Another Gay, Buried... Viewers Criticize Voltron: Legendary Defenders for Homophobia

$
0
0

– It's been a tough week, ONTD... mere days after Luigi was canonically killed off in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the seventh season of Voltron resorted to a homophobic trope for one of their LGBTQ characters. So, who died?
– Spoilers: Adam, Shiro's ex-boyfriend also from the base who appears in one short flashback scene five years ago in the season, was killed off. Adam chose to broke off their relationship when Shiro left, and in the episode The Last Stand Pt. 2, we see Adam and his squadron perish in a dogfight against a fleet of Galra ships. He was like barely there and Shiro had like two seconds to mourn.
– In trying to rationalize their creative decision: “If you look at Adam on the whole in regards to the Earth campaign ... there’s a huge battle that happens,” Dos Santos told Polygon.“Adam represents the loss that our characters feel with what Earth is going through in battling with the Galra.”
– They went on to say: “I think the biggest takeaway for us as far as Adam is concerned is how much he didn’t even question going out into that fight,” Montgomery said. “When the call was made that we need to defend Earth, he and the rest of his squadron went out and did exactly what they were gonna do, exactly the same way that Shiro would have done.” So I guess we should be thankful Shiro didn't also die? lmao

“I think when real tragedy strikes it kind of snaps things into sharp focus,” Montgomery added. “And you start to realize how much [Shiro] may have taken Adam for granted and how much he didn’t appreciate him when he could have.”
– EDIT: Two other characters were killed off as well: Ezor and Zethrid, the evil Lotor's evil henchwomen, have been coded as lesbian villains for a while now, despite not having explicit confirmation or a big announcement like Adam and Shiro did (and tbh if Adam and Shiro weren't talked about it wouldn't come across as a romance). They frequently were affectionate and protective of each other and were also killed off this season.
– But woah at the inequality: this news comes on the heels of Alurra/Lotor having a romance and kiss less then two months ago last when season 6 was released, along with this season featuringLance/Alurra and Keith/Axca (?) romances.

Also shout out to people making this all about their ship:

ONTD, have you ever written something where you killed off the gays while lacking enough self-awareness to also write like three different unearned heterosexual relationships blossoming at the same time?

ONTD Original: 10 Memorable Sexy Moments In Film

$
0
0

Here are ten formative movie moments that still get us hot and bothered (and one dishonorable mention).

THE MOMENT – Michelle Rodriguez and that tank top in The Fast and the Furious
WHY IT STUCK – Not only is this specific scene sexy, but Michelle Rodriguez throughout the whole movie... in a tank top... all grungy and shit... is just... sladksfja. MRod might be is messy as hell, but fuck if Letty doesn't still do it for us. In Furious 7, she actually gets decked out in a dress for once, but who needs that?

THE MOMENT – Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson) snapping Kano's neck in Mortal Kombat
WHY IT STUCK – Sonya Blade (with help from Veronica Vaughn) was responsible for our '90s era obsession with Bridgette Wilson. In this scene, she shows fake Australian Kano who's boss, and it's enough to make misandrists everywhere orgasm. Flawless victory.

THE MOMENT – Catherine Zeta-Jones cucking John Cusack in High Fidelity
WHY IT STUCK – We can trace our mean girl kinks all the way back to Charlie emotionally destroying Rob in High Fidelity. Something about an intelligent, gorgeous woman not giving a single fuck about a man’s feelings set us on fire. Please step on our necks, Catherine Zeta-Jones.

THE MOMENT– Every second of Corey (Liv Tyler) in Empire Records
WHY IT STUCK – ‘90s babes are in a class of their own and Liv Tyler is their queen. In Empire Records, she was the prototype: midriff-baring sweater, plaid skirt, black combat boots, and angst that could only be sated by destroying everything in its path. She was a crush for the ages.

THE MOMENT – Cleo (Queen Latifah) kissing and caressing her girlfriend’s legs in Set It Off
WHY IT STUCK The image of Cleo luxuriating on the hood of a car with her sexy girlfriend has been seared into our brains for years. When we first snuck into our living rooms late at night to watch HBO, we didn’t expect to stumble upon the single most aspirational moment in cinematic history: fishnets, cigarettes, cars, money, lesbian intimacy. Set It Off delivered big time; we haven’t been the same since.

THE MOMENT – Haley's (Missy Peregrym) ice bath in Stick It
WHY IT STUCK – Okay, now when someone says “gay awakening” this is the exact scene and movie that pop into our heads. The movie started out with us saying “wow, I want to be just like her” and then this scene happened and we said, “wow I want to marry her.” So yeah, this scene has stuck with us. Are you really a lesbian if you don’t love this movie?

THE MOMENT – Needy (Amanda Seyfried) and Jennifer (Megan Fox) making out in Jennifer's Body
WHY IT STUCK– If Stick It was our gay awakening, then Jennifer's Body was our "Yep, not a fluke" moment. It had the benefit of introducing us to Amanda Seyfried's glow up and turning us into Megan Fox's biggest stans. Jennifer's Body was a love story between Jennifer and Needy, and don't try to tell us otherwise.

THE MOMENT Lisbeth (Noomi Rapace) getting some in The Girl Who Played With Fire
WHY IT STUCK – Lisbeth Salander is unquestionably one of the most kickass characters ever. We don't know if we want to be her or fuck her, and that dilemma has never been as hard to decide as when she fucked an old flame on some hardwood floors. For a few of us, the spontaneous sex exposed a previously unknown desire. That's the definition of life-changing.

THE MOMENT– Anne Marie (Kate Bosworth) riding on Eden's (Michelle Rodriguez) jetski in Blue Crush
WHY IT STUCK Blue Crush is one hour and fifty minutes of concentrated badass. Eden towing Anne Marie out to monster waves as "Youth of the Nation" plays takes us back to the moment when we first saw these hardcore surfer babes ripping on the big screen. They stole our hearts then and we're still wetter than the ocean whenever we think of this early '00s classic.

THE MOMENT – Zoe Saldana (Kat) and Mila Kunis (Nikki) talking about the taste of pussy in After Sex
WHY IT STUCK – Do we really need to spell it out for you? Just watch the clip. Better yet, watch the whole thing.

THE MOMENT – Adele (Adèle Exarchopoulos) stuffing her beautiful face in Blue Is The Warmest Color
WHY IT STUCK (WITH ONE OF US) Blue Is The Warmest Color. You probably expected one of the gratuitous sex scenes when you saw the name. But nah, that’s not what sticks in our mind. What’s hotter than a sloppy babe slurping spaghetti and mussels into her always open mouth? Feast your eyes on that and try not to get too hot in public.

“It seems like they want to hear it, but they want to hear it more when it’s not from black people.”

Eric Benet is joining the conversation about the current state of R&B.
He claimed the music genre was being whitewashed.
The music industry is prioritizing white R&B artists over black singers.

He criticized various artists in the hip-hop community.
Rappers are benefiting from white supremacy by promoting the murder of black people, degradation of black women, drug abuse, and materialism.
According to the meme he posted on Intagram, these aren’t artists, but “a Blackface for White Supremacy.”
It goes on, “You are being USED to help destroy your own people.”

Sabrina Claudio opens up about "shameful" racist comments ahead of album release

Earlier this year, up-and-coming R&B artist Sabrina Claudio found herself in hot water when it was revealed she had previously run an anti-black Twitter account. Under the now-defunct handle @ODamnYoureUgly, Claudio (who is Cuban and Puerto Rican) repeatedly used the n-word, and made disparaging comments about women of color. Claudio half-heartedly apologized several times on social media, but it wasn't enough - the double-A side she released at the time went all but ignored completely, despite boasting a guest appearance by rising star Khalid.

At an intimate listening event last month, the 21-year-old reflected further on the incident. Claiming to be "embarrassed, humiliated, and shocked," Claudio attempted to pin her bigotry on her unhappy adolescence, saying, "Growing up, I was a very miserable person for no reason. [...] And I think that clearly I just was never thinking and would say things that I didn’t mean just because I was angry with myself and my situation in my life."

Now Claudio is readying a return to music with 'no rain, no flowers,' her debut album and the follow-up to last fall's 'About Time.' Explaining the project's title as emblematic of her journey of "healing and growth," Claudio told Rap-Up:

"I have a lot of work to do and I recognize that. I'm willing to do everything that I have to do because I'm so passionate about this world and what I do and my new faith in everything. This is my reality now."

Ahead of the full-length's release, two tracks have been posted to streaming services - the emotionally charged "Messages from Her" and "Numb."'no rain, no flowers' arrives via SC Entertainment/Atlantic Records on August 15.

- Does Trump use the n-word? Probably. Is Omarosa's credibility highly questionable? Probably. But no more than people like Sean Spicer and Rudy Giuliani, let's be honest.

- Omarosa also claims she walked in on Trump eating a piece of paper???

- Apparently she recorded conversations that show Trump's mental decline (as if his Twitter isn't already an indicator of that)

- She also claims that Trump made racist remarks against Kellyanne Conway's husband who is half-Filipino

- White House hit back at Omarosa claiming her book is riddled with lies and false accusations

After disastrous reviews show creator Lauren Gussis gave a tense interview (the interviewer is going in) to THR and made everything even worse

But I know that my experience was that there are still people in the world who think that stuff is OK. To portray those people who actually exist in the world, is real. I think we're in a real danger of censorship if we decide that we all have to tell stories in a certain way so that everybody else feels safe. In my own experience, growth comes from discomfort and pain. It's present in nature. Like a snake shedding its skin, it's literally tearing itself from its old self, to emerge in a different way.

Contrary to fake news that Angie had pulled out the movie at the last minute (source is DailyFlop, so what did you expect), production has begun on upcoming fantasy film "Come Away".

Anna Chancellor (The Crown) and Clarke Peters (The Wire) have also joined the cast.

Imagined as a prequel to Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan, the film is set before Alice went to Wonderland, and before Peter became Pan, they were brother and sister who live an idyllic childhood with parents Jack and Rose (Oyelowo and Jolie) and older brother David. Fate turns their games of tea parties, pirates and lost boys upside down, setting the stage for their iconic journeys into Wonderland and Neverland.

Keira Chansa and Jordan Nash, both newcomers, have been set to play Alice and Peter, respectively.

Interview with Sue Jacobs, Music Supervisor for 'Sharp Objects'

  • The music supervisor for Sharp Objects is Sue Jacobs, who also worked with Jean-Marc Vallée on Big Little Lies.

  • Sue discusses why the theme song is different every week:  It's actually the same piece of music, interpreted in different ways. Jacobs says that some people have already caught on to this, and if you went back and listened to them in a row, you'd hear the similarities.

  • Jacobs says that the music choices mirror the subtle imagery in the show.

  • Alice taught Camille that music isn't just for entertainment, it can literally save your life, or at least make it bearable for a little while.

  • Jean-Marc loves Led Zeppelin and has used them a lot through the show, including lesser-known songs. Jacobs thinks Led Zeppelin likes the artistry of the show, and that it opens them up to a new audience.

  • They don't have a composer, but licensed 150 songs for play throughout the eight episodes.

  • The music is diagetically presented, meaning we can see its source within the scene (iPod, sound system), and that's in part because of the decision not to have a composer.

I'm mostly posting this because while I loved the music on BLL, I actually haven't liked a lot of the ways they've used music on this show. But maybe it will all come together in the end.
