys, but for anyone with hopes and dreams of a bright future.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Aww, we miss Sam after revisiting his tear-worthy speech to friend Frodo in Two Towers about “the tales that mattered” and what’s worth fighting for. At this point in the film, the two hobbits have hit rock bottom, their mission seems impossible, and all hope feels lost. Sam insists they continue the fight, though, and believes that “there’s some good in this world.” The two child-like beings are unlikely heroes, which is what makes Sam’s words so inspiring. He proves that wisdom and bravery comes in all sizes and walks of life.

Harrison Ford open to idea of playing Ham Solo again.

0

Harrison Ford is open to the idea of bringing Han Solo back to life on the silver screen in 2015, according to sources close to the just-announced Star Wars sequel, but don’t be surprised if his contract includes a mandatory death scene for the sly old space smuggler.

“Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he’s upbeat about it, all three of them are,” said one highly placed source, referring to Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher, the trio that made a hyper-speed jump to global fame on May 25, 1977, the opening night for George Lucas’s original Star Wars film.

The Hollywood trajectories of Hamill and Fisher led to reinvention — he’s now an in-demand voice actor; she used a gift for acerbic memoir to deliver Postcards from the Edge and Wishful Drinking. But Ford, who reached his 35th birthday in the summer of 1977, launched himself on a truly historic career run that synced up with the blockbuster bonanza of the 1980s. Ford’s star rose with The Fugitive, Air Force One, Clear and Present Danger, Presumed InnocentBlade Runner, and of course, the four fedora films as a certain archaeologist named Henry “Indiana” Jones.

The actor, now 70, is plenty proud of Indy, Jack Ryan, John Book, and Dr. Richard Kimble but in the past he didn’t disguise his disdain for Solo. “As a character he was not so interesting to me,” the frosty Ford explained in an ABC interview in 2010.

The slippery Corellian pilot’s great talent is keeping himself alive, a skill that apparently extended beyond the screen. Solo’s death scene in early outlines for Episode VI: Return of the Jedi was scrapped, according to Ford and others, because the character was a top seller as an action figure.

As Ford told ABC in the same interview: “I thought he should have died in the last one to give it some bottom…George didn’t think there was any future in dead Han toys.”

Disney, which acquired Lucasfilm in a $4.05 billion deal, sees plenty of retail future with Star Wars sitting on the same corporate toy shelf as Marvel and Pixar, and they’ll certainly be offering a stellar payday to coax Ford to bring his star power back to role that started it all.

More than money, Ford might be drawn back by the upside of changes at Lucasfilm where the respected Kathleen Kennedy is taking over as company president, and with the Jedi franchise as a whole now that Kennedy is in as executive producer and Lucas will take on a consultant role, leaving the director’s chair for someone else.

Indeed, Ford won’t go to the next level of contract talks until there’s a script and director in place. Either  could be a deal breaker. Still, at any stage, an “upbeat” signal from Ford on any Solo matter is enough to shock and excite fans who view Star Wars as something close to religion.

Solo, Luke Skywalker (Hamill), and Princess Leia (Fisher) appeared in two more films and when last we left them (in 1983’s Episode VI: Return of the Jedi) they were on the forest moon of Endor reflecting on the downfall (literally) of the Emperor and Darth Vader’s final act of redemption.

Now a new-look Lucasfilm — with Lucas moving into retirement and the Walt Disney Company taking over — plans to circle back with a new trilogy that picks up the story decades later and presumably uses the original trio to hand off the franchise to a new generation. (It’s a familiar approach; 2009’s Star Trek beamed Leonard Nimoy back aboard or 2010’s Tron: Legacy turned to Jeff Bridges to initiate the next cycle.)

Hamill told EW that he and Fisher heard about the idea when Lucas summoned them for a lunch in August, not long after both were onstage return guest at Star Wars Celebration VI, an official Lucasfilm event that drew tens of thousands of fans to Orlando. Many of those true believers are delirious about the new hope of a third trilogy but Hamill, 61, knows that some outsiders will roll their eyes.

“I can see both sides of it,” Hamill said. “Because in a way, there was a beginning, a middle, and an end and we all lived happily ever after and that’s the way it should be — and it’s great that people have fond memories, if they do have fond memories. But on the other hand, there’s this ravenous desire on the part of the true believers to have more and more and more material.”

In the 29 years since the red carpet premiere of Return of the Jedi, Ford has declined hundreds  – if not thousands — of offers to appear at Star Wars events and cast reunions even the ones sanctioned and run by Lucasfilm. In fact, in all those years was only one offer he accepted: He attended a 30th anniversary screening of the The Empire Strikes Back in 2010 to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

About 400 fans (including Christopher Nolan, Jonathan Nolan, Jon Favreau, and Kevin Feige) paid $100-$175 each to hear Ford reflect on his Millennium Falcon days. I was the moderator for the event and the star arrived in a cheery mood but, after watching the film, he was weary of the crowd’s zeal for something he could never love.

“I don’t know that I understood it very well,” Ford said in a flat tone of the franchise’s ascension in popular culture. “I’m not sure I understand it yet…I was very happy to be involved. I was pleased to be a part of an ensemble.”

It was a bare-bones answer but still the crowd cheered and no one asked for a refund – everyone was just excited to see Ford back in the same theater as the Star Wars universe. That alone may be the Force that brings Ford and Solo back together for their date with destiny.

Disney Looks To Acquire Hasbro next?

0
0

Disney and George Lucas shocked the world last week, when they announced that Lucas had sold his LucasFilm studio, which includes the rights to Star Wars and most of its characters, to media giant. News and rumors have been pouring in as to when to expect more Star Wars related material, Disney has possibly turned their attention to buying up another company with more film and toy opportunities, Hasbro. According to MTV, Disney has been in contact with Hasbro about acquiring them. As of right now it is just talk, but the talks are serious enough that an announcement could be made at any day.

A move like this would normally take time, but Disney has been moving fast while trying to get deals done. It reportedly only took them 6 months to hammer out a deal with Lucas for LucasFilm. What also makes this interesting is that Hasbro holds the toy and table top game licenses to already owned Marvel, and newly bought Star Wars.

What that means for movies, is likely to be the same for the way it has worked with Marvel. Really the only active movie franchises that Hasbro has going right now is G.I. Joe and Transformers, both of which are parked at Paramount. MTV's report states that Disney could easily change that.

As of right now none of this is concrete it is only rumored. So make sure you take this info with a grain of salt. With Disney looking to buy Hasbro it looks as if they are trying to put a strangle hold on not only theme park and movie world, but the toy world as well.

Anheuser-Busch wants Budweiser removed from 'Flight'

Denzel Washington’s character in “Flight” drinks a lot throughout the film, but his portrayal of a highly functioning alcoholic pilot isn’t being welcomed by brewing company Anheuser-Busch or the distributor of Stolichnaya vodka.

Anheuser-Busch said Monday that it has asked Paramount Pictures Corp. to obscure or remove the Budweiser logo from the film, which at one point shows Washington’s character drinking the beer while behind the wheel.

Budweiser is hardly the only alcoholic beverage shown in “Flight,” which earned $25 million in its debut weekend. Washington’s character frequently drinks vodka throughout the film, with several different brands represented. William Grant & Sons, which distributes Stolichnaya in the United States, also said it didn’t license its brand for inclusion in the film and wouldn’t have given permission if asked.

Rob McCarthy, vice president of Budweiser, wrote in a statement that the company wasn’t contacted by Paramount or the production company of director Robert Zemeckis for permission to use the beer in “Flight.”

“We would never condone the misuse of our products, and have a long history of promoting responsible drinking and preventing drunk driving,” McCarthy wrote. “We have asked the studio to obscure the Budweiser trademark in current digital copies of the movie and on all subsequent adaptations of the film, including DVD, On Demand, streaming and additional prints not yet distributed to theaters.”

A spokesman for Zemeckis referred questions to Paramount, which did not return an email message seeking comment.

Other vodka brands, including Absolut and Smirnoff, are also included in the film. Representatives of those companies did not return messages seeking comment.

Experts say the film is unlikely to run afoul of trademark protections, as courts have ruled that products may be featured in films regardless of whether the companies approve, as long as they have some artistic relevance.

ONE DIRECTION to perform on X Factor US this THURSDAY

Simon Cowell is a genius at discovering pop groups, and don’t you forget it.

The sassy X Factor judge is bringing in the big guns, British boy band and pop culture phenom One Direction, to perform on Thursday’s X Factor USA results show. The band rose to fame after finishing in third place on Cowell’s X Factor UK in 2010.

“Having come from the UK X Factor, we can’t wait to perform on the U.S. stage – it’s going to be a great night,” said group member Zayn Malik in a statement. Added Niall Horan, “It’ll be the first time we’ve performed in front of ‘Uncle Si’ since we were on UK X Factor. So, hopefully we make him proud.”

Following their run on the TV competition series, One Direction was promptly signed to Cowell’s Syco Records in Great Britain and to Columbia Records in North America. In March 2012, the band made history as the first UK group to have their debut album, Up All Night, enter the Billboard 200 chart at No. 1.

This season on X Factor USA, Cowell has been tasked with mentoring the groups category. He has repeatedly used the platform to remind viewers and contestants that he has enjoyed tremendous success developing superstar groups in the past. Among them: One Direction and Il Divo.

On Wednesday’s live show, Cowell will place Emblem3, Lyric 145 and the soon-to-be-renamed 1432 (formerly known as LYLAS) into battle, with one group facing elimination during Thursday’s broadcast.

Following One Direction’s performance, hosts Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez will reveal the results of America’s votes.

X Factor airs Wednesday and Thursday on Fox at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Queen M.I.A. Explores Inspiration Behind Next LP 'Matangi'

Sri Lankan MC chats about follow-up to 2010 album in Queens, New York

M.I.A. was once deeply in love... with the Internet. Her 2010 studio album, /\/\/\Y/\, was the story of her painful breakup with the world wide web, Maya Arulpragasam told an audience at the Queens outpost of the Museum of Modern Art yesterday, during a discussion to promote her new book M.I.A. Her trust in the digital realm was shaken, she said, by the Sri Lankan government's assertion she was a terrorist, which allowed authorities to tap into her online life — her bank accounts, her MySpace profile. But her flame for the Internet was rekindled: partly by her attempts to "bring punk to the web" via the design of her N.E.E.T. Recordings page, and partly by her decision to go on a quest for enlightenment.

"I said, 'Fuck it, I'm out of here, I'm going to go get spiritual,'" M.I.A. said, to some laughter in the MoMA's dome, where she projected images from three laptops on the walls to chart her artistic progress from her early days in London through the present. She left America, went to India, and admits, "I fell back in love. I found spirituality through the Internet."

Arulpragasam says that's the story behind her upcoming album, Matangi, which has been delayed past its expected December 2012 due date (she declined to specify until when). Maya repeatedly said she wasn't going to discuss her latest music but decided to show the audience one image, which she said was "spirituality on the Internet as it happens." It appeared to be a Matangi mood board of sorts, whose central focus was two green parrots, which M.I.A. identified as key.

"I was searching for parrots on Google and I found Matangi, who is parrot green," she explained. Matangi is a Hindu wisdom goddess who happens to share a name with M.I.A. — the artist's first name is Mathangi, and as she told the audience, she'd always believed her mother had randomly assembled her name out of a collection of letters.

Her interest in Matangi grew as she learned more: Matangi's mantra is "Aim" (a.k.a. "M.I.A." backwards). According to Arulpragasam, Matangi is the goddess of spoken word, fought for the purity of information, and represented the Untouchables. "I didn't go to an ashram," she said, "I went to India to Google parrots."

M.I.A. didn't elaborate further about the musical direction of her fourth studio album, but it promises to be fiesty. When an attendee asked how she felt about her portrayal in the media following the Super Bowl, where she appeared alongside Madonna and infamously flipped the bird, Arulpragasam replied, "You'll have to wait for my new album." The LP, she stressed, is far from mixed and mastered. She said she's still recording it, and was heading to India the following day "to add more stuff to it."

"It's not 'I want to be trendy,'" she said of its sound. "I just want to make music that makes sense."

When SPIN spoke with M.I.A. in May, she said she'd gone to India after her Vicki Leekx mixtape to find a creative spark: "My trip to India was to kind of explore the visual arts thing a bit more and while I was there I was coming across lots of things that were inspiring and I was recording initial bits of drums and things like that for the record — just because I was there and I was inspired to do that. But I didn't 100 percent think I was just gonna make a record."In an impromptu Twitter Q&A with fans in December, she declared the LP's genre was"paul simon on acid"and that she wasn't going to be pulling punches.

"No one in the industry collected blows in the last 3 years as much as me," she wrote. "This [Matangi] is a fuck you to them and a thank you to you."

THIS WEEK'S SOAP PROMOS!!!

Everyone says goodbye to Stephanie!

Am I crazy or is Brad doing the same storyline from years gone by with Thomas as he did when Ridge first came on the scene? Ridge back in the day told dear old Dad that Forrester needed to be bolder and more edgy and NOW so is Thomas. One has to question if Bell is just recycling story after story and has lost his will to write new and interesting stories. It feels like the beginning of the end for Bold.

How about Bill and Brooke? Seems one actor likes this story and is pushing it from behind the scenes to keep it going. Enter Taylor who becomes very protective and tries to enlighten Katie not to hand over her husband and child to Brooke who coincidentally overhears the conversation. Taylor and Brooke get into it over a baby, but this time it's someone else's that Brooke is interfering with, albeit it unintentionally.

Liam finally gets a clue and realizes what his Dad has done and what Liam does will shock many. Sadly being a true Spencer Liam will break someone's heart.

Ridge will be back soon and it is so hush-hush on set that no one really knows for sure who will play the part. It appears Brad is at his wits end and has started to go over scripts with some other actors. The set has been locked down tighter then a drum if that is possible and employees have been sworn to secrecy and asked personally by Susan F not to leak anything or say anything negative about anyone around her until she's gone. With that said Ridge is indeed coming back soon.

Susan Flannery's last air date will be on Dec. 3rd

It appears those rumors that Michael Graziadei is set to exit Y&R before the end of the year is truer then some may believe. Apparently Daniel will be shoved to the backburner (no surprise there) until his exit. I have to say since the new regime has taken over we have lost many a character and some we didn't even see coming, at least give them a decent exit. Example: Abby gone, no great story exit, Harmony has a goodbye scene with Neil but nothing with Devon, her own son. Heather and Daniel were hot and heavy and she is gone and she didn't even get a scene with Daniel.

Will Daniel leave and have no scenes with the most important people in his life? And now Genie Francis's last scenes were this past week and what a snooze fest those were. It left the question of who was harassing Cane unanswered. But honestly I could care less who was harassing Cane.

Could TPTB be writing the start of Billy's exit as well? Poor Billy he has been deep in gambling debts which causes Victoria to get kidnapped or so he believes. But that is not going to be his biggest problem when Victoria does come home it's Daddy dearest who causes all the trouble. The ramification is going to be huge for this couple.

What lengths will Adam go to help Sharon and what will Chelsea do when she finds out?

EJ and Abigail find themselves bonding over the similarities of their lives, most notably their losses.

Eric finally arrives in Salem and comes face to face with Nicole.

William Christopher ("M*A*S*H") plays Father Tobias to help usher in Eric.

Everyone is trying to get into the middle of Daniel and Nicole's relationship. Victor offers Nicole money to stay away from him. Meanwhile, Daniel learns that Nicole actually lost her baby prior to her accident on the stairs and confronts her with the information. She turns desperate and tries to kill herself.

Marlena is concerned about the effect Kristen will have on her marriage just as Kristen is insisting that she has changed. But Kristen and John still find themselves together at the Horton cabin - she goes up there to reflect on things and John is there to winterize the cabin at Hope's request. Marlena planned to go with John but gets called away.

Kate is furious when Kristen delivers divorce papers for her from Stefano.

After reading the autopsy report, EJ realizes that the baby's death was no one's fault.

It's official Helena Cassadine IS returning and has a huge surprise for Luke when she comes back. Helena is a big part of the story connected to Duke. Anders Hove was on the set of GH saying hello to old friends and in town promoting his new series "Sub-Species". But it is more?

If you are a long time fan of GH then you have realized that Sean Kanan has not skipped a beat. Unfortunately for Monica she may regret the day she helped her son. Is AJ involved with Duke? AJ has secrets, lots of them.

Don't take for granted that all the villains and there are quite a few of them share the same goals. There are some that have memory manipulation and this will be a huge part of the umbrella story, confusing yes, but from what I am being told this storyline will prove a link to GH and tie into the story with spies, memory manipulation experiments and mental patients, the FBI, WSB, DVX, OLTL's rogue and the CIA. Insiders say when it all comes to a head it will make sense.

Sabrina and Elizabeth team up to find ways to resurrect the Nurse's Ball and it involves Lucy Coe, a very wealthy benefactor. Herring will first air Friday, December 14. Held from 1994-2001, the Nurses' Ball was used as a fundraiser for HIV/AIDS awareness.

The holidays are not far off and once again the Quartermaine's will have a day that will rock their world as well as the viewers.

Will it be the end of Sonny? Maurice Benard's negotiations appear to be going down to the wire as all negotiations do. I can only say under FV the budget will rule all decisions, so only time will tell.

Beyond 'Fifty Shades': Sex experts share their favorite books

0
0

With the blockbuster success of "Fifty Shades of Grey," many people are curious about dipping their toes (not to mention other body parts) into more sexually adventurous waters.

I'm always careful to make clear that while the adventures of Ana and Christian may make for a compelling erotic yarn, their story is by no means an accurate depiction of BDSM relationships (bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, sadism, masochism), nor is "Fifty Shades" any sort of guide book.

For instruction on that topic, you'll need to turn to the works of true sex-positive educators such as Clarisse Thorn or Tristan Taormino and their books "The S&M Feminist" and "The Ultimate Guide to Kink," respectively.

If you're uncomfortable talking about sex to your friends, doctor, therapist or even your partner, such books can be an important resource, whether they impart new information, help you work through an issue, inspire you to become more adventurous or simply turn you on.

So, in the spirit of sharing, I asked some of my favorite sex experts to pick their favorite sex books:

Debby Herbenick, a research scientist at Indiana University and the author of "Sex Made Easy:"

"Hands down, I recommend 'The New Male Sexuality' by Bernie Zilbergeld. A classic in the field, it gives a rich picture of men's sexual lives including myths they're taught about sex and common problems such as erectile issues, communication blocks and rapid ejaculation as well as solutions for these problems."

Joe Kort, a clinical sexologist and founder of the Center for Relationship and Sexual Health:

"I recommend Jack Morin's 'The Erotic Mind,' which helps remove the shame of sexual behaviors and fantasies by understanding what they mean in a nonsexual way. Morin addresses where fantasies and desires come from and how shame can be removed and replaced with healthy acceptance for individuals and couples."

Amy Levine, sex coach and founder of Ignite Your Pleasure:

" 'Hot Sex: Over 200 Things You Can Try Tonight' by Jamye Waxman and Emily Morse is a fun, sensual, seductive, creative and tantalizing book filled with more than 200 ways to tease, play, entwine and explore. When I coach couples who are in a sex rut, I suggest they use this book as a tool."

Laura Berman, sex educator, researcher and therapist:

"If I had to pick, I would choose either 'The Anatomy of Love' by Helen Fisher or 'The 5 Love Languages' by Gary Chapman. Both are extremely helpful for couples to understand how men and women are wired differently and to learn how to love one another in a way that lasts."

Justin Lehmiller, Harvard University social psychologist and online sex columnist at The Psychology of Human Sexuality:

" 'The Technology of Orgasm' by Rachel Maines chronicles the history of 'hysteria,' a bogus female medical condition that led to invention of the vibrator. Maines' book is a meticulously researched, fascinating and humorous look at the origin of hysteria and the birth of the motorized sex toy.

"I also adore 'Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex' by Mary Roach, which traces the history of how scientists have studied sexual arousal and orgasm in a very engaging way that refuses to take itself too seriously and never gets bogged down in jargon or technicalities.

"On a personal level, 'Bonk' holds a special place in my heart for helping me realize how much fun a career in sex research could be."

Megan Andelloux, certified sexuality educator and sexologist:

"'America's War on Sex' by Marty Klein describes ridiculous sex laws and research that Americans are led to believe are true. It's a must-read book for anyone interested in sociology, psychology, sexuality education, law and parenting.

"I'm also a fan of 'My Secret Garden' by Nancy Friday, which discussed women's fantasies well before erotica became truly popular."

I've read and recommend many of these books myself, and this list is only the beginning of many exceptional works worth exploring and learning from.

In my opinion, no list would be complete withoutEsther Perel's "Mating in Captivity," an excellent guide to integrating a sense of sexual mystery into long-term relationships.

And on a personal note, in 10 years of writing sex books, my first, "She Comes First: The Thinking Man's Guide to Pleasuring a Woman," remains my most popular.

At the time, I often mused that many men -- through no fault of their own -- knew more about what was under the hood of a car than under a woman's clothes or what was behind her orgasm.

In writing "She Comes First," I am grateful to the Federation of Feminist Women's Health Centers and their book, "A New View of a Woman's Body" (unfortunately now out of print) and to Rebecca Chalker's excellent book, "The Clitoral Truth." Any man or woman truly interested in deepening their knowledge of a woman's full sexual potential should give this book a read.

No matter where your sexual interests lie, you're sure to find something new on the shelves of your local bookstore. And if you're too embarrassed to shop in person -- well, that's the beauty of the Kindle, Nook and other e-readers -- no plain brown wrapper necessary!

Any books to add to the list that have helped you improve your sex life? Tell me about them in the comments below. I'm always looking for a good read.

Are Taylor Swift And Conor Kennedy Are Getting Back Together?!

orig-21123968
Looks like Taylor Swift is changing her tune when it comes to giving guys a second chance. The pop-country megastar who smashed sales records with the release of her new album, Red, is rumored to be having second thoughts about her recent break up with Conor Kennedy. The 22-year-old singer reportedly parted ways with her 18-year-old beau after distance and a hectic promotional schedule consumed all of Taylor's time.

Now a source close to the situation has told HollywoodLife.com that Taylor may be looking to rekindle the romance.

“She is still in contact with Conor, mostly through text," the source said. "They still flirt over emails but mostly texts. So there is definitely still a chance of them getting together in the future. Her schedule is still way too busy which is effecting everything in relationship terms. Time will tell.”

Victoria Jackson On Obama's Win: 'I Can't Stop Crying, America Died'

Victoria Jackson hasn't exactly been a beacon of rational political analysis, but her post-election meltdown on Twitter may take the cake. After Barack Obama was declared the winner, the former "SNL" castmember proclaimed that America had "died."

For context, Jackson is the actress who proclaimed that she would have a baby if impregnated through rape, uncovered a "secret, underground group" of Hollywood Republicans and said gay marriage would "make God mad."

But we digress. Here's Jackson (via an unverified Twitter account) on the outcome of the 2012 presidential election:

LOLWUT? Bravo's 'LOLwork' goes behind the scenes at a meme-making factory!!!

LOLwork, a behind-the-scenes look at the Seattle staff behind the popular ICanHasCheezburger? (a blog devoted entirely to animal memes) debuts tonight on Bravo and we got the chance to chat with CEO Ben Huh.

OK!: I know ICanHasCheezburger is purely animal memes, but which celebrity do you think makes the best meme?
BH: Any celebrity who's pretty big has a sizable meme collection, but I have to go with Leonardo DiCaprio. The expressions he does in Inception and the caricature that was Titanic, the biggest blockbuster ever and now in 3-D, the scene where he's painting Kate Winslet...he's a good actor but he also shows up in a lot of memes. Keanu Reeves was actually one of the first actors who got meme-afied, but Leo is turned into more types of memes. Lady Gaga has a huge amount, Justin Bieber and even Anderson Cooper. Oh, and Lindsay Lohan who just can't seem to stay out of the news.

OK!: When creating a meme, which would you say is more important: a funny picture or witty text?
BH: Absolutely the witty text. You can take a totally mundane photo and have somebody write a witty caption and it transforms the image.

OK! This is the Bravo network — do you have an office diva? Someone who causes the most trouble?
BH: In the office we have a "no drama rule." We're a business and we want things to run smoothly and I think that's what makes us unique. It's not about the drama, but rather how serious we are about the crazy things we have to deal with. We get plenty of drama from the outside world.

L.A. Voters Say Yes to Condoms in Porn

Voters in Los Angeles County had a spicier-than-usual decision to make on Tuesday's ballot. Measure B -- also known as the "Safer Sex in the Adult Film Industry Act" -- proposes that condoms be used on set by all male pornographic performers. And the measure has passed with a vote of 56 percent to 44 percent.

Citing growing STD outbreaks within the industry -- including several HIV transmissions -- the measure was created by AIDS Healthcare Foundation with the intentions of protecting the health of adult film performers.

The measure doesn't just mandate condoms. It requires adult film producers to apply for permits from the L.A. County Department of Public Health before shooting sex scenes, and will subject them to random inspections. Violations will result in fines, and, in some cases, criminal misdemeanor charges.

Representatives of the porn industry have been extremely vocal in their opposition to Measure B. James Deen, the crossover porn star who appears opposite Lindsay Lohan in the Bret Easton Ellis-scripted The Canyons, has been campaigning against the measure for months, at one point shooting a satirical video in which he and adult film star Jessica Drake engage in simulated sex wearing helmets. Deen also submitted to a Reddit Q&A session on the topic.

Deen argues that the new law will force production out of the state, costing Californians jobs and tax dollars. In an e-mail sent today to The Huffington Post, Deen says the adult film community is a mistreated minority.

"We are much like the homosexual, minority or female populations," Deen writes. "We are a community of tax-paying and law-abiding voters who are currently being persecuted. But our opinions do matter, and I hope one day we get respect as these previously-stated groups and others have begun to receive."

On this night, Mila and Ashton were on the same wavelength as far as fashion was concerned. Mila hid that amazing figure in faded jeans, a black sweat jacket and flat black shoes with no socks, while Ashton opted for a grey and blue sports jacket, pale grey jeans and white trainers with red laces. The two have been joined at the hip since they started dating six months ago, and they are showing no signs of slowing down...

The 34-year-old actor recently treated Mila, 29, to a work-related trip to Sydney, Australia.
