ONTD Original: A History Of Lena Dunham's Pets

U94bb.png

Recently, two of Lena Dunham's pets died-- a yorkie named Bowie, and a cat named Gia Marie. Bad luck, or something else?

Many people have criticized Lena for her treament of her animals. Let's take a look at the history of her pets... and whether she really is an irresponsible pet owner.

Unnamed newt

As a young child, Lena had a newt that she says choked to death on a bad worm.

Her mother's Sphynx cat

Her mother bought a Spnynx cat when Lena was a child.

Uno, Bruno, and Devo

When Lena was 15, she brought home three pit bull puppies that a rescue group gave her in a cardboard box on the street. She named them Uno, Bruno, and Devo. Unsurprisingly, her parents did not let her keep the puppies in their apartment, which Lena says was a "one-room on Broadway." She returned them to the director of the rescue group.

Unnamed old-fashioned terrier

Lena's parents also bought an old-fashioned terrier from a breeder in Indiana and had it flown out to them in NYC. I can't find its name or picture anywhere.

Irma

It's unclear when, but in her 20s, Lena got a Sphynx cat named Irma. Not clear whether adopted or purchased.

The saga ofLamby

U9B5s.jpg

This is long and complicated, but bear with me.

Lena adopted her mutt Lamby in 2013, even though her live-in boyfriend was allergic. She made a big deal of adopting a special needs dog from a shelter, which got her some public brownie points.

Lena was spotted at a restaurant ordering salmon and a side salad, then feeding it to Lamby. She even wrote a New Yorker essay about Lamby's "neuroses."

U9DBH.jpg

In 2014, Lamby attacked Lena, literally biting her in the ass.

U9eiQ.png

He also bit her at least two other times.

In 2017, Lena revealed on Instagram that she had struggled for four years with Lamby's aggression and behavioral issues. Training and medication did not help. She rehomed the dog to a facility in Los Angeles called The Zen Dog.

https://instagram.com/p/BVlp8TEFRge

However, people noticed some disparities in her story. Lena claimed that Lamby was abused as a puppy and had bad aggression, but the shelter that she adopted him from-- BARC Shelter -- denies this. The shelter said that Lamby came to them overmedicated and aggressive, but after a week he was fine.
In fact, Lena visited Lamby four times in the shelter before adopting him, with staff watching, and the dog was peaceful. The shelter also says that Lena was taking Lamby to the set and green room of Girls while it was filming, without any incident. BARC also says that their contract has a requirement that dogs be returned to them instead of rehomed.

Dunham had apparently taken Lamby to at least six vets, and her dog trainer publiclyl defender her.

The journalist Taffy Brodesser-Ackner, who is most famous for writing that notorious profile of Tom Hiddleston, even weighed in. She said that her sister is a veterinarian who treated Lamby using acupuncture and Chinese herbs. (Is there a HIPAA for animals??)

Anyways, Lena responded on Intagram, but said she had nothing to apologize for.

Karen D'Amango and Susan Simmons

In 2017, two new poodle puppies then made an appearance: Karen D'Amango, and Susan Simmons. Lena has not mentioned whether she adopted them from a shelter or purchased them from a breeder, though two purebred poodle puppies would be rare to find in a shelter.

She debuted them by bringing them onto The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, though the video has now been scrubbed from the internet.

Gia Marie Carangi

In 2018, Lena adopted a Sphynx cat and named her Gia Marie Carangi, after the model. But Gia apparently had a heart condition that is common in Sphynx cats, and died in July 2018 at just nine months old.

Bowie

Bowie was the 13-year-old Yorkshire Terrier of Lena's friend. The friend had a new baby, and the dog did not get along with it. Sadly, Bowie passed away 3 months after joining Lena.

Candy

Two months later, she got another Sphynx kitten named Candy. She posted on Instagram, welcoming the kitten into her "happy zoo."

What do you think? Do you know irresponsible pet owners?

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark film details emerge

Early plot details from the upcoming film adaptation of the classic book series produced by Guillermo del Toro have emerged:

“Stella Michaels (Zoe Colletti) is a young girl still haunted by her mother’s disappearance on Halloween night — an incident that she suspects her father knows more about than he lets on. Years later, Stella and her friends are involved in a Halloween prank gone wrong. But are they really at fault, or was it the work of a vengeful spirit — a female ghost who uses her scary stories to come after the teens when they begin to investigate the disappearance of several children?”

The film will apparently feature human scarecrow from “Harold” and the girl who has spiders crawl out of her face in “The Red Spot,” both of which appeared in Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones.”

  • Gwyneth Paltrow and her business partner have been planning this for several years.

  • The Arts Club is a London-based members-only club, which costs £2,000 to join and has an additional member fee of £2,000 per year. It's posh (no swearing allowed, "smart" dress only).

  • This Gensler-designed project will have a private club, with office space and private restaurants, bars, lounges, a supper club, a pool, a fitness center and guest suites for club members.

  • There will also be retail, restaurants, and an art gallery that will be open to the public.

  • The West Hollywood mayor lauds this as a return to the pre-rock'n'roll era of the Strip, when people had elegant dining options and dressed to the nines.

  • This will be competing with a couple of other members-only SoHo House locations.

If he agreed to stay on TBBT for two more years, he would make more than $50 million including profits.
This is what CBS was trying to negotiate.
CBS and Warner Bros. TV made the decision to end The Big Bang Theory in 2019 because star Jim Parsons was ready to walk away.
There is no show without Dr. Sheldon Cooper.

The hearing was simply delayed by a few weeks.

Chewing Gum star Michaela Coel opens up about being sexually assaulted

Michaela Coel opened up about a terrifying realization she made when writing the British sitcom “Chewing Gum”

“I had an episode due at 7 a.m. I took a break and had a drink with a good friend who was nearby. I emerged into consciousness typing season 2, many hours later. I was lucky. I had a flashback. It turned out I’d been sexually assaulted by strangers.”

Producers teetered “back and forth between the line of knowing what normal human empathy is and not knowing what empathy is at all.”

The production company paid for Coel to go to a private clinic but when she asked for the season 2 deadline to be postponed it was revealed to her the channel’s head had not been told of her assault.

The 2018 film awards race has begun: 'RBG' becomes first Oscars FYC screener already sent to Academy

0

Days before the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals unofficially kick off this year's awards race, the Academy was already sent their first Oscars FYC screener - the critically-acclaimed and hit documentary 'RBG', based on the life of U.S. Super Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (not to be confused with the biopic based on RBG out this Christmas, starring Felicity Jones).

Deadline noted that docs usually aren't sent out to the Academy (8200+ members) but given this year's oddly successful streak of docs, Magnolia Pictures is throwing RBG in the race.

Other hit docs potentially in the race could include 'Won’t You Be My Neighbor?' and 'Three Identical Strangers'. Apparently the first screener sent to the Academy last year was FOX's 'Logan', which worked because it did at least score an Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination.

David Harbour (Chief Jim Hopper) analyzes Reddit fan theories and gives his spoiler-free take for Vanity Fair:

• Theory # 3 seems most intriguing.

Stranger Things Season 3 Inspired by Fletch
David Harbour says that
Stranger Things Season 3 is inspired by the Chevy Chase movie Fletch, in which a chameleonic reporter uses several disguises to go undercover as he investigates a murder plot.

"The Duffers are so specific each year with the movies. And Fletch is one movie we get to play around and have some fun with this season, which you wouldn't expect from Stranger Things, and you wouldn’t expect from the Spielberg universe, and you certainly wouldn’t expect from a darker season," Harbour said.

Charlie Heaton has been cast as Joseph Merrick in BBC's The Elephant Man

• Two-part, 90 min each and written by Neil McKay (Moorside)

• Will be filmed in Wales

Charlie Heaton says: "I'm extremely excited and honoured to be given the opportunity to take on the portrayal of Joseph Merrick in the BBC's adaption of The Elephant Man. This is such a special role and a challenge for any actor. Joseph has such an incredible story and I can't wait to go on this journey and bring him to life."

• Other actors who have portrayed Merrick include David Bowie, Mark Hamil, and BAFTA-winning and Academy Award-nominated Jon Hurt

Caleb McLaughlin has launched a line of pins and t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan from his social media hashtag campaign #BeYourBiggestFan, which, along with #EmbraceYourFace, promotes self-acceptance and confidence in one’s self.

Warner Bros. and their summer surprise hits may've made them the summer's big winner

0
0

Forbes argued that although Disney technically is the box office winner thanks to their Marvel titles, it was Warner Bros. who came out as the big summer winner thanks to their small(ish) budgeted hits that will undoubtedly create new franchises for the company.

-- The first WB title mentioned is of course 'Crazy Rich Asians', whose sequel is already confirmed. The movie so far has made $44.4M in its first week of release domestically (off a $30M budget), and is still selling out shows.
-- Second is 'The Meg', which did well beyond expectations. The ridiculous shark action movie has so far made $89m domestic and $350m worldwide, off a $130M budget, and is not relenting.
-- Third is 'Ocean's 8', which while wasn't a MAJOR hit domestically, it recouped its box office and more. The women-starring heist fest so far made $290m on a $70m budget. No word yet on a sequel, but there's still room for Ocean's 9 and 10 before we go back to the start.

Not to say that small budget movies didn't do well, but this summer was beyond the same ole superhero stuff. Also WB definitely shouldn't have to worry about the fall since they're continuing two already-successful franchises ('The Nun', 'Fantastic Beasts'), and, well.... DC with 'Aquaman'. They can at least guarantee two hits there.
